Regarding summer camp for the rich and privileged, I worked as a counselor at one. It was in the Pennsylvania mountains outside New York City. The same campers where there for the entire summer, unlike church or boy scout camp where the campers stay only a week or two. The parents were super rich. The kids liked to brag about their parent's car, brands that I had never heard of before. That was 40 years ago, and I learned those brands since then but I have yet to actually see one of these cars in person. The kids were not too bad for being spoiled rotten, but when they said "I am going to sue you", you had to consider that as a real possibility. The fee of $20,000/year mentioned in the movie doesn't surprise me.

Man Daria! That's a name I haven't heard in YEARS. If I remember correctly Daria was a classmate of Beavis and Butt-Head they called Diarrhea. So it became a spin off series of Beavis and Butt-Head.

Actually two nearly 30 year old women, he was played by twins. Katelyn Hooper and Kristen Hopper.

I loved Reverend Jim. He was so spaced out, waaaaay too many drugs.

Carol Kane was the wife of Miracle Max in The Princess Bride. 🤣
"Pubert" was a name drawn from the development of the original TV series. Charles Addams, the cartoonist who created the characters, didn't give them names in the cartoons, so for the show he gave them suggestions. For the little boy, he suggested "Puggsley" or "Pubert", and the writers chose Puggsley.
The fact the filmmakers used this name from the development history shows how much care they took in digging into the original source material.
what i loved most about these movies, is the actors giving this absolute ridiculousness their all. no one played it winking at the camera. i so appreciated them for that!
5:55 "Pubert" is one syllable short of "puberty", and... well, Americans hate being reminded that bodies do things independently of our moral judgements about them.
I feel like Joan Cusack is so underrated. This is my favorite role of hers. So much fun!

The "It's an Addams!" line was inspired by one of the most famous of the original Charles Addams cartoons, in which a nurse informs the new father, "Congratulations! It''s a baby!"
The funny thing is, Debbie, being a psychotic black widow, would've fit in with the Addams family perfectly if she didn't try to kill them. Also, Fun Fact: "Pubert" was originally the name chosen for Pugsley for the original 1960's sitcom, but the network thought it was too gross and demanded it be changed. It was reused here for the baby's name.

These two movies capture the original 1960s tv series and the comic strip perfectly. Raul Julia’s early death was tragic but it also robbed the world of a part 3.
I'm Native American, and as you can tell by this movie, Thanksgiving is a bit of an odd holiday for us.
I always thought this had the potential to be one of those "perfect trilogies", and I think they were planning on a third film as well. Sadly, we lost Raul Julia before this could be realized and I think his last film appearance was the Street Fighter movie. Did it for his kids too. "You are Mr. Debbie!" is something that still pops randomly into my head and makes me smile years and years later.
The actress who plays the grandmother (Carol Kane) plays in a #Christmasmovie called SCROOGED starring Bill Murray. If you haven't already seen it, it's a comedy I think you'll enjoy.
She replaced the actress from the first Addams family movie, who had died.
The first person I've seen recognize Ally McBeal's Peter MacNicol.
And ever since this movie, we've all wanted a follow up where Christina Ricci and David Krumholtz are the leads.

I got to watch both of these when they came out on the theater. They were a lot of fun. I still watch them every year just for the good days. Such great films for yesteryear. I see someone recommended The Frighteners with Michael J. Fox and The Burbs. I highly suggest you give them a watch, hopefully on channel with us, but even in your very short spare time. They are good, imo. I've definitely watched The Frighteners more times than I could count. The Burbs too really but, yeah.
The best Addams Family movie and one of the best 90s films period
David Krumholtz (Wednesday's boyfriend Joel) starred in the 2005-2010 series "Numb3rs" in which he played a math genius who used his talents to help his brother, an FBI agent, solve crimes. Peter MacNicol (camp counselor Gary) was also in the cast, and one episode in season 4 guest-starred Christopher Lloyd (Fester).
I knew I recognized the little boy! And the annoying main girl grows up to play Harmony on Buffy the Vampire Slayer(TV) and Angel the series.
Krumholtz was also Mr. Universe in "Serenity," the movie sequel to "Firefly."
The funny thing is that if Debbie didn't separate Fester from the family she would have actually fit in great with the family.
This family is like best there is. Loving, supporting. And stylish.
Number one rule for new parents... always nap when the baby naps. Don't make excuses "oh I gotta clean this" "oh I gotta get some work done". No. Take a nap with them. Yout life will be infinity better

Well yeah...unless you have a reflux baby who only sleeps on you. I hated this advice, to be honest. I went in ready to sleep when I could except I never could. Single mom here and with a baby who only slept vertically against me until he was 5 months and a half. And even after that it was a hit or miss when it came to naps.

