HOWDY everyone! Thanks for having fun with this one!
What’s a video you’d like to see me make next?
Breaking out to a larger audience without hurting your core?
I have a nice core group of viewers who will literally watch me clean for an hour. But I’m stalling out on new subs because, well, not a ton of people want to watch a random chick clean for an hour.
I’d like to hear more about how to use the comment section.
Has anyone *really* talked about playlists and their use?
This is an interesting topic suggestion @MillennialMeg . I started my gaming channel with Minecraft, and even games that I know share an audience just don't get nearly the same views.
And btw @ThatNateBlack, I appreciate that your titles always tell me what's coming. I'm so tired of wading through generic "Monetize fast with THIS" type vids trying to find specific topics.
All of my videos are tailored for cold audiences where I strictly stick to my niche, but I also want to create less edited more candid content for warmer audiences as I want to deepen connections and guide them towards my paid services. Is this content mix likely to impact my overall channel performance? Instead, should I try and take the warm audience off youtube and to another platform? Appreciate all you do Nate!
I cut out all the "Please like, subscribe, blah blah" bit at the end of the videos and basically jump into the end screen unannounced. And end element clickrate did skyrocket since then.
same here. most people subscribe w/o us reminding them to do so. When we think in our audience's shoes, we will create a better experience for them. I also do my best to keep my messages short and simple to help them save time. The first 30 secs audience retention is the most important
I spent this entire video anxiously expecting a cut off ending…
Me too!
Me too!!!
Yup
Haha yeah it was stressing me out a bit 😅
I started doing this and when one video took off the other videos started getting views. Now I have a clear direction for creating content and I don’t have to paint with objects! 🎉 Thank you, for continuing to show up despite all the drama.
Congratulations on your journey may you continue to grow 🙏 subscribed to your channel 🙏
I'm glad to find you again, Nate. You convinced me that it was safe to take a hiatus back on your old channel and I'm pleased to report that my subscribers tripled while i was away. Time to go work on my end screens.😊
PERFECT video! No fluff talk, no pauses, no longness... very happy of this content super VALUE!!! And, of course, amazing end-video!!! 🎉🎉🎉
I've been doing this. Never thought of it as a strategy, just put extra thoughts at the end.
yeah to package everything logical what people do as success strategy...its just a breakdown of things like empathy with the viewer which isnt acquired through any training.
I always watch to the end on your channel. But you did get me at the end 😂😂😂
same here. on most channels as long as I am interested in that video, I will watch the full video on 1.25 playback speed. This is my way of respecting that person as a creator and also learn what they do well and not so that I can improve on my videos 😂😂😂
I had not considered a blooper reel at the end of my videos! That may be neat for my dedicated viewers! Thanks Nate! 💜
So a little thing that I have been trying out in my channel (or more specifically videos that actually have me in it), is that I do a closing catchphrase and then do a “trick” to make myself disappear only to leave it with an empty space where I am not in the camera which makes an excellent opportunity to put up end screens on.
Maybe that’s just me, but it is a decent thought.
excellent advice and I sure was guilty of giving away the ending in my earlier videos. Once I made a conscious decision to be snappier with the intros and endings my retention line looks much steadier. Always room for improvement! Nate, I will take your advice and try directing people to other videos on my channel ...
I've been doing playlists for end screens, but I'm going to focus on just a video and maybe add a bonus on the end or an ask. Very creative. Thank you!
My man Nate always killing it. Thanks Nate!
Awesome video Nate, as usual, thank you so much!
I’ve have actually been waiting for this video from you lol. I noticed some time ago that you pivoted towards this strategy and admittedly, I started ending my videos much more quickly. My last video I “cut to black“ for a second or two to let the end screen run into the black. Thanks for the great content Nate.
Nate - great video! Love how you showed a number of different ways to end videos, but all with a "next video" recommendation. Love your direct, to-the-point, very-well-researched, and backed-by-data content. Has helped my channel a lot! Keep it up, my friend!
Just looked over my analytics and noticed I'm not really gaining any traffic from my end screen. I'm definitely missing a key opportunity there. Thanks for pointing it out, Nate! I’ll need to focus on improving that aspect.
You talk from your outcomes,
You are building this channel and showing how to build ours through your tactics
Thanks Nate
I've been trying to do the cut off, but then i thought people know the end is nigh because of the end screen. Good to know it works anyway.
