Precious was a horror movie.
Definitely the kind of movie you only watch once, and you were lucky if you got thru it the first time. Only movie I can think of in a few decades that made me nearly gag. I've absolutely NEVER had that reaction to a movie and I think that Texas Chainsaw Massacre 74 was a work of art. Precious is the movie that made my stomach sour. Fuckin BRUTAL content.

I am native American. And mixed with alot of other stuff. But this let me know not am not alone and I do not suffer just by my self and that I need to help other people like me. That's why I love that movie.

I know this is 5 years old, but it I think some people don’t understand things unless they’ve gone through it. I watched precious when I was younger, and I just thought of it was a disturbing weird movie. When I grew up, and went through some things, the movie touched my heart.
I finally understood the pain that comes with abuse; degradation and heartbreak.
I understand what sexual assault feels like, low self esteem ect. Having No hope, and rough situations. But staying determined, healing from old trauma, and staying optimistic is the way out.

The first time i seen precious was on Thanksgiving my uncle brought it over and the scene when Monique dropped the tv down on Precious we all started screaming. My uncle was like "damn i didn't know it was gonna be like that". It was sooo funny oh my gosh. Our reactions was funny , that scene was scary though. LOL

I saw Precious when it came out. That's the kind of movie everyone SHOULD see, but you only need to see it once. It's so hard and raw and it tears you up inside, the life of this young girl. It deserves to be watched by EVERYONE, if only just one time.

I thought Precious was a very offensive disturbing movie too. Though Monique was great in it, Mariah was good too. And Gaborey was good for a new actress, I didn't think she deserved a nomination for Best Actress. It's a film you watch...and you're glad you watched...but you don't want to see again. Only racists would use it against black people...but then they're racist to begin with. I'd argue that censoring women's stories because racists will exploit them is letting women down. But I understand why there is the worry. What is described in 'Precious' happens in white families (I'm white). It happens in Asian families etc. There are only a couple of details which are peculiar to black people - and not all black people, at that. Personally, I'm glad that Sapphire's story was told (albeit dramatised). Because it happens to so very many women as children.
