dislikes used to show up "way back when", I think they dropped the unlikes after bullies overdid it to young teens.....I think it would be healthy to have downvotes on comments though, it would be a good indicator for people to know when they are stepping out of line against logical thought and societies permissions. Political correctness can be unhealthy.

@Abkforeverr It's a big learning-curve when you start with horses. I learned quickly that sharing knowledge with other horsey people is crucial, especially to avoid injuries.

I have this video saved and as a trainer myself I sware I've come back to watch her train this stallion 30 plus times. She does amazing work and I admire her training and the way she gains a horses trust.
I like that she frees them and uses no treats when they do good. Only movement and mutual understandment. Perfektt

That comes from indians (as taught to me by one)too blow in the nose is too show them your head of the heard..I was a trainer most my life, she uses her whip as a weapon and thats wrong to threaten i used mine as a guide and tap the ground , today i bet he fears whips cause of that, she not a bad trainer she rushes too much. ALWAYS work in a round pen! When your work in square you force the horse in a corner and then what happens they get defensive good way to get kicked and saw too many times people making that mistake , lady i knew got what she deserved when she did that same thing got kicked right in her head and landed in the hospital lol she never did that again, If his owner would've took time with him slowly he be ok he was wild and people think it happens over night, he got a awesome horse and today I hope has a great life full of love!

@popcorns house So, kissing the horse is bad? She is showing the horse affection. The horse realizes that it IS affection. Animals think and perceive a lot more than most people will admit. Look at Cesar Milan, he knows what the dogs are thinking. and then he knows how to get the behavior out of the dog that he wants. Mia is doing the exact same thing. You say that she puts herself in dangerous positions. I will bet that you would use ropes and then FORCE the horse to do as you want. It needs to be the horse's idea to do whatever the trainer wants him to do. I love watching her work with horses. Why don't YOU put out a video showing all of us how YOU would do it?
@@Rat-Builder thats because a horse - or any other animal for that matter - is not just merely a thing. its a living BEING. a creature with its own personality. Mia understands the language of horses. But any human can understand that horses, cows, dogs, cats, are not *things* and have their own personality too.

This trainer has such a quiet and peaceful mind. No BS. I don't think this can be transferred to other trainers. There is the whip to take his attention, but there is her fearless and loving attitude. She is bringing no human "baggage" to her encounters.

Kristi but the owners are getting same results with a little coaching from her, but I have always for 100 years wondered same thing. I have watched grey jumper mare, pony, and this guy and all of them had never decided to give the lead up to a person. So then we see them decide to let her lead. But they have not decided to let another human to lead, yet we can observe the results again when the owners do the same behaviors.
There are 2 kinds of Horse 'training'. Power OVER (the horse) & Power WITH (the horse). Mia is CLEARLY a GIFTED Power WITH The Horse Trainer. Thank You Mia for sharing!

This is really bullshit what she is doing... also constant kissing the horse. It’s a horse not a teddy bear... this „method“ doesn’t have any meaning for me. Maybe it’s working for her, for the moment .. but for sure not sustainable !

I love it when she says "good boy" to the owner as well. XD It's an important to remember, though: we need to train ourselves as much as our horses - indeed, moreso.
He is a very mellow for a wild stallion. He never tried to struck or use full power. He is a beauty.

Jd Fergusson If one know the body language of a horse and doesn't push past that point to over power but to work with instead, as one will see if they watch it again and again, the horse will not in most cases kick out. Some also misunderstand what a stallion is. It does not mean wild horse. It means in tact. He came very close to kicking out a few times which can be seen in the tightening of the horses muscles and the minute movements in his feet.
You can see when she really hits a break through at 7:25 when he is yawning. Horses yawn to release tension and stress. It was sohard for him to close himself off but he did it to protect himself. Once he realized he didn’t have to close himself off he started releasing the tension and initiating contact with her by reaching out with his nose.

I suspect he had an irritating taste or sensation in his mouth. You're thinking of dogs(and humans), and their yawns.
@@jerrybobteasdale You are very funny! Getting a horse to yawn is golden. This horse responded very quickly. He's no fool!
I'm pretty sure that's flehmen, and not a yawn. It's not quite the usual way a stallion does it, since his head is low instead of high. But in either case, it's a reaction to scent. It seems to me she links her scent with her leadership role (kissing on the nose and hugging the head), rather than rewarding good behavior the way most of us do (patting or rubbing and saying"good boy"). Since horses don't pat each other, the scent method is probably better for interspecies communication.

This is the third video I’ve watched of her training and what an incredible horsewoman. Love the philosophy of no force training but helping the horse to choose the behaviours you want.

Many years ago I attempted to work with a wild quarter horse stallion...an experience that I will never forget! We were totally unable to keep him in a stall of any kind and wound up turning him loose in a corral with a long rope attached to his halter. To observe the incredible progress that this trainer was able to achieve in such a short time was nothing short of amazing! Job more than well done and a real tribute to a human's ability to communicate with a wild creature!

