No, egr, no dpf, no def, no expensive ass injectors, no turbos and none of the massive price tags associated with it when they go. And they will go. Only penalty is it likes gas like i like beer
Just drove a 22’ brand new 7.3l “dogzilla” and it was a total sled. I’d avoid this toilet at all costs. Dealer was offering me 2k off from the rip, yet somehow the 6.7 diesel is still 10k mark up! 😂 screw ford.
I have a f-250 tremor with the 7.3 430 gear ratio. I pull a 35ft 5th wheel camper that weights 15,500lbs with no problems. Never had a diesel, so the 7.3 pulls perfectly for me. I love this truck couldn't ask for better.
@@MNsparkycorrect. If ones lifestyle or business doesn’t justify a diesel, stay away from them, IMO. (Unless ur a kick ass diesel tech that don’t mind working on it, then do what u wish I guess). Gasoline engines have come a long way. Diesels have also come a long way but in the opposite direction thanks to emissions.
My brother's tremor 7.3 pulls 32' toyhauler with a buggy in trailer. Will lit up tires if he gets on it to quickly. 1$ less per gallon, no Def issues, no DPF crap. Mine on order. DONE WITH DIESEL PICKUPS
I have a Power stroke and a Godzilla. My Godzilla is my daily driver and tow vehicle of choice. Another big plus is the motor is not hidden under all the EPA garbage that causes most of the diesel headaches.
Delete . Problem solved. Weld on the original exhaust tip for OEM look, put a muffler and it's quiet, leave the egr for esthetics 😂, leave the def fluid cap for remembrance 😆. Put a stock tune for no black smoke 🤓. Enjoy 19-20 mpg. More horses, and a sh*t ton more satisfied ride.
@@pineforest7528 Haven't had an issue since 2016! Where do you live.? Obama, Hillary, Biden, go green, the sky is falling country? Here in God's country we think for ourselves. We're happy too. 🤔. Conformist are being lied to the same as us realist, the difference is we know better.
As well you do know that Ambulances, firetrucks and emergency responders with diesels here in parts of Tx. , Take that garbage off and delete, legally,,, because they idle the vehicle a lot and can't risk a breakdown? So they can but we can't? 😂. Hold my beer🍺. 😂
A friend that we camp with has a 2022 F-350 dually, 4 door with this engine. He loves it. It pulls great. He got it because of all the DEF crap on the diesels and all the other related expense from a modern EPA diesel.
I just moved from central FL to south central TN using a 26’ UHaul 2023 F650 with the 7.3 engine loaded to the “gills”. I’ve heard all the bad news, I’m not a Ford fan but this engine performed flawlessly, averaging 8.5 mpg at 70 mph. In normal interstate road conditions in FL and south GA the transmission didn’t downshift on the slight hills and the engine pulled over them just fine. On the downhill side the transmission (in tow/haul) held its gear and the engine braking held the 70 mph. Later as I got into north GA and TN the transmission would downshift one gear and the engine never rev’d over 3300 RPM, normal RPM at 70 mph was 2700 RPM. It made a believer out of me. I was dreading this move if I had to use a V10 powered truck because that engine was a flop from the start. Overhead cam engines don’t make good power until the higher RPM’s and by the that time you can’t stand to be inside the vehicle for the noise. I had that engine in a 1999 motor home that only got 4.6 mpg at 62 mph, and it weighed 6000 lbs less than than the Uhaul truck.
This is exactly what i am looking to get hopefully in a few years. Glad to hear the 7.3 is getting some love. I was a bit concerned about going with the 7.3 vice the power stroke. I just don't need a diesel but I will need a truck that can easily tow. Never been a Ford fan but love my super charged 14 GT and really liking what the 2023 and up 250s have to offer.
I pulled my 28' enclosed trailer loaded to 16k lbs from California to Missouri with no issues whatsoever. Other than the fuel mileage, the 7.3 gas is great at towing. Also the difference in the price of a diesel vs gas truck off sets the mpg.
Whatever you need to justify. I like the idea of the gas but soo many Godzilla 's are delaminating the camshafts so they have issues like our 6.7's. I for one will always go diesel even if not towing. I get 18 city, 24 highway and 13 towing 15k. No sweat uphill and love the exhaust brake downhill. Gas will kill the brakes regularly towing especially downhill
@@kevinarnold2601 on a weight loss plan and a good shop you will. 24 highway at 70mph all day. 3.31 gearing, if you have never heard of 24 mph on a 6.7 then you do not read enough forums. Many with 3.55 gears get 20-21mpg's highway. Not hard to do if you stop choking them out with dpf's and egr's
@@betterthanideserve76 Lol I seen you say 24 mpg out of a 6.7 and instantly thought it has to be deleted yeah all modern diesels will reach high teens mid 20s mpg when deleted but you also throw away the 60-100k mile warranty.
