Thank you for watching the Board Game Nation - Axis & Allies - Mass Unboxing of Renegade Game Studios Reprints! We hope you enjoyed and found it informative. What did we miss? Are you excited about having these games in your local stores again? EDIT: When we filmed this video, the reprint of the Anniversary Edition had not been announced yet. You can find our unboxing and review of that gem here: ruclips.net/video/41-R1f--oMs/видео.html
So from what I gathered you can buy 1940 Europe and Pacific and combine them? Do the rules to do that come in both boxes or is it a separate ruleset? We played a lot of A&A back in the day and you have peaked my interest heh.
Glad to hear it! That's right. 1940 Europe and Pacific were designed to be played separately or as one massive game called "Global." The rules for that variant are printed in both rulebooks. Let me know if you have any more questions! Have fun! Thanks for watching!
Never bought into this series, but now, after seeing this video and your world championship video, I'm in. Thanks guys. Recently retired, I have the time to play.
You guys totally reignited my passion for Axis and Allies, been addicted to AA Online ever since your world championship after action reports. And as a gaming channel, your content is well paced, informative and charming.
It looks like we're truly in the golden age of Axis & Allies but it appears that I've outgrown my phase of playing boardgames seriously. I'm still really into the WW2 history. If only these games were available when I was a teenager, I would actually have the time to play them. Thanks for this amazing channel. It's so nostalgic yet new for me to see these new versions of the game that I played so much back in the day. I still think that all Axis and Allies games could be improved with using a 10 sided die but it looks like the game designers never considered changing the type of dice. A six sided die is limited in terms of probability. In every other aspect like new units, better rules, territories, and more balanced gameplay, they killed it, but the dice never changed.
Regarding the older maps you mention, it was indeed observed in some cases that even-digit numbers were not circled, while double-digit numbers were circled. This was seen in all the second editions of 1942 and 1940. Then this was changed and there are older maps with all the numbers inside a circle, as in the current reprints.
Watching this, I still have the first edition of 1940 Europe and Pacific. Very fun to play with friends. Also the 1914 I got the original and is super fun to re-enact trench warfare.
Really extensive info you prepared here. :-) Now if Renegade would only reprint A&A Anniversary again! For me, it's the best version of the game in a single box.
I’ve been playing Axis & Allie’s for 35 years. I have over 40 official Axis & Allie’s games and I haven’t been this excited for an Axis & Allie’s publisher ever. You can tell that Renegade games really cares about this franchise. I’m now going to purchase all these updated versions although I’ll might never play them. I know you weren’t trying to do a commercial for them but I’m ordering 3 more games from them today! Updated rule books mean a lot. I wish they just sold those separately but I doubt there’s a market for it.
Wow! That is really great to hear! It sounds like an amazing collection! I hope that you visit your local game store to buy the new games, but if you are planning to buy directly from Renegade, please use our link to get there. It isn't a lot, but the kickback helps make more videos like this possible. RenegadeGameStudios.com/?rfsn=7712737.76eff9 Btw, you can download pdf versions of the all the rulebooks from the Renegade website. It isn't the same, of course, but you could print them out for use table side. Thanks for watching!
@@keithpalmer4547 - We made this video before the reprint of the Anniversary Edition was announced. :) You can find our unboxing and review of that gem here: ruclips.net/video/41-R1f--oMs/видео.html Thanks for watching!
I never wrote in the notes section, but what I did do was print out major speeches from the era from each nation for each player to read as fun inspiration. Everyone gets a kick out of Patton' speech.
Notes are great for adding rules that make it more complex and challenging including creating new units that do not exist. Also like adding Italy and France as it makes the game a bit more fun.
Thank you for making this video! I've watched your other ones on A&A too. I've been playing A&A for 37 years and I do have all the Hasbro versions. An item I was hoping Renegade would do on the game board was to print the Industrial Complexes along with the Naval & Air bases onto the board that are a part of the 'initial set up'. But, from listening to your unboxing it sounds like it didn't happen; maybe in the future.
Thanks for watching! They might print them on the board, but I think they are just as likely to hold off. Something a big chunk of the community loves to do is build different scenarios. This gets harder with more set info preprinted on the board. Just a thought. Thanks again for watching! Lots more on the way!
Really appreciate your POV on making sure games are readable for players. I am not color blind, but my eyes are bad. A lot of games digital and physical are hard to read and become a barrier or frustration.
Great overview gents! I'm so glad this franchise is in good hands and L. Harris still involved. My local hobby shop used to carry the line and I always wondered why it wasn't more readily available. In my youth, the Gamemaster series always stood out in the toy store and was a draw, for sure. Can't wait to see N. Africa, that should be an armor battle to the max!
I have a weird version of axis and allies. It comes in a blue box and just says axis and allies 1942, control the fate of the world. The map design is a lot different than all these
We've got the RAT Patrol to play now with N. Africa. So cool! In the tone and tenor of Matt Smith, "Thankyou so much for getting our home on the correct Island!" Aloha Nui Loa from me and my adorable spouse.
The one main version Renegade seems to have missed (so far) is the Axis & Allies: Spring 1941 50th Anniversary Edition which I believe was when Italy was first introduced into the game (happy to be corrected). Thanks for the breakdown. The game is still quicker to play than World in Flames FE!
@@BoardGameNation Thanks for the quick reply. I was fortunate enough to buy the A&A 50th Ed when it first came to Australia (and boy did it disappear fast). Always been my favourite edition. A long game but as I said no where near as long a WiF FE (which could take a month, or more, with seven players and all the add ons). Great to discover your channel and looking forward to watching you World Final bout. Oh and thank you for the British/American Strategy to take down Japan so quickly. I've been a Germany first player (as UK/USA) for so long I never really put much thought into a Japan first strat. So effective. Again thank you.
I love this game. Wish I could play it more…friends and family aren’t always available. Inspires me to get back to painting my custom pieces! Working on the Japanese navy…Kaga, Akagi, Hiryu and Soryu with historically accurate deck markings are all completed. White coloured naval zeros for the carrier borne fighters and green for the land based. Green Betty’s. Can’t wait to start the US Navy!
Generals of Waterloo was a huge roll out map the size of a banquet table made for all the pieces of the (then) new Hasbro Axis and Allies expansion pieces. The rules included new levels of detail including moving board pieces by rail, targeting railroad infrastructure, & (believe it or not) rolling for the severity of winter weather each year effecting movement ability of pieces. You can Google it & it will give the rules in detail, but the map is a sight. I never was able to corral my gaming buddies to play what's basically A&A on steroids LoL
@Shannon Merritt and those who collect variants of the different A&A-games. I know you're out there: When Milton Bradley went from printing the game in Hong Kong to somewhere in China, the first print that got shipped out had some games with mixed colours of the units. The Germans that normally had their beautiful field grey colours (yes, still miss having those colours on the Germans) got the colours of the USA and the USA-units was field grey. THAT was confusing when you one day played your Hong Kong-copy and the next week went over to a friend that had the China-version.
