Thank you for watching the Board Game Nation our Axis and Allies: North Africa - FULL Unboxing, Mini Close Ups, & Review from Renegade Game Studios! Visit our friends at: bit.ly/Combat_Miniatures Are you looking forward in the North Africa game?
I love the potential of games focused on different theaters and campaigns. This game looks very unique in gameplay style to other Axis and Allies. Thanks for showing it to us, and I am looking forward to seeing what new interesting ideas that Renegade integrates into their next game!
Stalingrad would be a great urban campaign for Axis and Allies. Operation Market Garden would be a great WHAT-IF game. Eastern Front sounds ok, but all it is is just half of the War in Europe. I would actually create a Barbarossa campaign to see if the Germans could take Moscow. Future battles I would like to see are: Battle of Britian, Hunt for Bismarck (Battle of the Atlantic), Dunkirk, Coral Sea and Midway combo, Leyte Gulf and Invasion of Japan among others.
I would have really enjoyed the eastern front. The North African theatre obviously has the most national variation of the 4 options presented; I would however, have really enjoyed an expansion of the eastern front. I believe that the innovations that they have brought forward with the North Africa game would have been amazing with huge Soviet and German tank armies duking it out across such a massive front. I will be purchasing A&A North Africa and I sincerely hope it does well. I love the ambition that they are showing with these new mechanics and I desire more of them. When you offer me a chance at the eastern from though…😖
I am biased in that regard as well due to mostly playing against only 1 other person. EF would be about as good as it gets for 1v1 purposes but NA is superior for the traditionally targeted group gaming sessions. I hope they end up making both.
I voted for Stalingrad. Having an option for the broader Eastern Front and the most decisive battle of the Eastern Front made for some competition between them
That's a cool idea. I had someone suggest a A&A "decathlon" of sorts. If you attack an area that has smaller "local" version, you have to decide the battle using the other game. Attack France as the Allies? You have to play D-Day. Attack the Solomons? You have to play Guadalcanal. Sounds fun. Eternal, but fun. Thanks for watching!
I enjoyed playing this game. I really liked the Scout cars and how they can attack convoys behind enemy lines! Very immersive and I really loved the fact that if you have the tiger from A&A 1941 game you can use it as a special unit.
Interesting! I am a European 50+ gamer so for me the A&A Guadacanal is more unique and a different theatre from "the usual suspects". I like the supply thing, small variations between nation units etc etc. The "build your own scenario" idea really gives hope :) Online they will be used for sure.
An aquatic themed strategy game sounds fun! In the real world, naval combat isn't all that exciting unless you spice it up with a fun setting, like Pirates or Mythology. So yeah, give me Poseidon's Mermaids battling Cthulu's Mindflayers battling the Kraken and you have my interest!
My friends bought this and we’ve been waiting to play it. We had a long running 1940 game into a game for the anniversary edition. Which led into playing 1940 again
Stalingrad or Eastern Front would be the most interesting to me, mostly because my wife is usually my only gaming companion, so one faction vs. one faction games (Like A&A Guadalcanal) that are easier for two players are usually the most interesting to me.
Thanks for a great video! I know it's not going to be one of the choices, but since I love 1914, I wish they'd make another WW1 game. Either the Somme or just do a 1918 Western Front game. However, I won't hold my breath. I will have to get this North Africa game for sure.
You’re A & A videos are hands down the best on You Tube. Thank you! I vote for Eastern Front although I know in many ways it’s nothing new. I’ll always preorder two copies of every A&A Renegade games no matter what it is. Can you please be careful with the music in your videos? It was almost impossibly distracting when the music was playing. I must have picked some sort of new learning disorder in my old age.
I appreciate that. Thank you. I try to keep the music low, but it kind of needs to be there for the down shots to cover the sections where I'm not talking. I'll keep your comments in mind in the future. Thanks for watching!
italian navy was EXTREMELY important. convoys to supply the Axis in Africa were THE thing which decided most campaigns. El Alamein was won by the Allies because the tanker and separate convoy supposed to resupply the Axis was sunk en route. Does the game simulate Axis convoys and Allied sub and air action against them at all?
Indeed it does! I’d say a good 40-50% of the game is exactly that, convoys, air interdiction, Italian navy and German subs vs the UK fleet… I think you will love it!
Just ordered and received Renegade's new IPC Chips and A&A Hit Dice! Maybe you want to do a quick review on them and tell us what you think. I love them.
