The BD2W is the drive pedal. It doesn't matter if your creating drive or boosting your amp, it gets the job done, and adds something you will never get out of a tube screamer. Asymmetrical clipping. Love it.
I tried so many drive pedals before finding this and instantly fell in love. Anyone have suggestions for what to pair with it? I have an ep booster and an optimist (klon like) going into an AC and blackface style two amp setup.
Truthfully, unless your playing metal this is probably the best OD you can use imo. Works great with clean to dirty amps doesn't really matter and keeps the guitar tone in focus without coloring it. Leon's volume trick is how ya do it mates! Nice examples , Killer blues licks, mad skills dude!
BD2W and a Browne bros Protein gives me everything from almost clean boost to light warm overdrive to heavy rock overdrive all without losing the character of the guitar. A great addition to the pedalboard. Excellent tips on settings and very enjoyable playing throughout. Thanks.
Oh man I just got a marshall jtm 20 (which I absolutely love) and I have the brown protein (which I also love). I have a 1981 pedal that doesn't really mash well with the Marshall. Definitely going to buy a blues driver today.
And to think, people have been shitting on metal zone because of the over-hissing in the highs, but never tried using it as a pre-amp via amp fx loop. Such a beast of a tone. And now I'm discovering how to use this and the hyper fuzz properly. Such animals of tones.
The Waza Metal Zone in the custom mode is an amazing distortion pedal, not just for metal. It’s difficult to dial in, for sure, but it’s worth the effort. I don’t play metal and I love it.
I sold my BD2 when I went digital. I regretted it immediately. I took a year or so to see if I could live without it. I could not, so i got a BD-2w. I feel complete again.
I went digital too witht a Kemper profiler player. I tried for 6 months to like it. The cleaner profiles and the effects sound fabulous. Got the Mr Britt profiles, but I'm sorry all the drives and high Gain sound horribly digital to me. Especially live. I got a marshall jtm 20. And oh my God I'm in heaven.
thank you for showing that there is more than gain at 9 o'clock and full blast that other videos have shown for so many different pedals. very concise with your examples and very well done video. thank you.
I've been going back and forth on whether or not I want a Blues Driver for quite a while. Tones here are great, but I think it was your guitar stank-faces have sold me. Merry Christmas to me! Thanks, Leon!
I tried so many OD pedals before I finally got a Blues Driver. It was like a whole new world of guitar playing for me. Now I play “tasteful” blues. However, my guitar teacher, who’s actually a shred magician is always surprised by the level of filth I like in my sound. The Blues Driver is the perfect pedal for that because of that touch sensitive nature. I set mine going into a pretty cranked (pre amp at 1 o’clock) amp. My BD settings are 10 o’clock on level, 3 o’clock on Gain and 11 o’clock on tone. With that it can stay on and I just ride the guitar volume pot.
So, I've been debating for a few days if I want to get one of these. This video sold me. This pedal really can be used for a "blues-rock" tone. So many reviewers present it as a high gain device, which it can do, but who cares, there are enough of those already. It doesn't hurt of course that Leon Todd is so talented. He really is a remarkable player.
This video just single handedly convinced me that the next drive for my board should be the BD-2 instead of yet another boutique clone that only does one good sound.
What a great demo. Well done! For me, the BD is a pedal I’ve avoided for years because at home I really never liked it. However, I recently picked up a BD-2W and when I tried it with the band at rehearsal I absolutely loved it. What a difference a loud amp makes. This is my current favorite low/medium gain drive pedal. Thanks for the amazing demo. 👍🏻
I just recently came across this video and thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. You’re playing is stellar and the sounds from this pedal are great. Thanks so much.
I like the bd-2 in front of a ds-1 because the Blues Driver in my opinion exactly has the mids the ds-1 is missing especially for a cutting solo sound. For heavy rhythm tones I like the ds-1 as is without the mid push. Most Boss pedals stack quite well to eachother. That is a real bonus.
@@LeviBulger you are right but I was not talking about boosting. Can we agree upon the DS-1 having a mid scoop and the BD-2 „filling“ this scoop with a little more mids? Of course tubescreamers in front of a DS-1 are also great. Just a different flavour.
I love the Waza edition. It's worth the price. What I love about this pedal is it gives you the right kind of boost without getting fuzzy and muddy. Great for blues, jazz, rock, hard rock, and traditional metal. Great demo, as always. Leon really runs the Blues Driver through the gauntlet, and it delivers.
I use an EHX Glove for an always-on "Thing 1", into a BD-2, which I use for "Thing 2". A guitar's volume control is too often left wide open, when a simple overdrive pedal, set just right, can allow it to provide so many tones. Great Doctor Seuss references, by the way!
Awesome demo of what this pedal can do and how to really use an overdrive pedal. Great vibrato you’ve got there, too…almost as good as your stanky grimaces. Great job, thanks.
I just got a BD2 waza super happy with it.. the waza line has subtle tweaks that are pretty cool imo. Thanks so much for the great tips I'll be burning a few hours tonight messing with it 😊😊❤
I bought one when i was twenty and i have it on my pedal board for 17 years... So many good vibes from the bd2! Last year I've bought the waza edition and i am double happy. It's a great sounding pedal but sometimes sounds a little fizzy especially with fender amps like twin or super reverbs. I switch off the brightness and it sounds much better. In general i set the tone between 7 and 8 o'clock and it kinda compensates for the fizzyness
Great demo of a great pedal. I have the Angry Driver version, it kicks my butt into next week. How did they pack so much goodness into a little box? Probably the perfect pedal. That Firebird is tasty too! I remember seeing Joe Bonamassa at the Corner Hotel a few years ago, had a BD on his pedal board, damn, he slayed it, Sloe Gin just brought the house down. From memory I think he only used a single black Les Paul Custom for the whole set. Couldn't have fitted more punters in with a shoe horn! Think it was about $15 to get in there, it was wall to wall, had us all in the palm of his hand from the first note. Good times.
@@LeonTodd Oh hell yeah, he brought the roof down right there. Totally raw and visceral. Never seen anything like it it. And I've seen a lot of bands. Joe just ate us alive.
i have mine 1st- the buffer is good there- the tone is all the way off- level about 9 and gain about 2:30- it is now pretty transparent and simply put no matter the combo of the three od's behind it... when engaged it puts me "on the edge of chaos" where i want to be and the feel is great too- you can't use it alone set this way but the point is it is only to boost you into solo mode
I’ve got 2 of these, I have found the QC to be less than stellar. Both pedals are not the waza mod. I pedal is bright and sharp, the other is more gainy and a bit dark. I’ve used a bunch of these in the last 2-3 years and they all were very different to each other. This is actually my favorite OD pedal.
I have so many overdrive pedals now...but the most trusted one for shows is my old Keely modded Boss BD from hard rock to blues it comfortably gets the job done. Just roll off the volume and it cleans up nicely!
That’s some guitar face 😂! Great demo, the BD-2 kicked the Timmy off my board, finding this more to my liking for a consistent crunch tone into several different clean amps
I bought mine before watching this video, as I really like the way it doesn't color the guitar tone, sort of like my very old TS808 I sold decades ago, which was dumb, lol. The guitar faces are well done also, feel those notes as Eric C. said long ago.
The BD2 I consider nearly essential. No board should not have one. The Waza version even more so. I like dialing it back and stack it in front of my 5150 EVH overdrive but it is spectacular on its own. And great guitar face as well
I use the BD2 in your first setting all of the time. With the SD1 as the over drive. I think the SD1 does a better “creamy” sound while the BD2 bites more like a natural amp breakup.