No denying she gets results and it's not from fear, it's an agreement between the 2 of them. Most of the ppl negatively commenting couldn't get a horse to follow them in 10 days no matter what!

I agree. I wouldn’t use all of the techniques and methods she uses, but as a trainer you have to be open minded and realize you can learn something from everyone. Again, I wouldn’t use everything she does but she also does get results and there are some things I can learn and take away from her methods.
Delucas Stud I agree she doesn’t use every technique correctly or the way I would, but again we can always learn something. I know there are faster ways, more gentle ways, etc etc. But it’s always good to see what other people do and learn from that.
The way she trains is just not right. she's chasing the horse. her reward is rubbing and kissing, while the horse doesn't like to be rubbed and kissed. the reward should be walking away. I know her method works. But it's not a good method, because the horses get really stressed out and in order to get out of the stress they need to listen. DOn't you dare say that people who comment negatively can't train horses. That's a really really really bad assumption you made a fucking year ago but you can't tell me that I, and all the other people who agree with me, are worse trainers than she is. I mean, she is not the absolute worst. But she is very fucking far from the best.

People who don't know much about training horses, will probably think this isTHE way to train horses. Look at all the comments, they are all completely positive. Which means that they don't understand what's wrong with this method, and learn from her. I don't blame the commenters. I have watched this video several times and every time I learn something new. The first thing is how incredibly gifted and Brave you are Mia ! I am taking Bear out now to the bigger area at the Stables . I had been teaching Him to come to me like you have taught. Yesterday was only His second day out in the new one space . When we were ready to go , My Husband just reached out his hand and Bear walked right over to him . Yay ! Bear stood still while Gary put the halter on. And we all walked calmly back. All the petting and rubbing and building a loving relationship with Little Bear paid off. I knew from the first time I watched you , I wanted to learn your way with Horses . Yes, average Joe would do well to buy one that has received at least 3 months training by one quality handler already.. Of cource there are those that have the experience of training many young horses under expert quidance and have a natural ability to 'read' horses that could do basic training from zero even if a bit 'wild one', but they are usually the top 0.1%, very gifted and dedicated from childood who have spent more time at the stables than home..

What a beautiful quarter stallion! You did a wonderful job showing him, not only for him to follow you/his person, but that he can trust humans.
I don't understand why there so many negative comments. What Mia is doing is what many other natural horse trainers do, and there are many videos here on RUclips of similar examples. While Monty Roberts is the most publicly known, there are many others who from some forty years ago or so developed and popularised methods based on the understanding of horse psychology as learned from observing herds of wild horses. Mia's technique is a bit bolder, and her idea of a "safe corner" is interesting, but the fundamentals of "join up" are universal. In this case, the fact that the horse was "halter broke" and used to being led and have his face touched made progress much faster. I recommend the many videos by "elisa wallace eventing" and "nativehorse" to see how wild mustangs are trained with these methods. Every horse is a bit different, some can be ridden after half an hour, others after a month, but now that horse psychology is much more widely known, the approach is very different from fifty years ago. I am amazed that the horses of my youth were so forgiving of the poor ways we treated them. I never encountered liberty training as a kid, but it is so integral to good training methods today. It's a pity that many people just don't have the time or purpose to do it.

If you look into horsemanship a bit more it will become apparent to you why her methods are very rushed and show a lack of understanding of horse mentality. She constantly pins horses in her videos and refuses to give them the release of pressure, watch the video on mute and pay attention to the horse. Horses with high heads and ears are agitated and uncomfortable. A horse like this could or perhaps even should take up to a year to feel comfortable enough to be doing things with people. Not immediately expecting to put a headcollar on, the fact that he was bought this way makes me worry for this horses continued happiness as he's used to a life vastly different to what he's now expected to cope with, to the point where I'd say this is actual animal cruelty to "domesticate" him.
This isn't "natural" horse training, in nature there are no corners, a higher ranking herd member will not pin the subordinate into a corner and continue to threaten him, in nature the subordinate horse ALWAYS has the option to retreat out of the situation.

I love the moment when the horse accepts the owner. Very sweet. The horse understands what is happening. Mia is very intuitive and keen on reading the body language of the horse and she has great respect and understanding of the animal. These videos are so satisfying to watch. Thank you.

Communication with your animal and letting them choose instead of forcing them is like majic, and brings out the best in any animal. I'm impressed with how well she understands and can read the horse. She says, " what do you have in your pocket?" She knew the horse was focused on something. That's the whole key to training ANY animal. There's truth in whispering. She's a horse whisperer❤💜💙

I have watched several videos of Mia training horses that others could not train. It's amazing how she is able to gain their trust and get them to choose to comply starting even on the first day. You see the progress in the video. She has a genuine love and respect for horses and the horses sense it. So humbling that she donates a lot of time to help horses, especially wild caught horses coming from auction so they can become calm and manageable with people and other horses. She has a true gift.
FYI, he isn't yawning because he is tired, he is yawning because it releases stress and it means he is relaxing and accepting her.
Also tired, since all that brain work is exhausting - same with dogs, but yawning IS a sign of wanting to do the old behaviors but being ready to change and accept the new ones, at least in dogs.

