We have similar wasps here called paper wasps and they're not overly aggressive. Fun to watch them living their lives. On the other hand yellow jackets are nasty but interesting.
I despise wasps (i officially declared war on them in 2012), but i can appreciate the courage you have to let them not only live in your house, but thrive in it.
They're unconscious animals. Even if the original wasps find his presence familiar and not attack him, their billions of babies will and they will eventually kill him.
Marley they aren’t actually as hostile as you may think. Just very defensive and get scared and wanna attack those who get too close. They think close things are thieves trying to steal their eggs. So they are just trying to help the babies grow.
You know they recognize faces? Had a yellow jacket nest I never got around to dealing with and after a while I realized they weren't attacking me even if I stood right under their nest. One would watch me for a bit, flutter it's wings and go about its business. Sometime late in the fall when they were clearing out, one followed me in the house and was just kinda looking at me and around before going out the door. I'd like to think it was saying 'thanks'.
The flutter is usually a warning, basically stating, that distance is good, any closer and we will attack. But yes, wasps/hornets do have the ability to remember individuals, and given enough interaction time (ie feeding the hive), they will come to not see you as a threat.
Oh yes wasps will definitely get used to you after a while. I had a large paper nest by my front door last year and at first they all stood at attention when I would get close. But after a few days they just ignored me. They ended up building the nest to a very large size with about fifty wasps on it. I never got stung but of course I didn't touch them or mess with them. When winter came and they were all gone, I removed the nest and still have it because it's very big and impressive looking.
I was sitting on my front steps one day and had a small cut on my leg that had bled a couple of drops of bloood. A yellow jacket landed on my leg and drank the blood. I didn"'t scare it off as it didn't sting me. Vampire bee?...
