Hi Alyssa. Exmo from Australia here. Do you know anything about the White Salamanda Papers? Thank you for saving so many people going down the wrong road.
Born, raised and always lived in Ireland. I've never even met a Morman, but God damn, am I eating up this content. Thank you for helping provide information on something I've heard a lot about, always been curious about, but never have had any access in any way to
My father’s side of the family is related to some of the very first Mormons, and he was the first to leave. His experiences within the church are a few decades out of date now but he has described them as ‘the most down to earth people who believe the most out there $1’*’ and that tracks with my own experiences. The majority of Mormons I have met are good people, trying to do their best in life, who are being taken advantage of.
I can only imagine the first thought going through the mind of someone exiting the LDS temple following such an ordinance: ("FINALLY I can go get a cup of coffee!")
Haha so true, it seems like in the early church it was definitely vibing more "now I can sin without consequences" and now they only let people in their 70s and 80s+ get it so they're not really sewing any oats.
Yep, the second anointing. When you mentioned that the wife gives her husband a rare female blessing, it suddenly clicked that my father, and thus parents, had their second anointing. My parents told me the Temple was a more feminist space with women "laying on hands" or whatever. But I could never figure that out until now. They became very casual about eating out on Sundays, and watching R-rated movies in their old age. So the "sinning phase" of old age may not go away as much as you think, especially for pent-up former Mormons.
I never converted but my husband was raised mormon. His dad was in the "upper echelon" (hubby's words, not mine) and kept a bottle of Dr. Pepper and a bottle of Pepsi hidden under the sink. They also ate out on Sundays, watched the r-rated movies, and all the other things they were not supposed to do.
@@mairamanwaring9419 yet in my experience I've been nothing but condemned for this kind of trivial bullshit. I've just reached an epiphany! Maybe I should tell people that I got the second anointing the next time they fault my moral character for not quite fitting the mold... oh you have to keep up appearances and be in high leadership and social status positions. 😪 no hypocrisy there!
@mouthymormonmetalhea I know. They suck. I was never a part of the church but I was still told how I had to dress if I wanted to show love and support for my family at their mormon events. I was told to wear a dress, I hate dresses, the churches my parents attended let us wear jeans if we wanted. But I found a nice, modest dress so I could go watch my neice be baptized. Got there and so many women in spaghetti straps and short skirts. When I asked about the immodest clothing, I was told that they were members so it was OK but I was a guest and had to show respect. After that I wore slacks to every other event I was invited to.
I'm not religious, but my sister is mormon and married to a morman. I've learned so much from you and your channel. Thank you. It helps me to understand.
Golly... even after 15 yrs. of these LDS experiences as a member, I shake my head now that I fell for it. AND even my Bishop had earlier told me randomly that it's risky to leave The Church because 'you start to question all of it'. Well.. yeah. 😢
A little truth mixed in with a lie makes the lie all the more believable. When you realize you’ve been duped, it’s only natural to reject it all, even the required droplets of truth necessary to allow the fraud to propagate from generation to generation. If it was all a lie, it would fail in a lifetime. Try to separate the self deification heresy of LDS from the good news of the gospel…
@@mimimaitri1it’s only logical. Imagine if you’re not the young person in your twenties leaving the church but a fully grown adult with social circle, beliefs, time invested in rituals and it’s all suddenly wasted. Her Bishop is wise man.
alyssa, ive been obsessed with your content over the last few months. just moved and found out that they’re building a temple ACROSS THE STREET from my apartment!!!! i am shook the house what are the odds!!!!
Sounds like grand junction co. I worked on a temple being built (l.d.s) and whoa..what an exp. I went in as a temp laborer and what a sm list of rules just to pick up their tradh. No swearing on the job site, nothing but water allowed inside the temple, and omg cameras.. poles w maybe 6 cameras a piece hooked up to power plant generators and tjats just the outside, the inside isnt even wired up yet but o whatva creeepy setup. Def not a normal church, more like a corral w a centralised slaughter chamber
ExMo here. I had never heard of the ordinance of a Second Annointing, however, I’d love it if Joseph Smith offered it to appease Emma! I can hear it now! “Emma, I know you said you wanted out of our marriage because I want to marry many other women including young girls, but God just spoke to me and revealed a new temple ordinance…”
I cared for an elderly Methodist woman, her grandson is deep in the Mormon church. When he and his family would visit, the 4 year old would literally PREACH and Chastise her for having a cup of coffee. I cannot tell you how many Mormon bibles we would find all over the house when they left!
Holy moly. I was raised Methodist and some of the things they said/ taught were delulu, so glad to be away from that branch of nonsense but also from religion in general.
@@TheJmore My Methodist church was really, really laid back and liberal, but we had summer camp with other churches in the state and they were a whole different breed. Of course, what they preached was still delulu because they preached a guy came back from the dead.
@alyssadgrenfell it's nice listening to you two talk to each other =] I'd definitely listen to a podcast with the 2 of you- you're basically already doing a one woman show podcast with these hour+ long videos you keep us so well fed with❤❤❤