These videos by Mia are soooo calming. I have no experience with horses whatsoever; I am a canine trainer. But watching Mia in action is just wonderful. Many of her techniques and training theories work with dogs too!!
I really like her approach. She gains the horse's attention quickly, and by persistence and praise she gains his trust. I thought the ear touching was a little quick, but not aggressive, and she didn't frighten him. My guess is that those who make such negative comments have never established such a relationship with a horse. Rather than criticize, why don't you direct us to your page and show us how YOU do it so much better. ;) Nice work, Mia!

Ms. Nielsen, I want to thank you. I have ridden horses all my life, but I have always had an adversarial relationship with them. Everything I asked them to do was always a fight of wills. Watching your videos, I have learned much about how horses think and how human must approach them. When the quarantine is over, I want to seek out riding lesson at my local stable and start building my relationship with horses from the beginning with what I've learned by watching you. Thank you.

I love your way with horses. I wish more people understood this way. I am an experienced horsewoman. I have watched several of your training videos and find your methods quite unconventional but GOOD and perfectly APPROPRIATE. From my view, it appears that Mia sees the spirit of the horse. She sees how people can partner with horses without breaking the horse's spirit. No one who loves and understands horses would want their spirit broken. Her training focuses on the relationship between horse and human. This is a good spin on the right attachment with our horses. Well done, Mia. I look forward to watching all of your training videos.

“Believing it” is one of the most important parts here! If you don’t believe that you are the leader the horse certainly isn’t going to either. Whether you realize it or not if you don’t feel like you’re in control, your body language shows it and they catch on real quick.
I don’t have a horse (never had one) and it’s many years since I have ever been on a horse. What you achieve is amazing and I love watching how you work with the horses.!

There's a saying by John Maxwell that says "If you lead and no one follows, you are only taking a walk". Clearly this beautiful lady is a leader among humans and horses. When she walks, the horse wants to follow. It is a choice and she illustrates that very well. Thank you for sharing.

I am amazed by the armchair experts who can watch this video and say that she does not know what she is doing, when the success she achieves if blindingly obvious. Most people, even experienced riders, are actually a little afraid of horses and make endless excuses for why things cannot be done. You can see this in a number of the adverse comments below.

Do not confuse caution with fear. This lady does obtain some results, but at what risk?!. And do not confuse armchair experts with experienced horsemen. The latter have ridden so many horses that they know that elementary safety precautions can save you tragic accidents, because they have seen them happening.
If you are interested by ground work with free horses, look at masters such as Frederic Pignon.You will see stunning results obtained with gentle, deeply thought out and safe approach.That is really 'Grand Art'... not two days short hazardous , approximate tricks.
I think her training methods are great, and yes armchair experts! I knew a girl like that, shunning all horse trainers and saying she could do better, I told her about a problem horse we had on the farm (would buck randomly) and she was 'advising' me what to do because my calm approach wasn't working, she also claimed to be an expert rider, so i did it, i invited her to ride this horse. She had no clue how to mount a horse, was shaking the reigns making the horse really confused, she was kicking it to go but pulling for it to stop and it bolted. Nothing bad happened but lets just say she kept her expert advise to herself. The horse, i managed to combat its bucking too, whenever it bucked i would make it work harder, he learned eventually 'bucking = work' he became a fab riding horse, in fact so fab he became dopey and lazy :D a perfect horse for novice riders. He has a new home where he is spoiled now.
I love to see how calm the horse was in the end and how the owner had a connection with it! It's beautiful to see.

My stallion was find with my gelding until the summer when he wen with the mares. His son has been brought up in the herd until the point he was mounting then he was seperated to a paddock right beside with a gelding and he currently still is. I can walk him through mares with barely no reaction and he doesnt care if he is left alone in the field or stable hes just a happy man. He is the easiest horse i have, and is a 2yo entire. I idnt handle him from birth as much as my filly, but he is much easier to work with.
This is such a good video.....I rescued a 20 year old Paso Fina stallion who has only been trained to lunge in the famous gait they naturally have!!! This woman truly impresses me with her haulterless method of gaining trust......I am using her method and it is working!!!!

She isn’t doing anything wrong. She‘s doing it her way. Moving with the the horse. It looks dangerous, and it is, but the difference is that she is confident about it. Lots of trainers go slower, way slower. And those horse probably need that slow. She is definitely a lot more ballsy than many other trainers but what she does works with the horses she trains. A trainer like this that can meet individual needs of the horses they work with are invaluable.
She doesn’t use bits, she doesn’t hit the horse, she gives them time to retreat. It doesn’t look like it to us, but it’s the small things that matter to a horse. Lots of people don‘t understand that.
it's unconscious bias that's ingrained in much of humanity, to prefer men over women for training. Thousands of years of humans takes a long time to work out.
She gets results, however, put 10 trainers in a room and you will get 10 methods. Hence, the disagreements. Not everyone commenting is a horse trainer (I'm not, I work with dogs) but you can tell from what people say whether they know something or not.
