Episode 166 of Love At First Scent
This was a RUclips Live broadcast streamed on Sunday 21st February 2021. Unscripted. Unedited. Unrehearsed.
In this episode I talked about a video I recently recorded with Max Forti in which we presented our lists of the best perfumes of the 1970s. I also reviewed one scent which didn’t make my final list: Estée Lauder Private Collection, from 1973.

    Here's the blotter update:
    - They don't make them like this any more, but thank goodness some brands are still making them, if you see what I mean. This remains green-floral, bitter and mossy all the way through to its drydown: a real class act.

Mine just arrived OMG this is GORGEOUS ! This is so Chanel #19 just richer much richer and more masculine to my nose yet still very feminine . One full squirt was too much and I never say this. As long as the longevity retains itself this is a huge win for me. Good for blue linen blazer and white pants affairs on the back lawn. :)

I love Private Collection, my Mother got it for me I was 20. I still love it, now at 70, my best friend of 58 years gave me my last bottle for a present. I only wore it for night time dates. Special occasions. I also love Aliage. That is my fall and winter fragrance. My Mom wore Youth Dew. Can't believe it's 50 years smile

Appreciate you shining a light on Estée Lauder fragrances... I had never given them much consideration, only ever wearing Bronze Goddess during summers several years ago. Also enjoyed your blog post in the top 5 from this house. Cinnabar & Youth Dew are definitely on my list to sniff out. ☺️

I LOVED Private Collection! The most mysterious beautiful woman at the office in those days wore it. The feel of the spray bottle, like the one on view, in my hand had a luxurious weight about it. I have worn Crystalle, Chanel No 19 and Aliage at different times, all lovely and fresh.
Please take a look at your CC, because "Lauder" comes out as 'Lorda" and "Chypre" (?) comes out as "sheep" - which no one wants to smell like. Cheers!

One of my favorites, along with Dune, Pleasures, and Aromatics Elixir (among others). I keep trying newer fragrances and a great many of them are scrubbers on me. To be fair, I can’t get the niche brands where I live and might well like some of them.
I used to read your reviews years ago; discovered this channel recently and am enjoying it.

My colleague wears PC sometimes and I just LOVE it when she does! I think it compares to Chamade somehow, with its mossy, floral greenness and springtime vibe (from the hyacinth I guess). My mom wore it too, but it was a little to grand for her. Great, great fragrance and thank you for reviewing!

PC is very similar to Bluebell by Penhaligon. They smell (at least to me) almost identical. I love PC and get lots of compliments when I wear it from younger and older people. I would never be without it..

Omg I didn’t know you actually made a video- just saw a post about the ad 😍 such a favorite of mine. In terms of movie, how about Soylent Green? Jk! I’m thinking The Great Gatsby because of the green of freshness of hope and opulence of the parties, and the sobering base notes that bring you back to reality. I find it a very invigorating hopeful scent and quite American, and what’s more American than Gatsby 👍🏻

@@Persolaise so, I have a tiny Parfum and the Eau de Private Collection (which is the only version available now officially) that you test in the video. Recently, I got an old parfum cologne spray (whatever that means...) of PC in the CLEAR bottle instead of frosted glass and it’s is really a lot more elegant than the Eau de Private Collection (EPC). Whereas the EPC is almost sporty, outdoorsy and really fresh, the older one is absolute elegance but so relaxed and smiling instead of formal and grand. It’s like you’re forever taking tea in your country estate right next to a forest. I’m never one to wave my fist at reformulations because usually I think they keep the spirit but PC is a favorite of mine and it was ACTUALLY so different in character. Worth seeking out the older bottle for sure... just couldn’t help but comment 🙏🏼

When I used to wear it in the past, I used to think that this the scent of heaven. However, they reformulated version is not the same . Their was a certain ingredient that was banned and therefore it was removed from the newer versions , it doesn’t smell that awesome anymore, sadly

Haven't worn this in ages. It's the signature of former queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. 🇳🇱👑it reminds me of houbigant's 2000 Aperçu which i prefer for lack of a certain - typical Lauder - soapiness woven through the rich green mossiness, but i admire Lauder for keeping this in production. (My favorite lauder remains youth dew - the bath oil. YD has a great origins story too) will have to watch the collab video 😎

Hello from Prague, lovely video as usual. I wonder whether you would consider reviewing some of the most popular books on fragrance. I am reading one "classic" and I disagree with most of their reviews. And the style seems borrowed from a Sex and the City script. I would trust your review.