The trick is to add a blank screen for a few seconds after youre done and only have the end screen show up there. That way the end screen video doesnt show up while youre still talking.
Oh wow! I've started pointing to end screen instead of goodbye stuff lately because you've talked about it before but I hadn't checked stats. I have a video with 8.8% end screen! Yay!
Sometimes it’s the simplest things! Thank you for sharing. Always appreciate your help. 😊
I’m posting my first travel video this weekend and trying this, thanks Nate! 😆
Hey Nate - this is probably the best and original advice I've heard in a while.
I did notice you abruptly ending your vids for a while now, but it was great to hear your reasoning behind it, as well as different tips for other possible endings.
I'll be experimenting with them this week (truth be told, I was getting tired of my own endings, so it was high time for a change anyway :D )
Thanks Nate! I use end screens but make tge mistake of thanking my viewers for too long at the end. It is a long polite goodbye. I definitely need to shorten it. Thanks for the great advice!
Great Video!
Ive been using end screens since the beginning of my channel and it really works.
I was making the mistake of blabbering to long at the end of my videos and since ive stopped, I did notice a difference in retention!
Thanks again Nate for your work
Well done! I'm editing the next video now and will cut out the goodbyes and just end it to see how it works out!
Your delivery is always so cool and entertaining!!
Thanks for the advice, Nate! I used this in my most recent video, and it's killing it in terms of end screen element clicks!
yes! that's what I like to hear!
Super helpful, thank you! I've been using the end screen feature in RUclips for a while but hadn't given a lot of thought to how I could more effectively weave it into my strategy via seeding, call to action, etc. Definitely planning on trying this.
Can't wait to try this! But first - I must organize my files. I ran out of storage and I'm moving things around on a new portable drive.
Awesome energy and advice. Keep it coming!
I'm really enjoying your latest videos.
Before the jump cuts were way to overwhelming for me and your personality comes through so much more now.
It inspires me to make some changes of my own! Thanks!
Another mistake: having endings that are too short, specially when they are abrupt, because there is no time to click on the video sugessted and if you have a playlist of videos running (like i always have the "watch later" playlist) it will play the next video but from a diferent channel, not yours.
I somehow used the same tactic, but only with the video cards that you can paste during the video. By talking about a topic, I was able to at the same time kinda "promote" my previous video that is similar to this one, but could be counted as a sequel. I even inserted some visual effects like red arrow and a sound effect, to give the viewers attention to that video card. This somehow "blew up", to my standards, a month old video, doubling its views.
Maybe this can help someone as well 😅

Thanks Nate! I'v wanted to apply some end screen stratagy for a while but the structure of my videos is such that they end in a showcase which really tends to let the audience know the video is over... I'm not sure there's a way around that that would still be true to the video but perhaps there's a way to better integrate a call to action into my showcase. Thanks for getting me thinking!
I would love a video on how to think about interperating and learning from the performance of past videos to improve future ones.
Thanks for this advice - I split my recent holiday and first set of videos into days - my most comments have been from people telling me the next one doesn’t work (because I’m uploading weekly and it’s not there yet) wooo 👏
Excellent video Nate, Definitely going to change up my end screens a bit now.
💥BOOM💥!! I’ve always been a fan of the cut off style you use Nate👌. Solid video again as usual man. I will definitely continue to try and work on improving this part of my videos. Enjoy the rest of your week man.
Often wondered if our salutations make people drop before our end screens. We are going to try some of these great tips. Thanks! 😊
I also wanted to find out what others choose on their end screens? We typically choose “best for viewer “ hoping RUclips will choose based on the viewers preference.
Awesome video! Love what you did with the comments video! I remember when you gave advice on end screens a long time ago & I've been following it on my channels & its worked wonders! Thanks!
Howdy Howdy Natey! i love how you end your videos, very quick and you do not know its coming some of the time, very useful info matey, thank you! Will try it out soon!
thanks Nate! I'll play around with some of these ideas.. personally I love bloopers at the end.
I've been noticing this trend for a few months. Austin Evans once said "Don't let the viewer smell the blood that the video is ending" so I think this much faster sudden end screen works well. Rather than the "thanks for watching" that let's you know you can just click off, the very abrupt "Watch this for [X reason]" ensures the viewer doesn't have time to click off and is more willing to click on another.

