    I just changed out struts on a 2000 vw beetle and someone asked if i would do their 09 Nissan maxima so I thought I would take a gander at this video beforehand. What a world of difference in difficulty. Volkswagen over engineered everything. Need a specialty tool to almost put gas into it! This is so much more simple. Ty for the vid!

    45 seconds into the video, I see that the abs sensor line is in front of the strut. When I did my son-in-laws front struts, the abs sensor lines were behind the front struts on his 2007 Nissan Maxima 3.5L.
    At the 5:00 mark, the abs wire was in front of the strut, making it a little cumbersome to get the strut out. Hence, the line should have been behind the strut.
    Less risk of tugging or damaging the abs sensor line.
    I routed the abs sensor line behind the strut the way it was originally seated and it fit perfectly.
    My fear is when you put the tire back on, if the abs line ends up rubbing against a spinning tire, it could damage the line.
    I always think safety first when it comes to car repair!
    Great video, btw.

    • @TheOriginalBeeCee
      @TheOriginalBeeCee  3 года назад +1

      The ABS Wire is in its original OE location. You’re referring to an ‘07, which is a 6th generation Max. The ABS wire was routed differently, and behind the strut. This is an ‘09 Maxima, 7th generation, and the original OE location is in front of the strut, as seen in the video. The ABS wire is exactly where its supposed to be. You can even confirm this by looking up a strut for an ‘07 and looking up on for an ‘09 and compare. Everything was original and its OE location prior to this repair, and everything went right back where it belonged

    Great tutorial! My strut mount is ripped just like yours. I thought about just replacing the mount, but if I have to do all that work to get to the mount, I may as well just replace the whole strut. My 09 has over 200,000 miles on it with the original struts.

    @4:15 Before you remove those 3 mounting nuts it is better to brake a bit (don't remove, just slightly break, maybe 1/2 turn or so) the piston rod nut (the nut in the center of the strut tower), since it would be very hard to break it when not on the car. I did so on another car (2001 Saturn SL2), but it is the same, on all 4 towers. When it is broken you can work on the assembly at your convenience without struggling w/those piston rod nuts on the ground. Now in Haynes it says to remove the cowl before those 3 mounting nut, and that involves removing the wiper motor. I'm so glad you didn't need to do any of those steps. That is probably for other cars covered by the Haynes book I have (it is for Nissan Sentra 2007 through 2012). We have 2009 Nissan Sentra. Hopefully I don't need to do it either. Thank you so much for this great and detailed film.

    • @TheOriginalBeeCee
      @TheOriginalBeeCee  Год назад +1

      That would be true if you planned on removing spring. I only use ready-mounts as utilized in this video, so no need at all to brake the center nut if utilizing ready-mounts. But even if you were compressing spring etc., that nut is easily cracked loose with an impact once off the vehicle.

    • @olenaerhardt7725
      @olenaerhardt7725 Год назад

      @@TheOriginalBeeCee But if the springs are good you can keep them for emergency. I also will install the assembly. 1st wanted just to replace the struts, but then decided to go w/assemblies (not that much experience, I replaced just 1 set of struts). Thank you for then replay.

    • @TheOriginalBeeCee
      @TheOriginalBeeCee  5 месяцев назад

      Yes more than likely ABS sensor. If you have access or buy a decent OBDII scanner, you can read the codes and confirm its the sensor/and the side. They can be extremely sensitive, i would double check both sides and ensure nothing looks out of place.

    • @TheOriginalBeeCee
      @TheOriginalBeeCee  Год назад

      Open the front door. With some light/medium pressure, rock the car….by putting pressure on the open door…with intention of making it rock on the front wheel/strut. Might sound weird while reading this, but once you go do it, it will make more sense lol. But open door, rock the car by putting pressure on the open door and you will even see the front bouncing a bit while you do this. If you hear it, then you know have a bad strut. You can even go one step further with this and do it with a partner, while you or they rock the car with the open door, the other person can look/listen for any disturbance on the strut mount, and also listen closely around the strut area while its being rocked up & down. Also, struts/shocks can be visibly inspected, if you see any leaking down the body of a strut/shock, you know its on its way out.
      *EDIT: For a visual explanation of what I am referring to check out this video @ 8:39 from The Car Wizard:

    Is the Front upper Strut Shock Mount Kit w/Bearing needed for this installation. I have a 2014 Maxima and I have a lot of movement after install. Is the mount kit needed?

    • @TheOriginalBeeCee
      @TheOriginalBeeCee  Год назад

      I only use ready-mount full strut assemblies when replacing struts. Much easier to install and replaces it all. But I would definitely replace the strut mount when replacing struts, as you can see on this car the mount is actually what failed. Ready-mount struts are the way go so you can easily replace it all.
