Fun fact for anyone who doesn't know yet, all katanas can be power stanced with the Wakazashi dagger, if it's wielded in your offhand, and you can put Parry on it, because it's a dagger. Its short range means you'll usually be hitting enemies with your katana, primarily, but jumping attacks will often hit with both weapons, provided your jump is deep enough. The main draw is being able to power stance with a parry option, something typically exclusive to daggers, thrusting swords or shields.
Meteoric ore blade... Because you can get it at the start, upgrade it to max in a couple hours, and take it to end game... And scumbag invaders always get caught in the weapon art then slashed to death, plus the ash of war hits through walls, above and below you, and downs fliers... Very versatile weapon.
I think you’re sleeping on the Meteoric Ore Blade a bit: Gravitas is actually a pretty good AoW in PvE and PvP as it has solid range (it can hit enemies in any direction within a spherical range), does damage on the initial move, and allows for a follow up move once the enemies are brought close; the blade actually works in tunnels against the miners and similarly hard skinned enemies because it’s made of meteoric rock.
On my 1st playthrough I paired the Uchi with the Naga in the off hand and this little bit of extra range it phenomenal for smaller enemies with lower poise, because even if your or their movement would let them out of range of your uchi, allowing them to recover and start a counter attack, the Naga got your back and keeps them staggered. Allowing you to close the gap again. After finishing NG+ I played double occult Naga. That shit rocks.
Just a couple of things: 1. The Dragonscale just got buffed as you now. The power and the duration of the buff has made it significantly better. 2. The Meteoric Blade really shines in PvP. You use Gravitas to pull in the opponent and depending on the timing, the R2 can roll-catch people extremely well. Add the charged attack physick and the talisman to the mix and it becomes really strong. You may also argue that it's a nice faster option for STR/INT builds since their weapons are generally slow and heavy. 3. Hand of Malenia should obviously be paired with the consecutive attack talismans and the physick to maximize the potency of the Ash of War. It also eats through stamina like nobody's business so you might want to invest in Endurance as well. The Godskin Swaddling Cloth may also be a nice pairing for trading but I'm not actually sure how well it works.
His build is all kinds of fucked up, too. No one who is serious about PvP or about playing past the first journey will stop at 40 Vigor. 40 isn't enough.
I recently did a full platinum playthrough on PS5 and the Medeoric Ore Blade was the weapon I decided to use. My build was to have 66 Strength and as much Intelligence I could put until I stopped leveling up at 165. I then paired it with a cold Uchigtana with the repeating thrust ash of war, I'd buff myself with flame grant me strength and the golden vow ash of war, used the talisman and tear to boost the damage of charged heavy attacks, and I basically destroyed everything in the game. People are seriously sleeping on that weapon.
You ain't kiddin' as much as I use the, moonviel, Rivera, nagakiba, the meteoric seems so be the best and the gravitas isn't bad at all it still does damage and wipes out mobs if fodder enemies, it one shots allot of enemies nevertheless it's my favorite so far and that's having the utchi at plus 21 currently and the other katanas plus 8 and 9 so far and again meteor1 utchi2nd rivers 3 and moovville 4 I don't consider the nagakeba an elemental it's awesome the right up there with utchi
I would personally put Nagakiba at #1 or #2. The extra range is a game changer when it comes to mount combat and certain AoW like Spinning Slash. Spinning Slash itself offers good damage, quick cast and decent stagger (2 casts to knock down a giant for katanas, which is awesome for light weapons) and Naga's range brings it to a whole other level, making it probably one of the best crowd control weapons for Dex/Arcane builds. I did a NG+ with Blood Naga + Spinning Slash and I just didn't even bother using R1.
You're really underestimating Nagakiba mate. With the Blood Blade or Bloody Slash ashes you get 116 blood loss build up stat. Using both Nagakiba with these ashes gives you insane blood loss. Or alternatively you can use Bloodflame Blade on them. Either way - having both Katanas with so much blood loss stats and that range is....well fk... not sure why you'd even think about pairing them with other katanas, maybe except for Malenia's for extra blood loss.
I got the game over the holiday sale, and love it. I've been all about samurai and katanas since I started, and used moonveil for probably about 60- 75 hrs of my so far 160 hr playthru. I just recently got RoB and immediately brought it to +9 & respec'd to use it. It definitely is more of an Gung ho type playstyle, where you have to get fairly close (yes there's range but not a bunch) and I trade hits more often than with moonveil, where it was more careful and wait for the bosses to react first. TL;DR- RoB is fun, but it's more of a reckless playstyle, and I personally prefer Moonveil.
