No lie, I study NRM, conservation of animals specifically so my many hours in zoology will shine here. If you homebrew a playable otter or otter-folk then you gotta add pack tactics because they are well known for complicated family dynamics and group hunting (like little river wolves), natural bite attack of 1d4+dex mod, Fury of the Small, you said tool proficiency but I would also hoemebrew a "collectors proficiency" (a natural know how of what 's useful to stash in your otter pockets), and I would personally give them the Favored Enemy trait because otters are well known for being smarter than the average Bugbear and knowing EVERY trick and technique to get to their favorite food.
"Luterrin training" proficiency with improvised tools. Weapons proficiency, Spear. Sling. Net. "the nose knows" advantages with Perception and Survival when relying on smell. "Aww" you use your natural adorableness, (once betw. short rests, enemies disadvantage to attacks against you if within 10 feet of you)
I would say "Aww" should only work on non evil creatures simply because there are people who club baby seals for fun. Evil creatures don't care about cute creatures.
i, no joke, watched this video at least a dozen times 🤣 i’m now borderline obsessed with otterfolk as a playable race for my players, and incorporating them deeply in my game world. i now have several pages filled in my DM journal of rules for them as a race, and a new monk path: way of the tum tum. and a piskie race (fine size, 1-4”). and one piece’s tontattas (diminutive size, 4-12”). and variant carry rules and size charts to bring some pathfinder rules crunch to 5e, but tweaked for new bounded rules. i need to sleep now 🤣
@@Rookzer0 Thank you for responding I love your art style and get super-inspired every time I watch one of your videos I'm currently working on getting a computer and a drawing tablet to start drawing digitally, I currently don't have any paper and searching for any advice on which drawing tablet/digital canvas I should buy.
I had a ferret folk type character in a 3.5e game that was a state alchemist. Had to have his tail replaced with an automail equivalent. You can believe i did the Sonic ball dash every chance i got.
This made me wonder about other animals as dnd characters, but then I thought...dinosaurs... what do you think a pterodactyl would be played as in dnd?
do you mean as a Playable character? like a ranger or assassin would be pretty awesome or do you mean what dnd animal is most like a pterodactyl. because you can just be a pterodactyl np. they definitely exist in dnd.
Love this, keep up the great work! Otterfolk rule! If you can, could you try doing Owlfolk? I'm interested in the race, but just reading about them hasn't helped me much, more of a verbal/visual person lol
thanks for some ideas. I am a Dm and my player took the criminal background, they tend to like having me write a character for their criminal contact. I am thinking maybe a otterfolk fisherman who is a bit of a conspiracy theorist (maybe their theories could be based on stuff from spelljammer lol )
@@shmee123ful You could always run your campaigns with less dangerous creatures. A lot of the animal stats can be swaped out for flavor. There are some giant Moa birds and large lizards/spiders that you could easily used the stat block for but with some assie theme
I may just not have them roll for squeezing though tight spaces. I suppose you Could give them an advantage on the Acrobatics check if that's what you were referring to.

You know. that makes a lot of sense. I'll update the character statblock.
"Luterrin training"
proficiency with improvised tools.
Weapons proficiency,
Spear.
Sling.
Net.
"the nose knows"
advantages with
Perception and Survival when relying on smell.
"Aww"
you use your natural adorableness,
(once betw. short rests, enemies disadvantage to attacks against you if within 10 feet of you)
Those are all great options. Well done. I love The Nose knows.

Yes! Player races are back!
More to come!
Hear me out, can cast Magic Stone for free once per day, but only on their favourite rock.
I'd allow it!
I shall now make an otterfolk monk and homebrew the way of the tumtum style.
Me asking myself why would I ever want to play an otter, also me trying to get a necromancer horse to work
Playing as the horse that is a necromancer? Could be done. I ran a game with a player who was a ranger horse with a human companion.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Get some rest and keep working on those sweet otterfolk!
Ooh can you share the way of the tum tum, I'm intrigued to see more homebrew with otterfolk!
An Otter wizard ? That mean their spells come from... Otter Space ?
I need a sticker that says "Way of the TumTum" but also I LOVE this idea!!!
done
and now i need to make some rules for way of the tumtum for my own campaign. this rules
omg path of the iron tumtum!! I am so sold!!
I'm working on building it for dnd beyond
I would love to play an artic otter folk variant since a love snow
Avoid any dificult terrain that can be slid across on your tum tum

@@Rookzer0 cool. i have to ask are there any assie animals in the monster mannels or creature books?