One (possibly critical) difference that I just noticed is that the plastic for the new Renegade editions is slightly softer than previous editions. I only noticed this as I'm going to paint (or get painted) the pieces in my 1942 2nd edition set. This shouldn't affect or concern most players, but I flexed the soldier figures a bit to see how they might resist paint flaking off, and the soldiers in the Renegade set were noticeably more flexible than the older Hasbro version. Again, this shouldn't affect most people as the pieces aren't going to fall apart or anything, but if you're a gamer who is thinking about painting your figures, I would recommend using the pieces from the older set as I am, just to be on the safe side. Other than that minor inconvenience to a small group of gamers, I really appreciate the love that Renegade is putting into their prints, good job guys.
That's interesting. Thanks for sharing. I'm curious if that might have anything to do with the age of the plastic. Do you think it might harden over time?
@@BoardGameNation Good question. I can't say for certain, but my "fancy" studio-art degree, and life experience, has shown me that, for the most part, plastic gets more brittle over time, does it get "harder", THEN more brittle? I don't know, but now that you make me think about it, I suppose that could, and probably does, happen. I mean, just from everyday experience, we've probably all dealt with supple new plastic in a new car, and old, brittle stuff, in an old beater, but something's telling me that they used a different plastic on the Renegade sets, my "old" set isn't THAT old, and has sat in a dark closet this whole time, also, the tiny numbers on the bottom of the soldiers are different for each set if that's worth anything. I mean, it's not a huge difference, like 10-20% more flexible at the ankles if I tried to quantify it, yeah, I suppose that could come with time as a set ages, I'd be curious what you might notice in your sets.
This video was about the A&A reprints that came out this year from Renegade Game Studios. Sadly, they haven't reprinted AA50... yet. However, Shannon did do a comparison video that did cover every version of the game, including AA50 and all the older versions. Here is that link: ruclips.net/video/7kVessTrJnk/видео.html Thanks for watching!
Thanks for doing this! I'm partway through and just wanted to note before I forget that the color variation you are seeing in the 1942 map vs. the Hasbro 2012 printing could just be standard variation within a print run. I've been on many press checks in my career as a graphic designer, and have seen some big shifts from what I've approved on press to what has been delivered to the customer. In isolation, no one would really notice, but side-by-side it's very apparent. Magenta is heavier in the Hasbro one and black looks a little light, FWIW. :)
BTW, a "NOTES" page is just a convenient design choice to get to an even increment of 4 pages, which is required for commercial printing. They could have "stretched" the rules layout to fill the space, but opted for notes instead.
@@chicosbailbonds9764 - We figured it was something along those lines, but it was a good time poking fun at the weirdness and inconsistency of the Notes page. 🙃😉 Thanks for watching!
I only bought 1914 from Renegade as I already bought all the other contemporary versions from AH and figured my money would be better spent going towards more board games! However it is good to see what has been upgraded. You should see the sizes of HBG's global war maps if you think 7 feet is big, they have 8 foot maps!
I have played Axis and Allies since the original Milton Bradley version came out. I own Three of the five of those big box games. The original A&A is still my favorite. I might be interested in playing the World War I version and the North African campaign when it comes out, but being in Birmingham Alabama, there are not a lot of wargamer here compared to the other places I’ve been stations in the army. The Midwest certainly has the most, there are tons on the West Coast and in Alaska as well.
Thanks for watching! We are working on a system that will help people connect with other players. You might consider joining the Board Game Nation Find-a-Player project! Bit.ly/Find-a-Player
He he... watching this a couple months later, seeing Shannon's t-shirt, and knowing that GI Joe Battle of the Arctic Circle now is available for pre-order. :D
WW2 and WW1. They should make a Civil War version or Perhaps the Napoleonic Wars. Axis and Allies game rules, especially the combat system would be perfect for 1800's warfare. P.S Don;t forget to pick up 'Axis and Allies Zombies' !
I have one little tiny disappointment: Yes, I am one of those filthy, disgusting heathens who loves, and still plays, Axis & Allies Revised (or as I still call it - "The Blue Box"). I'm honestly bummed no one has reprinted that game and map. The rules were great (only change is adding the Breakthrough tokens from Anniversary to make Advancements easier) and the stark contrast of colors on the map was such a help for many sight issues, despite nay-sayers calling it ugly. Here's hoping one day the absolute best version of A&A is resurrected and given the respect it deserves!
I really like that version! And, I really like that map style. I have friends and family who are red/green color blind and they struggle with most other A&A maps. I don't know if Renegade will ever reprint it, but it is one of my favorites, too! Thanks for watching!
Great video, I have been playing A&A since the game master version and love it. I only recently learned of Renege Games taking over. Sounds like good news to me. The only Version I missed is the Guadalcanal version so I will get that reprint. I will look forward to the North Africa one as well. As to the comment of having every version, have you ever heard of Xeno games? They made several expansions which are more like prototypes for 1940. The minis they put out weren't that good, but they were useable. I believe that they were the first to add the French, to include Vichy, and cruiser units as well as BBs taking 2 hits. Going back a few years but I think they may have been out of Jacksonville Florida.
Hey guys. I really enjoyed watching this & round one of the tournament. You guys are bringing me back down memory lane. I was eyeing your MB Conquest of Empires the whole video, LoL. But I was curious if you have ever seen the Generals of Waterloo map? I haven't unrolled mine in decades (I haven't played these games since Hasbro took over either) but if not, I'll have to hunt down the poster tube & share. Something I own, but never found the insane amount of time to play.
Great unboxing! I purchased the huge Global 1940 mat several weeks ago, however it remains on pre-order and Renegade was unable to provide data on when it might ship. Just FYI for those who may want to buy it.
Wow, i used to play this as a teen back in the day. Is this the same team that made "Fortress America"? Had to be my single most favorite game ever. Would love to play again.
@@BoardGameNation I had no idea Axis and Allies was still a thing 30 years later. If I can get a couple of friends to commit, then heck yeah I'm going to try them.
@@FunksIncKeys - Awesome! I suggest trying the tournament rules. I think knowing the specific length a game goes a long way towards helping bring new players over to give it a try. The rules for that are in the description as is a link you can use to order a copy of the new games. Have fun!
BOUGHT OFF EBAY - Two A&A Variants - Operation Sea Lion (Germans invade England) and A Bridge Too Far ( Arnhem Paras) - played the Bridge Too Far game with 30 Corp getting to Arnhem A bTurn Too Late with the Brit Paras getting wiped-out a turn before the Brit tanks got there ! The Operation Sea Lion is very much like the D-DAY version in that the invading Germans have to capture 3 Cities (Plymouth, Dover, and London ) to win (German Paras and Air-Landing troops, Brit Coastal Blockhouses, German Air ) !!
Triple A is also a nice open source version of Axis and Allies type games. You can make and download custom maps and it's free to download and play, has online mode too.
