    Canada doing their best Blues impression in front of Bennington. No one has defended in front of that guy in the last 4 years.

    • @berryscott3590

      Certainly there was no one helping Binner on the first goal... To his credit, he made the initial save, but still no one there to take care of the rebound... Save the Finn who's free to score on a yawning cage...
      Powers made a brutal pinch at his own blueline, last game, on the lone Norway goal.... in what had been a 2-0 game... getting himself way out of position, and actually impeding his own D partner... resulting in a 3 on 1 which developed not on a breakout which is more forgiveable, but deep inside the Canadian zone...
      2 many D pairings with the same offensive instincts, both guys getting caught making offensive forays well inside the opponents zone, at the same time, time after time, game after game... Rather than having one more savvy, stay at home guy, able to make a reckless kid look better at the position than he actually is... Tyler Myers when he first entered the NHL comes to mind... I don't recall who his D partner was, except that he was an under-sung, European veteran, and NO WAY Myers wins NHL rookie of the year WITHOUT HIM... And then Buffalo (It was Sabres right?) refused to renew the guy's contract. How friggen stupid was that?

      I thought Finland was a little bit stronger yesterday nevermind the result. Finland is strong again and it comes down to the playoff rounds, these games dont matter much. Must be undersrood as well that Finland is out there with maybe their 3rd-5th best lineup that is possible in Finland. There's a 17 year old guy and many newcomers and European league players, offensively only Granlund is a solid NHL forward as Puljujärvi and Puustinen are still adjusting to their teams. Was it easy to win us still? I doubt.. looked like we could have won as well. Also i think 1 canadian goal should have been a no goal for goalie interference as Säteri's pad was pushed behind the goal line which lead to the goal. Anyway i think it was an entertaining game and no hard feelings other than to the guy who speared Puljujärvi's nuts, that was really dirty stuff, i wouldnt mind a ban for that guy

      @@TheRenaissanceGuys Good for him. No irony there. Ive followed Laine and Puljujärvi from the Liiga and U18/20 days and both of them really underachieved in the NHL.
      Does his mom still come to wash his laundry and cook him?
      I had (the opportunity) to learn English well enough to go to school, make friends, get along with adults, play minor league ball, etc at 10y when our family moved to the US for 1 1/2y's. I left home at 18, became a father at 20. These hockey elites just sound like they missed something growing up and it all caught up when the going got tough.

    • @TheRenaissanceGuys
      @TheRenaissanceGuys 21 день назад +1

      @@Kansika That's a big generalization, though. People, even elite hockey players, are different and come from different backgrounds and upbringings. Some are more responsible and some are more immature. I don't know what Laine is struggling with at the moment - something related to mental health. His father passed away in 2021 which couldn't have been easy. Last I heard he was living in Columbus with his fiancée, so I doubt his mom still cleans and cooks for him.

    • @Kansika
      @Kansika 21 день назад +1

      @@TheRenaissanceGuys Not a generalization. I was referring to these two guys specifically.
      I always loved watching Laine but he seems to have some problems. Partly it's the sort of Finnish autism that comes of as arrogance and cockyness. I remember being told by classmates in the US that I'm snobbish and rude when I actually just didn't understand all the interactions and intricacies.
      Puljujärvi is either severely dyslexic or not very smart, except on the ice.
      Both would have needed so much more support and guidance or maybe they should've stayed and played at home a bit longer.

      Two different situations - in today's game a Canadian player didn't interfere with the goalie. He didn't prevent him from making a stop. A Finish goalie put the puck to his own net by himself - it was his fault. On the other hand, a Czech player did interfere with the Finish goalie at the time of the stop. Technically, he was the reason a goaltender was unable to make a stop. It was a little strict for my taste, but defensible considering the rules. But I can't imagine this goal to be disallowed in the NHL.

    • @v_1d10_t
      @v_1d10_t 22 дня назад

      On the Palat goal there was a Czech player in the crease preventing the goalie from having free movement. It was a soft call in my opinion. It is different if you enter the crease and are playing the puck. On the Canadian goal it could have been called back but that would have also been a soft call.

      Yup that's a tough one. First, I don't think you can waive off an own-goal for goalie interference. Questionable. Personally, I think driving the goalie like that should be an automatic penalty regardless of the outcome; you can't do it to a skater but somehow it's ok to run the goalie? Second, in the long term, it actually does help international players to become accustomed to the standards of play (for better or worse) in the highest-paying markets. The harsh reality of a sports career where it seems so much is arbitrary and 'situational'.

Finland looked strong and this is a young "small town boys" team compared to what Finland could have on paper. Granlund is the only solid NHL forward right now on the team.