Very interesting. My brother has a Godzilla in his motorhome and I'm waiting on his review. Glad to have watched yours. I have a 02 7.3 PSD E-350 and a 00 V-10 F-350 4x4. I pull a 28' toy hauler. I love the V-10 F-350. Tows like a mad dog. Didn’t even blink when taking on Teton Pass from Jackson Hole. I've just gotten used to 6 to 7 mpg. As far as the high rev's go, I attribute it to that V-10 kicking ass and taking names! Best truck I've ever owned.
Nice (and I would say fair) review. I have a 2022 F250 Lariat with the 7.3 and have towed my 9K lb travel trailer over 24,000 miles, from the Midwest to the East Coast, to the Gulf Coast, to Arizona. I have not been over the Colorado Rockies yet but that is coming. Great truck, great engine, and the transmission has done a great job of maintaining speeds both up hill and down hill with the cruise control activated. The 2% failure rate from the cam and lifter problems is certainly something to keep an eye on but its my understanding the majority of those failures have been in commercial vehicles that idle a lot. I have experienced about 9.5 to 10 MPG while towing and about 16 MPG at highway speeds while not towing. In town I see about 10 MPG. However, considering the diesel is $8K more to purchase, has higher maintenance costs and only gets about 3 MPG better millage while towing, I think its a no brainer to go with this engine when you are towing less than 14K lbs.
Got one a month ago in an F450 with a Reading enclosed body and a lift gate. I'm in love so far. I haven't weighed it fully loaded with tools and materials, but it does not feel it at all. Mine has 4:88 gears and I'm at 10.5 mpg and she has some snot to get up and go.
22 XLT F250 bought in December of 21. I pull 8k-10k nearly every week, often over 4500ft pass and I love it. I had a 7.3 King Ranch years ago and Gojira is every bit what that truck was and more.
I do not know how you can say that. I had an 02’ f350 7.3 diesel and it would plant you in your seat 😮 test drive a single cab dogzilla today and it was a total sled. Getting on the highway it wouldn’t move! Felt like 5 minutes to get to 65! Brought it right back.
Got a 86 f250 4x4 6.9idi ive freshly rebuilt my engine. Upgraded turbo and intercooler studded the head alot of other things r&d pump and injectors custom cam roller rockers new roller lifters port&polish new valve springs and alot of other goodies. C6 auto built transfercase rebuilt. I tow a 33ft fithwheel similar like yours. I go from mountains of Tennessee to donalsonville ga. Did it twice a year since 1990. It is a different animal now with all the upgrades.
My 2020 Godzilla with the 10sp has done a great job towing my boat and my trailer. I'll be upgrading to a 5th wheel running about 12K lbs and have no qualms about keeping this truck to do it. I was one of the unlucky ones who had a transmission failure and it was over 10 weeks before Ford got it fixed but since getting it back it has been flawless.
I have a 2021 f350 dually fx4, 7.3 with 4.30 gearing. Absolutely love it so far. I haul all kinds of stuff with mine. Skid steer, round bales of hay, tractors, etc. The tow mode does excellent at downshifting and engine braking for a gas engine. I love not having all that stupid diesel epa crap.
My 2022 F350 crew cab 8’ long bed 7.3 with 3.73 rear is the best truck I have ever owned. The engine is smooth as glass. It can peel the rear tires. The Super Duty frame is made to tow. This truck is great. I have 28,000 miles on it. No issues. Lifetime average mpg is 14.9 per the lie-o-meter. Most of my tows are utility trailers that any 1/2 ton can pull. I bought this particular truck because of the engine and the long bed and that 48 gal tank. And it is America and I can buy what I want. And the price of my truck XLT was less than my buddy’s Lariat F-150 with a 2.7 turbo. His truck is awesome for a 1/2 ton and he gets good mileage. It’s a Cadillac ride compared to my truck. But I can haul his truck with my truck. My only complaint with my truck is you can’t drink coffee on a bumpy road. It’s a safer truck too because you can’t be writing texts while driving on bumpy roads either! 😊
i have a 2020, I love mine too. pull my 28ft trailer with a 5055JD on it all the time, has plenty of get up and go! no problems at all. i had a diesel, i traded it for this. diesel is to expensive :) loved it too. but this a grate alternative to High Diesel prices.
We’ve had a few different trucks over time. 7.3 gasser has been impressive for us at least. We went from a 460 to a diesel to a minor misadventure with a GM that was worthless. We’re half ton towable. We’re back to Ford because I just like being able to get out of third gear at 8,000 lbs and I like not being below 30 on a 4% grade.
