Benny makes this stuff look like a walk in the park. Please consider the risk factors and talk to a qualified mechanic, as well as a psychologist, if you’re thinking of attempting anything you’ve seen on the show.
Take into consideration your safety, the safety of others, as well as your vehicle’s best interests- warranty, etc.

Mmmmm, cresta. I have no idea why, but i can't get enough of this thing. It's just so good and so abnormal. Even 2 years on, the story of this car makes me instantly pay attention to it.
Known history.
I saw one going down the highway (in the states) and had to take a photo or two, and double check it wasn't Benny.
I had a USA Cressida in high school in 95 lol...they were quick stock for what it was. My grandpa bought it new. Power everything on it.
I just came here to see what level of wear something like drag week has put on that tortured barra. The car has achieved a lot, it's solid.
Omar seems like a cool dude, great you got him involved in the video.
Absolutely love engine archaeology. Thanks for showing the whole breakdown. Fascinating to see the little things that affect the engine after all its been through.
After watching this vid and seeing how that Barra held up, it makes you proud to be Australian. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 Barra The World.
Hahahahaha
"Intech the world" just doesn't have the same ring to it.
Great tip for keeping the trans off the ground, thanks Benny 😁
Bonus for the autos, keeps the torque converter from falling out too.
Omar at Empire has been playing around with 6cylinder ford falcon engines since the 90s he really knows his way around them from the single cam to the Barra
Noting the Hughes Performance shirt and recalling how Alan mentioned an upcoming project involving them. Mechanical Stig + Turbo Yoda = Automotive Awesomeness.
Cleetus McFarland's wrecker engine builds: last 2-3 passes before losing oil pressure and eating their bearings.
Benny's wrecker engine build: lasts countless passes and still isn't in bad shape.
I rest my case.
Not really accurate comparisons. Cleetus pushed it beyond what you could reasonably expect, also a bit of inexperience there. Benny just didn't push it that hard.
Had no idea there were no exotic modifications done. That is really impressive.
Yep, basic stocker.
@@wobblysauce yeah basically stock i mean it's only got rods, psitons, valve springs, head studs, main studs, girdle, hd timing chain and oil pump gears.... yeah so stock as a rock
Well, he didn't say he got it from a million km Taxi now.
@@SomervilleMetalWorks To be fair thats a pretty basic build, just improving some weak points of the factory engine, not like its an all out build with head work, different stroke etc
Love the Cresta. Another great video and great Guest Expert. Keep up the awesome job. Kudos to the editor with all the number plates fogging.
Line pressure to high on the trans pushes the converter out and overloads the thrust bearing. Is a known fault with a glide and the turbo boxes behind big power v8s
Ttthhuuurrrrpp v8 2 cylinders to many i6 for ever
Torque and rpm don’t care how many cylinders.
@@mongreluc1588 I understood what you were talking about, sadly these days you need to talk slowly and explain everything in finite detail.
Thanks Benny! Love you long time!
Great Video Benny, I hope we see more of Omar in future vids
Although Omar wanted to say a few things and Benny kept going over the top... But the channel will get there!
Omar is a straight G. wtf he ain't got his own youtube channel, I'd watch that hektic accent daily.
Very nice tip on supporting the trans while the engine is out. I've never seen that before.
I love it when you take a moment to explain small tricks like the jackstand on the trans :D
Draining coolant from the block. Get a old style radiator drain valve, the kind with a 1/4" pipe thread on one end and a wing on the other. Press in a short piece of 1/4" brake tubing to the wing side. This way a piece of vacuum hose can be slipped over the tubing and the other end into a pan. For blocking radiator hoses, use what we call a " Fernco " rubber plumbing cap.
That jackstand trick is awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Lube yer alternator with coolant for extra amps.
Yea she'll be rooted in a yr
Does nobody else use a shop vac to remove rogue coolant from hoses & blocks?
Takes far less time than getting a bucket of oil dry & mop. Best part is no slick shit on your hands that never dries.
Gotta love that censored handshake at the end 👌
11:20 *insert Marty "HEADGAAAAAAASKET" Sound effect*
Love the story of the Cresta, keep it up mate!
Did someone say IS 200 with a Barra swap?