Would you guys mind if I chime in once again? One thing I can't seem to get a solid answer on, is, are you limited by the number of plastic pieces that come with the game(s)? I don't mean the number of colored chips, but if, say, Russia only comes with two bomber pieces would they be allowed to make three bomber "formations" to go off into three different directions or are they limited by the two bomber pieces that came with the game? I've read manuals and searched the net, and, if I find anything at all, I'm finding conflicting information. If my memory serves me right now, I believe the new Renegade rules (that are supposed to include errata, and what-not, from over the years) say that you are NOT limited at all and that you can just use pieces of paper or whatever to make new stacks, but then I downloaded said errata that say you ARE limited by the number of pieces that come with the game. If you guys have a second, could you possibly clear this up? I always figured the different amount of pieces was meant to simulate what each county was capable of producing during the war, but now that I'm reading (in some places) that a country's production isn't limited by the amount of pieces that come with the game, that maybe the different amount of pieces for each country are just a factor of how most A&A games play out and countries that hardly use a certain type of weapon only get a couple of those in order to save money on printing the game. When I CAN get my friends together to play, I've always limited countries by the number of pieces (again, not chips) that each country comes with, as that made sense to me, but maybe many years of play-testing has determined that no limitations are better. What do you think? Also, is limiting/non-limiting possibly unique to each version of Axis and Allies as well?
I seem to remember something about this in the original game, but in all the modern games you are not limited by the number of actual minis that come with the game. If you run out, use some other kind of marker. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation Thanks, maybe I AM going all the way back to the original game, lol. I swear I read that in some errata somewhere, but who knows where that came from, maybe some house rules...
Thanks! The giant play mats are only available on the Renegade website (link in the description), but they are in back order the last time I looked. Thanks for watching!
I still like the older version, I am trying to be excited with the new but I just don't know if I like all the changes, Dds? and new territories vs the old Hasbro version 1942. Played in the 80s and 90s, loved the game. Is there any way to still play that game on line? I live in the middle of no where now.
Maybe. I am still seeing new strategies for 1940 and for 1942.2. There is the new GI Joe game and the North Africa campaign coming out next year. Those should be fun. However, there are some really fun house rule sets out there (becoming games of their own) like Young Grasshopper and BBR. So, maybe it will be a mix of both. I'll be excited to see what happens! Thanks for watching!
The lone AAA gun rule in 1942 is interesting. I believe Beamdog interpreted as the lone AAA gun not being able to shoot at planes and is instantly destroyed when they made the online version.
WOW! Holy smokes! You are correct! I have 1000+ hours in that game and I did not know this! I set up the scenario in the game to double check and sure enough - no combat was conducted! The AA gun was removed at the end of the Combat Move phase. The AA gun did NOT fire as it should have. Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I will reach out to Beamdog to see if they are interested in fixing it. Thanks again!
Hello quick question, is there a why is Axis & Allies 1940 Europe 2nd edition on Pre-Order on Renegades website and already available on Amazon? Is there a difference between the two?
I don't think the 1940 games are pre-orders from Renegade right now. They should be ready to ship when you order them. As for Amazon, I'm not sure what you're seeing there. Hasbro is still clearing out some of the old stock, and Renegade might also be selling there. If you do decide to buy from Renegade, we'd appreciate it if you used this link: bit.ly/RenegadeGameStudios It lets Renegade know where the sale came from, and we get a small commission. Thanks for watching!
I already have all these but could buy new sets for sure. I need to know if the colors on the military units is same or close to same between editions. Could buy new edition and keep older units for new games as back up if the colors are relatively close.
I fell down the A&A customization rabbit hole during the pan-damn-demic and wound up spending over three thousand dollars on custom printed maps, 3D printed pieces and HBG pieces. And I still cannot find anyone to play this game with me. HA!!!!
With the new reprints, are you considering doing a how to play for axis and allies 1914? I think since it’s more available I see the player base rising.
Just useless FYI: Reason why the NOTES section in 1942 but not 1940E and P? I print saddle stapled manuals like that and you have to have a certain number of pages. The 1942 manuals ended up with less rules on odd pages, so they had to include more pages to staple the book. 👍
If you have access to a 3D printer I recommend taking that route. Some college campuses actually have some and even let you use their printers for free as long as you bring your own materials.
46:10: "I don't know what you're going to do if you need to take notes, 'cause there's no note pages." Umm, take notes on separate sheets of paper, perhaps? 😀
Both are great games. 1941 is more like the big brother to Anniversary, while 1914 is more loke a cousin. So, no wrong choice here. :) Thanks for watching!
Hahaha! I told him this would happen! He does have AA50 and lots of accessories, but I don't know about the others. However, he is confident (as am I) that he has every official published version of the game - Jedko and Nova versions up through the Renegade reprints. Thanks for watching!
Anniversary Edition was released in the late 2000's, but has been out of print for a long time. There is a rumor that Renegade Game Studios is working on reprinting it soon! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the feedback! We thought about that, but with the exception of 1914, the unit counts all stayed the same. So, we didn't provide breakdowns of the older versions. Was there something specific you were looking for?
Do you consider the Xeno Games - World at War Deluxe (1996) a part of Axis and Allies franchise or just a variant in the evolution of the game we have today?
I have heard of it, but I haven't ever seen it in person. There are loads of great A&A variants (Young Grasshopper, BBR, etc) and it looks like the Xeno Games - World at War was the most successful of that bread so far. Still, when I think games that are part of the "according to Hoyle" Axis & Allies franchise, only those published by Nova, Jedko, Milton Bradley, Avalon Hill, Hasbro, WotC, and now Renegade are part of that rarified air. Basically, those that directly involved Larry Harris. Great question! Thanks for watching!
We are working on that! We will be back at Gen Con this year to capture the game histories of lots of A&A action, including the Global final. Thanks for watching!
That might have gotten lost in the edit. We both agreed that the IPC production chart on the 1914 map is ill-conceived and pretty well useless. Good catch! Thanks for watching!
I'm kinda new to the A&A community but has there been a discussion about infantry and tanks killing planes? I know there are examples of this happening but they were exceptions. I feel like the current AAA is pointless to purchase and I've never seen it purchased. I just think if subs have an exemption from being hit by planes without a destroyer present then planes shouldn't the hit by infantry. I know this would massively affect balance in favor of planes when they are already great but there has to be some way to balance that.
I left this here as it concerns the games, not A game. As I stated on Renegade's site i would probably be all in if i could find ftf opponents. This is an age-old problem as my very first wargame was AH Stalingrad over 50 years ago! My local game store doesn't carry any A&A games and shows no interest in doing so. He had no interest in doing so! I'm in Tallahassee, Florida. I could play online, but I want to try 1914.