I remember this exact moment so well, I was getting endowed before going on my mission and a bunch of my extended family traveled from out of town to come sit in a room wearing weird hats with me. I remember asking myself if I was in a cult and then immediately dismissing it because I couldn't afford to have doubt creeping in right before my mission 😭
The best thing to see in your content other than you looking really happy and content where you are now, is the fact that your husband followed you and supported you with leaving the church. In various videos you mention that everything felt like a farce or fake and its really satisfying to see that your marriage was one thing that was actually real. It is really sad to see people leave these organizations and their spouse ends up turning their back and a family ends up broken up because of it, many people go through it alone. Cheers to many more happy and fulfilling years to you two 😊
As an atheist from Estonia I've been loving your videos! Growing up we were taught about different religions as a part of cultural history. Since most people in Estonia are atheists or agnostics we (the school kids) never fully understood the WHY part of many religions. WHY people believe these principles? WHY people follow them so firmly? WTF really is God? You are very well spoken and it is so interesting to hear about what you went through growing up and how a religion teaches a person to think a certain way. Basically - love your channel, keep doing what you're doing!
I like it when my RUclips content providers include friends and family. I feel like I'm getting to really know them and appreciate their background and life. Thank you, and please thank your husband for contributing his time.
One thing I'm learning besides the 2nd annointing from this video is just how much of an horrible man Brigham Young was. Taking away rites from women and black people, and starting the idea of Blood Atonement. I wonder what the LDS church would be like today if majority of followers chose to stay with Joseph Smith III instead. I've heard of the church from that branch (im blanking on the name) and it seems they are moving closer to typical protestant christian beliefs.
The Community of Christ, I think. I've thought the same thing. Radio Free Mormon did a fascinating series of videos on how Brigham Young took over the church and basically shaped it into what he wanted. I wonder what Joseph Smith would have thought of it.
The mic button oh my god… my dad was a bishop for a long time, and one testimony meeting a brother got up and said the most UNHINGED SHIT about how he knew EXACTLY who was going to the celestial kingdom and it was very few of us in the room etc etc (toeing the line of eugenics that level of crazy) TO THE POINT where my dad got up and INTO THE MIC said “You’re done. Sit down.” I am SO GLAD my dad did not mute it. Best sacrament meeting ever.
Ir's delightful to see you two obviously in a strong and happy relationship, having both made your way out of Mormonism together. Well done guys, I wish you much happiness.
Your best video yet Alyssa. You and your husband did your home work. You presented the material in an understandable and informative way. Not to mention humorous at times. ......John Dehlin, and his guests on Mormon Stories Podcast, talk about more sinister motivations by those that give out the 2nd anointings. I can understand if its a 60 year old Woman who worked 3 jobs to get her kids through school, after her husband abandoned her. Plus gave 150% to all her Church callings. That's not the people that get this "Gift.' It's corporate big shots that have 30 million for a hi tech start up company. It's Nephews and Nieces of prominent General Authorities. Maybe they are threatening to write tell all books or even leave the Church. So they are given a 2nd anointing to help them stay quiet and in line. .....Also its relatives and friends of the Church hierarchy. So its kind of a Yale skull and bones secret society played out in the guise of a religion. ......I went through the Temple for my Mission in 1981. They still had the Charles Manson slash your throat Blood Oaths. I should have had the guts to walk out of that ceremony and cancel my mission altogether.
I've always been sketched out with Mormonism, especially since they built a massive super nice temple near where my school was in Versailles. And when I went to college in Switzerland Lausanne, there was a LDS temple/thing literally down the road, I went past every day. I'm never sure I saw any missionaries. But god dayum the church must have some money with what they can afford. Turns out being a sect is really lucrative!! Cheers to ya, happy you guys are out and happy!!
Cults are business models for crooks who like a lavish lifestyle, while controlling gullible people and inflicting hideous architecture on the general public.
Every member tithes, even the children. They keep records and have regular meetings with their bishops to verify that they are indeed paying 10%. I worked for a company owned by a "fifth-generation" family. I remember the kids that worked there after school frantically reconciling their "books" because their family was having a meeting with the bishop. I asked if all the kids even the young ones had to meet with him and what could the young kids that didn't work have to declare? The older sister said they had to declare monetary gifts, allowances, etc.
Something I heard from a Mormon a few years ago was that the "bishops" expect that half of those sent out on missions will leave Mormonism behind. Apparently, when the taste of the kool-aid wears off, there's no going back.
0 privacy for 2 years, being forced to walk miles in fancy shoes, hyper censored and limited outside contact. And you have to pay for that shit yourself... ever since I left that cult I've felt bad for them honestly. If they knock on your door offer them a cold drink and a conversation that isn't religion, they need it for sure
it makes sense. they're not under direct control, and they also get to experience a different people and a different place and a different way of doing things.
