  • This is Iceland's first 4K 24/7 live stream of the volcanic activity near the town of Grindavik Iceland. The current eruption which began on March 16, 2024 just ended on May 8th. According to the Iceland Meterological Office, there is an increased likelihood of a new dike intrusion and another eruption in the coming days. The most likely location for a new eruption is the Sundhnúk crater row.
    This camera is situated on the southern tip of Þorbjörn. Þorbjörn is a 243 m high volcanic mountain next to the town of Grindavík. The camera is usually pointed Northeast at the erupting volcano but may occasionally pan north or south to observe other features of the area. It is about 2km away from the erupting volcano.
    How you can help:
    Help the people displaced at Grindavík (Red Cross): www.raudikrossinn.is/english
    Give to the Iceland Search and Rescue: www.landsbjorg.is/icelandic-a...
    Thanks!

    As fast as that fissure started erupting lava from the time it started gassing, a person could not run fast enough across the broken ground of the old lava flows to get away from “ground zero.”

    • @DewottReborn
      @DewottReborn Месяц назад

      Wouldn't it still be too molten to even cross at this point?

    • @katiehettinger7857
      @katiehettinger7857 Месяц назад +1

      I think there are quakes, cracking, fumes, and rumbling before the magma becomes lava, giving you time to clear out. I would be sure to go up wind the gasses are toxic. 😉👍🕊

    • @charlesward8196
      @charlesward8196 Месяц назад

      @@DewottReborn Well, the surface of the previous eruption was probably cool enough to walk on. I visited the Kilauea/PuuO’O’ ocean entry area in 2016 and the 3-5 day old pahoehoe flows were solid, through things were still quite warm and red glow could be seen in shallow cracks in some areas. Walking was not that difficult.
      When we visited the Mauna Ulu eruption area from the early 1980’s the a’a flows were impossible to walk on, rough, jagged, glassy and unstable; some seemingly solid rock would break unexpectedly when you put your weight on it. We gave up and returned to “solid ground” after crossing only 10 meters of ground on the flow. This is the kind of surface that the Iceland lava flows presents, and it is impossible to maintain a slow walking pace, much less try to run.

      @charleshash4919 Месяц назад

      Is there a camera controller? Why would there be a controller for what is essentially a remote camera on a mountain top that is intended to run around the clock? It's probably a glorified security camera with a fixed power so it can "see" a broader area of the likely eruption zone.