I think he has a few of them, but they aren't generally thought of as "official" A&A games. So, he is still calling his collection "complete." Thanks for watching!
I would have bought it but I am against the censorship applied to the Nazi symbol, both on the box where the flag is hidden and on the tokens, which are inconsistent.
To each their own, however, there are many places in the world where the game could not be sold if it included those images, whether historically accurate or not. In fact, I avoid allowing any Nazi symbols to appear in any of my videos. This policy is primarily because I have been approached by White Nationalists through my channel in the past, and I want to make it 100% crystal clear that I'm not interested. But, a very close secondary reason is that RUclips and other platforms would remove the entire video and I put too much time and effort into my work to take that kind of risk. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for watching the video.
Hi thanks for your reply, you are right in the end you have to consider the sales factor it is still an article. As a lover of history it always hurts me to see certain aspects of a bygone era being covered. I have noticed that RUclips bans certain historical content or current topics especially political ones, I understand your caution. I'm sorry for your misadventure with these fanatics here probably if they weren't there would be fewer restrictions.
The idea was to get the games updated and back on the shelves without any major changes. Have you tried bidding to help balance the different versions?
@@BoardGameNation For sure bidding is required for all versions, I was hoping there would be more official input and changes to get the games balanced, especially now that Larry is helping out. Anyways, really glad for Renegade to pick up the A&A francize, looking forward to the new upcoming games. If somehow Axis and Allies War at Sea makes a come back I am ready to drop couple of G's :) and I think other players would too.
I think new editions of the various versions might come down the road, but their focus now seems to be on getting the current versions back in stores and on tables. They are also doing a ton of community engagement project. I'm excited to see what they do next. Getting Guadalcanal reprinted is cool. The new North Africa campaign should be fun. Everyone would love to see AA50 back out there. We will see how it goes. Either way, this is waaaay more effort and care than we saw out of Hasbro in all the time they controlled it. Thanks for sharing!
Was wondering besides axis allies first Ed gem game there's three release of Milton Bradley axis allies technically still first edition 1984, 1986, and 1987 am I correct I'm looking for which ever edition had commander Chris rules was wondering if anyone knew which that was. There also is one of these variety that the industry bombs rules are different
Thanks for watching! I think the first edition (now commonly called Classic) from 1984 was the only version that had the Command-in-Chief rules. Not 100% sure, but I think that is right. Hope that helps!
@@BoardGameNation thx I'm sure each other release in 86 87 etc would have an appropriate copy right difference in Manuel possible I'm trying to get a collection of unsealed and sealed variety of everything I have most of them where's the next gen con haven't been there in years and years I'd like to try my hand at the various allies tournament how many different varieties do they play competition in I have won lots of local toy shop conventions back in day and played regular since a teen
The original with the Styrofoam trays was way better. I got the other versions to make additional units that do not exist. I would also make Italy and France as countries. Never liked the victory cities always use total warfare. The newer games are a mixed bag they made them better in some respects but overall, they are not better than the original. Made them super cheap and watered down junk.
The classic is a great game. Have you tried the global version of A&A? It adds France, Italy, China, and ANZAC as payable powers. Air bases, Naval bases, and loads of other additions. I think you'd like it. Thanks for watching!
I have not but thank you for the recommend. It is hard to find gamers for either war games or D&D. I play HOI 3 quite a bit. A & A was my first war game then I got into the SSI computer games and Europa. Loved gaming meet some really cool people. @@BoardGameNation
I critiqued this game video to death and RUclips screwed me in trying to post it and I am not about to rewatch it all over again to replicate it. Let is suffice to say that NOVA Game Design was the original version in 1981 and Milton Bradley bought them out and did not print their original version until 1984. All of these newer versions are just pretenders. Also, Larry Harris's real name is Lawrence H. Harris. The new AA gun rule as written @59:20 is still wrong, it should never be an automatic kill for ANY solo air unit attacking a solo AA gun even if the AA gun misses on the 1st round. The combat should have to continue in rounds until one side kills the other. Whoever wrote this "new" rule explanation is an idiot. I believe there are also new D-Day, Guadalcanal Canal & Battle of the Bulge versions of this A&A game system which were not covered. And for the bearded wonder, you still don't own the Axis & Allies Custom map made by XENO Games which was the first to include France & China as separate nations nor do you own the Deluxe version of A&A or the expansion that was printed by XENO games nor do you own the XENO games World at War series 1-4 editions. (4th edition 2005 for example) Nor do you own the XENO Europe at War versions 1 & 2 and nor do you own the XENO games World at War 1939-45 expansion printed in 1990 and you do not own the Russia at War or the Pacific at War versions made by XENO. You are not old school enough to know about these. You still have a lot of collecting to do.
"Bearded Wonder" Hahahaha! I am going to call him that from now on. Thank you for watching and for all the feedback! However, if we are being precise, his name is actually "Lawrence Holiday Harris, Jr." See you in the next video!
Wow, a lot of unnecessary anger projected here. Scolding a fellow gamer like that makes you come out very bitter and elitist. Are you fun to hang around at parties?
So you skipped the best version 50th where the game isn’t basic but doesn’t take 13 hours and a ton of head space. Really, really odd? Instead 1914, it is in imho is just terrible and lacks ALL the movement that makes Axis and Axis & Allie’s what it is. In fact it isn’t even A&A to me personally. But I abhore WWI game speriod for there static nature so that could be my own bias. Feels like a lost opportunity in the video.
1914 is great for beginners as the combat isnt too intricate. It represents an entirely different way to play the game and that is honestly why i love it so much. It is less about getting lucky with certain dice rolls and more about having good strategy and insights
This video wasn't designed to go through the entire A&A franchise. This video was focused exclusively on the versions that Renegade Game Studios has taken over the production of. We do have a video our channel marking the 40 year anniversary of the franchise that does walk through every version of A&A starting with the Nova Games version in 1981 and ending with Zombies. You can find that on our channel. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for watching the Board Game Nation - Axis & Allies - Mass Unboxing of Renegade Game Studios Reprints! We hope you enjoyed and found it informative. What did we miss? Are you excited about having these games in your local stores again?

