It has a certain sense of, well, SCALE that most game music doesn't have. Honestly, what I had already heard of the Shadow of the Colossus OST was the first thing I thought of when hearing Ahtal-Ka's phase two theme.

Shadow of the Colossus holds a special place in my heart for being first game to show that games can be more than just mindless fun; as a kid I had been playing the likes of platformers and GTAs and such, which are fine but more on the entertainment side of scale and when I played SotC I got blasted with simple but really fun gameplay, amazing music and visuals and story which had simple enough premise but still stuck to me to this day. All in all amazing game which still holds up, even the original, non remastered version. I intend to have my nephews play it soon, as long as I can clean up my good old ps2.

In the early-mid 2000s, Japan had this very specific kind of 'Lost civilisation' aesthetic that you could see in games like Zelda, Shadow of The Colossus, Ico, Last Guardian, Final Fantasy, and even the maps on Monster Hunter 2 games where you fight the Yama Tsugami?
It's kind of like sprawling, cyclopean, moss-covered stone hallways and vast vistas with like Machu Pichu/ Inca-inspired stone carvings, and they're located in places high above the clouds, and they seem very cold and windy? Maybe it was inspired by the intro credits of the Nausicaä Ghibli movie? 🤔

Oh boy, do I remember. This soundtrack has so many standout tracks, I couldn't pick a favorite. The first time I saw this game was in 2007 when I went to the US and visited a friend whose brother was playing it at the time. I was instantly fascinated and I've played it on PS2, PS3 and PS4 since then. It's such a unique gem of a game, especially when it makes you realise that you just might be the 'baddie'.
I can't wait to watch that playthrough!

Oh, my goodness! I'm right in the middle of this (9:50), and listening to what you're saying, and watching the guy who has climbed up the Colossus' back, and has now evidently punctured his skull, and the music is STUPENDOUS! Oh, my word! I was sitting here very still, with my mouth hanging open...while wishing I had seen that game before, and played it! Doggone it!
Have finished, now, and can hardly wait to have the time to watch your playthrough! WOW! Thank you, Davi. The music is really wonderful, and I can hardly wait to see more about the game. 😀

Amazing video. The OST fits the game perfectly, whether ambient or dramatic track, it was as if it originally existed within the game itself. From the moment I heard the prologue music, I felt something special and got goosebumps. It's hard to describe, but it felt like the music itself was alive, breathing and speaking to me. Thanks for the video, Davi!

Considering how you fit Revived Power's main melody into a 3/4 signature, I'll say that I honestly love how it flows well, but you can also sort of hear the Colossus' slow movement underneath in 4/4 with the bass/percussion, and that for me makes the faster paced sounding pieces more awesome.
I'd really love for you to either cover the entire soundtrack in a longer form video (including the non-used ones if you like, they're just as cool for the cut colossi), or to at least cover A Messenger From Behind and it's counter piece Counterattack, and Demise of the Ritual. I'll try to remember to pop them in the Patreon, lol. -Damien.

Wow, so much to say about this video! The synth parts sound so magical and otherworldly, what a great way to convey that. The brass in the first colossus fight really makes you feel the size of what it is you’re fighting, and the bass thumping like giant footsteps or a giant heartbeat. I was strangely having Attack On Titan vibes during this song. It makes sense I suppose! Loved the gameplay stream, looking forward to see you beat the game. Thanks Davi!

I lack the musical vocabulary to describe this, but when I hear the orchestral parts in SotC it reminds me a LOT of orchestral pieces from like the seventies and eighties, often with animation. I can't tell WHY, though. Maybe the heavy use of brass and flutes was a style that was less popular later in contemporary soundtracks? Or maybe it's a certain sort of recording artifact you can kind of hear. Like it's flatter. It creates a certain effect that you don't get as much in modern orchestral scores, even if things have shifted toward more ambient, less emotive styles.
    Have you covered Xenoblade much?
