I Love Toy Trains: An Analysis (Part 1)

- A video with actual effort! Being a fan of the I Love Toy Trains series for so long brought me to making a video about what exactly made the videos so great in the first place. To do this, I interviewed Tom McComas, head of TM Books and Video, asking him questions about the first three productions. This video takes an in depth look at the first ILTT video released in 1993, with info on what equipment was used, how it was edited together, and much more! Enjoy!

"The closest TM has ever come to making a YTP"
... Okay, now I can't unsee the first three ILTT's without thinking about that XD
But great analysis! It's nice to see more and more people come forward and give ILTT the attention it deserves. I had always wondered why they changed so many of the shots in the first three ILTT's but I think Tom had a rather interesting reason. At least we are able to preserve the original versions so that they won't be forgotten.
Rewatching the first recently that's totally the vibe I got. It's all over the place, the re-used sound effects, the sheer amount of the Old McDonald used, sped up video crazy audio. Truly a masterpiece.
1:03 Look out, kitty, here comes the train!
I'm a fan of I Love Toy Trains, too. I love watching these shows even though the old segments aren't used anymore.
I met Tom and Charyl McComas at the I Love Toy Trains store near Michigan City, Indiana the past summer. Very amazing knowledgeable people and would definitely meet again
Very well done! Getting to meet Tom at the studio two years ago was an awesome experience, definitely incredible seeing layouts and pieces filmed from my childhood sitting on the display shelves. Though I'll say, while the original three were top shelf...Can't beat part 4-7!
Hey! Sorry for the late reply. Glad you got to meet Tom! I haven't spoken to him in a long time. He stopped responding to my emails all of a sudden.
I love it! Are you thinking of making a part 2?
Great video!
This series is my childhood
I liked model trains since I was a kid
I found the material & humor in this to spark my interest a lot
Awesome video! All three parts of I Love Toy Trains (I watched both the 1997 (1999 reissue) & 2000 versions) has been my favorite growing up along with Part 6.
There was so much stuff about this part alone, I didn’t know about till I watched it.
Can’t wait to view the second part.
Fun little fact; The reason why there's so many out of place sounds in the scene mentioned at 8:00 is because it's re-edited from a scene about the Hesston Steam Museum in Toy Train Revue 7 from 1993, a lot of the sounds that you mentioned being interrupted play out fully in that tape. It's almost like an extension of the scene you talk about here.
While most of the Sound effects came from Lionel. Some came from Valentino (Major) Records
I loved TM Books & Video and I Love Toy Trains my whole life when I was 4 years old.
The footage between 1:39 and 1:50 is footage from Berkshire Productions Videos which were made by Grant Geist and Anthony Picone from 1984 until 1991. TM Used their footage in the show and the tapes that were made by Berkshire Productions are extremely hard to find due to a small amount of copies produced and being mail order only. the clips featured are from "Pacific Princess", "Pere Marquette 1225" , "Steamin in the Valley", "The Mighty J", "Knox and Kane Railroad", "Steamtown USA" and "The Majestic Mikado". im currently trying to find many of the videos that the company made and Digitize them so they arent lost again. seeing clips from those videos makes me still hopeful that i will be able to find them all. ~Joseph
1:05 one of my personal favorite moments on the show.
If the intro of the show doesn't make you excited, hyped, or pumped up, you aren't a true railfan.
You definetly aren't one if you don't pretend to play the piano at the end.
They talked about this in their looks back dvd
6:36 After a circus song with more *F ú Ñ ń Ë ę* animals…
I’ve watched the series not too long ago. It was like an American version of Thomas the Tank Engine, except the child was a narrator instead of signing the tunes, and the adult was signing the tunes instead of narrating, and it was a bit more educational.
not exactly
It'd be rad to see a ILTT but with trains from other countries.
This is a great review! Thank you! Say. Can you do one on Part 2?
Excellent work on your analysis video!
So ummm....is Part 2 or Part 3 coming?
This is an INCREDIBLY satisfying video. I'm 30 years old, and still think fondly on the old VHS my parents used to play for me with this on it when I was a tiny child. Love learning more about the details behind it's creation in a really fun way!
4:20, 9:57, 10:29, 10:55, 13:09 were the best parts of this masterpiece.
Oh no 10 tails toys please can you love 2020 800 bath quickness and also have a whales put one wire Naser while Train while trains While Train why Lionel trains 10 mm how to be a husband and a toy Cherry Hill Mall in 2021 yards and more towards me up at
As a kid, I had 3 through the Final show. Then Lionel Nation as well when it came out.
I knew i wasnt the only one who loved tm's guitar solos particularly the 1st one you mentioned! I wish that they had a separate version so that we can listen to it
Here's a version with clean audio I uploaded:

@@BlueCometEntertainment347 Sweet! Thanks!
@@wolfboy20 You’re welcome
Ok, I kinda like the review for the first I Love Toy Trains video.
Awesome man. I’ve been a fan of I love toy trains ever since I saw I love toy trains part two way back in 2004. Ever since I’ve been watching all I love toy train DVD’s including some of the new ones.
that's interesting that you got a response from tom mccomas about the sounds he used for the original in 93. I sent him a message on his facebook page asking the same thing 6 years ago and never got response. I sure would love to know exactly how or what steam sound records he used and where to get them
Most of the sounds came from a company called Major Records. The audio was recorded by Thomas J. Valentino. There was also a cassette and CD release (now out of print) called "Toy Trains: The Soundtrack". That's where all the American Flyer talking station sounds came from.
hi sir, can you find i love toy trains parts 1, 2 & 3 vhs 1997.
it had come ride along with me on the tape.
Old MacDonald had a train, E-I-E-I-O
And on that train, he:
Had some barrels
Had some chickens
Had some coal
Had some oil
Had some milk
Had some logs
That’s the only thing I don’t like about that video due to it being repeated
I used to like this show
Where’d you get the instrumentals at 3:22 and 4:31? Also this is a fantastic video!
I’m the biggest I Love Toy Trains fan
When part 2?
Are you going to doan analysis on I Love Toy Trains #2?
Most likely! Not right now though. I have an animation project to finish
I've been watching the series these days, and I've been thinking about your Analysis
i have every part of that movie? i dont know what to call it
There are no dislikes!!!
I loved those videos while growing up