I really want to like Hand of Malenia more, but it's ultimately a letdown. Waterfowl Dance doesn't have anywhere near the speed or range it does when Malenia uses it, and its Sekiro equivalent, Flowing Strikes, just felt faster and better. Ultimately, my favorites are Moonveil because magic damage and Transient Moonlight and Rivers of Blood because fire and bleed damage simultaneously, and yes, Corpse Piler is still great even with its nerfs. Meteoric Ore Blade is also good. Gravitas has limited utility in PvE, sure, but that heavy attack is very good at stance breaking.
Nagakiba looks almost like Sephiroth's Masamune, the blade a bit shorter though. I might mainly use Katanas or dual swords (if there are any like in DS3) whenever I get Elden Ring.
I was extremely fortunate that my wife is more of a magic user and not interested in bleed or dexterity. She gave me her rivers of blood, eleonora's pole blade, nagakiba, hand of malenia, rotten winged sword insignia (i got the millicent prosthesis), scavenger's curved sword, cross naginata, wakizashi, and reduvia. Getting to power stans all of these my fist play threw was amazing lol. It did, however, mess up how i would rate the weapons like nagakiba would be way higher. My top 5 with power stance would be 5) uchigatana ( this gets bumped down sense anything this can do nagakiba can do better for the most part besides higher damage, the higher damage and bleed does make it better for blood flame or seppuku which is how i use them) 4) hand of malenia (best pure dex) 3) nagakiba (best range that comes in handy for so many situations especially odd shaped and sized enemies, also used blood slash to take full advantage of the long rand. 2) rivers of blood (still the best bleed Katana the it comes with blood flame damage which is extremely easy to buff and causes bleed even though on paper it has less bleed then others) 1) moonveil (the range, power and scaling of that skills heavy slash is insane and is a hard counter for malenia if timed right and any weapon that can put her on her ass with one strike deserves respect).
I did an Int/Dex build, dual wield Uchigatana 25+ Cold, with Bloodhound step ash of war on right hand, left hand Moonveil 10+, and Lusat staff 10+, Rannis Hat, Adula Sword, Ranni Dark Moon, Lorettas Bow, Comet, and Comet Azur and Meteor of Astel. Feel invincible.
My 1.09 list: 8. Meteoric ore blade. It’s barely below good, but there’s hardly any uses to it 7. Serpentbone. Good option for a poison build, but a poison infused uchi or nagakiba would be better. 6. Dragonscale. When paired with a fire infused uchi, you can proc and unproc frost which can be seriously deadly. 5. Rivers of blood. It has been nerfed into oblivion. Only does 1200 do 2000 damage on a full ash. 4. Uchigatana. The versatility is absolutely unreal. Pair this with pretty much any other katana and you won’t have to go into ng+ to get a second weapon 3. Nagakiba. Once again, unreal versatility. Incredible range, great all-rounder. Thanks Yura. 2. Hand of Malenia. Has been pretty untouched nerf-wise, but pair this with Millicent’s Prosthesis, rotten winged sword insignia, godskin stitching cloth, and lord of blood’s exultation, and optionally icon shield and Malenia’s great rune, you have an unstoppable regen monster that does 5 to 7 thousand damage per ash. It sounds like a lot of setup, but it’s worth it. Not to mention it’s an absolute beast on its own. 1. Still moonveil. Dominates the pvp, in fact in one of my colosseum fights I got hatemail lol. Has been nerfed pretty bad, but it’s still good. Just pray you don’t come across anyone that can parry.
To be honest I don't really use rivers of blood my favorite build is seppuku, dual nagakiba's and I forgot the talisman name but it increases attack damage with successive attacks
I 100% agrre with you. I absolutly love the moonveil! The rivers of blood might do more dmg, but I find the playstyle to be a bit repetetive. I have a question tho, do you dual wield the moonveil in the new patch (1.07) or do you 2 hand it. And another question. Do you stagger enemies quicker, if you 2 hand it, and use the heavy skill attack? Hope my question makes sense. Awsome video bud 😁 new sub here 👊
I'm dual wielding the moonveil ( right hand and ) with the Rivers of Blood. I"m able to quickly one hand the rivers of blood in case anybody gets too close but both have blood build up and they scale the same aside from intelligence. I'm not to worried about strength scaling since its almost non existent With an E scale rating for the moonveil. I also have the assasin's cerulean dagger, carian filigreed crest, and Lord of Blood's Exultation talismans equipped. Really gives me the best of both worlds in terms being able to build up bleed damage while still holding a high amount of stagger potential. Plus the moonveil will cut through almost all armor with its skill. The fire giant's biggest weakness's are also frost, Blood and magic. Really helps and is a great all around build since vigor shouldn't be over 40 imo unless your a strength build.
