I reckon David that you having added things to your electrical system and done some modifications may invalidate your warranty. I hope I am wrong. But to be honest when my vans warranty runs out I will not be having hab services done.
Certainly for the things which are modified for sure - for non modified bits I would not expect any impact. The T&Cs of insurance require a hab check to cover for gas safety (and general) safety check and also good practice to get an independent view. Important for insurance as hidden in depths of small print. All the best, David 👍
I had no issues with habitation service at all. Clearly, modification of anything will impact the warranty cover on that particular component (including any indirect consequences of course). Most components I’ve purchased came with some form of warranty which is helpful as it offsets if there’s an issue where something breaks down. For example the new battery came with a 10 year warranty which is far greater than the OEM installed one. Hope that makes sense, all the best, David 👍
Hi David, Price seemed reasonable for your hab Check, I will have ours done at home if possible for the first 2 years then just get the gas and electrics checked every year. Silicone on the window rubbers and keep an eye on windows and roof vents should see us OK. On the vehicle side I don't think I am going to pay the extra for the 3rd years warranty and once out of said warranty I will either take to a Fiat Independent or do it myself. Cheers K.

Good information there, piece of mind having it checked by someone else, Im sure you check everything day by day. Ive completely overlooked the Insurance possibly requirements, ill need to check that. 👍

We got our last two pvc done by a mobile açcredited tech. Was £200 which is pricey but they came to us. No issues and checked gas ect. On an older van maybe not for us. We had a sail boat for 20 yes and did most of the habitation checks ourselves. Gas and emmisions from appliances is so important for us.

I would also highly recommend having a habitation check. Madge will be 6 this year and we have had one done every year. We had 2 years ‘free’ with the dealer and then have had it done every year since with a mobile service. He has been slightly cheaper than yours but I imagine that it will go up this year. It is a good job as we have had terrible trouble with water ingress (45%in a number of places) and as we had proof of habitation checks it was all done under warranty. I’m not going to lie it was a lot of back and forth with the dealer and Elddis but it has been done. I imagine it cost a lot more that the money we paid for the hab checks. Take care Gill

Hi Steve, really great question, as far as the hab service goes, no as it was still checked to make sure operational and safe (so far as the checks go) including checking battery was being charged from vehicle and from the hookup charger (AC). So for a habitation service perspective no issues and more importantly no issues found which was good. From a warranty perspective however, if there was an issue with anything which had been modified, I wouldn’t expect that to be covered (as it’s not as it’s been delivered) or if indirectly it caused an issue (wrong voltage or whatever) again I would expect there to be a challenge on the warranty for that, things not impacted by the changes (for example a gas problem) I would expect to be covered as there has been no direct or indirect changes if that makes sense. Great video as always David, owe cv20 is one year in may so was looking soon to book it in as they get booked up so we get the right timings for the warranty, the dealer told us that the vehicle should be serviced once a year or 10,000 as it’s a campervan and if we took it to a fiat dealer to tell them it’s a campervan not a van and should be serviced once a year as it doesn’t do the mileage a van would do, thanks pete

On the van side, I had this debate with the Fiat Professional dealer who insisted it was 2 years as I raised that point - they can of course do a basic oil filter etc as frequently as you wish but they said 2 years. Don’t suppose you have anything formal on the campervan as would make sense to recheck as I would hate to have a warranty issue later? If not I will give Fiat a call. The Fiat Professional Dealer though were absolutely insistent it was 2 years as I raised the 1 year campervan side. All the best, David

I would check very carefully what level of cover you have for water ingress in later years. I have a roller team and by the time you reach year 10 they only paid 30% of the costs of repairs for water ingress. I am not saying yours will be the same but just check carefully.
