Without a doubt the best and most graceful freestyle swimmer we have ever seen. He was just so powerful and smooth at the same time. Guaranteed that he took the least amount of strokes per 50 than anyone in history. The only one who could come close to him was maybe Popov. Popovic, the 16 year old is also similar. Ian was just different than anyone else especially when he was 18 and swimming at Sydney and the 2001 worlds. At that time nobody could touch him. So versatile and at so many different distances and was so underrated as a sprinter.
They assumed correctly Ian,,,, not only were you a champion in the making , you still are! My only heart ache about your swimming career is the fact you were hounded to much, not protected enough, and retired way to early as we all know you were and are the greatest freestyle swimmer of all time , I know it, millions know it and deep down you know it , but being as humble as you are, can't publicly declare it, and i not only fully understand it , I also respect that as well. Damn Ian,,,,, you probably missed out on 20 more gold medals maybe more, but they are not as important as your well being,,,, so as painful as it is you made the right choice . Thank you for the many many inspirational things you have done, and making us feel so happy and special watching you compete. You changed the game mate, and only the very best ever do that in a sport . Wishing you the very best and maybe just maybe over time you are able to coach others to swim as good as you.
Great interview Brett, and congratulations on a stellar career thus far, you have done this country very proudly ! Hold your head very high sir, I wish there were many more like you.
I would have loved you to talk about the 2011 comback as well and the shoulder accident that cut it short. I was so bummed when that happened. But I guess it might be a painful time to talk about.

Hola. Para mi es el mejor nadador del mundo. Por encima de Phelps si no se hubiese retirado. Punto

Amazing pod cast, congratulations. I love you Ian Thorpe, the legend, the best freestyler in the history
LEGEND
Well that was funny, a swimmer being asked to have a record deal! HAHAH
They could have teamed him up with Gary Hall Jr. for a "smashing guitars" Japanese noise-style single.
Ian Thorpe is Of my top 2 swimmers of all time along with the Russian rocket.
Great interview mate!
Much appreciated!
@@InsidewithBrettHawke no problems. I hope you're doing well Hawkey!