@@Anonymous-mg8bu I don’t play PVP with them usually don’t have enough time against actual players to switch plus I recently did a respec and I’m a Int-Dex build with the moonveil and meteoric dual wield.
Moonveil + cold uchi/lusat staff. What's cool is whatever works best for you is best sincerely, but luckily this is an elite dmg one, bc it feels best for me
Dragonscale blade actually carried my low level ass all the way into NG+3 then I paired it with rivers of blood in my left hand, and damn. Ice lightning causes frost buildup and lightning damage, bloodflame causes bleed buildup and fire damage. The fire damage resets the frost status after it activates, and then bleeds your enemies, and then you can frostbite again. It’s a never ending chain of frostbite and blood. Combine that with the mimic tear and demolish any opponent anywhere. It also just unexists Malenia. NG+6 now and I took out Malenia with very near ease. And now I’m addicted to ice lightning. I’ve gotten everything I’ve lightning related, Dragonscale Blade, Dragon Halberd, and ice lightning spear. And yet, I feel like I need more.
at the end of the day, it's a matter of playstyle and hability/skill, but I prefer some other katanas over the moonveil cuz I ain't particular fond of the sorcery in this game. All sorcery seems to be more dmg focused, and since I like to do dmg with the weapon, I like my spells to have some more utility, so I tend to like the RoB more. But yeah...pretty much all the katanas make a decent build, there's no really bad katana per se, you can always build up something around them
After 170 hours, I can say with complete confidence that the Moonveil is the best katana in the game, especially when dual worked with the Nagakiba. Truly unstoppable.
Just as a fun build, nothing meta, for my first playthrough of Elden Ring, I wanna run a katana alongside the Black Bow. Can anyone gimme a recommendation of what the coolest combo would be?
I didn't liked the fact that the best dexterity swords are katanas. But I guess I can't complain, this is the first souls like that gave a huge attention to katanas.
If a weapon has both physical and magic/any other type of damage, does that mean a basic light attack will deal both types of damage, or do I have to activate its skill (like the Dark Moon Greatsword) in order to get that magic damage?
there is a lot of weapons in this game who have a weapon art you have to cast to "buff" the weapon. But in fact, those weapons would be average even if the buff was passive >< ...
Honestly in terms of how fun weapons are compared to how effective they are this list can change a lot! I personally think as of the latest patch the dragonscale blade can go almost to the top just with how good the frostbite debuff is esp if you power stance them. Also i think Moonveil falls off hard late game and just doesn’t perform as well as even Uchigatana or Nagakiba with certain AOW on them.
@@Slaheir also since you’re probably lost and wasting stats on other builds too. ALL lightning weapons scale off dexterity. You can go to blacksmith right now and look at how lightning buff changes your scaling. Frost magic dmg! Scales off intelligence. The only shit scales off arcane is blood poison and sleep. The help explanation in the game will tell you this. But think what you will. Elden ring has a site with this info instead of just guessing 😂
@@stuartmccleary the wiki isn’t always right lol, you realize anybody can edit a wiki post lol. Lightning is usually faith 😂😂😂but for this specific weapon it scales off of your arcane stat to proc the frostbite debuff lol. Does moonveil give a debuff? Hmmmmm, didn’t think so. The guy also doing this video has been wrong before and also doesn’t play to be optimal and even says its about how much fun he has with a weapon. Maybe a few patches ago the dragonscale blade we could say it is trash but the buffs it has gotten plus the stagger and frost makes it very competitive if not one of the top contenders in terms of katanas for endgame content
The only katana I don't have is the dragon scale, however I have the Rivera and moonviel maxed, and I'm a bit underwhelmed I'm level 207 samurai, tbh I really like the meteoric especially in catacombs because it seems to do more damage against stone type enemies especially imps, and yeah the gravitas isn't the best however one thing it's really good for is those annoying tanky enemies that are on the other side of a wall and then you can literally just keep using the gravitas, and their dead and poise locked, can't do shit about it,however I do really like both the rivers and moonville about equally they're really unique and excellent katomas and they are so fun to use against those pest type enemies even the pest itself something that you need to get range on quickly, however I think my favorite so far would have to be the Naga kiba, with blood tax the poking and takkmg health back comes in handy especially in fights like hmm 🤔 Melania trading health,or just taking health is excellent
I scroll through the comments and I see people fighting about which build or weapon is better and I don’t understand why it matters there is no right way to play elden ring find a build you like and stick with it have fun
Someone please help me out with something, is the rivers of blood the best bleed katana now after the buff or is it still the nagakiba with bloodflame?