This is something I wish I learned earlier on. I wish I could go change the endings to some of my older videos. Great video, brother, somebody boop the like button for him
Maybe change, update some editing and reupload? :)
@@Airyuck I would do that, but all those old videos are getting views consistently every day. I don’t want to take the chance of messing that up
@@FixItFrench Oh I see. That is understandable
@@Airyuck I will definitely be doing it too every one of my future videos though 👍🏼
@@FixItFrench I wish you the best I hope it works out for you!
Mighty hugs thanks for today’s wonderful learning🤗💜I’m also trying to improve my end screens
Good morning Nate! Thanks for more great tips and insights ❤
Good morning!
I just enjoy your content so much I watched this video twice! Keep em coming!
Thanks for the video Nate. I've been trying to figure out how I want to do my end screens lately. I think I'll give some of these a go.
You got my creative juices flowing. Gonna try a clip of me in real life to the end of my math tutorials. Thanks!!
Nate you beauty, this has given me great inspiration for my next couple of videos and how I can use the end screens to get viewers to watch these videos. I'll be subtly mentioning what they should be watching next throughout the videos by creating a little interest in that topic and the end screen will take them there. This was so helpful, thank you.
Thank you Nate, I always appreciate your superior advice. I will focus on putting this in action better. Have you tried planning three videos ahead and then have the end screens come full circle back to the original? That would be fun. I look forward to your videos endings and that builds up so much anticipation. Russ
Thank you Nate for this wonderful video on END SCREENS, I give these endings ago
Howdy Nate. I'm trying your tip from a previous video to introduce youtube to as much as my content as I humanly can make. Wish you the best on your journey and thank you for your videos.
I've been watching your end screen strategy for a while, and one thing that always strikes me is how short your end screens are. I was always taught to use the whole 20 seconds, because that gives people more time to react. But I've always been conflicted about that because starting it 20 seconds from the end really telegraphs that it's THE END. Thanks for shaking my thinking up!
Great video as usual. I've been kinda floundering a bit on what to do on my end screens/thank you. This definitely gives me something to think about.
I do a thank you format at the end w/ a static cut to a subscribe image. I did have my end screens there originally, but I moved them up to the actual thank you screen to help push more clicks. Maybe I'll try cutting my thank you down and doing an abrupt cut to the end screen.
Great advice! Thanks, Nate.👍
Thank you for this stuff it's too helpful
I just added my first end screen for tech updates on Apple. I will include the sudden ending for the next one, little by little I'm improving thanks to channels like this!
I have been doing this for a long time and it definitely works. Great stuff!
Trying this! 😝 Thanks for the valuable info!!!
I noticed that Dan Mace does this and it definitely works. Thank you for your great advice!
Great info amigo ... Typing it into my "RUclips Getting Started" document ... Gracias Amigo !!!
Your videos are so good! Your channel is the best on helping out You-Tubers with new ideas. Seriously, you are the only one who genuinely thinks and helps. I really appreciate it. Thanks for making these
You have great content brother . Great value
Great information. We have trying to work towards not ending our videos. Good tips here! - Michelle
We usually do the "Thanky" style but the "last laugh" style you showed here has sparked some inspiration so we might give that a try!
Great video Nate - appreciate it!
This is a great idea thanks. I am always looking to improve my content
So Spot-on AGAIN -thx!!!
Thank you for explaining how this can work for a creator! I am going to plan ahead to try it!!!! 📝
Once again Nate hits the fix button for end screens. I'm going to have to sit down and go over my channel and see how to get this working right. Thanks Nate, we're going to work on this !🤠
Gonna implement this for sure great tips
Man, this is great advice, Nate! I always use end screens... but I have about a 10-second "2 daily mantras" I do at the end of every vlog, and when I don't do it... I get comments like, "where were the 2 mantras? WTH?" ... how do you balance THAT? FWIW, My end screen CTR is about 0.9%
End screens and how to set up the end of my long form interview videos so they want to click the next recommendation has always been a blind spot for me. I plan to practice your advice. Thanks, Nate!
This is so useful! Thanks!
I've only recently started actively using the end screen. I tend to let it go for a while longer than I probably should - often it's a static environmental shot. Thanks for the great advice.