I might do that actually. I need to reach out to them and see if they will send me a set. I should have grabbed them at Gen Con this year, but with a million other things going on... Thanks for watching!
Market Garden would be my choice. Air units are my favorites in the game and I even have my own rule where bombers can drop parachutist infantry instead of bombs. Would be an interesting game if you could have men dropped anywhere on the board.
Paratroopers are a favorite optional rule in many home games. I typically see it like this: Each bomber can drop one land unit into and enemy occupied territory that is also being attacked by other land units. It is subject to AA fire. The land unit dropped cannot retreat. The bomber cannot do anything else this turn and must land as normal during non-combat, if able. Is that how you've played it?
@@BoardGameNation More or less but attacking land units wasn't a requirement for me and only infantry can be dropped, not tanks or artillery. Useful as a means of capturing undefended territories to harrass your opponent but not so great for full fledged assaults. Didn't see much point in using drops alongside a land invasion because you might as well just use a bomber as a bomber in that case.
True, but what we found is that a single guy dropped behind enemy lines wouldn't change the course of the game, but it would definitely slow it down. Sending guys to chase down the infantry that is walking through Africa, takes time. It could be useful if someone leave a complex undefended, but that is pretty rare. Either way, paratroopers can be a fun add on to the game. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this preview, as I was curious about this game. Though I've been a big fan of A&A over the years, this variation feels like a dumbed down version of GMT's North Africa '41 (one of the best wargames of 2023 at BGG). The 3D mini pieces are way cuter than traditional 2D counters, but those out-of-scale jeeps you pointed out at the end are a big turn off!!... (On a side note, that community "survey" was a tad strange, with two options for Russia probably split the vote and helped N Africa...)
I agree the UK scout cars are odd, but I wouldn't let that put you getting the game. I can promise that North Africa is not a dumb down version of any A&A game. It has a rich and detailed ruleset that is dripping with history. Either way, thanks for watching!
You ain't kidding. We are working on the HTP video, but as you can imagine... it's a lot. But, we are getting there. Probably two weeks out. I think I am going to throw a party when it is finally finished!! :) Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the Video. I thought that I wouldnt buy the North Africa Game because i save Money for the global Game, but nie it is an Option to consuder for me now
I think about board games in terms of dollars per hour of entertainment. If I buy a game for $100 (all-in), and the game lasts 5 or 6 hours and I play it 3 or 4 times, that is a huge value. 20+ hours of entertainment for $100 is cheap! I compare it to taking the kids to a two hour movie. I am out $100 and they are bored two hours later. One of the things I like most about tabletop board gaming is that this one of the lowest cost entertainment options out there. Sure, games are more expensive than they used to be (what isn't?), but they are also a lot better than they used to be. Just my two cents. :)
Yup! Our next major video will be the How-to-play for North Africa. After that, we will produce the final match of the North Africa tournament. Then, the Diplomacy final. Then, into the World Championships! Lots of work ahead, but it should be fun! Thanks for coming along!
I can't wait to get my copy and play... against myself. :( But i'll be meeting up with my gaming buddy in January and we are VERY MUCH looking forward to playing it then.

HI! In your opinion, would the game have been better implemented with games of 2 or maximum 3 players? where one player controls the Afrika Korps (mix of Italian and German troops to remain faithful to the historical event) while the other two players controlled the UK and USA. Or 1 on 1 or Afrikakorps against Allies. I like the addition of the French troops, but do they have a Jolly role in the scenario by any chance? (for both factions based on who owns the territories of Algiers and Morocco and Tunis). Please clarify, thank you
Hello! I like games that come with lots of options. So, if a game can accommodate 2 or 4 or 6 players, all the better. As for the French, in this game, they start as Vichy French, but when Operation Torch begins (round 7) the Allies have a very good chance of turning them into Free French. When that happens, they come under the direct control of the US. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Those Allied scout cars look ridiculously very micro sized or wrong scale? Maybe Renegade could make some optional replacement pieces to order in the future? They really should.
Maybe. Not sure what, if anything, they plan to do. This might be a thing that is solved by a 3rd party vendor like CombatMiniatures.org. 😉 Thanks for watching!
Yes! It’s bound to get lost. Especially if dropped in carpet. The game looks great but if they asked enough people about the scout car size, the responses would be, “that’s no good”.
Personally, I would love to see an Axis & Allies powered game based on the Russo-Finnish war that took place just prior to the outbreak of WWII in Europe in 1939.