Nagakiba with Bloodflame Blade and Stormcaller, hands down. Don't bother with arcane scaling if you're using Bloodflame Blade, it doesn't work like that. Keen would be the best affinity to go with. However, if you want to go occult affinity instead (better for PVP, 'cuz who's gonna let you spend that much time buffing, really?) is honestly any katana you can put an ash of war on and make it Barbaric Roar. It changes your heavy attack to a combo that can easily plow through enemy attacks, and provided you're the occult affinity with 80 arcane, you're gonna have high blood loss buildup and raw damage. You can also power stance it with a Wakazashi with Parry on it. The heavy combo from Barbaric Roar can also be strengthened by charging it up and using the Axe Talisman, but it's easy to get hit out of the windup while you're charging.
@@TFGRhinehart I mean I just been using it with bloodflame blade and double slash and I'm pretty sure they gonna get rid of the wind infusing with things in a update probably
Yes im aware this comment is 6 months late but your logic for putting the uchi above the nagakiba is kinda off, if ur at that range where you only hit them with the nagakiba and not whatever shorter katana ur using, then if you were using two shorter katana's in that situation then you just wouldn't hit what you were swinging at and get no damage
I always used to play str/fai builds on previous souls games, I went blindly for int/dex on this run and had a rough time until I noticed moonveil (I already had it but didn't know it) and oh boy carian knight sword became the shittiest thing immediately... (but it kinda fucked with the difficulty, since a lot of enemies became a piece of cake)
I would argue that Katanas are not the best weapons in the game. I'm running around with dual Bleed Butchering Knives and I murder everything. It's honestly easy mode. Coupled with Erdtree Sentinel Armor, Iron Kasa, and the correct Talismans and Bestial Vitality, I'm a murderous tank.
This man played Elden Ring. This man has finished the story more than once. This man knows enough about the game to make videos about it. Calls it 'Blade of Malena' as if she is a minor character.
Yes, very. Deals higher damage than the purely physical katanas against anything that doesn't resist magic much. The ash trivializes 95% of PvE and can oneshot in PvP.
Not really. Poke weapons and Quickstep are king in PvP. And in PvE, curved swords with bleed or Mohg's spear or Black Flame Tornado or Comet Azur or so much more are way more broken.
moonveil you can get pretty early it’s just you’ll need to upgrade to get it too it’s full potential look up a video on how and then try and look to upgrade weapons or summons, weapons use smithing stones weapons with magic use a white smithing stone (i can’t remember the name of it) also I forgot to say look up best summon tier list and try and get a good summon early it can really be a game changer also you can upgrade them with glowwort till level 5 thing you use ghost glowwort the rest of the way I can’t really remember rn but yeah hopefully that helped you bro

Reason with to love the serpent bone blade:
*SH-SH-SHAAAA!*
Did not expect to see a Gerard Whately clip today
at the end of the day, it's a matter of playstyle and hability/skill, but I prefer some other katanas over the moonveil cuz I ain't particular fond of the sorcery in this game.
Should prob ask this on tiktok
@@kingobsidian6941 Wait, Tik Tok?
@@splinter4161 ye cuz tiktok comments r easier to respond to or just look up builds on youtube
@@kingobsidian6941 I didn't realize the community was so active on tik tok! Thank you!
I didn't liked the fact that the best dexterity swords are katanas. But I guess I can't complain, this is the first souls like that gave a huge attention to katanas.
Sekiro: excuse me?
If a weapon has both physical and magic/any other type of damage, does that mean a basic light attack will deal both types of damage, or do I have to activate its skill (like the Dark Moon Greatsword) in order to get that magic damage?
No u don't have to activate the skill.
there is a lot of weapons in this game who have a weapon art you have to cast to "buff" the weapon.
Also i think Moonveil falls off hard late game and just doesn’t perform as well as even Uchigatana or Nagakiba with certain AOW on them.
moonveil scales the best dragonscale is literally trash the higher in game you go cause your buff you put on it doesnt actually scale.
