  • Hi, I'm a completely new to "souls-like" and Fromsoft games! This video almost marks the end of my journey through-out DS1 which the first game in the series I'm playing! I really like this Artorias of the Aybss DLC! Artorias not so much, but Sanctuary Guardian is peak! Manus was ok, kinda forgettable and Kalameet was quite cool! (Same with Hawk-eye Gough) Hope you enjoyed this video, I put a lot of effort into it!

    Most of the music provided by Rick, Heathrane & Neo-Midgar! They make really cool remixes and remakes of classic OST, I'd recommend checking them out if you're into that sort of thing!

    As a soulsborne enjoyer. I can tell the shield spamming comes from too much Sekiro. It’s always a good option to prevent upcoming damage.

    Artorias was doing a ton of damage because you weren't interrupting him when he was buffing up sob
    Also if you didn't like him because he's a ''kick your ass'' boss like you said i don't think you're gonna like a lot of the hyped up bosses in DS3 either :P
    But im glad you liked the DLC overall!!

      As long as DS3 bosses are interesting and engaging rather than just "Min max & Insta-death" and nothing else. Then I'll be happy! (Nameless king and SoC are pretty much the only bosses I Fully know about and are hyped for!) Also that does make sense for damage, I would've NEVER figured out he was buffing in a 1000 years because that attack reminded me of earlier ones such as Queelag's, Moonlight Butterfly & Nito's "Poof" attacks...

      @@snow9100 After re-reading these comments, I wanted to fix a little miscommunication on my part, It's not that I didn't like him for being a "Kick your ass boss" (this sounds so whiny lol) it's that I felt that he was too focused on that but still DIDN'T deliver, (Manus did it better #TeamAbyss) Not to mention him feeling like nothing new really made me sad, I was tired of this game (2nd half specifically) and seeing the same thing (from a really hyped boss that is also DLC) really soured me and probably resulted in me really disliking the fight more than usual... 1 last thing, Thanks for the nice & positive comments on my videos and I hope to not be a whiny bitch for ds3 lmao.

    Pretty interesting chapter. I like Artorias because it's "just" a knight and fight him feels more intuitive than a strange random monster with that levels of attack speed.
    But I understand your point. It's very fast and agreesive and that can do the learning curve very different in a bad way compared to other bosses if you don't get it instinctively at first point.
    I read your pinned comment and I hope your hipe for DS3 don't ruined yourself. It's true that the bosses, in general, have better telegraphed attacks, but the whole game it's faster and the shields are a bit less reliable. You need to instinctively roll more often because the stamine desapear.
    But the good point it's that you already know how works that tipe of game and it's a well named secuel. So I guess you will be fine at all.
    About the shiel you carry, as you say, it's cool. It's the third best standard shield of the game (2nd Balder Knight Shield and 1st Silver Knight Shueld). It's worth upgrade it to lose less stamina per hit bloqued.
    And very nice fights for Manus and Kalameth. Very good performance. You don't even know how mach struggle sone people with them. For those to it's what I guess you can enjoy DS3.
    Also pretty impressive management switching the shield and the 2 handed weapond when needed. That's something rare to see on a first run.
    Good luck with the last boss. And have patience. I expect you to hate him even more than Artorias. Has some points on common and even worst thing if you whant to figth fairly. When you know things, it's practically a meme, but blindly it's a big pain in the @#!.

      I just wanted to thank you for being here consistently & understanding that I'm a first time player and realizing that I don't instantly know what every move is and and what they do! and not just saying I'm wrong for getting annoyed at a sour experience. (Ill admit I was harsh on artorias because I didn't know that his "poof" move "changes the entire fight". Nonetheless, I am Very excited for ds3 and from what I have seen i'm very happy! (I'M SLOWLY INCHING TOWARDS ELDEN RING) I hope to see you're still here 53 years in the future when I finally get to elden ring!

    The skill level for the dlc is much higher than the base game, and dictate the skill level for the rest of the soulsborne series as a whole
    The dlc heavily punish players which are "too defensive", like: one attack, shield up, one attack, shield up, so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to you try to dodge more and use your shield to defend less, then you reposition, punish more effectively the enemies at the same time and have more stamina to attack, with the shield you still not take the damage, but you stay still for the entire attack animation, you are more susceptible to enemies follow-ups or extra enemies, and if your stamina is gone, you will take the full damage
    What I do with shields is (if in fact go after one): use only for stats bonus or buffs, theres a shield called "grass crest shield", it is not a 100% absorption to physical damage, but while equiped (in hand or on your back) it will increases the stamina regeneration, so you have to put on the balance, which is more important, get it?
    But still, if you don't want to retire as shield adept, it's a MUST you learn how to parry, and parry times
    It will be awesome if you "say goodbye" to shields in the final boss, the next phase could be considered backsiting so...
    All sword attacks from the final boss are parriable

    • @mcspeedy
      @mcspeedy  17 дней назад

      Thanks for the tips, I even have the grass crest shield upgraded for farming souls already (makes the run back nicer). And I'm aware of the shield reliance issue, I'm planning in ds3 to preform a full "Mental reset" and try to unlearn combat to rely more on dodging because I heard shields are sub-optimal or straight up useless in ds3!

    Artorias is a lot easier when you space his attacks he has limited range and his moves are cleanly telegraphed by his sword. If felt lile a proper duel.
    Having said that I got absolutely crushed by manus. I felt like his attack frequency is crazy, his moves are barely distinguishable by animation and his flury attack cant be rolled or straved, and took out 60% of my health.
    I guess its a preference and we all have different experiences.
    Also I suggest you take your time during explorstion in ds3 both for the amazing scenery and small details which can be missed if rushed and because you will die less often if you dont throw yourself at the enemies headlessly, good luck.

