    Thanks so much, you literally just helped me save about $430, the OEM is costly. I got one from 1A Auto online for $24.

    • @summerdelsol
      @summerdelsol  3 года назад

      @@gilbertfrayre3436 hmm I’m not sure, it’s a cheap component (at least it was when I filmed this) so it can’t hurt to try, but you might want to research a little more if prices have gone up and you don’t want to pay for it without knowing it’ll be worth it. Good luck!

    So did you buy a replacement for all of the parts or just the pin? Or did you just take the pin out and clean it and replace it? I'm looking for replacements online but they're just the entire component

    • @summerdelsol
      @summerdelsol  4 года назад +2

      I replaced the whole thing since it was the sensor itself that was malfunctioning. The pin comes with the new sensor, and since it's fresh you might as well swap it too. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the video it made changing out the speed sensor very easy. . But now the speedometer is not reading correctly it’s reading slower than I’m actually going. Any suggestions? Thanks

    • @summerdelsol
      @summerdelsol  4 года назад

      I'm so glad you found it helpful, thanks for watching! Any chance you have after market wheels, or different size tires from OEM recommended? Mine does the same, as these size variances mess with what the electronics were set with originally. It's wild how much such a small change can impact a reading!

    • @rycher2007
      @rycher2007 4 года назад +1

      Summer delSol
      It actually has the factory rims and the correct size tires on it. That sensor was bad for a long time. I’m going to take the sensor back off, take the pin out and put a little lubrication down in there then reinstall it and see if that makes any difference. But you were right it actually shifts a little stiffer and seems not to be quite as sluggish. If I get it resolved I’ll let you know. Thanks

    • @summerdelsol
      @summerdelsol  4 года назад

      @@rycher2007 Hmm interesting. I think there are a few other factors that could be causing it as well, that's just typically the most common one. I think it was discussed a while back in the comments here if you want to check out some other possibilities before having to dive back in. Let us know what you end up finding out once it's fixed!

    I have a manual 95 del Sol (with about 250k on it) that makes a whistling noise when "in motion" - most noticable around 15-35 mph. It doesn't matter if the car is on or off, in gear or coasting in neutral, going straight or turning - this high pitch sound is present (interestingly as the car slows down, the pitch also slows down). The brakes, axles, tie rods, ball joints and the rest of the front end - all check out completely fine. In fact, the car drives/handles like new. 5 speed transmission fluid level clean & perfect. Could it be a bad speed sensor causing this noise? BTW, I've taken the car to several repair shops and NO mechanic can figure it out. Help!

    My '93 del Sol's speedometer works, but gets more inaccurate the faster I go (reading 30 at an actual 45 MPH). Do you think this repair will fix that?

    • @summerdelsol
      @summerdelsol  6 лет назад

      Hey Marcus,
      Usually that problem most commonly follows after changing the wheel/tire size. It can also present itself after a different gear ratio change as well. In fact, my car has always read inaccurately because the PO chose aftermarket wheel sizes and I never swapped them out/calibrated the speedometer. You will likely have more luck checking this out.

      Thanks for taking the time to reply! I appreciate it. I'm the sixth owner of my del Sol, and every previous owner has done their own customization, so there's an above average chance it's not rolling on original-size tires. Thanks for the link!

      No problem! I'd hate to have you burn the time/money on the wrong thing when it's likely just a simple swap.

      Honestly I haven't had time to fix it properly, so I just opened the instrument cluster and put new stickers over the numbers to indicate the actual speed. #lazyFTW

    • @summerdelsol
      @summerdelsol  4 года назад

      If your car is OBD2 I would check the engine code with a code reader, if it's OBD1 (I think pre 1996 if I remember correctly) you'll need to pin test it. I can't remember the specifics well enough, but hopefully that can help you find out what's going on. Good luck, and thanks for watching!

    Hello. I have the exact same problem on my Honda del sol. Sometimes the speedometer needle would get up to like 40mph when I was going 60+ but 90% of the time, it just remained on zero. I replaced the vss and now my check engine light is on and the problem persists. Any ideas?

    • @summerdelsol

      Hmmm this is the first of this I've heard, maybe a shorted fuse? Wish I knew for sure, but best of luck!

    • @summerdelsol
      @summerdelsol  4 года назад

      To follow up, if it's pre OBDII, theres a way to use a paper clip to see how many times the CEL light flashes to diagnose what that problem is, though it may be unrelated. I would pull a video on that for your model and start there. Unfortunately the cluster itself may also be the problem based on what I'm finding. Does your trip counter or RPM gauge work?

    Summer ... help me! I've got a 93 del Sol 5-speed. The odometer works but the speedometer is off. The faster I go, the more it lags. When I'm going 65 it will show 40mph. Very frustrating.
    I got a new speedometer off eBay and when I install it the odometer still works but now the speed lags even more. I'll be going 65 and it shows 20mph.
    I have read that the speedometer and the odometer both receive the same signal. So if one works and the other doesn't it's likely the component's internal circuitry. But that would mean I have two bad speedometers. Which could just be unfortunate... but if I buy a third one and it STILL doesn't work then I will feel quite foolish...
    I know the previous owner had new slave/master cylinders installed and the tires don't seem to be unusual size. Help :-/

      Hey Tara,
      Sorry to hear about the trouble! It sounds like you may be having the same problem as Marcus below. While I can't say for sure, ebay can supply lower quality parts, so there may be a good chance that you have two faulty speedometers. That said, it's most likely your wheel and tire size that's throwing it off, though it is possible you may have a different differential which can also alter your speed readings. The drop to 20 is pretty extreme though, my guess is that second sensor isn't up to par. I would check out rockauto next time if you decide to purchase another. Best of luck, and let me know how it goes!

      How do the wires look for your VSS connector when you trace them back? There may be damage along those, or possibly a blown fuse. I would check those out if you haven't had a chance already. I hope this helps!

    My del sol in idle goes from 1k to 2k rpm why?

    • @DeathSensei
      @DeathSensei 2 года назад

      Like constantly revving from 1k to 2k? If it’s doing that it could possibly be a misfire and I would get that checked ASAP or it could be a sign of a faulty AC compressor. My compressor is messed up so if I turn on the AC it puts strain on the engine and makes it jump up and down when idling
