The Luka isnt athletic thing is goofy he just doesnt have break away speed or crazy leaping abilty. Hes 6 7" 240 agile, strong, great hand eye coordination and balance.

Gil has bad takes pretty much all the time but I think in this instance, he was terrible at articulating a halfway decent point. What I think Gil was saying is that many of these players are so athletic that they forego learning the fundamentals of the game because they can coast by on their tremendous athleticism. Luka's game is designed to poke holes in players' fundamentals and highlights how unskilled some of these guys are for pro basketball players when you remove athleticism from the equation.

His court vision and ability to make split second decisions give him the ability to control the game at his own pace, and help his teammates. He always gives his teammates opportunities but they just can’t score as efficiently so luka has to take more shots because he has to. The only thing I don’t like about luka is that he is turning the ball way too much and is too slow to transition on defense. Shai is only good cause he’s faster and more shifty than luka

Arenas rambling makes zero sense. You need to be super athletic to be an elite defender. Just look at Kawhi one of the most athletic and the strongest wings in the league, but what he has over other players is work ethic and intelligence to be the best. Other incredible defender at the wing is Gordon who happens to be an exceptional athlete too.
Marcus Smart and Jru Holiday aren’t super athletic and they are the two of the top perimeter and overall defenders in the league.
@@cycleoflife565 Both are one of the strongest guards in the league and very athletic. Athleticism isn't only measured in how high one can jump. Prime harden had one of the quickest first steps ever and coudn't jump over a chair, but you would be mistaken to call him fat back then.

Honestly Luka is better than most of the top players today, even in their prime. He just get no credit since he’s white and European. He’s versatile cause he does a lot of things. In fact he’s better than KD who’s just a scorer. KD averages 27ppg, 7rpg, 4.3apg. Just a scorer. KD wanted to be considered a GOAT? Ha! I don’t think he’s top 20, just overrated. And not a leader too. But Luka is only 25yo and has potential to be top 20 and much better. Skill level I’d say he’s better than LeBron for sure. Better overall skills than Steph too, if we want to be truly honest. Not better 3 point shooter of course but all around player (rebounds, assists, etc.) But I know a lot of it has to do with popularity in media. That’s why foreign players like Jokic, Giannis, and Luka don’t get that much hype. And also which team you play for.

I keep telling people Luka needs to learn how to trust guys more and learn how to be effective off ball. Without that skill when you're only useful with the ball you are a liability especially when you don't play defense. That is what makes guys like Steph so great is how effective he is without having the ball in his hands.

But none of that matters, Luka still needs a Phil Jackson like coach to win championships or he will be another scoring wonder that never accomplishes much. I am old, I've seen all the greatest players, they were all within my time. There have been a lot of great players in this league, but I would have to honestly say without any bias whatsoever, Luka is the best player I've ever seen, including Jordan, Bird, and Magic. He actually possesses the strengths of all three of these players just mentioned into one player, and I don't think people realize how great he really is. He is as good at whatever these three players possess, or have possessed, but he has something more than each of these players. Let's be real about this, let's take a really good look at what I'm saying. He can score as good as Jordan, but he's a much better rebounder, passer, ball handler, and playmaker. He's just as good of a floor general as Magic was except he can score better and rebound better. Comparing him to Bird, he's actually a better scorer, just as good of a rebounder, and just as good of a passer, but the big difference is that he can handle the ball himself without the ball being passed to him, so he's better than Bird too
