Hot boiling water cleans corrosion. You can use petroleum jelly for anti corrosion. Also thanks for the info I didnt know how to get that first part off

Wow, way easier than I thought.... I don't know why I thought you had to disconnect the fuses to prevent a discharge 😂😂
Anti corrosion spray for terminals, works well.. I always give the post and terminals a coating or two..

If you have a battery tender? Connect it to the battery cables before you remove them! Your computer will be much happier! Did this yesterday on my 2018 Taco. OEM battery died after only 2 years seven months! Baterry tender worked perfect! Didn't lose anything!
Can I ask what do you lose when you disconnect the battery without tender? Just replaced my 2017 battery without tender.
@@Stenchx Radio presets(no big) But,sometimes the computer will take time to relearn somethings. This just happened to my friend changing the battery in his wife's car. Not running Right.
1 step you did not mention was cleaning the connections, especially the positive on yours was covered with blue corrosion. that should have been done before reconnecting. and also what did you have to reset on the Taco, radio etc?
Good point. I did go back after the video and brush off that + connector, but most of that corrosion was just built up around the base of the + terminal on the old battery. Luckily my Tacoma remembered all of my preset radio stations and the only thing I had to do was add 1 hour to the clock. :)

They wanted to charge me 37.99 to clean my terminals, lol, that was the last time I went to Parks Toyota in Deland FL. Plus it was my last free service for my 16', in which all they did was rotate the tires and forgot the car wash!
Ouch that sure seems steep. I've read that for super-corroded terminals that you can use soda to clean them. I've never tried it myself though.
Yeah, I've heard about that trick, just wire brushed it off.
Be glad they forgot to wash your vehicle. They do nothing but damage the paint.
what oil filter and oil do you run in your tacoma ?I run mobile one full synthetic 5w30 and i use a toyota oil filter , i bought 10 jugs onsale i can do my own oil changes for half the cost they charge 90$ cad at mobile express i can do it for 40$ im very pleased doing my own oilchanges now :)
I run the Mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic as well and usually use a Toyota filter. I'm glad to hear you are avoiding the stealership! Have you done your own differential oil change as well?

My problem is, my new battery wont fit under the tie-down bar properly. I had to hook the inside rod of the tie-down bar under the fuse box instead of the frame. It's rather secure but i know it ain't right.
If the J-hooks were too short with the tie-down you could grab some longer ones like these: amzn.to/3bd9ROK They make different sizes too.
Do you have to be concerned about keeping power to the Tacoma while disconnecting the battery terminals? Reason why I ask is because my Camry doesn't run right whenever I disconnect my battery but I'm not so sure about my Tacoma
I've never had an issue with the Tacoma after having the battery disconnected for a length of time. Sometimes it may idle a little weird but the computer quickly gets that in check.

The computer will relearn the running parameters as it idles and you start driving and will smooth itself out over time (i.e. idle etc.).

Only your radio channel presets and Trip A/Trip B odometer readings are reset when your battery is disconnected.

No but it's probably a similar process to the earlier Tacomas where just a few nuts hold the plastic piece on.

Removing the battery doesn’t disrupt anything electronic/electrical on the vehicle except for maybe your radio station settings, etc. correct?...With all the computers on the vehicles these days I gotta ask.
I've been told that removing the battery can reset the Tacoma's computer, but I believe it's not a full reset since when I did it I did not even have to reprogram my radio stations ... or maybe they are just stored anyway.

I couldnt believe this but when i just replaced my battery in my 2005 tacoma (bought the truck at used dealership) the AAA autoclub replacement battery said december 08 on the side and it was still cranking over the motor when i replaced it.
Sounds like you had a golden battery in there! I probably could have gotten more time out of mine, but didn't want to risk it dying ... since that always happens when it's snowing/raining/or when you are late for something. :)
so you didn't have to put a nine volt battery to keep computers settings on engine or they don't need one ever
Nope all of my settings remained the same. I guess the factory head unit has some kind of memory that stores all of that for you.
Did this on my tacoma but after security system alarm flashes lights 30 times with a clicking sound in synced with the flashing. Any ideas of what happened?
What kind of security system?
@@Tacomaholic I couldn't find a name or brand for it but when I search for 06' tacoma OEM alarm, it's the first fob that it shows but there's no brand name.

The corrosion is from acid leaking out of the top of the battery. You can clean it with Coca-Cola or the like and a wire brush.
It was perfect weather that day for a Coke too. :)

Just replaced the first battery in my 2007 tacoma. It was over 10 years old. Longest I ever had one last.

On my 15 tacoma. Every time I unhook the battery. When i hook it back up it sets off the alarm. Drives me crazy.
My wife's Rogue does that too. Scared the hell out of me the first time.
Just a tip: connect the battery leads to an external 12V supply such as an AC adaptor or a smaller 12V battery, before you disconnect the old battery. Then keep it hooked up, until the new battery is in and you have the terminals connected, then remove the external 12V supply. The computer won't realize that it was ever disconnected from the battery, because it sees 12V the entire time!
@@nabzim I assume you suggest this because of the computer, correct? I've never had any issues with the computer when replacing a battery ('13 Sequoia). The computer will relearn things as you drive.
@@Methodical2 well... I was only suggesting a method that lets the computer avoid needing to relearn anything, since it prevents it from "forgetting" anything in the first place.
The other benefits include not losing any electronic settings that you may have set up (if your car is somewhat-modern). Examples of those kinds of settings include how much time the interior lights stay on after closing the doors, and whether or not you hear an audible "ding" for the seatbelt-warning. Also any of the settings that you have changed at a dealership (or DIY using a Techstream... Only for Toyota/Lexus/scion). If you wipe the computer's memory by disconnecting it from it's power source {the battery} then all those settings will be reset!

Should have used a battery saver to protect all your settings.