When we where younger I'm pretty sure summer camp was 6 to 8 weeks long. Considering this is a summer camp for rich spoiled kids it's likely parents who send kids to boarding schools and want the kids out of the way while they are cruising around the world.
At 9:18 a better response from Wednesday would have been "I know. We've met. You were trying to sell Girl Scout cookies in front of our lemonade stand last year."
(It's the same girl from the first movie.)

Hi Mary, At the hospital I worked at, we hired a bunch of English nurses. Their impression of what America was like was from watching mostly crime TV shows, I think. They fully expected to see constant gunfire in the streets, car chases, cars flipping over and knocked over fire hydrants. You get the picture. Anyway, I've lived in Southern California for decades and even I've never seen any of that. Needless to say, once that was out of the way, they really enjoyed themselves and had a good time here as there's so much to do and see.

I wasn't kidding about the car/crime crazyness. These English nurses told me that they were quite scared about visiting America but bravely decided to take the risk. They were so pleased to find the crazy stuff wasn't true (on a personal level) and thrilled to experience all that Southern California had to offer. They were totally blown away when they went to Las Vegas. Their tip: Arrive at night. They had NEVER seen all the lights like Las Vegas had. It blew their minds. Crazy in character dances are important parts of all incarnations on the Addams family Check out the original Wednesday, Lisa loring at age 6 teaching lurch how to dance. Loring was so young she could barely read the script yet she was great. In these movies you have the mamushka and the popular Wednesday dance in the tv show. The actress playing Wednesday here plays one of the teachers in the show.

I know it's not popular, but I hope you watch The Addams Family Reunion!!! It's campy and has a different cast but it really is a lot of fun!
The ONLY thing i really don't like is how they made this first love story of Wednesday just mimic Morticia and Gomez 1:1 ... i mean, sure, for starters. But how much funnier could it have been if they found their own thing, i mean the boy is jewish, let him speak some yiddish and have Wednesday be intrigued by that.
Other than that, a movie i really like a lot!
The thing about Michael Jackson was a PHENOMENALLY poorly aged joke referencing the child molestation allegations surrounding him at the time
The lady at the camp is Christine Baranski she played Leonard Hofstadter mum in Big Bang Theory!
She was also the birth mom in The Birdcage, the reporter in Chicago, and the evil stepmother in Into the Woods, among many others -- quite a fun resume! 😃

Something funny I didn't notice until watching your reaction to the first movie is that Amanda is the same actress playing the girl scout in the first movie, which adds a whole new layer of funny because they've already encountered each other before, lol
Having watched this for the first time only recently, it was fun spotting so many familiar/known actors. The camp counselors, Joel and both his parents (super funny btw that Joel called his mother Satan's mistress or something because she ended up playing a devilish temptress of a woman throughout several episodes of Frasier), Nathan Lane as the police officer, and of course Joan Cusack who did a frighteningly great job of being a psycho, haha.

-Working Girl (Joan Cusack is fabulous, not to mention the rest of the cast)
-Penelope (great humor and Christina Ricci is perfect in that, too)
-The Birdcage (where I first saw Christine Baranski...faithfully based on the original La Cage Aux Folles, which is also great)
-Rear Window (nothing to do with this movie but is simply a wonderful work of art that is one of Alfred Hitchcock's best films and I _know_ you will find it entertaining and thought-provoking)
A little known but excellent comedy by Steven Spielberg I would highly recommend is "1941" (1979 ) At some point, if you would like to review the best American western ever made, you may want to consider watching "THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES" (1976) starring Clint Eastwood.
I never understood why she was dumb enough to think the electric chairs would have hurt the Addams family, i mean its There electric chairs. Plus she already tried to electric fester once.
Stay-at-night camps are not frequent now and where they exist they tend to be one or two weeks, but in the past they used to be almost all summer vacations long in the US.
This movie is so fun! I love the scene at the end where all of the Addams GET Debbie. They would have welcomed her with open arms, she just went about it in the wrong way!

Great reaction Mary! The thing about the way Americans view Europeans is that you are generally more socially progressive and less inhibited. Because of the historical influences from religious zealots like the Pilgrims, Americans view themselves as way more uptight. Even nudity on classical art will send some Americans into a fit.