@@corg1740 I feel like that number will only rise the more they're drawing missionaries from a population of kids who have had cell phone access from very young, are broadly accustomed to living in an increasingly permissive society, et cetera. The further the mission rules get from what's customary in mainstream society (and some things, I don't think the Church can change without fundamentally altering the character of a mission, like the whole companion thing), the tougher it's going to be to keep those young people from looking around and wondering what the heck is even going on and what they're doing.
Your story at the 1:00:00 mark about the man who shared his experience of the second anointing is a great example of how the worst nightmare of religious institutions is genuine believers -not people who believe their own bullshit- but people who believe the institutions'. They're too naive, too honest, and have too much of a sense of moral duty, and getting them to collaborate in corruption and degeneracy is like herding cats.
Wow, you really hit the nail on the head for verbalizing something I've been feeling from her content ... Every time she mentions her endowment being the moment she felt confusion and betrayal .... Because she was a genuine believer who wanted to seek God and be selfless, she was not caught up in being on her high horse. It really hits me deeply every time she talks about her endowment or moments when she found out the church used to support things that she, a faithful believer, found to be so abusive towards others.
VIDEO IDEA!!! As a nevermormon I have no idea what a stake president is, or an apostle/prophet/bishop. I would love an explanation of Mormon hierarchy! How you become one of these? Have they all likely gone through the second anointing? What are their duties?
man, it's trippy to realize how much basic info is confusing to outsiders. 😂 just for the sake of answering: the hierarchy is: investigator => member => leader (women lead/teach women and minors, men can lead/teach men and some minors without the presence of women, and then there are other offices in management that mainly men occupy) => bishopric (3 men that preside over the whole congregation) => stake offices/presidencies (women and mostly men that lead several congregations in an area) => area 70 (men that manage several stakes) => church presidencies (of which there are dozens of men and only nine women on the global level) => apostle (yes, 12 men like jesus had) => prophet/president of the church (a man that is believed to be the actual connection to god)
yeah basically all the terminology is very confusing if you're a part of a different faith because it's very clear that the words are the same but they mean something completely different
My great-grandmother in the 40s was part of a women's group in Salt Lake comprised of fireman's widows that met at Ottinger Hall memory grove. One of the other ladies in the group one day made a comment about how many sheets they had to wash at the temple that day. When my great grandmother asked what do you mean, she just replied your not mormon? My great grandmother said no and the woman just clamed up and walked away. From that day on in our family it was believed that what went on in there was a witnessing of consummation of marriage. That ultimately increased our disappointment in our ancestors following this religion across the Prairie.
Also, we had a group try to open a Temple here in Dallas area called the McKinney Temple. I work in urban planning & development and was not surprised to see how ignorant the church body was to basic land regulations but was surprised how the church leadership and their professional team remained supportive of something blatantly out of line with said regulations.
I discovered the second anointing concept as a teenager who was really (overly) deep into studying the scriptures. I think I first noticed it in the D&C and then I was obsessed bc here was this new mysterious thing that could happen that I never heard about!! I was absolutely gripped by it.
Yes, there are Masonic chapters in Utah, and a Mormon could join (there are many). For a few decades tensions were high between Mormons & Masons because of the obvious "lifting" Joseph Smith had made from the Masonic ceremonies and then his crafting into the LDS endowment. I think that tension is pretty much relaxed at this point.
Muslims can even join, worked with a chef that’s a mason. As long as you believe in god you’re chillin. He did say Muslims wouldn’t get to the higher ranks, so it’s possible you might hit a glass ceiling as a Mormon
The first Holy of Holies in SLC is in the original tabernacle (created before the temple), is behind a step-down-to-a dark-stained door (not visible on camera) below the largest 32' pipes to the left of the famous tabernacle organ console. I have personally performed on this organ in the 90's and during practice, one of the then-organists told me about it. Yes, the door was locked.
In Scientology, you literally have to buy your way to the top through their courses and books. Since most members aren’t Hollywood stars, it’s never going to be that many that make it to the top.
During the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church sold indulgences, which were monetary payments that were believed to absolve sins. So it's very similar to this Mormon Second Announting.
The Catholic Church still sells indulgences. Priests hear personal requests from members and mentions the needs of the parish. A check is written by the member,, a special mass (or prayers every day for a week or whatever) is said for the one who wrote the check. Fact.
The Catholic Church never 'sold' indulgences. This was never the practice of the Catholic Church. Money was given by the faithful for the construction of St. Peter's Basilica at the time and also some priests misused their authority and did sell indulgences but this was not authorised by the Catholic Church. To this day nn indulgence is obtained by some act of piety such as going on a pilgrimage, giving money to a charitable organization, spending time in prayer and the Pope has the authority as Christ's representative here on earth to grant an indulgence, which is basically the remittance of temporal, not salvific, punishment for sin. The sin has already been forgiven by God, but there are still temporal consequences from sin. Just as God forgave David for the sin of adultery, but still punished David for the temporal consequences of his sin by allowing his son to die.