Hey Nate,
Getting someone to click an endscreen has always seemed pretty impossible with us. We noticed the expirement you were running with yours before you published this video so when you released this a month ago we watched it day 1 (I think).
We've been working on honing our end screen game and we've already seen some positive results. There's one video in particular that we've put on a few endscreens with minimal results - we applied your method (although I still don't think we did a good enough job teasing that it was coming throughout the video) and in the first 2 hours we already were getting way more end screen clicks than usual.
Just wanted to say thanks!
This was great! Great timing too. I just had my most successful video ever in the first 24 hours and realized I hadn't put the End Screen up! 🤦♀Will think about how to use some of these strategies.
I'm definitely going to try the "last laugh" method for my videos, as a reaction channel there are definitely some funny moments i cut out of the main body of the video that could be useful to help viewers stay until the end of the video and perhaps engage them to watch more!
Your mic got me looking at Amazon, I went to the description to see if you referenced it. Affiliate links work ✌🏼
This is a great idea, i am going to start doing this.
This video is dead on the money. I have always been trying to optimize my ending but I really do need to do better with keeping it short and skipping the long goodbyes. Whistlin Diesel has the most abrupt endings ever and I've sat through ads to see if it's actually over lol.
Question though, some channels I follow show merch at the end of their videos so I started doing the same with a bump in sales with each video upload. I take a full 10 seconds to show this after my normal closing remarks. My question is, do I keep the merch aspect a full 10 seconds and I shorten the closing remarks...OR...do I combine my closing and merch plug combined a max of 10 seconds?
Woo! Caught a video early. I've been thinking about other creative ways to do end screens as well to try.
Welcome to the early crew!
I started just mentioning the next video and pointing to a spot on the screen and the end screen doubled. I might try this editing
Hey Nate, what are your thoughts on keeping things simple in the end screen? One recommended video as opposed to two, or two videos and a link? Is it better to make a clear call to action or give options?
Nate, I'm just so relieved to know that I don't need to be polite to you!
Imagine the tremendous release of pressure that gives me. :)
I sort of caught on to this before the video I’ll admit, but this video really helped explain more and show me how to do it in the best ways possible. Thx Nate!
Been watching and usually spend most of my time just lurking around trying to pick up tips. I can usually get one or two tips to help and keep me motivated. Great content. I must ask, as a walking channel and a Disney walking channel at that, is there any inside tips that you would have more specific to my niche. Things such as how can I get more people to interact and comment or how can I keep more people to stay to the end of my videos. If you have a time, I know you are very busy. Keep up the great content and I appreciate you. Also, how can I get more subs?
Love the video and thanks for sharing! Question: the music when you show endscreen of the rap saying endscreen, is that AI? I only ask because I've been playing around with some tool (forgot the name) where you tell AI topic and genre and it spews a little jingle. It's fun and wondering if you can make a video on that?
I'm guilty of not using end screens. 😅
I'm not sure what the best approach for me would be though as all of the tracks on my channel that I feel are related to each other are all separated into playlists.
I'm wondering if using the playlist the video is in on the end screen is the best idea or if linking to a whole playlist might be a bit too much to ask of people for a channel my size.
Maybe I should try to "loop" the tracks in the playlist with end screens with each track pointing to the next track in the playlist instead.
Either way I need to start using them one way or another. 🙂
Thanks for more awesome advice Nate! 🤘😎
I found a really good way to keep retention while adding an endscreen for me, is to talk about the conclusion of your video while the endscreen video pops up on screen, so viewers stay to hear the message they feel is almost "necessary to hear", while also seeing another video that might interest them. This mainly only works though if the viewer came to have a question answered, and the conclusion of that answer is at the end.
What's the magic ending formula? Can't wait to take my outros to the next level!
Awesome advice dude…. Definitely something I haven’t been taking advantage of….
Great insights thanks. I checked and I’m getting less than 1% from endscreens, so I need to up my game!
This was a fantastic video, super informative👌
Thanks, Nate.
HOWDY Nate, just to let you know that I enjoy your energy, and I have a video that gets almost 7 % of the views from a specific end screen. Going to work on my strategy
Good stuff as always. 🎉🎉Boop
Great tips!
Underrated way to get views. Huge value
The ending is something that I want to really improve. I feel like I need to be more fluid with myself & towards my audience
Thanks for the video…is it too late to add endscreens on current videos? Also, how would this work with shorts?