Now that's a great idea
Great video Benny, the Cresta is an epic journey and one that many of us watching have followed since the Mighty Car Mods build. The Cresta is becoming an iconic car that has many hours of work invested in it. It would be great to see Omar again, it would be great to hear his thoughts on the Barra engine in greater detail.
thanks for the tip Benny ...simple but very effective 👍👏👏
hi, while you don't need cams to make the power, once you have all the rest figured out as you have, it really gives a big raise in performance without changing any other hardware
Your content has really improved dude. That’s heaps
Benny is just a beast.
Awesome stuff, thanks for the video Benny, keep the Barra stuff coming!
Nothing evil about a barra powered drift wagon. Only awesomeness.
We sometimes complain why other countries have the awesome products and we don't. Glad we have the barra and the rest of the world doesn't.
Nihal Shroff what does the UK have, though?! America has the LS, Aus has the Barra, what cheap, tough, big power engine does the UK get?! 😩
@@MillerCorner Rolls Royce Merlin, though admittedly a packaging challenge....and erm... well, not that cheap.
Probably the old rover v8 was something used quite a lot, now I don't have much of an idea.
@@Looptydude Yep, indeed quite popular and cheap, but originally a Buick block, so erm...
Jaguar XK6, DOHC I6, 2.4 to 4.2 litre had a 43 year run.Produced some really impressive power figures for its time, 250 hp in 1948.
Love the vapourwave vibes
Hey what's happening with the VH41 Stagea ?
Ian Swinkels got a reply via FB messenger to this very question a week or two ago. YT won’t let me upload a screen shot but there’s a video shot, just needs uploading. Epic build eh?
@@chrisparish9145 Yeah I want to see more. Hopefully he has rods, pistons and a decent head gasket setup in that engine soon.
for a wrecker engine benny looks like you and the guys workrd wonders with it, 9 sec car down the drag, be proud bud
You have got to love a removable radiator support panel
Adam O'Connor yeah we made that during the OG build with Mighty Car Mods .
Great episode have loved this car for ages and love your knowledge on all this stuff, just that music is a little in the face I know you will never satisfy everyone but a suggestion is a website called artlist, I use it at uni for audio engineering it is subscription based but you get licences to use the music for what ever and it is cheap on there and it is top quality stuff.
I actually one day randomly saw the cresty that the MCM put a barra into, followed it and took some pictures :D
Haven't watched the vid. But just wanted to say this man is a legend.
Ow my ears 😖 love the cresta tho 👌
Benny can we see the torrington bearing installed. Does it replace the 360 thrust bearing mod?
while you are down there can you make a quick video on that Ford Territory
Keen to see more on territory's
Great to see how the Barra has held up after all that punishment. Best Ford Motor ever .
I don’t know what it is but I need more of your show’s !!!!
Lolz dcs
trent adams Haa if you didn’t say anything I meant shows haaaaa
Hahaha i thought i found another sneaker head.. thats gold
Great vid, but the wobbly music drove me nuts. The BARRA is awesome, thinking about putting one in my AU Fairmont (yeah I know , but I like it) because the rear welch plug let go.
Moog is killing it on the soundtrack! Benny, good work on the car and the channel! Nice work mates!
Awesome apart from the music, that made me feel like my hearing was going! WHAT!
Love this car, love these engines. I wasn't aware that the Turbo cars (from factory) had a different cam spec.
hoping you can show more info on the torrington bearing mod
good episode, looking forward to the next one!
Great video!
I'm on the wagon... Great videos to watch but the music is off putting... But Omars shop looks amazing with all the fords... But what was the blown beast in the background
Now that was an enjoyable episode to watch.
I wish all the buggers on fordxr6turbo forums would watch this and stop over complicating their answers just to justify their big spendings! So much bad advice out there that’s costing kids thousands extra than they actually need. You don’t need expensive cams and there are other brands out there, OTHER than Plazmaman!!! Great realistic review Benny. Love it 👍
If you want to make a lot of power, safely... You need to spend that extra money. Now if they just want 700hp or so? Sure this is great advice, but more than that and you need to do a lot more work to the engines to keep them reliable.