    Artorias my #1 favorite boss tho, it's cool design and lore, everything it's just fits him. The difficulty is also fine just like the lore.

    • @mcspeedy
      @mcspeedy  17 дней назад

      Difficulty was fine, Hes was rather easy aswell, But his instant death one-shots and Inescapable frame traps (also Instant death) was my issue with him, His fight felt almost the same as bed of chaos did. Especially with all the "hype" I was extremely disappointed in what I saw! I will sayh something positive about him, I think he has the coolest lore and arena so far! the Design team killed it with him!

      @@mcspeedy This guy just straight up said the Artorias fight is almost like the Bed of Chaos fight. The most ridiculous opinion I have seen in a long time.
      Maybe try to stop the boss from buffing and up your low vitality, and you won't get one-shotted. Not chugging Estus literally right in front of the boss as he is preparing to attack might help as well.

    • @mcspeedy
      @mcspeedy  17 дней назад

      @@arthurdent9160 Sorry for the lack of clarity, I meant to say that dying to him had the same "frustrating" (I dont know if that's the right way to put it) feeling! Not that he's on the same level as BoC... it's my frustration/feeling at the death was the same not the fight.

    • @arthurdent9160
      @arthurdent9160 17 дней назад

      @@mcspeedy No offence, but the reason you were frustrated is because you weren't properly prepared for this fight.
      Your low vitality paired with rarely preventing Artorias from buffing meant his hits cost a lot of your HP. This is not the same at all as there being "insta death" moments.
      The only "frame trap" is the 3 hit somersault combo which a) can be avoided by blocking or dodging as you did later and b) deals reduced damage when it flattens you and catches you in a stun lock. It's called a combo hit and many bosses have it.
      And again you were super impatient with healing, chugging Estus right in front of the boss. Of course this will likely end you catching a fat sword to the face.
      Overall, the boss is hard but fair, as are all bosses in dark souls. It's fine for you to not enjoy any fight, but your complaints are just objective wrong. There are no "Instant death" moments and no "frame traps" in this fight if you do it properly.

    I will say I understand your take on Artorias to some extent, even if I feel like you were still learning his moves. Mostly I feel it is the fault of the (second half) of the main game for not teaching the player. The DLC is absolutely a step up in difficulty from the main game, and there are basically no bosses in the main game that teach you to get tactical with healing and dodging except maybe the Bell Gargoyles and O+S. And the Asylum Demon and Taurus Demon have cheese opportunities that allow you to get by without learning roll timings or safe healing windows. If Nito or Seath was a more Artorias- or Manus-level boss that taught directional rolling, I think that the Manus and Artorias fights would have been more enjoyable. If you play Artorias like a DS3 boss he's an exhilarating fight, dodging instead of blocking his 3-hit combo and rolling to the side of his charge attacks. However, the game doesn't really teach players to learn roll timings and safe healing windows, it teaches them to block everything, which is really fun in DS1 anyway. But as it stands if a player does't learn to dodge and instead face-tanks everything the way that the rest of the game teaches you, it can definitely be unfulfilling. Hopefully you find the DS3 tutorials more intuitive.

    A couple things; firstly. Idk if you know this. But Gough cannot see. He’s a silly little guy and doesn’t realize his helmet is full of resin. So he sniped kalameet with no eyes.
    Secondly. You never saved baby sif from the abyss 😢
    Thirdly. Artorias punishes very defensive players and ranged players alike with his buffs and hyper aggression. He is much faster paced then every other ds1 boss. You just went from slow paced bosses like Seath who is a massive, slow target with huge openings to counter attack to a human like enemy who is, I believe, the fastest paced boss in the game. If you do not like him, you’re going to hate ds3. Because they amp up the boss speed to make Artorias look average or even slow. Ds2 is the only game (imo) with artificially added difficulty.
    Fourth, a bit of lore about Artorias. He’s a lefty. And used to wield a shield. You’re vsing his off hand, no shield, and he’s insane.. when is the dlc to fight full strength Artorias?

    • @mcspeedy
      @mcspeedy  18 дней назад

      Lmao afterwards I saw where sif was and got annoyed, because as you saw before the manus fight I went out my way to check for invisible walls AND I STILL DIDN'T FIND SIF! Also I am aware of the lore and what happened to Artorias I even remembered to animate his left hand limp because it's broken, and on the model itself he has a gash in his shoulder plate that I suspect might be the "Major" injury he sustained in the abyss and the reason his (entire) arm is limp.

    For some clarity on my feelings about Artorias, I HEAVILY felt that from-soft saw all the "Buzz" and Popularity their game was getting online and more for being "insanely difficult"(Spoiler, it's not!) and decided to double-down on the "difficulty" Specifically in the Artorias boss fight, He felt like a marketing piece "Look how insane this boss is!" "He's even Harder than our Previous ones!" (He's even on the damn DLC Poster...) and It seemed like they focused on that and NOTHING ELSE when designing the boss fight. I feel like as a result, he's feels like he's missing something... Charm? Engagement? Enjoyment? This was the first boss I felt like I had to get overly technical with and min max rather than just play naturally/normally- To an extent were you can't enjoy the boss fight at all! (Also did anyone else feel like he was from a different game?) Anyways, Sorry for the disappointed rant, I just expected more or BETTER from the "Great" Artorias. Atleast he's with Sif now... 😔

      He’s not really all that tough. Maybe you were under leveled (average around 60). As long as you don’t just let him buff, and stagger him when he tries. You should be fine.
