      @@Quinceps You can just say, it's idiosyncratic style of metal music based on thrash and highly influenced by technical and conceptual borrowings from jazz and classical music, if you need a description.
      (Yeah, Tommy T. Baron attended to jazz school and it influenced Coroner a lot).

    • @kaliyuga4312
      @kaliyuga4312 6 лет назад +59

      I think he is only underrated by idiots. Most intelligent people recognise him as one of the greatest electric guitarists of all time. 'Arc-Lite' is the song people like Malsteen and Batio dream of writing, but neither of them have the genius to reach that level.
      Most shredders play technique and never bother to learn how to play actual music. Malmsteen refers to his "music" as "neo-classical", but it isn't. It's brainless shred.
      Tommy T. Baron is a musical genius. His riffs and structures are like a surreal labyrinth.
      He is loved by underground fanatics, and they're the only people who matter.

    • @kaliyuga4312
      @kaliyuga4312 6 лет назад +36

      I'd also add that Ron is an absolute maniac. A lot of his bass parts very closely follow the guitars, and he plays that crazy stuff while doing vocals!
      Ron Royce has 2 independently functioning brains in his head, he is truly remarkable. Have you seen the official 1990 East Berlin show? His vocals sound EXACTLY like the album versions and his bass playing is note-for-note perfect.
      Even among metalheads, I don't think he was ever given enough credit for his superhuman talents. There are a lot of metal bands with vocalists who handle tricky guitar/bass/sometimes even drum parts, but Coroner's bass riffs are like a tornado that keeps changing shape and direction. Really amazing stuff!
      What did you think of the drummer here? It seems like he was missing someone of Marky's urgency and madness. Marky had a very distinctive way of playing, it added to the chaotic vibe

    • @alxbdn6695
      @alxbdn6695 4 года назад +10

      Its just partly the engineer - it all starts with the roots: If a band has knows how to play, knows how give their instrument a concrete, good positioned sound and, nearly mostly important, knows to arrange and to build up a common sound with all instruments respecting each other and giving each instrument that space that it requires - then, yes then you have that very rare enjoyment that we have when we listen to this band and this mx in special. As a sound engineer in such cases its like: Make your P.A. sound, set up the mics, bring the faders up - and your job is done. It is done because such a very rare band like Coroner already brings the functioning build sound architecture done by themselve. :)

    The solos had so much soul even though they were technical thrash

  • @geoffprice9583
    @geoffprice9583 3 года назад +1

    The interesting thing is that they actually play it all with one guitar. Which is true even in the studio work. That's the unusual thing. They could have layered in a bunch of guitars, but they play it as a true three piece. I mean even Black Sabbath layered in tons of guitars in the studio. A part of their sound though is only the one guitar. That's certainly a challenge in a genre typified by guitar harmonies and solos over heavy riffs. Thrash with one guitar is not easy to pull off. So yeah, Tommy has to really work for it.

    I remember reading a review for 'No More Colour' when it came out in the late 80's, they described the vocalist as sounding like he was 'gargling acid'. I knew at that moment that Coroner was for me \m/ Coroner and Voivod were big reasons I got into thrash metal back in the day.

    Coroner were phenomenal at 90's. Music production, sound, songs, performance of musical instruments, artwork, everything was far ahead. I was grown with them. My fantasy evolved and enriched by listening to their compositions. So sad that never managed to see them live but so glad they continue. And they continue at the same level. Respect.

    Loving every second of it. The 'new' drummer is a beast, they sound like there's six of them on stage. Oh yeah and the setlist is just monstrous. When you're listening to a trio live, everybody has to pull double their weight and they do it effortlessly, that's how good they are.

      Agreed. I remember seeing the Masked Jackal & that was it for me. I was blown away by how much sound & musicianship was coming from this trio. Been a 30 year fan since. Basically, they are the thrash equivalent to Rush. Fantastic band.

    Thank you so much for this upload, listening to Coroner is like taking a (sonic) warm bath, makes me all warm, tingly and comfortable. This takes me right back to my teen years when I first heard them, yes the 80's.Did we have the best Metal / thrash then the 1st time around? Of course we did! But we live in amazing age where we can enjoy these gigs on line, free and as often as we want. All you post 1990's listeners, trust me when I say you've never had it so good!

    thanks indeed for uploading this mighty legendary CORONER! sounds quite modern groovy to compare with ''live in Berlin' 90''(one of the best ever live thrash record) and shut up those who demand new album! CORONER has never been a commercial act like metallica, megadeth, testament, slayer..and there is no need to spoil old school thrash pedigree .. it is more than enough to hear some new albums of kreator, destruction, sodom, sepultura, exodus and other degraded bands