Appreciate the video, people need to learn the difference between power and torque. The 7.3 Godzilla makes 430 HP and the 6.7 Powerstroke makes 475 HP. The higher torque of the diesel allows it to make max HP at a lower RPM....power is power...just depends what RPM it is at.
my 2021 f350 with 3.73 gears and the 7.3 is doing great, run it as a hotshot truck and now have 150 thousand miles on it, no problems but number two cylinder plug wire. im pulling 14 to 18 thousand pounds getting 9 to 11 mpg with it. in the rockys or a big head wind 7.5 to 9 mpg i also have different tires on it to help with mpg. been great truck
I have a 2020 F350 SRW with pretty much the same set up. I’m in the RV transport industry and it has just turned 190k miles. It has no trouble idling at night at the truck stops, I don’t have to worry about fuel, additives anti-gel, or any other, the issues that come along with a diesel. I’ve had the same number two cylinder misfire and have had to changed out the plug wire. But that’s the only issue I’ve had. I do carry a couple of spare plug wires in my truck. I change the oil every 200 hours, the transmission, transfer case and diff every 40K miles. My next super duty will be with the 7.3 Godzilla.
@@gregamoreno1 they have finally upgraded the plug wires, now the superduty gets the same wires as the f450 and up. i put a house hold mini split in my truck with now 600 amp hours of lithium to run it, no more idling for me
You scared me at first! LOL! I just bought a 7.3L F250 and haven't towed with it yet but have hauled a full bed and love it! Diesel is $1.05 more per gallon where I live. If a diesel averages 19mpg and my 7.3 Godzilla averages 13.5 mpg, I spend about ONE PENNY per mile more in fuel to drive the gasser. I can buy lots of gas for $10,000 at 1 cent per mile. Then factor in Oil changes, DEF, and other diesel maintenance and there is way more cost difference. Now if I was towing heavy regularly, I could justify a diesel, but my 7.3 Godzilla is my currently my daily driver.
Love my 2022 Godzilla 7.3 with 3:55 gears pulls my 2022 dune sport toyhauler 26ft cbb fully loaded just fine 13,500 ILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER POWERSTROKE DIESEL AGAIN And I traded in a 2013 6.7 f450 4wd witch broke on me a 100,000 miles LOVE THIS TRUCK
Like I mentioned to you earlier when I purchased my truck over last weekend. I test drove the Godzilla in the F350 but it was just xl (work truck) but it got the bug out of my system. I think it is a good engine. It kind of reminds me of my old 460 but the main difference is it revs really high but other then that it is night and day over the ford 6.2 But I am still really pleased with my purchase (keep in mind only bought diesel because they gave me 15k off and no mark up, not because I didn’t like the Godzilla) 22 f350 xlt crew cab long bed 6.7 powerstroke and so far I love that 48 gallon tank. I am really enjoying your videos because I do really want to buy a couple 350 regular cab Godzilla for my construction company. Keep the videos coming 👍🏻
2020 7.3 pull 11500 toy hauler with 3.55 gears part time. Get 7-9mpg towing depending on weight of toy hauler and hills. Get avg 11mpg at 20k Get 13mpg around town. Get 16mpg highway with Lear topper and deck system in bed full of stuff not towing. Got 17mpg highway slick before adding weight. Had 5.4 150 and 6.2 250 before and this thing gets about same mpg with way more capability in payload and towing. Compare capability of old 7.3 diesel... No issues. Luv it.
Gas stations were always a problem for me. Most stations don’t accommodate as well for gasoline rigs pulling a large towable behind. Most have more room at the diesel pumps that have long rigs
I have the 2020 7.3 F250 Lariet. 3.55 axle. I pull a 8,000 lb. Conventional camper with no problem what so ever. Living in Colorado, we have pulled up and down the Colorado Rockies with no issues. The cruise control, engine and transmission works like a champ. We pulled long haul to Yellowstone, and the Black Hills with no issues. Averages 10 mph towing the 8,000 lb. Camper, with 750 lbs. of cab occupants, and another 500 lbs. truck bed cargo. The 7.3 is a beast. I’m loving this truck so far.
A lot of people are complaining about towing problems. They weren't smart enough to get the 4:30 gears. They probably got the 3:55 for gas mileage. Lol
My F350 7.3 gas was delivered March 2020. I love it. I get 12 to 13 mpg back and forth to town ( 10 mile each way) and about 5 mpg while towing 15K gooseneck trailer up curvy 16 percent grade from a stop. There always seems to be plenty of power left over. It pulls so well. The truck has a little over 25K miles on it right now. Oil has always been changed every 5k or sooner. I will be seriously be looking at the oil from now on.
Let me tell you what a master mechanic that sees all types of vehicles and works on every model. The design of the motor is simple a basic almost old school. He's already seen these trucks used hard in our area and no failures with 10,000's of thousands of miles already. No power compared to what. The old 7.3 diesels only had 225 hp stock and no more torque than this gas. All manufacturers have parts failures unfortunately. Heck you can put a new engine in this truck cheaper than replacing injection system on a 6.7
I totally love my. 7.3 I tow roughly 11,200 lbs fully loaded 5th wheel I could only find the truck with 3.55 gears but to my surprise, it still tows with ease.