So from what I gathered you can buy 1940 Europe and Pacific and combine them? Do the rules to do that come in both boxes or is it a separate ruleset? We played a lot of A&A back in the day and you have peaked my interest heh.
Glad to hear it!
That's right. 1940 Europe and Pacific were designed to be played separately or as one massive game called "Global." The rules for that variant are printed in both rulebooks.
Let me know if you have any more questions! Have fun! Thanks for watching!
Record any house rules in the notes section.
Never bought into this series, but now, after seeing this video and your world championship video, I'm in. Thanks guys. Recently retired, I have the time to play.
Awesome! Congrats on retirement! Have fun!
You guys totally reignited my passion for Axis and Allies, been addicted to AA Online ever since your world championship after action reports. And as a gaming channel, your content is well paced, informative and charming.
That's great to hear! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
The new Axis and Allies game is called North Africa and is coming out in August. It uses a D10 system. :)
You can always house rule the game! I do by adding fortifications and oil field objectives.
Thank you both for this great summary of every axis and allies game! 😊 I'm currently restarting my gaming entry into the A&A hobby. 😇🤞🏼
Oh man guys this was great. Really getting me pumped to play these new reprints! Thanks so much!
Awesome! Love to hear it! We had fun going through them.
Thanks for watching!
Good call! Thank you and thanks for watching!
Awesome unboxing and discussions of the games. I am very excited about the upcoming N. Africa campaign series!
So are we! Thanks for watching!
Watching this, I still have the first edition of 1940 Europe and Pacific. Very fun to play with friends.
Also the 1914 I got the original and is super fun to re-enact trench warfare.
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
Really extensive info you prepared here. :-) Now if Renegade would only reprint A&A Anniversary again! For me, it's the best version of the game in a single box.
Thanks for watching! I know that Renegade wants to reprint AA50. I am guessing it is in the works.