Omar goes alright. He be the Barra YoDA
Something about the Ford Australia long stroke 6's, even the earlier crossflow examples could be made to scream way harder than factory especially adding Fuel injection and later parts. Seems the Barra got it all the way home.
Luv automotive CSI Omar is a awesome bloke his knowledge of Barra engines must be helpful your channel is awesome Benny
Btw should let you know all Barras from the BF onward (turbo and n/a) have the same cams, they never had to change them!
Someone needs to start a business exporting the Barra to the States. We need this engine and I wish Ford would give it to us as a crate motor here.
If it was Giraffe tuned, you'd have been on your 5th engine already...
🤣
No bald eagles here. 😂
Turning giraffe wishes he had a barra for the vic
thankfully its not an LS!!
@@tballz1988 i still think that GT500 engine in the Vic is solid as with the amount of abuse it gets handed
The half thrust bearings started at AU intech.
Love your work Benny, well done to all involved 👍
I keep coming back for the song
No idea why. Cant get enough of the Cresta.
This was an awesome video 👌
Usto work for Duncan and foster on deadmans road. Omars shop was next to ours. Dude knows his stuff always had cool cars at his shop
Great vid. Back to the good stuff. 👌
I wish we got the Barra instead of the 4.6 mod here in the States. People will defend those boat anchors till they're blue in the face. Straight 6 4valves are less complicated and they can make way more power.
Benny, i know some of its straight forward, but you should have mentioned about draining all fluids, mentioned about the clamp style used and how it made it easy to remove stuff, and why you used a paint marker
Love it. Needs voice over to make it better. IMO.
Great video. WTH is with the soundtrack? Really unstable Freq, sounds like a binding tape playback.
Unfortunately i fear that was intentional.. I guess aweful 80's tape warble is retro and "cool" now... ugh/
It's a Moog special I'd say
@@mikeymasi Yea, don't need to use that button on your music thingie again moog.
Hey Benny your trending on apple news showing a pic of the Cressida and the Barra engine
james borst thanks for letting us know :)
Not bad, 2 seconds in not bad, good size
If a goobered up thrust bearing is the most damage you found after that absolutely horrifying abuse you put that poor engine through, that is a win and another win! Good job, boys!
That engine was so clean!
Excellent episode 👍🏻
love the cresta keep it up benny were all hanging for updates lol
Dammit Jim, I'm a mechanic, not a tuner!
Live long and prosper
Loving the videos Ben, keep it up
Has that converter been ballooning.?
Loving the videos Benny!
Great series Benny! Moog's playing around with some Vaporwave then? cool vibe, goes well with the video.
was among the first 20 or so to subMCM now subbed here too, g'day benny you evil genius
You account was made in 2013, why lie
You account was made in 2013, why lie
Lookin good.
Only 30 seconds in and I can already tell I'm going to enjoy this video :D
Cresta time!
Humble mechanics are the best !
Barra is life
Great episode but the theme music seemed kind of whacked.
Yeah I agree the music during the tear down was kinda annoying.
Not gonna go with bigger cams at all? Get it breathing a little better. Will you restall the converter a little higher?
Never have i ever worked on a barra engine ,but thinks from what i've seen ,thrust may be tranferred from gear box,as there is nothing to load thrust on engine, unless pistons are not square to crank shaft,,By this i mean wrist pins are slighty out of square to crank,,the only other reason,,i can think of,,
I was under the impression that the single cam engines got a 360 deg thrust bearing from the factory but the aftermarket stuff like ACL only comes with 180 deg. Guess I will find out when I tear mine down
Great video the music was not of choice but good video nonetheless
Good Barra tear down vid. Not many indepth on the old tube.
Nice work Benny - please give some more boosts!
i wish we where allowed to mod cars like that here in the netherlands i was born in australia would love to have a barra engine in a car here
Man this is so sick. Epic to see other aussies holding our own in the car scene. Yewwww
a handshake so good they had to blur it out
12:00 that is some wonky ass music. Love it!
love the vids the music is terrible though man
Sportsbet are running a tote on what time the new engine will run. I'm at 8.20
When he said "Throw it in my Falcon" did everyone else think that this engine was going in the ute and a new engine going in the Cresta?
Barra Power... Love it!!!...