And in the 1600s, there was briefly a sect in England called the ‘Ranters’ - they believed they were pre-destined and could do whatever they wanted in this world as a result. This included walking around naked 😂
Thank you for another amazing video Alyssa and always great to see Jackson! The immense amount of love and respect you two have for each other is clear as day: all a testament to both of your characters and what constitutes a healthy relationship.
I still can't get over the photos of Ballerina farm's father lying in his coffin wearing the apron. I should add, not appropriate that we saw that or any leaked photos... but it was an insight into the Temple's role even in death. Love you guys by the way. So informative.
Updates to the temple ceremonies are like revisions in the Disney parks. Patrons get no say in what gets changed and are expected to fully embrace the new installations without question.
I was raised catholic in Poland. Polish church is integrated with a lot of polish tradition and when Poland wasn’t on the maps for more than 100 years, church was a place where polish language and culture was preserved. Now I’m agnostic or atheist but when I was still practicing the ceremonies in church was similar ladder to Mormon ones. Baptism was first step, after that baby is in church registry. You have two sets of parents your own and God parents that usually are obligated to help financially or in other ways. Then is first commune, you are around 10yo and you have to learn to prey and how to behave as a Christian, a lot of test visits to te church, first time confessing your sins to the priest and white dresses for everyone, you the first time consume “Jesus body” bread. After that you are conscious member of the church, and probably have new bike or some electronic equipment. The last stage when you are child, when you are around 15yo, is confirmation, you are preparing to get the Holy Spirit to your heart, you have to choose saints name to guard you and after that you can be God parent. Then is marriage or being priest or nun. You are in a new family with your partner or with a God himself to serve him. The last one is last rites, before the person die the priest forgives sins and then is smearing special oil on a forehead and arms of the person and then gives a body of Jesus, the last Eucharist. The leader thing is in polish church. Every ritual is making you closer to God to the last one when you are going to be with God soon. It can’t be denied that church in Poland did a lot of things great in the time when Poland didn’t exist and while PRL and communism, but it isn’t perfect. Best wishes from Poland to you and your husband, take care ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing! My mom is of Polish descent and I was raised Catholic. We went to a Polish parish church so we kids could learn a little about our heritage. Here in the United States, Catholics have the same sacraments. And the same mix of good and bad from the church. Any large institution will have its share of mistakes! I don’t currently practice Catholicism, but recognize the importance of celebrating together and remembering our heritage.
I'm from Colombia and the Catholic Sacraments are the same. The majority of people from Latin America are Catholic by tradition more than conviction. I was raised Mormon and left the church 30 years ago in my 20's. My husband is Catholic in a gray line between conviction and tradition. We goes to mass, to some especial celebration in easter time and Christmas and thst all. The only time we confessed his sins was before our wedding, because it was mandatory for the ceremony, and it was very different from those horrible interviews with the Bishops. For me it is ideal to have a place where I can pray (in my own way), but be free to go whenever and wherever I want, just for one hour a week where nobody is judging me or gossiping about me and my family. But reading your detailed description of The catholic sacraments makes me think of all the similarities between religions and cults. Of course you will find a lot of Catholic devoted people, but in reality and average you ask a person and will answer I'm Catholic, and if you ask When was the las time you went to church? They will not remembermsybe sometime in theur childhood.
I'm in Wyoming is the US. I was Born, Baptized and Confirmed Lutheran (Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, keeping to the works of Luther). I'm more of an Odinist these days, but I went through 2 years of Confirmation, reading Luther's Small catechism. You have tests on the you Biblical knowledge, talks with pastor (most of mine were a little about confirmation and the rest was about High School real football that we Americans play, because he was out defensive coordinator, or taking his oldest daughter who had this huge crush on me and was in confirmation with me, on a date or to a school dance, because my dad was the elder, and president of the voters). There was really, even if I think about it, much "advancement" to positions in the church. There isn't pressure to become a pastor, go to seminary in Saint Louis, Missouri. My dad was only elder because the old guy in our congregation retired and vacated the spot so the congregation, at a voters meeting that my parents skipped, voted to elect my dad to the position, despite him not wanting the job. My dad was also a layperson for pastor and had to do the church service. Because my dad was elder he could give communion without being ordained or having gone to seminary, he was just voted into his position, no special ceremony just a phone call from Pastor and another member of the church, "Hey congratulations Bill you're the elder now. Well gotta go, stop by the parsonage or the office and we can chat about your ideas now that you're my boss." That was it. My dad as elder had the power to fire the pastor. Not that my dad wanted to. But when they made my dad elder, the old hens could now go and complain to my mom and pastor's wife at Mary-Martha League meetings about people and things in the church. Then the old hen club voted my mom and pastor's wife to officer positions in Mary-Martha League. Neither was happy that they did this. But that's about it. That's all we had. Confirmation was given to us as a choice. We became full members who now had voting rights in the church and could take communion. No confessions are required in the Lutheran Church, but you can if you want, except it's you, pastor and a witness of your or pastor's choosing. Yeah confession for us has pastor and a witness behind closed doors in his office, face to face. We also have the last rights and final communion and that's it before you are placed in the ground. Lutheran funerals aren't really that somber, they are structured but they are celebrations of the person's life with hymns. That's it.