Btw, you can download pdf versions of the all the rulebooks from the Renegade website. It isn't the same, of course, but you could print them out for use table side.

I never wrote in the notes section, but what I did do was print out major speeches from the era from each nation for each player to read as fun inspiration. Everyone gets a kick out of Patton' speech.
Sounds like fun! Thanks for sharing!
Maybe the notes pages in the rule books are for "house rules". Maybe the 1940 games are fleshed out enough that they figure that won't be needed.
Good call!
I will keep banging away at this and hope for change. Thanks for watching!
I want to play these games with you gents! Thanks so much for the extensive overview!
You're welcome to join us anytime in Memphis! 😀
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching! I have it on good authority that the North Africa game is on its way to the printer! :)
I have a weird version of axis and allies. It comes in a blue box and just says axis and allies 1942, control the fate of the world. The map design is a lot different than all these
I believe that is the Revised Edition. Fun game! Some people's favorite version.
Thanks for watching!
Great box openings! Y'all two are so fun together.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

They are taking pre-orders now for that version! Follow the link in the video's description to get yours!
Thanks for watching!
Sounds great! Thanks for watching!
Great unboxing , good info
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Great video....makes me want to go back to A and A...I haven't played it since War Room came out.
War Room is pretty great, but it is hard to beat a classic!
Thanks for watching!
That sounds like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing!
That would be confusing! Thanks for watching and for sharing!
Great job! This was very interesting and helpful, thank you!
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great video! Thank you! 👍

