The NPC AI worse than in PS2 games from 15 years ago, there is basically no driving AI and everything just despawns when you turn around. The lifepaths were one of the most disappointing aspects of the game. I didn't even have high hopes either. Something akin to dragon age origins. A 1-2 hours opening, some dialog options, a specific quest, and an ending slide that mentions it. Even then I was disappointed. You get a 20 min opening, sparse dialog options, a 5 min boring quest, and no mention at the end.

Problem is, the scenarios written in DA:O not only set unrealistic expectations for mass-market RPGs, but they were incompatible with modern EA. DA:O was Bioware's (arguably) last project as an independent studio -- they were bought by EA midway through development. That's why you have the weird dichotomy of all these exclusive origin stories (most of which you may never experience -- it's even incompatible with BW's current philosophy) juxtaposed with constant requests from questgivers to buy DLC. Hell, the Deep Roads in DA2 aren't even a speck on the Deep Roads presented in DA:O, which had multiple questlines wrapped through it.
I haven't expected unique origin stories in a game since then, even in RPGs I like (such as Skyrim, which only got such origin/prologue/alt start stories through fanmods).

Hacking is easily the most OP feature of the game. Outside of Adam smasher, the system reset quick hack (or the suicide quick hack) allow you to instantly defeat any enemy from as far away as you can scan them. Also you never encounter any competent netrunners while you play, that could actually be a danger to you. They could have added a feature where you need to invest In cyber security to prevent yourself from getting hacked. But it seems like it was executed very lazily and half baked (like the rest of the game).

The quick fix for OP hacking is to pepper every adversary squad (except perhaps Maelstrom) with a netrunner that can locate the player if not taken out quickly, and some NPCs that have no implants and who are immune to hacking. It's in lore that most Animals avoid cyberware, yet I can take out 30 of them by simply toggling through the cameras at the Grand Imperial Mall.

@@jorgeloredo100 I'm against enemy nethackers getting Ultimate quickhacks (suicide/system reset/cyberpsychosis/detonate grenade). After all, these require 16 intelligence for the player. I'm in favor of them getting a wider variety of stronger combat quickhacks, and most importantly, the ability to locate the player and alert their squad after an interval if the player uses quickhacks on anything in their network. This would make it a priority for the player to locate and incapacitate the netrunner first.

I think Red Dead Redemption 2 is an example of a game that essentially matched all of its expectations (or at least my expectations). It’s not my favorite game of all time or anything and I actually think it’s a bit overrated, but I can’t deny that Rockstar hit it out of the park with ticking off all the expectation boxes for that game. Lengthy story with interesting well-acted characters, incredibly immersive open world with amazing NPC AI, gorgeous graphics, a ton of random side activities to engage in, tons of clothing and hair options for customisation, etc. all top notch quality.

100%. I saw an interview with someone from CDPR before Cyberpunks release, and he said they were trying to model their company after Rockstar, with delivering massive games that are masterpieces, every 3 to 6 years, without compromising on vision and treating their customers right too make sure they get more value for their purchase of a CDPR game... I wonder when they changed their minds lol.

    • @suprem2778
      @suprem2778 2 года назад

@@d_ruggs He briefly mentioned it in the video, but I think what the biggest problem was that CDPR just didnt and still don't have so much experience compared to Rockstar, but before CP2077 they had an amazing reputation. Also CDPR tried to rush to much stuff, especially while still working on REDengine4 and their team being like 5 or more times smaller than Rockstars.
At the end hopefully they'll learn from all these mistakes, cause I think (from a a bias opinion) CDPR is one of the last Videogame companies who actually also think of bringing out good games instead of quick cash grabs.

@@nepntzerZer this is a weird comparison and assumes that you have very little agency in life. the main difference is that in life i can approach any problem i have in different ways, and things will turn out massively different depending on what i’ve done or said, me deciding to make a choice because of a set of circumstances doesn’t suddenly negate the fact that i had those choices to make to deal with those circumstances and all of those choices would have been as varied as my own brain would allow.
what makes this comparison even weirder is that i can’t speak for everyone ever, but i’m certainly never approaching a game expecting the same level of interactivity and reactivity that i get in real life. most missions in cyberpunk compared to actual OTHER games, even in settings that are designed to feel as helpless and out of your control as cyberpunk is (the original bloodlines, for one, has an incredibly linear story that doesn’t change much no matter what you do), there are still far more outcomes for the way you complete a quest, most dialogue options can actually matter and will get you met with incredibly different responses, and NPCs will behave and treat me differently depending on how i have treated them. choices in cyberpunk, for a game that advertised itself as an RPG, are pretty lacklustre at best.