I shared the same experience during my own endowment. When the weirdness started in the prayer circle, I thought, "What kind of cult did I just commit myself to?" On a creepiness scale of 1-10, the endowment is an eleven!
I’m very glad to have discovered your channel and the information you have and are able to disseminate. My wife managed to escape from the LDS cult and hearing her stories allowed me a pretty solid understanding of what a bizarre and insular entity that organization is. Ok, here’s the actual reason for this comment: I wonder if it would be beneficial for folks who genuinely don’t know anything about the LDS (and only if it weren’t a pain in the butt) to have some subtext with definitions of some of the terminology used routinely within the LDS, but not so well known by those outside of it(such as “Sealed” as a singular item) I think that’s about it. Keep up the good work and we look forward to future videos from you! Oh, also.. have you had the chance to read “Under The Banner Of Heaven”? It’s a headful of disturbing, but it unfortunately happened. Ok, thanks!
I embarrassed myself in front of the only Mormons I'd ever met. Like another commenter, I am Irish, born and raised, and never met a mormon...until I moved to South Korea and put my foot in my mouth big time lol. I was talking to a nice young woman in the immigration office about nothing in particular. In walk two young men in white shirts and ties, I see them, and immediately swing around to the young woman and exclaim "are those MORMONS???" And she says "yes!" Stands up, and says "Hello elders!" I then try to pivot and act interested, rather than acting like I'd seen an alien lol I asked about mormon beliefs and why they can't have coffee. Her answer was that they couldn't have anything that would alter how their brain works. I don't think Alyssa has ever said that explanation before! I then said I've never seen a mormon in Ireland, added that I was atheist, and then was called to the desk for my appointment lol. Very awkward for me 😂.
That explanation for coffee isn’t really accurate. They made it sound as if it’s the caffeine that effects the brain but caffeine is totally fine for Mormons. Allysa does have a video about the coffee rule and it’s not about how it affects the body.
At the time, my interaction with that young woman was my only experience with Mormons. I've since fallen down a total rabbit hole with Alyssa and learned so much about the Mormon church now, and I've never seen anyone else claim that to be the reason either! Just that one woman! I wonder if Alyssa has ever heard of that excuse? The woman said it was in line with things like alcohol, which can alter ones decision making abilities. I get that with alcohol...but caffeine? And now that I know that Mormons actually are allowed caffeine, just not coffee explicitly, I'm even more confused!!@@janesfilms
Amen, If you choose to live under law, you’ll be judged by the law, but if you choose the grace of Jesus Christ, you will receive grace & forgiveness. Jesus is enough!
The ultimate achievement for any MMORPG player who got all other achievements. Build your reputation with the LDS faction from Apostate to Election made sure. What a grind...😂
staying in utah for the first time rn while on a road trip. been thinking a lot about you and your vids while i’m here. it’s crazy how much mormon culture impacts the state. unlike anywhere i’ve ever been. super beautiful though!
i’ve known that many influencers are mormon but after watching this i’m just like woah. like this is stuff that they’ve been raised with and are familiar with and they likely believe it and that’s just kinda mind blowing to me. thinking like people from brooklyn and bailey to the 8 passengers family have probably heard and at one point believed (if not still believe) in these culty things. it’s so strange to me. i live in oklahoma and i’ve only ever met one mormon and that was in middle school and she told me “i’m not christian, i’m mormon” and while i liked her as a person i was very aware that she was different from me and my other peers.
Fascinating! BTW, it's interesting how far the church reaches! When I was last in Dubai, our room had, of course, the direction of the Qibla marked on the ceiling, but for the guests who aren't Muslims, in one of the drawers, there was also a New Testament aaand *drum roll* The Book of Mormon!
as someone raised catholic, the fact that some mormons make fun of catholicism is soooo funny cause mormonism makes catholicism seem like the most chill religion on earth
Your husbands sense of humor is hilarious😂 I have no morman background however I can relate to alot of doctrinal ideas having come from a non denominational/slightly pentecostal background that I left after 12 years.
Polygamist Mormon man at the resurrection: Okay... Jennifer! Susan! Mandy! Uh... Sophie! Laura? No, Lana! Oh shoot, what was the other one called? Like if every wife gets a new name and she's only allowed to tell you *once*... you'd better hope you don't forget any!
I’m glad to find your channel. My family is not Mormon but I was raised in Utah. First in Salt Lake and then St. George. My parents divorced and moms job took us to St. George. St. George was so Mormon I felt very uncomfortable and peer pressured badly. I finished high school in Salt Lake with my dad. I have a friend that moved to St. George recently and she’s been having a very hard time with the culture. She had no idea before she moved. Got put down at the swimming pool for her bathing suit etc. People don’t know how weird and controlling it can be unless you’ve lived it. Thanks for educating people more about it!