yes finally a comparasion of all the A&A games but you forgot A&A 1941 Anniversary Edition and older A&A games
This video was about the A&A reprints that came out this year from Renegade Game Studios. Sadly, they haven't reprinted AA50... yet.
However, Shannon did do a comparison video that did cover every version of the game, including AA50 and all the older versions.
Here is that link: ruclips.net/video/7kVessTrJnk/видео.html

Thanks for doing this! I'm partway through and just wanted to note before I forget that the color variation you are seeing in the 1942 map vs. the Hasbro 2012 printing could just be standard variation within a print run. I've been on many press checks in my career as a graphic designer, and have seen some big shifts from what I've approved on press to what has been delivered to the customer. In isolation, no one would really notice, but side-by-side it's very apparent. Magenta is heavier in the Hasbro one and black looks a little light, FWIW. :)
That is awesome information! Thanks for sharing!

I only bought 1914 from Renegade as I already bought all the other contemporary versions from AH and figured my money would be better spent going towards more board games! However it is good to see what has been upgraded.
You should see the sizes of HBG's global war maps if you think 7 feet is big, they have 8 foot maps!
Haha! I'm not sure I could fit an 8' map on all the tables in my studio... combined!
Thanks for watching!
I’ve got a 5’ by 10’ map. Was it a waste of my money? Should I have bought a smaller version? Maybe
Wow! Nothing that brings us joy is a waste. (That is what I keep telling my wife anyway!) 😆😆😬
10 foot map, would love to have it. My Global 40-map is only 4 x 8,3 feet but I got it made to fit in the well of my gaming table.

We are working on a system that will help people connect with other players. You might consider joining the Board Game Nation Find-a-Player project!

He he... watching this a couple months later, seeing Shannon's t-shirt, and knowing that GI Joe Battle of the Arctic Circle now is available for pre-order. :D
WW2 and WW1.
They should make a Civil War version or Perhaps the Napoleonic Wars. Axis and Allies game rules, especially the combat system would be perfect for 1800's warfare.
P.S Don;t forget to pick up 'Axis and Allies Zombies' !
Thanks for watching!
I have one little tiny disappointment:
Yes, I am one of those filthy, disgusting heathens who loves, and still plays, Axis & Allies Revised (or as I still call it - "The Blue Box").
That isn't a game I have tried, but I will keep an eye out for it. Thanks for watching!
Great unboxing! I purchased the huge Global 1940 mat several weeks ago, however it remains on pre-order and Renegade was unable to provide data on when it might ship. Just FYI for those who may want to buy it.

