This was a hugely entertaining video! I love how clean and elegant your sump looks, congrats on that because it's a lot of work to keep it that way. And the music is perfect! 👍🏻👍🏻
At 2:42 when you wrote “one days poop” there’s a white neuron looking growth on the left....what is it? I have a few and can’t even describe how to google it.
laminar flow Thanks 😊 Try to keep the sump pretty clean. Was still a lot of hours trying to get all the shots and edit it together. Cheers for noticing
Thank you. Was planning on doing some voice over for this one but came down with a flu and will just leave it for the next tank update. Thanks for your request 😅
Looks really nice. Am i right by saying that it looks like your chiller is feed off a manifold then from the chiller to your UV and back into your chatoe fuge?
If you have a large enough return pump a manifold is great. Not having to run a separate pump keeps noise levels down and doesn't add anymore heat to the system.
AS far as the amount of detritus they catch, there is no comparison. The filter wool catches so much more and keeps the water a lot more polished in terms of particles in the display. Maintenance wise, the filter socks were not demanding at all as they were so porous they didn't really trap much and therefor didn't clog. The filter wool needs to be changed daily because it clogs so quickly. Have added the bact-rox xl to allow running just a small amount of wool, more like a piece of gauze, because if filling the whole cup with wool it blocks in a matter of hours.
Thomas from Anything Acrylic made them for me. Contact him through facebook is the easiest way to put you in contact to order some facebook.com/Anything-Acrylic-649130998554613/?ref=br_rs
Thanks Larie! Really like the Caulerpa as well. Little seaweed 😜Flame angel has been making sps polyps close during the day, after just a couple of days time out they are open again 24/7, will cover that in the next update. Also have some big news. Do like the hard plumbing and wish we could get all of the coloured stuff you can get in the states.
Hi Natural Reefing, I have one more question. What are you using for refugium light over the Caulerpa? I am using a LED bulb but I'm not sure if it is enough.
Great video! I'm hoping to get the same tank but i would like a refugium area. Do you think i would be able to split up that middle area with egg crate, put in algae and copepods, and then have the other half for my protein skimmer? Also, do i need a media reactor? Thank you sooo much and the setup is great!
Thanks for watching! Yes, have planned to do the same thing to the middle chamber, add a baffle to the middle chamber to divide it for the fuge section. Only need a media reactor if you plan of running something in it... maybe carbon for a new set up? Glad you enjoyed the video.
smith john Thanks! It's biological media called Bacter Rox by continuum. Have dosing pumps for alkalinity, calcium, magnesium and ABCD coral colours to dose the full Red Sea Reef Care Program.
How does the water from the Chaetofuge/water reservoir flow down to the filter sock chamber? Is it gravity fed through that PVC pipe? Did you drill a hole through the glass? Thanks
NoSoup4You1 Yes it just gravity feeds back into the first chamber of the sump via the 25mm pipe that passes through a bulk head fitting drilled into the base of the ato.
man nice setup i have a red sea 350 im trying to plum from m1 to return and run a reactor with carbon and not sure what else to put in the reactor... ...is it 3/4 tubing....then soft tubing to return line..?
Thank you! It is a Nyos Quantum 160. Highly rate the skimmer. Little tricky to set up at first but consistently pulls great skim week after week once it settles.
Have probably averaged about 20L per week. Some weeks will do a 40L change and siphon half the sand bed, other weeks will do only 10L to clean the sump or add new coral/fish.
Hi, amazing sump layout! I have the same aquarium and I was thinking of what to do with the RO reservoir and came across your video. What diameter is the hole drilled in the reservoir and was it easy to drill?
Thanks! It is a 25mm bulk head. We went with a bit larger 30mm hole as it was the nicest fit and there is such a large grommet on them. Super easy to drill! Quite thin glass so didn't take much, just kept a lot of water on the cut and no worries.
Ken Rosecrans You need to check the flow rating for your chiller 😁 What part is noisy? If you close it too much it will keep going down the emergency over flow and that will gargle and be noisy. Need to balance the valve to the right water height.
Jeff Bronson The chiller is a Teko. In the middle of summer is would ramp in and out constantly keeping the tank within half a degree of target. It really isn't loud, no louder than a small fridge running. The auto top off pump is louder than it. Thanks 😀
Huh. I use a teco chiller too. Its the Teco TR20 model. 480watt. I cant really hear it when I have my ceiling fan on, but it is still definitely a nuisance when it is on. Maybe because its 1/3hp and I am in a small room:/. Thankfully its only on 6 hours a day
Ken Rosecrans Reefer 525xl is rated at 4000lph return. The M1 is 7000lph. If all flow is going straight back to the display you will need to turn it down to match the rating for the valve
Why my caulerpa turns sexual? Any idea for that? I have led par38 19hrs day for now, and I’m dosing IRON 5ml for 38g every other day Your look fantastic any tips for that?
Had mine do that when hadn't noticed the light had died due to it only being on at night. There is a lot of different types though and not sure if maybe had a good strand?
