Thanks for the tutorial, using a truncated pyramid as a key is a fantastic idea. As for merging, I've found that merging objects are not always necessary, and can also cause difficulties later on in the project. Simply grouping objects together is sometimes better.
I have been struggling with meshmixer trying to do the exact thing you just showed us. I followed it easily and without error. thank you so much for helping out. 3D builder is much more than I gave it credit for.
Is builder only capable of doing flat plane cuts? and has there been any issues with the key not fitting properly sense the whole is the exact same size?
i need to know how to cut something and save each piece into separate files. so far all i can do is split it and it saves both pieces into same file. i need seperate files so i can resize each piece to my printers max. can you help?
The only time I’ve run into this, it ended up being a selection error. The software can be a little weird about how selected objects are highlighted and sometimes you accidentally do or do not have an object selected. Make sure you only have the piece you want to subtract as the selected piece and that it is intersecting the piece you want to subtract from

What about tolerance? Won't the key and the hole be too perfect in size and not allow for tolerance?
slight sanding should make that not an issue
thank you! this is the easiest by far 👏