Religions have always come up with ways to reward their wealthy donors, from special attention and visits from the clergy, to the outright selling of "get of hell free" passes.
I am so grateful for information like this, for people like you for sharing this! I was grown up in the mormon church, my entire childhood i never felt 100%, i continued believing because of how convincing they are, and of course because of how shamed you are if you ever believe otherwise. But when i became older and not forced anymore to go to church i finally quit going, and then events in my life that happened afterwards (not related to this religion) i was finally able to truly know that i was absolutely no longer a part of this religion. My entire family except for a neice and 2 nephews are still raging believers. It breaks my heart that this religion that satan created to mock God, has so many people under its grips. But that is another reason why i am so thankful people like you all keep putting the truth out there! God never mentioned anything about religion, only FAITH! Believing that Jesus died and shed His blood for our sins, so that by GRACE we are saved, not by works. When we are in THE faith, with the Holy Spirit living inside us, we naturally WANT to do good works. But we know that our WORKS are NOT what gets us to spend eternity in Heaven, only His Grace and our Faith❤ Why else are believers called "the church" WE ARE THE CHURCH. Mormons say they are the only true "church." Makes no sense.
hey alyssa! my family is heavily involved with masonry and rest assured we are not a cult. masonry is an organization where there are secret handshakes, tokens, etc. but they are essentially a fraternal organization where they have meetings which they discuss business and finances for their lodge and what not. basically a place where old people like to talk.
yepp, my uncle was a mason and that's how i know it's not a secretive, powerful organisation - they never would've let my dumb uncle join if that was the case lol
Research their teachings. Once they get to the top degrees its revealed they worship satan, teach that man is his own god, and are not allowed to speak the name of Jesus in the lodge. Not to mention calling a man "worshipful master" which is totally blasphemous, doing rituals where they swear on an actual human skull to have they're tongues cut out, be disemboweled, etc. if they should reveal the secrets, and they even swear on the lives of family members to secrecy.
@@Spread_Hope_Like_Fire I don't need to research, my family was in it lol. Sorry you got scared by some spooky tiktoks or whatever but that doesn't make what you're saying realistic
This is fascinating. I had no idea how Mormonism really is. I knew it's a thing that does exist but that was pretty much all I have ever known. Thank you.
I hope this caution does not adversely affect Alyssa’s relationship with Paired. (I enjoy her content) I wouldn’t upload any information about your relationship to any internet company. Whatever the contract, it becomes theirs to sell, allowing marketers to target you and your family. Also, no matter what security they can offer you, data breaches even on government sites and insurance sites happen. By examining your data criminals can target you electronically and physically.
This is so in depth, I had know idea of this second anointing . You and your husband are so in tune with each other. You are both very knowledgeable in this weird cult called Mormonism, aka LDS
I imagine getting it and going "Fck this sht, I'm out", tongue kissing my wife in front of the officiants, then getting with her on a sick bike, without wearing any underwear, while smoking marijuana, and driving into the sunset with highway to hell playing in the background. Just found your content, and it's so awesome! I grew up in an area with a large Mormon population, and as a non-Mormon, found it difficult to navigate conversations with Mormon friends sometimes. Your work is so important and educational, and I'll likely use your videos to help my kids be both informed and compassionate! Thanks for all you do!
I'm from northern Mexico. The first time I met a mormon was in college. I didn't even know about their existence prior to that. He was super nice and sweet. He got married that semester and I just remember thinking it was crazy to marry that young. I later found more about Mormons through South Park and have been interested ever since. I find it fascinating.
my friends grandma WAS mormon, married, and still will not share the secret word she was given to find her husband in the afterlife, even though she left church long ago. also, my dear friends both still LDS or having left mormonism, are the most secretive people! kind of admirable i guess.
Hey, I left the church a few years ago and it's honestly wild to hear so many weird and horrible things that have happened that I was never taught about. I was curious though if you've done a video about brigham young, i'm really interested in hearing more about him
Hello alyssa! I love the video. So I’m going to leave a nice long comment to boost your video for the RUclips algorithm gods! I know it’s hard as a content creator to get the videos you worked so hard on to get going with the algorithm. So hopefully this comment gets it on its way. I used to leave really short comments just saying “hi” or “
So fascinating, my Dad would always allude to the second anointing! I didn’t know exactly what it was, but all the phrasing and the basics I understood that it happened.
As a Utah exmo in a "mixed marriage", I havent formally left it. But I'm fully out mentally. I even attend sacrament meeting so she doesn't have to sit alone. Other than our religious differences we get along well. For me, it's still a strange way to live. We are seniors with 11 adult children between us. Several of mine and half of hers have become inactive.
Really interesting video. I’ve never been Mormon but was Catholic until a few years ago (classify myself as agnostic now). I find your videos fascinating even though I’ve never been Mormon. Also interesting fact the pice of scripture from Matthew you use (whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven…) is what Catholics use for the Papacy.