An F250 gas owner who lives down my block also pulls a 5th wheel; but his has the 6.2! Takes the hit on mileage while towing and gets way better as a daily driver! Saved on the diesel engine, DEF, and oil changes that aren’t nearly as expensive. Also, a Ford mechanic here on YT said to switch to Baldwin Filters because not only are they better but they hold a quart more oil.
I’m trying to decide here diesel or this engine in particular and for a moment you got me with a bad review of this engine 😢now I’m glad that you are happy with it because to me that I not tow everyday I don’t really need a diesel engine so thanks buddy for your honest review
Absolutely.....I think the l8t chevy gas hd is the best teuck for 24. But the godzilla in good configuration can do tons of work and the ford seats are softer and the truck is easier to see out of.
Had me ready to burn my 7.3's at the beginning lol! Anyway I really love mine it does everything i want it to do! Question though, would you put another set of Timbren bags on or go with air bags? I pull a 30' livestock trailer so i do get some pretty good loads on. Thank you!!
On that they do sell a heavy service timbren, I personally if you want zero maintenance I'd go with that. It's way cheaper. Unless you want to put auto air bags, it's a pain to air them.up and then out.
I have a 2022 I pull my gooseneck trailer with cat skid steer with a total weight of right close 17,000lbs in the mountains not hills 3 miles 9%grade with no problem
I BOUGHT MINE IN MARCH 2020. ONE OF THE FIRST ONES ON THE STREET. I also tow a 5thwheel. Handles great towing. No issues so far. 435 hp almost the same a diesel...less torque
Cool to hear a great experience with a 7.3 as an alternative to diesel. Other than the roller-lifter issue, which more than likely is a bar-stock issue and QA/QC materials issue as you mentioned, the diesels are just not where they need to be with the unreliability of their DEF and DEP systems. They may get it right down the road as time progresses, but as of now all 3 brands are not great for reliability right now and so a good gasser that can handle what most people tow, ie, not a 30k load, is good to know.
I pull a 12,000 lb fifth with f250 3.37 gears. Love it Better than the 2017 6.7 with less than 60,000 that burnt to the ground while driving. 410,000.00 lesd no more def no more 100.00 fuel filter changes more 17 qt of oil. Yes i will a less fuel mileage for the rest.
I have 8 f350s from 2012-2017 with the 6.2 in them and they all pull 12,000-13,000 lbs multiple times a week and they all have between 150,000-290,000 miles and I have never had to replace work on an engine or trans in any of them to date. I have one 2022 f250 7.3 and at 12,000 miles it bent a push rod.
I wonder how many people with lifter failure got there service done at Jiffy lube. Years back, a big issue with the 6.0 diesel injectors was cheap oil and foaming. Good oil led to great service. Maybe this is the lifter issue to. Not all oil is equal....
That is 💯 true. I only used Motorcraft oil in my 6.0 and my 6.4 and over maintained both and not one issue and both those trucks now have over 150k, no issues. I do believe a lot of issues are because maxed out service intervals, and inadequate parts, fuels and lubricants.
I think there's a strong possibility that the cam & lifter failures might be due to low oil pressure at idle, and have a lotta idle time on them. They have a strange variable volume oil pump on them. Perhaps there's a simple way to bump the oil pressure up should that be the case. Hopefully we get a solid answer soon.
Could be but….if you look at the history of this problem it’s only one of them mostly that goes bad and at random points on the motor that fail. This leads me to believe it’s just a bad part.
@@ryantrott9529 Well, at any rate, it seems that it's always been less than 1% of the 7.3L Godzilla engines produced, and even less in the later stuff. I'm just going to assume that the problem, whatever it is or was, has been resolved.
It’s funny people say that but we used it have diesels with less power towing the weight 20yrs ago with no issues. Before that it was the old big blocks, granted it was slow but worked.
I want a standard cab DRW 350 2wd with this engine in it even if I can't really afford the truck. Last I specced one like I want it the price came up to somewhere around $45,000 so I guess I'll have to stick with my 7.3L Powerstroke powered OBS dually.
I have a 2020 f250 7.3 I love it it pulls great shifts smoothly I have 25,000 miles on it I pulled a toy hauler from New Jersey to South Dakota going 65-70 I was getting around 10.5 to 11 mpg I really think it’s how you treat your truck from breaking down !!

You mentioned you were going to get the GM 6.6 gas to compare it to are you waiting to get the new version with the 10-speed transmission? I'll be making a purchase in the near future so would love to see that comparison as well as the new 6.8.
I was hoping to get the 10, but those will be 24s and be months from now, I may have to get the 6spd.....which, the engine won't be getting the bump in power, so it would be okay....it seems most also don't like the idea of a 10 in the ford, even though the 10 is the gm will be the allison....so as long as the 6 spd is good, I'd feel the 10 would be even better. The 6.8 will drop mid between April and mid 23. See if I can at least drive one of those.
