Vinegar, soaked on to a towel that you then lay on top of the surface for 15 minutes works wonders to clean the calcium build up, solutions not complaints for matter that one cannot change themselves.
Yeah! What a delight and surprise to hear my name! Kinda like winning the lotto! LOL! Thank you for the distraction from everything going on in the states. Even the adventures in French banking is a delight in comparison!

Hey Jay! Try bouncing the light off something larger like a white sheet/towel or poster board to soften the light. That will work better than a small diffuser. The light also seems to have a green cast to it, a custom white balance with will help it look better as well.
I’m glad you got one more meal in the Voss’ place and yeah, calcaire is a PITA. Vinegar-based cleaning products help, but it’s still an uphill battle. One thing to do if you ever have glass doors like that in a place of your own is to squeegee them after every shower. I sometimes spray mine with a vinegar and water solution before wiping or squeegeeing (there’s a word for ya!). It was fun to see you using the wheel again. I hope the banking stuff will at last be sorted out! 🍀🤞🏼

Those bayoneted are getting harder and harder to find and a lot of the old sockets are this style. Just as an fyi, you can get adapters so that you can use the screw-in lightbulbs.
I expect that there is a significant "cash only" economy in France especially for owner-operated businesses such as plumbers, electricians, market stall holders etc.
The term used in France is called 'black money' - l'argent noir. However, if you get caught using them you pay a hefty fine. A person taking 'black money' can face jail time. In France, bank checks are still used a lot for large money transactions. Yeah, you heard that right, bank checks. They still allow bank checks in stores too, nothing worse than getting stuck behind one at a shop... there's so much to say about the French banking system...
Condensation tends to shorten the lifespan of light bulbs. Also try adjusting the power saving mode setting on your camera to a longer duration to stop it from shutting down momentarily.
Thankfully I think they're well protected by the housing - I think it broke because of some light abuse from the construction crew (they totally hacked into one of them to draw power at one point, I took video of the cable running out of the fixture).
French banking sounds exactly like German banking. And anything here in Germany really. Everything is slow, confusing, send by mail, requires a lot of effort, and customer service sucks. And it all sucks, even more, when your German is pretty bad. So i feel you.
Yay for some cautious wheel action. Good lighting is good and that is why I clean on a sunny day, sometimes. French rain is the best. Why? Because I really miss traveling in France. Hi Jay, Planning is the thing :) And i am surprised that the Sony you use is weather proof?! It is not and this can be a problem. Second: this type overheats in video mode and will stop. And in France they do everything with 7 persons that can do by one. :)
I have never related so hard to a video about moving to France (French banks--the struggle is truly real). I literally had the same issue with the two step authentication with my bank. it truly is. so stupid.
Hard Water Benefit: It causes a layer of calcium carbonate "lime scale" to build up on the inside of any old lead pipes, which helps to reduce any likelihood of lead poisoning.
I feel just a little sad that you won’t have the ‘office’ anymore. Stay safe, here in Spain in our municipality (Abanilla) in region de Murcia, we’ve been in strict lockdown for weeks and weeks but could meet upto 6 people with all usual precautions, tonight they announced that with immediate effect no meeting with anyone from outside your household for next 2 weeks. I really don’t think the rules can get any harsher, all cafes/restaurants etc have been shut for ages and sadly lots of small businesses closing permanently 😢
My bank told me to close my account all I had to do was mail back my card with some paperwork and then it took a full YEAR before they actually closed it the french banks are my nightmare
Purpose made Lactic Acid based descaler, may be a better value option in Paris than vinegar; I don't know, but if Paris is anything like England, vinegar can be relatively expensive, as the (white or brown) vinegar sold in supermarkets is a "gourmet" distilled type meant for putting on fries / chips and sold by the quart in glass bottles. I believe that white vinegar - aqueous acetic acid - as sold in North America, is an inexpensive, industrially synthesised edible product that you buy cheaply in large plastic containers.
Speaking of air france and lockdowns... looking for a good resource on ability to fly from the states to Paris. Hoping to buy a ticket for late April. I think I'd prefer the Hoka honestly - I need to buy a pair (my sister sent me Christmas money for them) but I've got a couple Adidas lying around so I'm giving them a go. They aren't bad - I had some really nice Adidas runners before and loved them
@@JaySwanson I just tried a pair of ASICS Cumulus 22 and found them comparable to the Hoka Clifton 7 which I use (I think those are the same you have). I am keeping an eye on the wear rate as that is the only complaint I have with the Hoka (i.e. the sole wears really fast).

All French bank's have been emailing and sending hard copy letters in the last six months to remind us all about the EU Directive to best protect bank accounts with double verification for payments and transfers, you are being unreasonable in blaming the French Government or French Bank's here. When you move to a new country it is preferable to blame or castigate only when fully informed.
euhm. i doubt this. my experience is that implementing rules divers per country in the EU as for example with gdpr. if this is about gdpr it is rightful to complain on the account of french banks. if this is about know-your-customer then the French banks have a big issue. and then it would be also rightful to complain on the account of the banks. or something between eu legislation and the specific bank operational implementation.
Nothing to do with GDPR. It's a European rules which force customer to be strongly authentified when they make card payment or any online payment. Eurpean Banks use mainly phone to operate the authentification process.
Sorry, I came to watch video about banking and get more than 6 minutes of light related content. It's your channel and your right to create content as you wish, but I'm gonna leave my feedback anyway. I would really appreciate if this video was more thoughtful about viewers time, especially those who got to the channel through search and who is not into vlogging, we are here to hear about specific topic in the most efficient way possible. So the long intro about unrelated topic just discourages from viewing and leaves an unpleasant feeling. There was a period of time when I was forgetting things when I left my apartment. Now, every time I leave the house, my girlfriend makes me say out loud "keys, wallet, phone, mask". It helps to bring it in to my consciousness that I have everything. Give it a shot. It actually works.

Plain old white vinegar for hard water/limescale. Spray on, leave for 20-30 minutes, scrub off and rinse.

Gotta play around with all of it - the trick is compensating for daylight (the tradeoff of using natural light most of the time).

You can buy bottles of white vinegar in Paris supermarkets for about 0.40€. Prob because everyone uses it for descaling.

That just sounds nonsensical as a verification method.
It's not only a French rule to verify your phone number.
It's an European rule : DSP2
