Had this on Telarc CD Big Band Hit Parade back in the day and never knew there was video anywhere. This is amazing. Tour de force. Surreal level of musicianship on that stage.
I remember seeing Vinnie as a kid .He was playing with a group out of Rochester called Wilmer Alexander and the Dukes .He was great back then and he inspired me to play the trumpet .
Hey , I know why Vinnie's name rang a bell. Back in 1975-1976 Vinnie came to our High School in Erie Pa ( Strong Vincent High School ) and played at a few of our Jazz Band concerts . Our band director James Washington Crumbley I guess Mr Crumbley knew Vinnie and invited him to jam with us . He was fantastic on the trumpet and put on a great show . Oh yes , some of my favorite high school memories, playing Tenor Sax in Jazz Band . SVHS grad 1976
Great Chuck! Take a look on you tube for the film clip of this tune done in 1938(released in'42)- TD's Orch.- Ziggy Elman, Chuck Peterson trpts Buddy Rich drums(on all these clips). Also Hawaiian War Chant can be seen there. Others w/same tunes are clips from Carson's Tonight Show with Doc & Mel Torme's show, etc. The AMAZING thing is the AUDIO quality from the 30's & 40's is BETTER than the more recent ones. Love your channel ! I know you put your heart into it & it's a lot of work. Please keep doing it!

Mighty fine playing! The good old days. Thanks for the post!
The brass section is beautifully fierce and tightly fitted. I love every bit of it.
Lovely solos.
Thanks for the post!

Eddie Daniels is a great clarinet player; he should know not to top a trumpet player's high note at the end of a feature.