As you mentioned, T-Bug deserved SO MUCH MORE. Her "death" off screen was so sudden and nonspecific that LONG after the quest where you meet Johnny I kept expecting to see her pop back up in some manner either as a begrudging ally against the corp that burned her out of the net or a vengeful enemy, blaming you for bringing her into the heist. I didn't realize that she was actually dead until Judy (I think) mentioned off-handedly that it must have been painful for her to die like she did. All that time I simply thought she'd lost connection (albeit painfully) while being raided during the heist and that she'd escaped and gone into hiding...maybe with the Voodoo Boys. Especially since she was established as not only an extremely talented netrunner, but also eluded to being a no-nonsense bad a** who wasn't averse to a fight.
    Such a waste.
By-the-way, mentioning the abysmal vehicle physics in Cyberpunk: as I was playing the game, the entire time I couldn't help but keep thinking that the best vehicle programing I'd ever experienced in gaming was with 2015's Mad Max and the best bike programing was, hands down, 2019's Days Gone...and driving in 2077 made me wish I was playing either one of those again. I also played BotW about 6 months ago and while I don't think it's the masterpiece some people consider it, I still think it has some fantastic mechanics with potential to improve further.
Overall I prefer games that offer some exceptional and unique ideas even when mixed with mediocre or bad parts compared to good but generic and uninspired titles.
I hope that AAA studios start more to refrain from focusing on quantity/scale and visual fidelity but more on the game mechanics. Physics, controls, world/level interaction, desctruction, persistance, enemy and npc AI, ... I love this kind of long form content that obsesses over every little detail. It sucks the RUclips algorithm is starkly against such videos. All the more reason to appreciate creators who want to produce it regardless. The thoughtful breakdown of the overall structure of the story and how well it executes the intended tone and themes was my favorite aspect. The only bit of critique I might possibly offer is to spend more time discussing individual story beats, what works and what doesn't, what makes sense and what doesn't. When the Jackie montage happened I was like, wait what, wasn't I supposed to play this? I got the feeling that the writers forgot that we as players haven't worked around the story for so long like they had; so when Jackie died, I simply didn't care that much, I had very little emotional repertoire with the character, and the emotional strings they were trying to play on fell flat and the whole funeral gathering felt forced. Why you would choose to kill a character like that at the start of the game and expect me to care is beyond me, I just met the guy. If you compare that to something like Mordin Solus dying in Mass Effect, where I genuinely got upset because I like the character so much, had experienced so much with the character... it's worlds apart. Same goes for when I learned that Thane was slowly dying due to a disease. On any emotional level Cyberpunk failed, what's left is a decent shooter with a flashy story, not bad, just not what I hoped for. The age of brilliant AAA RPG's seems dead sadly; if CD Project Red can't pull it off I don't know who can, it sure as hell isn't EA.

I actually liked the game when I played it on release - I locked myself out of social media for the first two days as I anticipated the severe "failing to meet expectations" that many would encounter, and didn't want to be biased. I didn't encounter many more severe bugs, than I would expect of something like GTA or Skyrim, and I liked the story. But I haven't replayed it yet, as you point out, it is easy to see a replay would not change much of the experience.
I did however feel that the world gigs was boring as F***, and that many of the side characters story arcs had been cut. I remember feeling totally overwhelmed by the phone calls in the beginning, losing direction in the early minutes. I felt that this game world had so much potential if it had run with something like the Nemesis system of Shadow of Morder to make the underworld feel alive, and the Fixers more interesting. The game even locked you into one of the Night City zones in the beginning, giving you the perfect chance to learn underworld mechanics before moving on.
I haven't been back since release, to side-quest more, and probably won't be. I hope future quality of life upgrades and Expansions will make it worthwhile to replay some day.

No joke I thought that the ending of Cyberpunk 2077 is like half of the main quest and now it really starts off. I thought the prompt before the mission was more like "ok, new chapter and some of the side quests won't be available anymore". Like all the build up to Blackwall, Alt, Mikoshi/Secure Your Soul project, rogue AIs, ... My headcanon was that Alt will somehow help them so they both can live. V in his body and Johnny as an AI.
They would help V with the ongoing fight against Arasaka. He could get new abilities by Johnny and Alt's support from the Net. It also felt like there was a second underlying story concerning what we learned in the Dream On side quest. Who are the people controlling Jefferson? How much power do they have (the Unkown Caller + blocking my vision was one of my favorite moments)? At this moment I thought they would be somehow tied to the main story and maybe the Voodoo Boys also having a bigger role. But no, just wasted character and story potential.

Within the first few missions I had pretty much made up my mind about this game. Anyway I turned I was bumping into artificial walls being told to get back to the railroad the developer had set out for me.
Wide as an ocean. Shallow as a urine puddle. Also slightly warm and smells of asparagus.
The high point of the game was saving one of the characters that can die if you don't. You're dropped through the floor onto a lower level and have to either run or make your way back up. Because I had my cyberlegs installed I could actually jump straight up and blast the enemies from behind. It was the ONE time. The ONE TIME in the entire game that I actually felt some kind of emotional exhilaration. Not only was I saving a character I kind of liked but I was actually utilizing mechanics that the devs couldn't have predicted I would have at that point. I didn't understand the feeling at first but later it dawned on me. I was roleplaying!
I had taken an action the game had not told me to perform and in a way it had not told me to do it. After that the character obviously disappeared entirely from the story because this is CDPR we are taking about and building stories around player action is just not something they care about. But that brief moment was there.
Mama Wells was the moment the game dropped to like a permanent 3/10 from me. Cause she called right after that great moment and I had no clue who she even was. Then she started telling me about all the good times. Then she essentially turned into the devs saying "You should have picked that other option 20 hours ago if you wanted to access my content". I was actually becoming disgusted by how badly this game was designed at that point. How little they cared about the characters in the story other than Keanu Reeves. CDPR was so busy telling their story with Johnny Shoehorn they actually forgot that in my story I had NO CLUE who this woman even was.
Oh and the character I saved returned in the ending cut scene to call me a horrible person and to forever curse my name because I didn't agree to do things the corpo way. I hadn't seen him since I saved his life btw. Yep definetely a 3/10 this game. Shamefur Dispray CDRP....
Want to know something about the car chases? They are 100% scripted. It doesn't matter what you do. They are cutscenes that you can shoot guns in. Everything happens the same regardless of who you shoot at. In fact in some of the chases the game makes the enemies INVULNERABLE so you can't kill them.

This game is a total scam. It tricks the player into playing past the prologue thinking that the game will have the same quality as the first mission with Jackie. Just the fact that walls are unbreakable past the prologue shows how sneaky (or lazy) CDPR is, and this is just one game mechanic among countless that are missing. Even if they fix this they will have ruined the experience for their most loyal players, and don't expect months but years.