I have a 2020 250 w/godzilla. I loaded 5 yards of wet sand in a 14,000 pound dump trailer. It broke the trailer spring and ground the tire into the trailer. I drove 80 miles and could not tell the trailer was behind me. I ordered the new 2023 F-250 w/godzilla and it should be delivered in a few weeks. I cant wait.
4:30 gears match up with the 7.3L. Also watch out with letting the motor idle for long periods. Ford put in a variable pressure oil pump that drops to 6psi at idle and doesn’t get oil up to the lifters very well if at all.
The engine sounds great to me. It's everything bolted to it (IE: ford) that stops me from buying it to be honest. I won't dump all over your truck as that's a little in poor taste but looking forward to calm and honest towing reviews. It's still in the running for me for my next truck. If you test the GM 6.6 I'd wait till you can get the 2024 with the 10 speed transmission, the current 6.6 gasser is mated to a 6 speed and it's no comparison in power to the 7.3 with 10 speed.
the lifter and cam failure is FAR MORE prevalent and common in the 6.4 hemis. at the same interval almost across the board (within 20,000miles) The delamination of the cam and lifter in the 7.3 is effecting rpoughly 2% of vehicles and of that 2%, 90% is high idle hour vehicles like box trucks, campers, service vehicles
I have a 21 f-350 i change my oil every 3000 miles but my owners manual says to change it every 10000 miles I’m wondering if that might be why the engine is having issues it’s just a question I’ve had no issues at all with this engine right now I’m averaging 14.4 miles to the gallon
Is what it is , 7.3 gas is fine towing occasionally. 6.7 diesel for towing on daily basis. I tow daily with 6.7 trade in before 100k miles. Stay in powertrain warranty. Diesel is expensive to repair
For pulling your camper, the 7.3 should do well. It's when you pull a trailer daily that you need a diesel. Or pulling more weight. I have had both big gas engines and diesel engines. If you are like me and keep a truck for a long time the diesel is the way to go. The diesel will still be running when the rest of the truck has fallen off.
dont listen to the nay sayers. I wish people would make their own decisions based on actual experience instead of watching videos and making decisions. I love my 7.3 and it tows as fast as you should be towing. People that need more power are doing things they shouldn't. Enjoy the truck and make some camping memories.
People are just telling you, you are buying a lotto ticket when you buy a ford. Most the time you loose. Mostly money hand over fist. But the front deathwabble can be dangerous. With the potential to kill a family member.
Whoever says the 7.3 can't tow has rocks in their heads. I've pulled upto 18,000 with my 2013 6.2 with 3.73 gears no issue. Was a lil grumpy starting from a dead stop but did it no prob.
I guess the next vids are...airbags? We pull a GD Imagine 24mpr toy hauler, has a 10' garage incorporating a bunk system that is closed off with a sliding glass door to the bath, kitchen and Murphy bed. DW 6500, hitch 800, carries 4000. The 22 f250 w3000 payload has no butt dragging going on...we do a 10k equalizer. It pulls great but will add a sway bar soon.
I've only put bags on the ford dually I had. I like the timbrens and if I needed even more I'd just do the timbren severe service, they are about 30 bucks more
I swear I’ve heard you mention it, but do you have the 3.55 gears? I’ve really appreciated your reviews! I’m heavily looking at getting a SD with the 7.3. I currently own a 2011 GMC 2500 with the Duramax. 112k on it, still going strong, but the CP4 has me nervous now that it’s out of warranty!
I do have the 3.55 and that's just how it was built for the lot. That being said, I like better mpgs so I'd only go with the 3.73s not the 4.30. But i like my 3.55s. Just because I don't pull that much that often. I ordered my last two powerstrokes with 3.31s and most would completely scoff at it. They pulled just fine, but when not pulling i had the best opportunity for better mpgs. For 23, the tow ratings went up all across the board with each rear ratio and engine. I did a video on it. My dad's lml 2011 Sierra is rated just above my gasser, which says a lot where gas engines are now. Ever since ulsd the pumps can't get enough lubrication, and the pumps have problems already. My son is a master diesel mechanic and those pumps are insane to replace and costly, but, probably cheaper than a new truck. He sees them multiple times a week to be replaced. I appreciate you being here and watching.
@@automotiveinquiries9673 thanks for the reply! I’ve got my eye on a couple different 7.3L right now around here in California. I just found a Lariat F-250 standard bed with the 3.55, another F-350 LB Crew w/3.73. Probably gonna make a move on one of those two…just gonna come down between the Standard and LB.
I conventional tow 16k during my work season with my 22’ 6.7 ps. I can barely tell I’m pulling load and I’m getting 15mpg. Godzilla is ok at best. It gets the job done but won’t win any races, lol
I have a 2021 E350 with the 6 speed transmission and 4.56 gears. It's a converted rv that gets 11.4 mpg most of the time. I love the performance in the mountains.