Ken Rosecrans Yep, that's how this is hooked up. So if you have the chiller line half open with the chiller also restricting the flow. At a guess it's using 1/4 of the pumps flow. So to match the return spec of the tank you would still only want the pump running at 5-6000 lph to match the down pipes capability of keeping it quiet.
Lovely video. I am thinking of getting a red sea tank for my new reef tank and been looking through your videos. Great stuff!
Kelvin Ang Thank you. If there is anything else you'd specifically like to see about the tanks let me know
This was a hugely entertaining video! I love how clean and elegant your sump looks, congrats on that because it's a lot of work to keep it that way. And the music is perfect! 👍🏻👍🏻
Reefgrrl Thank you. Sometimes it feels like more work goes into the sump that the display 😉
Nice walk-thru - very clean sump/fuge area.
Thank you. Try to keep everything as clean as possible.
Natural Reefing, serves as an inspiration to strive for.
Damn, thank you very much. Very humbling.
Natural Reefing keep doing what you're doing!
Incredible Setup!
Adam McDonnell Thank you!
You're Welcome!
Nice setup looks great...awesome video.
Thank you
Top 👍 one of the best tech. Layouts i’ve ever seen before🤩
looking super clean man, nice!
dudesreef Thank you 😁
The little Refugium Tank. Is it the one that came with the Sump? Did you drill a hole in it?
The size of the refugim is amazing also what is the flame angle down there for ? Is he new
At 2:42 when you wrote “one days poop” there’s a white neuron looking growth on the left....what is it? I have a few and can’t even describe how to google it.
Wow love you setup . Can you make video or publish a list of equipment been used in you tank . What all trace elements , dosing , etc you do .
Shantanu Mathur Ok. Thank you! That sounds like a good idea. Busy at the moment getting ready for another tank, will try to do it soon.
That's a nice setup
Bay Area Reefs Thank you
very nice. Like the cheato fuge
Thank you!
love the walk through! not easy to get all that so clean. bet that is a lot of hours of work for a 4 minute video
laminar flow Thanks 😊 Try to keep the sump pretty clean. Was still a lot of hours trying to get all the shots and edit it together. Cheers for noticing
Awesome work, a voice over would be awesome as well
Thank you. Was planning on doing some voice over for this one but came down with a flu and will just leave it for the next tank update. Thanks for your request 😅
great video bro I really enjoyed that 👊
Cheers man, glad you enjoyed 👊
Looks really nice. Am i right by saying that it looks like your chiller is feed off a manifold then from the chiller to your UV and back into your chatoe fuge?
Yes it is. Probably not ideal for the uv but it keeps it simple.
Natural Reefing thanks. Just trying to figure out the best way to do mine in the upcoming weeks.
If you have a large enough return pump a manifold is great. Not having to run a separate pump keeps noise levels down and doesn't add anymore heat to the system.
Natural Reefing Yeah I will be using a Vectra L1.
Nice, will be using that on the 750 xxl too.
awesome tank and video. how did you hard plumbed the return to the one from red sea?
Just ended the hard piping with a 19mm hose tail flush against the Red Sea piping with just enough 20mm soft piping to join it together.
Very nice. 😃
But why natural reefing when you are using UV sterilizer? 🤔
How are you liking the acrylic replacement containers over filter socks?
AS far as the amount of detritus they catch, there is no comparison. The filter wool catches so much more and keeps the water a lot more polished in terms of particles in the display. Maintenance wise, the filter socks were not demanding at all as they were so porous they didn't really trap much and therefor didn't clog. The filter wool needs to be changed daily because it clogs so quickly. Have added the bact-rox xl to allow running just a small amount of wool, more like a piece of gauze, because if filling the whole cup with wool it blocks in a matter of hours.
Who sells the acrylic containers? Or did you make them? Very beautiful setup!! Thanks for sharing.
Thomas from Anything Acrylic made them for me. Contact him through facebook is the easiest way to put you in contact to order some facebook.com/Anything-Acrylic-649130998554613/?ref=br_rs
Beautiful! My favorite Caulerpa Algae is going crazy. Is your Flame Angel in time out? Plumbing is so nice...
Thanks Larie! Really like the Caulerpa as well. Is that cheato fuge connected to your system and if so how
Verry nice
Thank you
Like the sump ! I'm guessing that is calcium in the clear tubes via the sump? More natural looks great! Do you have a dosing pump for the magnesium?
smith john Thanks! It's biological media called Bacter Rox by continuum. Have dosing pumps for alkalinity, calcium, magnesium and ABCD coral colours to dose the full Red Sea Reef Care Program.
What is the best way to Siphon when you are first getting the Sump and Tank Wet for the first time
Uauuu!!! Thats so great! Wonderful! ❤👏
Thank you and thanks for watching!
How are you handling water top off? Are you adding RODI water manually or do you have another system to take care of that?
How does the water from the Chaetofuge/water reservoir flow down to the filter sock chamber? Is it gravity fed through that PVC pipe? Did you drill a hole through the glass? Thanks
NoSoup4You1 Yes it just gravity feeds back into the first chamber of the sump via the 25mm pipe that passes through a bulk head fitting drilled into the base of the ato.