Especially since, when 1990s-era Americans thought of traveling through Europe, they were almost always thinking of Paris or of other romantic places where rich celebrities might visit on vacation, since that's generally the vibe that attracts the people who end up in gossip tabloids and entertainment news shows. The sort of places we can judge people for being too "liberal" (socially progressive) while privately being jealous and wanting to be rich enough to do the same.
Puritanism: Not Even Once.
For a Christmas suggestion I'd heartily recommend Tokyo Godfathers, one of the best (and very much non-standard) Christmas movies ever made. :)

I hear that in Europe, everyone eats bland food because the British took all the good food and spices when they conquered everything. The only ones that came out mostly unscathed were the Italians which is why their food has so much flavor. I could be wrong though, who knows how these rumors start.
That's odd, the stereotype I always hear is that British food is the worst.

@@jaysuscrass9119 Well I always heard that one of the big reasons the British were so mad at the Americans was because the Boston Tea Party incident wasn't just tea that was dumped, but most of the spices, recipes, and foods the British got from all the other parts of the world they tactfully acquired, it was meant to be a peace offering of sorts. Think of it like when Management buys the office pizza for a "pizza party" for good work instead of actually giving what the workers want. Plus, all the British soldiers their to secure the colony would have access obviously too. Then some of the ships holding it were destroyed, others just had the contents dumped into the sea. It was from this point that the British were forced to fall back on their bland foods and also the true spark of the Revolution. 📖📕

Summer camp. Harmony hut. Right out of The Parent Trap (both versions) (w/ an Addams family twist).
The longest summer camp schedule I heard of was a riding camp that lasted over a month.
In college I worked one summer at a camp similar to one in movie. Lots of rich kids who’s parents wanted them away for the summer. Iirc it went from mid-June through early August.
Not to worry - you'll sleep normal again. Bebe will sleep longer and longer, it gets easier and you'll find more time for yourself, and for Stardew.
I think the way it works out, is that once you get some semblance of a life back, here comes another baby.

I think you would really like the Wednesday Addams netflix series. Also there is the Addams family Halloween Special from 1977 which isn't the best but you meet more of the family
I believe that to have any affection at all for the '77 special somebody would need to be a fan of the original TV series. Personally, I like the series but not the special.
The animated movies weren't terrible. Definitely more kid-friendly but kooky.

Context. The edit wasn’t ready in time at all. Not because of the editor, but because me and my husband didn’t have time to check it earlier. I dropped the Patreon shout out in 5 seconds before I had to export and upload while the baby was crying and I had to get him. The video was ready not even two minutes before upload time. Every freaking time I make sure to get edits ready in time, to place the shoutout in a way it’s not disruptive and the one time I don’t check it and move quickly, I can expect a comment on how lazy the edit is.
I’m trying to juggle everything, and honestly… I’m just a regular person, and sometimes those comments just hurt. Because I know it’s not because anyone on our end is careless, it’s just because I’m a perfectionist and I failed at combining everything and put out the best I can.
I deleted it because you were mad at the editor, while the one you should’ve been mad at was me. And I received your criticism, so I thought it was only fair to delete it so it doesn’t seem like the editor was wrong.

if you want Christmas films to react to may i suggest BELL BOOK AND CANDLE , THE BISHOPS WIFE and THE APARTMENT they are old films but are comedies set around Christmas .BELL BOOK AND CANDLE is about a man who moves to live above a shop run by a witch and she casts a spell to make him fall in love with her with unforeseen results ,THE BISHOPS WIFE is about a bishop who asks god for help and is sent an angel but he does not get the help he thought he was going to receive and THE APARTMENT is about a man who's bosses at work take advantage of him using his apartment to have affairs till he falls for one of the girls think you would enjoy them .two of them are black and white but as you enjoyed ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE i imagine that you will not be put off by that .

please don't think of Thanksgiving as an american only holiday. Thanksgiving is a human holiday, make it your own and share the good times, fellowship of family and friends and of course good food & drink. Everyone can give thanks for all that they have and enjoy which ever day they choose to have it on.
The whole Pilgrim and indian historical first meal thing was a marketing ploy by a group of americans to create a holiday for marketing sales but we altered it over time into what it is now. So please all people of the world who read this, regardless of nation, religion or ideaology, feel complettely free to make and adapt Thanksgiving your own and share it with those you love.
