My vr which I owned in 1995 was a series 1 .it had a silver painted garnish between the yellow blinkers on the boot.i ordered the red series 2 boot garnish which looked like the taillights.also I ordered the front grill inserts out of a series 3 ute 2001 which was black grills and a redoutline.yes it was a vs series 3.the Holden V8 5.0 still was produced after the 2000 to 2001.long live the Holden 5.0.

Bet those little touches made it look great, the red rear garnish is super rare since it wasn’t made for long.

One thing I was not happy about when the car was new.without flogging the engines for some reason they kept on spinning conrod bearings.i went thru 3 vr engines and end up converting a VN 5spd engine with the different crankshaft.that motor never let go.

When the series 1 was coming out I was 19 living in Gympie QLD and went down to Madills Holden the evening before the VR was released to look at it sitting in the showroom behind glass.

Those days were great, I did the same with the VT, saw them all parked out the back of a dealership and most didn’t even have hub caps on them..

Love the video as I still have my VS that I purchased when it was only 18 months old! But there need to be a few corrections in the video. First the new key design didn't recharge the battery it only incorporates the immobilisation feature for the VATS and buttons for central locking. The speed alert in series II dose not have the low fuel or handbrake warning chime. That was Berlina upwards integrated into the Instrument cluster.

Thanks mate, from the option list cut and paste
“Lamp & chime warning for: parking brake on while vehicle moving, low fuel S = Standard for Exec, Acclaim, S & SS, - Also this is a cut and paste of the writing under the speed alert in the brochure “ The new speed alert system gives visual and audible warning if the car exceeds your pre-set speed limits. Also, new lamp and chime warning highlights low fuel and car moving with handbrake on” check the video at 3.06 mins
The trip computer cars had more warning chimes for high temp etc with all the speed alert and park brake warnings incorporated.
With the Key my knowledge says otherwise but I could be wrong as it’s not called out in the brochure, my 94 VR has its original key I’ve had the car over 20 years, now that I don’t use it much, the remote doesn’t work unless I take it for a good drive then it works.

Love VR series i still got S pack 5.0lt V8 automatic ute but its modified with 220kw n upgrade VT brakes as all VR brakes weren't good. Only wish ute had come with climate control. Later i brought VR Berlina series with V6 automatic again modified with cold air, headers n exhaust it was good on fuel economy about 8lts per 100kms. Then i brought another VR series 2 Acclaim with IRS, airbags with V6 automatic for my mum as this car replace HJ 202 Kingswood that done its time n kms 3 times around clock.

The ute sounds tuff, the brake upgrade is definitely worthwhile, have that on some of mine as the brakes on VN-VS are not great. The Berlina got great economy, I also really like both VR & VS Acclaim.. in NZ they never got the VR S and the Acclaim had the VN SS wheels so it was almost their S
