I know many people from India and Pakistan, and they are not so removed from our modern world that safety glasses and hearing protection are a stretch. It’s all about what the government requires unfortunately, as the owner/manager could provide some level of safety.
The vendor buying the hinges could require proper PPE as a condition of the contract. Corporations, regardless of what country they are from, simply don't care about employee safety unless they are forced to do so by the government or the purchasing corporation. We as end users also have a say. We can find who buys their products and demand that they enforce a safe work environment for workforces that make their products. And then do unannounced inspections for worker safety. I swear, my ears are ringing just from watching this video. I can't imagine the deafening noise in the factory.

The owners at the turn of the century in the USA said the same thing when they made it against the law to use child labor, when they put in a minimum wage, and they made the factory owners limit a work week to 40 hours. The caste system is India's biggest problem - the upper echelons are working in the space, pharmaceutical, & software industries, while the rest have to work in conditions like this. Like somebody noticed, this is the way all developed countries STARTED their industries some 100-200 years ago. That means low payed, hard working people, noisy and dangerous environment, no safety measures whatsoever AND very low efficiency. In the west (now in China) this could be achieved by a mechanised/automated production line with ONE operator with an (at least) tenfold output. (That doesn't mean that that in reality these production lines are always fully mechanised/automated, mostly they will be partly automated)

That means low payed, hard working people, noisy and dangerous environment, no safety measures whatsoever AND very low efficiency.
In the west (now in China) this could be achieved by a mechanised/automated production line with ONE operator with an (at least) tenfold output.
(That doesn't mean that that in reality these production lines are always fully mechanised/automated, mostly they will be partly automated)