A quick detail correction, in European combat, no army has won more battles than the French.

I still like the older version, I am trying to be excited with the new but I just don't know if I like all the changes, Dds? and new territories vs the old Hasbro version 1942. Played in the 80s and 90s, loved the game. Is there any way to still play that game on line? I live in the middle of no where now.
The classic is a lot of fun, but I don't know anywhere online that it is being played. Sorry. You can try 1942.2 online.
Thanks for watching!
The future of Axis & Allies is homebrew rules or maybe if they want to make a WWIII version that I suppose could work.

With the new reprints, are you considering doing a how to play for axis and allies 1914? I think since it’s more available I see the player base rising.
Just useless FYI:
Reason why the NOTES section in 1942 but not 1940E and P? I print saddle stapled manuals like that and you have to have a certain number of pages. The 1942 manuals ended up with less rules on odd pages, so they had to include more pages to staple the book. 👍
Thank you! Mystery solved!

I miss the plastic factories of the Milton Bradley game. 1940 didn't come with resealable bags? I guess with the boxes you don't need it.
If you have access to a 3D printer I recommend taking that route. Some college campuses actually have some and even let you use their printers for free as long as you bring your own materials.
I think the notes section is for house rules

Not sure how popular it would be but please play a game of AA global in the same style you made your championship video which btw I absolutely loved
We are working on that! We will be back at Gen Con this year to capture the game histories of lots of A&A action, including the Global final.
Thanks for watching!
What would you think about an Axis and Allies Barbarossa or Stalingrad?
Sounds fun! We are getting North Africa this year!
Thanks for watching!
51:44 Shannon mentioned he had one problem with it but I didn't hear it. What was it?
That might have gotten lost in the edit. We both agreed that the IPC production chart on the 1914 map is ill-conceived and pretty well useless.
Good catch! Thanks for watching!
thank you
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
can you play 1942 with the yoga mat?
Yes, you can play the 1942 setup for Global on the new playmat.
I will admit, I don't think I have ever purchased an AA gun.

1984 Original MB Edition (plastic pieces)?
I'm not sure what you mean. Can you clarify?
I left this here as it concerns the games, not A game. As I stated on Renegade's site i would probably be all in if i could find ftf opponents. This is an age-old problem as my very first wargame was AH Stalingrad over 50 years ago! My local game store doesn't carry any A&A games and shows no interest in doing so. He had no interest in doing so!
I'm in Tallahassee, Florida. I could play online, but I want to try 1914.

Thanks for watching!
@BoardGameNation I'm sorry, but have you looked at that lately? SIX postings for finding a player THIS YEAR. NONE, in 2023. I'll have better luck with Facebook. While I laud your stated goal, your actions don't match.
I don't know where the players are, but they aren't in N, Florida, or S. Georgia!
I'll probably just stick to computer wargames.
@BoardGameNation I think what it comes down to is that I'm not going to invest a lot of money for it to gather dust on my shelf. I hate it comes down to that.
Apologies for the slow reply. I was traveling all last week. Have you registered for our Find-a-Player project? I don't see anyone listed near Tallahassee. I have some players in Dothan, AL and Jacksonville.

Sorry to hear that your local game store wasn't very helpful. Are there any other stores in your area that might be more receptive?

What about Anniversary Edition?
We made this before the Anniversary Edition was announced. Here is our unboxing of the "New" Anniversary Edition.

Thanks for watching!
got any games from xenos?/ its a store that is or use to be in charleston sc!!!!
I think he has a few of them, but they aren't generally thought of as "official" A&A games. So, he is still calling his collection "complete."
Thanks for watching!
Does anyone know why the German color changed from gray to black?
I love dice.
We see you. 🙂
i wish they would redue Anniversary edtition please
So do we! I understand that RGS is working on it.
Thanks for watching!
My favorite board game of all time.
It is a great one! Thanks for watching!
World championship of Anniversary Edition... let's go!
@@christopherwilson2606 - I think that would be awesome!
No balance changes? All games need to get balanced.
War at Sea??
Notes pages, I use for "house rules" and or notes per specific players. Like Al is NOT ALLOWED TO PLAT GERMANY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha! Thanks for sharing!
I have Axis and Allies Guadalcanal
Great game! Thanks for watching!
"Covid restrictions" pffft.... what a joke....
I'm not sure what you mean.
However, if we are being precise, his name is actually "Lawrence Holiday Harris, Jr."
See you in the next video!