You’re just too cool for me. I could only watch 4 minutes of your coolness telling me what other people told you about your truck. How about your first hand opinion on the vehicle? Doubt you ever got around to it, I’ll never know.
Appreciate you stopping by, yep took this and the chevy over the plains, over the Ike and eventually the wolf. Never thought of myself as cool, but Appreciate that. At the end of the day, half of what I had to do is dispell the myths if gas trucks. So yes background is important, what people say. Otherwise I would be just another person doing the same stuff as everyone else. I have fun with my videos, it's unfiltered and un edited. Put my own money and trucks on the line. The ford engine blew at 6k miles....and towed fine...the chevy 12k miles not a problem and ended up crushing the ford in every aspect in all three tow tests. I'm not some massive channel that uses someone else's truck or car for ten minutes for free. I invested in my channel and gave great data. People want the wham bam thank you mam...that's other channels like t f l....gimmicks and fake... But that is today's world people with 6 second attention span, wanting everything their way and fast, and then still complain. Godspeed.
I have a 250 7.3. Tow a 10k travel trailer. She doesn’t break a sweat. I don’t think I’d want to go crazy heavy but for what I do it’s more than enough. I’ve towers 1000’s of miles. From mass to Florida. Can’t be happier
My youngest brother has a F-250 with a Godzilla in it and pulls a 40 ft. Gooseneck flatbed with 19 ,1000 lb. round bales all the time without a problem. Runs 70-75 mph with no strain.
Yep, my 6.7 cummins, 6.7 scorpion and 6.6 lml created enough powered to tow ar any speed. Although the 7.3 godzilla did just as well at towing at speed, but it does take a little more work, not overworked. But that will always be the case, diesels are tow kings, but the new gassers, can eat at the table now with em.
The 7.3 is being pushed by Ford because they have bet the Superduty truck line on it. The best towing and hauling engines are the diesels, hands-down. It's the EPA requirements that are driving it, too. Thus, the production of diesels being limited to F350 and heavier for the most part and then for only about 35% of total production. The 7.3 mpg is less than the diesels, power is lower, range between fill-up is less, and mountain towing and hauling will have mpg into single digits. For campers and those who don't really NEED max towing and hauling, F250 and 7.3 are fine. I will stay with my F350 dually diesel, Crew Cab, and enjoy my 21mpg hwy empty and 17-18mpg towing and hauling on any grade.
@ryangreen9501 You just tried to equate apples and oranges. My '03 F350 Lariat, 6.0, 5R110, 4x2, Crew Cab, Dually, long bed isn't strangled like a 6.7 w/DPF and DEF systems. There are many reasons for the resurgence of the 6.0 over the 6.4 and 6.7, and mpg is one of the top 3 as is the absence of those expensive to maintain or replace systems. The energy density will always allow diesel engines of equal displacement to gasoline engines to be more efficient AND powerful. The mpg I get from my 6.0 is in line with that by other 6.0 owners who don't overboost and "hotrod" their rigs. The new 7.3 "Godzilla" gas engine is good for the purposes of most people buying trucks as they aren't generally working them every day. They are already breaking and showing flaws when they are. Ford has never produced a quality, durable diesel engine, but neither has Dodge. The GM Duramax is the product of ISUZU and was "stolen" from them when they were partially owned by GM. Prior to that, GM didn't produce decent diesel engines for medium and light duty either. I had great hopes for the 7.3, but, once again, Ford disappoints.
Where I work , we have a fleet of f450 w/7.3 in em. Mine is a 2022 some are a few years earlier. Of 8 of them 3 blew up under 20k. Time will tell .... mine has absolutely no get up and go. Better not pull out in front of anyone under a 1/4 mile . Comfy yes , but it's a dog, out of the hole . Might be the extra 13k lbs on the back , boom ,toolboxes.
This will depend on what you are towing and how often. Most 250 and 2500 are garbage. Mine as well get 1ton for payload. But I enjoy my 7.3 due to maintenance cost. I would get a 450 next time.
No, egr, no dpf, no def, no expensive ass injectors, no turbos and none of the massive price tags associated with it when they go. And they will go. Only penalty is it likes gas like i like beer
I have a 2021 F250 7.3 with 4.30 gears just turned 50,000 miles I pull 8000 to 12000lbs weekly no problems love this engine!
Thank you for stating what gears you have for towing. Most people leave that out
@@gregorylyon1004 same weekly heavy tower with the f250 godzilla. It's a monster. 60k no problems!
Right on thanks for posting
Just drove a 22’ brand new 7.3l “dogzilla” and it was a total sled. I’d avoid this toilet at all costs. Dealer was offering me 2k off from the rip, yet somehow the 6.7 diesel is still 10k mark up! 😂 screw ford.
@@mdubz101 Definitely not a dog.
I have a f-250 tremor with the 7.3 430 gear ratio. I pull a 35ft 5th wheel camper that weights 15,500lbs with no problems. Never had a diesel, so the 7.3 pulls perfectly for me. I love this truck couldn't ask for better.
