    I injured my ac joint this past august with what appears to be a grade 2 separation. My x rays taken this month have shown some gnarly changes to the distal end of my right clavicle. Pain is okay right now. If it were to progress to the point of needing surgery, what complications could there be in a distal clavicle excision if the acromioclavucular ligament was ruptured? Does that ruptured ligament eventually form scar tissue to, in a sense, form a new ligament?

    Hi doc, I hope you can answer this question as it is not specific. The DCO can happen in a fall or only in cases of stress over time? Thanks and good luck with the channel!

    • @DrDavidGeier
      @DrDavidGeier  5 месяцев назад

      It's typically repetitive stress over time.

    As a surgeon do you feel that the arthroscopic surgery for distal clavicle resection is better than the old school open excision ???

    How often have you seen someone experience this issue with both shoulders? I started having pain in both of mine as well as prominent bumps on top of my shoulders. Tried rest and PT. If I do nothing the pain subsides if I don’t sleep on my sides. As soon as I restart activity the pain presents itself in both shoulders. One shoulder will even start to bruise on top.

    I was diagnosed with DCO. I went through all of the treatments listed with my doctor, and nothing helped. I eventually had surgery. It has been almost 2 years since the surgery and I still experience a lot of shoulder pain and Limits on range of motion. It is so defeating. I don’t know if I was misdiagnosed or what. I’m thinking I should go get a second opinion from another doctor? What would you suggest?

    I had a sharp pain when bench pressing .. it was incredibly painful and I had to stop weightlifting for a while .. and now I have a hard lump exactly where the AC joint is … is that normal ? There was evidence of distal clavical osteolysis and minor trauma to the AC joint .. is the lump normal ?

    Whats your Opinion About doing other sports while your shoulder has to rest? Im now 1 1/2 months into not doing Sports But i want to do something , But i really fear that it may interrupt my Healing process.. im not talking about bench pressing But more about leg Workouts, jogging, jump romp or kind of plyometrics, But i fear that this still influence my shoulder

    Well, I have pain in the areas that you are showing but can’t just one beds pressing overexertion cause this because I remember when I was younger I tried bench pressing more than I should and I hurt my shoulder and my back a little bit the pain was really intense at the time, but after a few days it went away, but then came back later in life but I didn’t put two into together until I thought of that incident when I was younger I don’t know if I had anything to do with my shoulder pain now, but I have had it for about 15 years straight now maybe longer and I don’t know what to do I was thinking it was coracoid process impingement I think it’s what it’s called or coracoid impingement where is pinch in that area because that’s where it hurts also but I’m not sure

      @@DrDavidGeier that’s great I will perhaps let my doctor know about my shoulder pain this follow up appointment. I’m just tired of shoulder pain every single day. It’s taking a toll on me over the years so thank you for letting me know that x-rays will show most likely if this is it or not. Thank you, Doctor and happy holidays ✨