Nice reef! Which model aqua uv is that? I just ordered the 525xl
For the Chaeto Refugium on top did you use the small tank that comes with the 525 xl?
man nice setup i have a red sea 350 im trying to plum from m1 to return and run a reactor with carbon and not sure what else to put in the reactor... ...is it 3/4 tubing....then soft tubing to return line..?
Yes, all 19mm tubing. Not sure what you could run in reactors as i have never used them...
do you have a link to the acclimation box? thanks
Looking good mate, how's you're refugium draining out?
Through a one inch drain in the Ato tank back into where the display drains into
Natural Reefing cool, so you drilled the bottom of the ato?
Yes, right where it would drain back into the centre of the display return section of the sump. Wasn't scary at all 😅
Lol that's a different way of doing it 👍. It's a very clean look, what fittings did you use?
Addy Reef Just Polly fittings from bunnings
What is your top up system now you've turned the fitted one into a refugium?
Tunze ato from a 20L res out the back of the tank.
Nice!! How does the water leave the ao tank you DIY into a refugium?
Beautiful Tank!!!! May I know please your skimmer brand and model?
Thank you! It is a Nyos Quantum 160. Highly rate the skimmer. Little tricky to set up at first but consistently pulls great skim week after week once it settles.
How often do you do water changes and how much?
Have probably averaged about 20L per week. Some weeks will do a 40L change and siphon half the sand bed, other weeks will do only 10L to clean the sump or add new coral/fish.
Realised you used the ATO tank to be a fuge tank instead. Do you have a seperate ATO tank?
Kelvin Ang Yes, there is a 20l res behind the tank with an electric ato now.
Awsome tank! Do you keep the fuge lit 24/7?
Fredrik Ringnell Thanks! The fuge is lit for the opposite hours of the display. 10pm until 12am.
Hi, amazing sump layout! I have the same aquarium and I was thinking of what to do with the RO reservoir and came across your video. What diameter is the hole drilled in the reservoir and was it easy to drill?

Whats that square light are you running over the calerpra?
It's a Fluval light. Have now swapped to AI Prime HD's over both refugiums.
i want to put a refugium im not sure in sump or hang on back... what is the container with the flame in it ?
Just an acclimation box. Depends what you like the look of i suppose?
how much flow to the chiller my top of the red sea is making noises i have the dial under the tank almost closed
Ken Rosecrans You need to check the flow rating for your chiller 😁 What part is noisy? If you close it too much it will keep going down the emergency over flow and that will gargle and be noisy. Need to balance the valve to the right water height.
how to balance it?
NDS GVG-0500-T 1/2-Inch Threaded PVC Schedule 80 Gate Valve
Showwww Happy Birthday ;)
excellent, apart from the chiller(live in England!) that's exactly what I will be doing on mine.
Awesome, thank you! How much heating will you need for this size tank over there?
I think maybe 2x 300w should do it, I think I may go for the 650 peninsular. whichever one I choose I will copying your sump layout for sure!
On the m1 dial. Im at number 6. Light. Or do i go higher
Ken Rosecrans very similar. This is on 7.
What macro algae is that in the sump?
Philip Winslow Caulerpa on the left and Chaeto in the ato on right
Hello! These are natural live rocks? Thank you!
Felipe Araújo hello! They are all real reef rock!
Your sump is really clean man! I love it! What's the deal with the flame in there?
Mike Lemming Thanks! He's just waiting to be relocated.
Where do you live? I would love to have him! I
Sunshine Coast, Australia
Damn! That's a bit far' 😂
what is the container the flame is in...?
Super fantastic
what brand is the chiller? How many hours a day total is it on and do you find it to be a nuisance in terms of how loud it can be? Awesome tank!
Thankfully its only on 6 hours a day
IS THE VALVE ALL THE WAY OPEN
Ken Rosecrans Check your manual. Should show how to adjust the valve to get the right water height to make the return nearly silent.
How long u rum ur sump light ??
where can I buy that media cup you are using?
i need step by step
or do i cranik up the m1 all the way can u help. me...
Ken Rosecrans Reefer 525xl is rated at 4000lph return. The M1 is 7000lph. If all flow is going straight back to the display you will need to turn it down to match the rating for the valve
Its going back to sump......do i need to send it back to return line
Groovy reef music :)
or should chiller line be return line...?
Don't think your chiller would be rated for 4000 lph?
its an artica 2000 gph
Why my caulerpa turns sexual?
Any idea for that?
I have led par38 19hrs day for now, and I’m dosing IRON 5ml for 38g every other day
Your look fantastic any tips for that?
Reef-STI your light must have turned off.
Had mine do that when hadn't noticed the light had died due to it only being on at night. There is a lot of different types though and not sure if maybe had a good strand?
my top line from m1.... goes to chiller with shutoff valve...open half way...then return back to sump bottom line from m1 goes to return...
Ken Rosecrans Yep, that's how this is hooked up. So if you have the chiller line half open with the chiller also restricting the flow. At a guess it's using 1/4 of the pumps flow. So to match the return spec of the tank you would still only want the pump running at 5-6000 lph to match the down pipes capability of keeping it quiet.
its almost closed...
Its at 2000bgph...
no help...