I’ve never had a diesel either. Will be hard to justify one when today’s gas trucks are capable up to 20k.
Same here, I have zero complaints with that motor. I'm pulling 42' 5th wheel at 16,000 lbs (F350)
Heck yeah!
Thanks for an honest and accurate assessment. I own a 2022 F350 7.3 with a 4:30 gear and am well pleased after 9 months.
Absolutely I appreciate you posting.
I have a 2022 F350 super crew 7.3 and I pull 15000lb fifth wheel and it pulls like a dream!
I have a Power stroke and a Godzilla. My Godzilla is my daily driver and tow vehicle of choice. Another big plus is the motor is not hidden under all the EPA garbage that causes most of the diesel headaches.
Absolutely 💯...!
Delete . Problem solved. Weld on the original exhaust tip for OEM look, put a muffler and it's quiet, leave the egr for esthetics 😂, leave the def fluid cap for remembrance 😆. Put a stock tune for no black smoke 🤓.

60k on mine and no issues at all. The 10speed is matched perfect with this engine in tow haul mode.
Absolutely 💯!
I’ve had multiple 6.7s and never seen 24 mpg.
Heck yeah, thanks for posting!
Absolutely 💯
You may change your mind after you get over the Rockies
Thank you for a real world review not just repeating rumors!
That's a bummer, but glad it worked out and you are enjoying it.
I wanted to use it to tow skid steer too but dont want the diesel emissions crap
Heck yeah! Thanks for posting, I get the coffee thing too!
i have a 2020, I love mine too. pull my 28ft trailer with a 5055JD on it all the time, has plenty of get up and go! no problems at all. i had a diesel, i traded it for this. diesel is to expensive :) loved it too. but this a grate alternative to High Diesel prices.
@@JD.307 yep, HP is calculated, torque is measured!
my 2021 f350 with 3.73 gears and the 7.3 is doing great, run it as a hotshot truck and now have 150 thousand miles on it, no problems but number two cylinder plug wire. im pulling 14 to 18 thousand pounds getting 9 to 11 mpg with it. in the rockys or a big head wind 7.5 to 9 mpg i also have different tires on it to help with mpg. been great truck
@@gregamoreno1 they have finally upgraded the plug wires, now the superduty gets the same wires as the f450 and up. i put a house hold mini split in my truck with now 600 amp hours of lithium to run it, no more idling for me
I’ve got that engine in my 2020 coach. Just turned 60k. Never had a single issue, been solid.
Excellent, thanks for posting.
Be interesting to see if your 7.3 breaks before 100k...
@@jeffro582 it will 👍
Like I mentioned to you earlier when I purchased my truck over last weekend. I test drove the Godzilla in the F350 but it was just xl (work truck) but it got the bug out of my system. I think it is a good engine. It kind of reminds me of my old 460 but the main difference is it revs really high but other then that it is night and day over the ford 6.2
But I am still really pleased with my purchase (keep in mind only bought diesel because they gave me 15k off and no mark up, not because I didn’t like the Godzilla) 22 f350 xlt crew cab long bed 6.7 powerstroke and so far I love that 48 gallon tank. I am really enjoying your videos because I do really want to buy a couple 350 regular cab Godzilla for my construction company. Keep the videos coming 👍🏻
Heck yeah, congrats on the new rig!

I have a 21 F350 Lariat crew 4x SB SRW 7.3L. We tow a 7k# 30’ bumper pull trailer. We’re pleased, 26k miles on engine, no issues.
That's awesome, thanks for posting!
I got 4.30 gears ⚙️ in my 2021 F-350 . It has pulled anything I’ve thrown at it & laughs 😂
A lot of people are complaining about towing problems. They weren't smart enough to get the 4:30 gears. They probably got the 3:55 for gas mileage. Lol
@Gregory Lyon with 10 gears in the trans you should not need to go that deep in gears.
Do you have the 3.73, or 4.30 axle ratio?
3.73

My local dealer has an F350 with that 7.3 engine. I’m very close to buying it. It’s a nice looking truck.
I have a 2021 Class C RV with the 7.3 with 4.10s. I flat tow my Jeep and have no problems whatsoever. Couldn’t be happier.
Thanks for the update- towing
That's sweet! Thanks for posting!
I BOUGHT MINE IN MARCH 2020. ONE OF THE FIRST ONES ON THE STREET. I also tow a 5thwheel. Handles great towing. No issues so far. 435 hp almost the same a diesel...less torque
Got a 2022 250 with the 7.3 and it drives and pulls ( 12000lbs ) with no issues, couldn’t be more pleased after 9 months
I’ve got a ‘22 tremor (4.30 rear with 35” tires) f250 with the 7.3 and it pulls my 8,000 ish pound trailer great almost every weekend.
Haters will hate. Diesel does have more power but it comes at a mighty high cost these days!
