- This is called a 'Jetti'. There are five types of folk songs sang at the Phagwah/Holi festival namely: 'Chowtaal', 'Chaiti', 'Jeti', 'Baiswaara' and 'Jhoomar'. I had the opportunity of capturing two of the rarest styles hardly ever sung again in these our times, perhaps of the difficulty itself and the dedication and tutorship it requires. 'Chowtaal' and 'Jhoomar' are styles commonly sung and heard quite often for the Phagwah/Holi festival.
However, with still a few individuals/groups having knowledge and the ability to teach and sing the various styles of folk songs for Phagwah/Holi, the members of the 'Pundit Chandreka Persad Ramayan & Chowtaal Group' of Suchit Trace Penal have the ability to engage in all uptil this day. Amongst the many members of the senior and youth girl and boys groups respectfully, their Group Leader: Uncle Raj, Lead Singer: Mr. Ajodha Bhagowti (Boyon), Drummer: Mr. Narine Bhagowti (Gomes) are their propeller, strength and role model.
