In most african countries and India less than 30% of people live in cities, while in Europe, US and Japan, that figure is around 80%, in asia pacific it's around 50-60%. Most city growth comes from migration from rural areas, not from birth rate (as birth rate in cities is FAR lower then in rural areas). So countries with lowest share of people living in cities will have faster growing cities, even though average birth rate might not suggest that. In almost every large city in the world population growth is solely due to migration, birth rate being lower than 2 per family.

A lot of these "cities" are actually a collection of a bunch of smaller cities merged to create one contiguous urban area. Tokyo and Cairo are great examples of an amalgamation of smaller cities brought together to create one megalopolis.
I suppose if you like nuclear charged food, large crowds, extremely high cost of living, no space, stick rules, harsh punishments, no right to carry, then enjoy! But, the parks are nice!
Actually Shanghai's population is only boosted by migration. The population of locals is actually decreasing rapidly. The total fertility rate of Shanghai is only 0.74.
I think that's partly due to the fact that they've both been "big" cities for much longer than those on the rest of the list (except Cairo). The rest of the cities are on countries that only stared industrializing very recently, and have been otherwise majority rural countries. So of course they are decades behind in terms of developing their infrastructure to appropriately for the population boom of the last two decades.
Sao Paulo is a favela. It's a shantytown. Sao Paulo is note more than a slum area, and not a city. Only a few newcomer idiots who find the city modern, but it's nothing but a filthy slum. It is among the 10 ugliest cities in the world. Unemployment is mass, that is, if you come to this filthy city, you will spend your money, but you will never have a chance of employment. All that there is in this city is violence, unemployment, slums, poverty, excess of disqualified people and extremely violent, a real shit hole.
Sao Paulo is not a favela you idiot. Currently the population of Sao Paulo is of about 12.10 Million. About 11% of the population live in favelas which is a lot but doesn't mean that the entire city is a slum area. Furthermore the space is packed together so meaning that only small parts of the city is occupied by favelas.
carlos Golveia Sao Paulo is a great city, you idiot! It sure has a lot of issues but it’s still the most important city in Brazil’s economy, the city is really prospering and it can be a great place to live in. They still have a lot of room for improvement but it’s still better than many other big cities around the world.
Sure, Asia’s increase in population will play a major role in their upcoming growth in power and economics. But the amount of overcrowding and decrease in overall quality of life overshadows the plus of having a large population. So hey, good luck over there.
Tokyo, Beijing and Shanghai are the most developed in the list, Mexico City still has many problems and is far behind but is still much more developed than Mumbai and Dheli

In Indonesia more people already live in cities compared to for example Nigeria, Pakistan and India, so less people migrate to cities. Especially on Java already such a large portion of the population lives in the city, that there's relatively not much people who can move to the city.
While the population growth rate is low, jakarta is still projected to have 50 mil population...
Im just glad Jakarta wasnt included

A lot of these "cities" are actually a collection of a bunch of smaller cities merged to create one contiguous urban area. Tokyo and Cairo are great examples of an amalgamation of smaller cities brought together to create one megalopolis.
yes. megalopolitan areas rather than just independent cities.
You are right. Tokyo is a special city, the city itself has around 8 million population. People generally lacks information about Tokyo.

Tokyo and Mexico City seem to be the only cities doing well in population growth matter, (and probably Shanghai too, but I find it hard to believe).

Very interesting video👍. Though Sao Paulo would have been there.

And Helsinki didn't host until.1952. That 12-year delay was also because of obvious reasons.

Dominance in what? The market for poverty and overpopulation? Or the market for lack of basic human rights and living standards?
not a single European city...... definitely shows quality vs quantity.
i don't want to criticize but its truth.
Sure, Asia’s increase in population will play a major role in their upcoming growth in power and economics. But the amount of overcrowding and decrease in overall quality of life overshadows the plus of having a large population. So hey, good luck over there.