Thank you for saving so many people going down the wrong road.
Alyssa can you talk on race and Mormonism ?

Same 😂but I am from India and the first mormon temple is being built here currently
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting! I dream of going to Ireland someday!
My father’s side of the family is related to some of the very first Mormons, and he was the first to leave. His experiences within the church are a few decades out of date now but he has described them as ‘the most down to earth people who believe the most out there $1’*’ and that tracks with my own experiences. The majority of Mormons I have met are good people, trying to do their best in life, who are being taken advantage of.
not a morman 😂😂
Mormonism seems like a never-ending Russian doll, where the center seems like only the super elite get to see
GREAT analogy.
I understand the appeal though. It makes you want to "git gud" at religion so you can progress and unlock new content.

Perfect explanation! Now try telling and LDS that, lol.

Ohh, Sweden! I'm Swedish. I've actually had the LDS ring the bell while Jehova's Witnesses were trying to convert me. It was a frosty atmosphere.

"two religious missionaries walk into a bar..."
That's hilarious
I can only imagine the first thought going through the mind of someone exiting the LDS temple following such an ordinance:
("FINALLY I can go get a cup of coffee!")

Love that your parents took full advantage of the second anointment to sin in old age under the assurance of still going to heaven
Perhaps she was talking about Initiatory ordinances and not the second anointing?
Crazy how similar Mormonism and Scientology are!! The way it developed, the “documents”, the secrecy, the shame culture, etc etc etc.
Both are like a pyramid scheme and MLM, with a never ending ladder to climb.
It's straight up the Scientology of the 19th century.
Seeing how much good old Joey pulled from masonry, I would fully expect there to be a 3rd anointing and for that ceremony to be absolutely unhinged.
Seems like the council who are closest to the "prophet" have to have something that's just them

Valid
that's the exact idea.

The church should hire an actor to play Jesus for second anointings.
That would be wild.
Based on Mormon "gospel art", they'd probably try to get Alexander Skarsgard.

Well when you have kids paying thier own way to recruit all over the world for you.
They have hundreds of billions of dollars to be exact. Crazy!!!!
The older sister said they had to declare monetary gifts, allowances, etc.
very rich they demand 10% of you income of you don't get the special sauce with your Mormonism.
Something I heard from a Mormon a few years ago was that the "bishops" expect that half of those sent out on missions will leave Mormonism behind. Apparently, when the taste of the kool-aid wears off, there's no going back.
I've seen a podcast when they said it's 47% of missionaries who leave
1st RED FLAG- total secrecy! 2nd- excommunication
just for the sake of answering:
the hierarchy is: investigator => member =>
leader (women lead/teach women and minors, men can lead/teach men and some minors without the presence of women, and then there are other offices in management that mainly men occupy) => bishopric (3 men that preside over the whole congregation) => stake offices/presidencies (women and mostly men that lead several congregations in an area) =>
area 70 (men that manage several stakes) =>
church presidencies (of which there are dozens of men and only nine women on the global level) =>
apostle (yes, 12 men like jesus had) =>
prophet/president of the church (a man that is believed to be the actual connection to god)
yeah basically all the terminology is very confusing if you're a part of a different faith because it's very clear that the words are the same but they mean something completely different
What scripture in D&C. I would love to read it!

The funny thing is my Dad was a Mason and I recognized all the similarities. Would a Mormon be allowed to be a Mason?
Yes, there are Masonic chapters in Utah, and a Mormon could join (there are many). For a few decades tensions were high between Mormons & Masons because of the obvious "lifting" Joseph Smith had made from the Masonic ceremonies and then his crafting into the LDS endowment. I think that tension is pretty much relaxed at this point.
Mormonism was founded by Masons- there are lots of Masonic influences in Mormonism.
Muslims can even join, worked with a chef that’s a mason. As long as you believe in god you’re chillin. He did say Muslims wouldn’t get to the higher ranks, so it’s possible you might hit a glass ceiling as a Mormon

During the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church sold indulgences, which were monetary payments that were believed to absolve sins. So it's very similar to this Mormon Second Announting.
Exactly. Protestant Reformer Martin Luther tried to warn the world about this craziness.
I was thinking about that too. Maybe another thing Joseph borrowed.
And in the 1600s, there was briefly a sect in England called the ‘Ranters’ - they believed they were pre-destined and could do whatever they wanted in this world as a result. This included walking around naked 😂

O, cześć 😊
That's it.
I'm a catholic american and we don't have to do that.

watch a third anointing be created and revealed in a few years and people start coming back to this video being like "omg they predicted it!!" 😆
I shared the same experience during my own endowment. When the weirdness started in the prayer circle, I thought, "What kind of cult did I just commit myself to?" On a creepiness scale of 1-10, the endowment is an eleven!
You and your husband and very well spoken! Great video!
I’m very glad to have discovered your channel and the information you have and are able to disseminate. My wife managed to escape from the LDS cult and hearing her stories allowed me a pretty solid understanding of what a bizarre and insular entity that organization is.
Ok, here’s the actual reason for this comment:
I wonder if it would be beneficial for folks who genuinely don’t know anything about the LDS (and only if it weren’t a pain in the butt) to have some subtext with definitions of some of the terminology used routinely within the LDS, but not so well known by those outside of it(such as “Sealed” as a singular item) I think that’s about it.
In walk two young men in white shirts and ties, I see them, and immediately swing around to the young woman and exclaim "are those MORMONS???" And she says "yes!" Stands up, and says "Hello elders!" I then try to pivot and act interested, rather than acting like I'd seen an alien lol
I asked about mormon beliefs and why they can't have coffee.
LDS makes you earn what Christ has already given you completely free of charge.
Exactly right
Amen, If you choose to live under law, you’ll be judged by the law, but if you choose the grace of Jesus Christ, you will receive grace & forgiveness. Jesus is enough!
@beccasue7452 so you believe you can do whatever you want and your good? You still have to follow God’s law….

Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Christ hasn't given anything to anyone. Just like the book of Mormon, it's just a bunch of scribblings of idiots
The thumbnail on this video KILLED me 😂😂
Yes! Me too. Hilarious

@@svr5423 At least as announced. It was never released though.
Break the silence. Break the cycle.
staying in utah for the first time rn while on a road trip. been thinking a lot about you and your vids while i’m here. it’s crazy how much mormon culture impacts the state. unlike anywhere i’ve ever been. super beautiful though!
I'm 41 now.. learned about the second anointing last year, also from stumbling onto Mormon Stories podcast, and I was shook!
i’ve known that many influencers are mormon but after watching this i’m just like woah. like this is stuff that they’ve been raised with and are familiar with and they likely believe it and that’s just kinda mind blowing to me. thinking like people from brooklyn and bailey to the 8 passengers family have probably heard and at one point believed (if not still believe) in these culty things. it’s so strange to me. i live in oklahoma and i’ve only ever met one mormon and that was in middle school and she told me “i’m not christian, i’m mormon” and while i liked her as a person i was very aware that she was different from me and my other peers.
It is trippy when you are on the outside. For them, they were likely born into and to question it is a huge risk.
When I don’t have a lot of time, I love your shorts too. It’s all so fascinating. Your a lovely couple.❤
as someone raised catholic, the fact that some mormons make fun of catholicism is soooo funny cause mormonism makes catholicism seem like the most chill religion on earth
You two are so sweet together. That's one good thing you guys got out of all this nonsense that will last forever. 🥰
Your husbands sense of humor is hilarious😂 I have no morman background however I can relate to alot of doctrinal ideas having come from a non denominational/slightly pentecostal background that I left after 12 years.
Gonna be honest...vids with both of them are some of her best
It's like TSA pre-check for Judgement
Thank you for posting these, they have been helping so much with my deconstruction from the church 💕
Babe wake up, new Alyssa Grenfell video just dropped
🎉🎉🎉 Thank you for watching :D
Ok but why am I the MOST pissed off about a woman not even being allowed to stand in the circle for the blessing of her own baby. Wtf.
But we know that our WORKS are NOT what gets us to spend eternity in Heaven, only His Grace and our Faith❤
Why else are believers called "the church" WE ARE THE CHURCH.
@@ylasko I don't have a TikTok, I have researched it for years.
Pretty sure my dad became a mason to have friends to hang out with when it isn't duck season. 😂 It definitely is a social thing.
This is fascinating. I had no idea how Mormonism really is. I knew it's a thing that does exist but that was pretty much all I have ever known. Thank you.
"Wii bowling with the lord" is iconic
For some reason it is SO easy to imagine White Jesus/Mormon Jesus as a mii 😂
You two are delightful, and you're doing a real service, keep it up!!
I feel like everyone should watch your videos before choosing this life
This is so in depth, I had know idea of this second anointing . You and your husband are so in tune with each other. You are both very knowledgeable in this weird cult called Mormonism, aka LDS
ANY sin other than murder??? That is absolutely insane!!
It's a great idea if you are constructing a sexualy predatory cult.
Yeah. Like what about committing SA? (Imo that is just as evil as committing murder.)
@@alexanderthesixth they don't need the 2nd anointing to get away with that.
I imagine getting it and going "Fck this sht, I'm out", tongue kissing my wife in front of the officiants, then getting with her on a sick bike, without wearing any underwear, while smoking marijuana, and driving into the sunset with highway to hell playing in the background. Then getting home and sending a video mixing coffee and alcohol to the group chat and leaving right after.
Thanks for the info, love your content!
Thank you for watching and commenting :)
What an amazing video!!!! And you have amazing back and forth communication, loved watching you both talk!
You guys are amazing! Thanks for sharing your story!
Im a convert 2004. I fell away in 2010. My marriage fell apart., after 21 years. I blame the church. I love your videos. ❤❤❤❤❤
Listening and watching this a little before sleeping is on another level
Hey, I left the church a few years ago and it's honestly wild to hear so many weird and horrible things that have happened that I was never taught about. I was curious though if you've done a video about brigham young, i'm really interested in hearing more about him
I had my Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino today, as always before watching an Alyssa video!
Sipping on nice cuppa is the only way to enjoy videos about Mormonism 😂

Hello alyssa! I love the video. So I’m going to leave a nice long comment to boost your video for the RUclips algorithm gods! I know it’s hard as a content creator to get the videos you worked so hard on to get going with the algorithm. So hopefully this comment gets it on its way. I used to leave really short comments just saying “hi” or “
I say "algo", you say "rithm"...

So fascinating, my Dad would always allude to the second anointing! I didn’t know exactly what it was, but all the phrasing and the basics I understood that it happened.
I didn't see your video yesterday. But it's nice you uploaded it today.
I'm loving the dynamic when Jackson is on with you. You guys are an awesome pair.
As a 60 year old ExMo, I relate to every aspect of this
As a Utah exmo in a "mixed marriage", I havent formally left it.
LOVE your content and I LOVE the sweet relationship you and your hubby have. I’ve watched all of your content and I just adore you. ❤️
