What an astoundingly beautiful piece of skillfully played music this is. I was a guitarist for decades before arthritis set in, I tried playing fretless bass, it's an extremely difficult instrument to 'master' but this guy makes it look almost effortless. The skillful playing is important, rather than focusing on the instrument being played, we hear and fully appreciate the music.
Beautiful. Fun fact: Elton John once said that this was one of the most amazing songs ever written, while the guys from Metallica were sitting in the front seat in the audience. Hetfield's mind was blown.

Musical talents are like others : doable. You just need to put efforts in it and you'll get there. Don't doubt of yourself, the first step is always the hardest ! Buy a good but cheap bass or any instrument, mix music theory with song learning and you'll have a quite good level rapidly. As always the hard thing is to put consistency in, otherwise it's fun and if you're really interested in learning an instrument, you'll get there in no time ! No excuses anymore, it's time to chase what you really want bro 🙌🤘
talent doesn't exist. you only see the results, not the literal 20 000 plus hours he put into learning how to play bass, that's how the idea of talent gets born. but anyone with a healthy body can learn an instruments and even disabilities don't make it impossible. you can do it, buy an instrument, practice with tutorials, learn theory, do exercises, write your own songs, play with others and just have fun.

Gary Numan's "I, Assassin" album really got me into fretless bass. It's so damn unique sounding, I am a keyboardist, but I often put the bass function on fretless and just play around 😎
Beautiful rendition of a beautiful piece of music. I’ve never tried playing it on bass, but I’ve played it on cello. One of my favourite Metallica tracks. How could it not be? It’s a love song from James to us, “The Fifth Member” and I’ve been a huge fan of them since ‘83.

I could easily listen to the whole song, with the solo, etc., regardless this is quite a long song originally. Because you played it with so much sensibility and perfection.