Replaced my engine at 30k due to lifter issue. Love the truck just hope it doesn’t do it again. Ford warrantied it thankfully.
Also, ford isn’t the only ones with this problem. Dodge 6.4’s are doing it as well.
Who knows..maybe some of the lifters have COVID…😂

I think the best way to separate the differences is plowing snow. The Diesel has the torque, HP, for doing real work.
Awesome, congrats on the new rig..thanks for posting
4:30 gears match up with the 7.3L. Also watch out with letting the motor idle for long periods. Ford put in a variable pressure oil pump that drops to 6psi at idle and doesn’t get oil up to the lifters very well if at all.
I wonder if what you said about the oil pressure is why the cam and lifters are having problems now that you brought that up.
You guys should try to use Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer
I have been curious about the 7.3 gas and how it performs. I have a 2002 f250 four door v10 4x4 and it's a beast
Yes, if you like the v10, you wouldn't be disappointed at all with the 7.3!
@@automotiveinquiries9673 I appreciate the feedback
2022 f450 7.3G 488 gear is a beast.
Great point!
the lifter and cam failure is FAR MORE prevalent and common in the 6.4 hemis. at the same interval almost across the board (within 20,000miles) The delamination of the cam and lifter in the 7.3 is effecting rpoughly 2% of vehicles and of that 2%, 90% is high idle hour vehicles like box trucks, campers, service vehicles
I have a 21 f-350 i change my oil every 3000 miles but my owners manual says to change it every 10000 miles I’m wondering if that might be why the engine is having issues it’s just a question I’ve had no issues at all with this engine right now I’m averaging 14.4 miles to the gallon
Just like the 3.5 ecoboost. People were ready to right off this engine. I'll put my 3.5 against any v8 in towing!!! Good choice love the 7.3.
Is what it is , 7.3 gas is fine towing occasionally. 6.7 diesel for towing on daily basis. I tow daily with 6.7 trade in before 100k miles. Stay in powertrain warranty. Diesel is expensive to repair
I have a 22 model and I really like it
For pulling your camper, the 7.3 should do well. It's when you pull a trailer daily that you need a diesel. Or pulling more weight. I have had both big gas engines and diesel engines. If you are like me and keep a truck for a long time the diesel is the way to go. The diesel will still be running when the rest of the truck has fallen off.
Absolutely 💯
You mean the OLD diesels...
I want a 7.3 in the F150 or Ranger, Bronco, anything they can fit it in. Oh boy just think of the fun.
dont listen to the nay sayers.
I like the timbrens and if I needed even more I'd just do the timbren severe service, they are about 30 bucks more
I have a 7.3l f600. Pulls my 22k gvw just fine. Gets 12 on the highway 10 full.
@@keithscott4342 awesome...keep.us posted what you get....have fun!
are there any brand new motors that didn't come from another family , without issue ? i'd always wait for the second generation
I have a 07' chevy 2500 classic 6.0 with 224k. It has a E85 tune and I tow 6500# daily. It's paid for..it gets 10 mpg.
Long bed 350 godzillla sounds like the best one
apparently the lifter failures have been almost all on the commercial trucks. Not sure why.
Mine tows well but it has towing gears also.
'Its going to frag its-self' love it.
I conventional tow 16k during my work season with my 22’ 6.7 ps. I can barely tell I’m pulling load and I’m getting 15mpg. Godzilla is ok at best. It gets the job done but won’t win any races, lol
15 towing 16k. Hmmm..
I have a 2021 E350 with the 6 speed transmission and 4.56 gears.
It's a converted rv that gets 11.4 mpg most of the time.
I love the performance in the mountains.
My 2022 f350 Termor tow's my 5th wheel just fine! 31 ft three slides!
That is some heavy work for any truck, and pretty awesome. Thanks for posting that!
Good stuff...
My 6.7 tows straight up at 80mph…… no problem
Yep, my 6.7 cummins, 6.7 scorpion and 6.6 lml created enough powered to tow ar any speed. Although the 7.3 godzilla did just as well at towing at speed, but it does take a little more work, not overworked. But that will always be the case, diesels are tow kings, but the new gassers, can eat at the table now with em.
Those shades are epic
I find this hard to believe… I’ve had 3 6.7s none of which got this mpg, especially my dually…(14 mpg average empty or towing for that one)
I have a 2020 F450 W/ 7.3. 12 ft utility bed. weighs 10,500 loaded with tools. 55K miles - no issues except an exhaust leak. That's a non issue here.
People said the same thing about the 6.8 V10 i got in my Excursion... they were wrong
7.3 is a great engine. If you’re getting a truck for towing, obviously go for the desiel.
What the hell else are you getting a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup for? Going to get your morning coffee and a trip to the office?
This will depend on what you are towing and how often. Most 250 and 2500 are garbage. Mine as well get 1ton for payload. But I enjoy my 7.3 due to maintenance cost. I would get a 450 next time.