@@stuartmccleary buff scales off arcane for every status so it does still scale lol, get your facts up. Moonveil users 😂😂😂
@@Slaheir no it doesn’t. If you actually listened to the vid here it even states it. It has +130 flat dmg buff this is on the Elden ring wiki site 😂
Is it better to dual wield blades OR two hand a katana
its better using 2 katanas or only one but with two hands?
two katanas
I recommend 2
Lol my first playthrough I did not switch katanas from the Uchigatana the starting weapon and never used the great runes at all till my Curret Ng+.
I scroll through the comments and I see people fighting about which build or weapon is better and I don’t understand why it matters there is no right way to play elden ring find a build you like and stick with it have fun
That cop is the kid who would change the rules once he got out
Been taking a break from these games but im new to elden ring i made samurai ofc just so i could dual weilds the uchi and put blood slash aow on it
Are we not gonna talk ab how that knights Calvary horse turned white?
The Dragon katana is really good
Someone please help me out with something, is the rivers of blood the best bleed katana now after the buff or is it still the nagakiba with bloodflame?
What is the white armor you are wearing?
IMO uchi or nagakiba should be number 1. Both can be infused with sepuku and Flame of redmanes. Both are literal god killers.
Moonvail is still the best + staff with magic build
I always used to play str/fai builds on previous souls games, I went blindly for int/dex on this run and had a rough time until I noticed moonveil (I already had it but didn't know it) and oh boy carian knight sword became the shittiest thing immediately... (but it kinda fucked with the difficulty, since a lot of enemies became a piece of cake)
Quality weapons, like the Dragonscale Katana, are best utilized with 54 Strength, 55 Dex, and 2 handing the weapon to get the most of your strength.
Wait if I get an uchigatana with bleed and a dragon scale that inflicts frost on a level 1 build, I will kill everything
Dragon scale blade is now buffed!!
This man played Elden Ring.
This man has finished the story more than once.
This man knows enough about the game to make videos about it.
Calls it 'Blade of Malena' as if she is a minor character.
I like every games if that game have katana & samurai character
Occult nagakiba with unsheathe wins.
Where to get Emma Oden swords?
I'm still trying to understand how a longer version of the same weapon is somehow placed lower 💀
im happy to see someone else agrees with me that the moonveil katana is the superior katana its so good.
It's my favourite weapon in the game!
Yeah is the more op katana followed by rob but, there is something cool about putting, experiment things and builds on the Nagakiba.
I always had this feeling that having an effect like bleed or something is required or it just fits more well with it.
Huhwhat?!?!
I like moonveil but it's skill as not faster as rivers of blood
If only you had the ability to deflect like Sekiro
Where's the Wakizashi?😢
Sword fans when I pull up with my pollaxe
Best katana? The naginata
I see it more like a spear with curved end than a long katana, i'ts an hybrid, but is a really good weapon!
Is moonveil good if all your skills are max at 99? I wanna know before I max out my stats
Yes, very. Deals higher damage than the purely physical katanas against anything that doesn't resist magic much. The ash trivializes 95% of PvE and can oneshot in PvP.
Its noobie asf
Moonveil and ROB are broken af
Not really. Poke weapons and Quickstep are king in PvP. And in PvE, curved swords with bleed or Mohg's spear or Black Flame Tornado or Comet Azur or so much more are way more broken.
any weapon is good at maxes stats
As a noob, I’m struggling with killing bosses. Which one is best for damage mid game
moonveil you can get pretty early it’s just you’ll need to upgrade to get it too it’s full potential look up a video on how and then try and look to upgrade weapons or summons, weapons use smithing stones weapons with magic use a white smithing stone (i can’t remember the name of it) also I forgot to say look up best summon tier list and try and get a good summon early it can really be a game changer also you can upgrade them with glowwort till level 5 thing you use ghost glowwort the rest of the way I can’t really remember rn but yeah hopefully that helped you bro
It's off the topic but if you're struggling - just get Mohgwyn's spear and +10 it. Its ability is instant blood loss. You're welcome.
@@TeeJayyW moonveil is def amazing for a first timer on elden ring. A really good weapon that still requires skill to use and you can’t just spam the move over and over. It’s great for a really balanced play style not just spamming.
@@hunter890x mogh is more late game though
@@josiahday210 you can go to Mohg any time you like after defeating Godrick. You just need to complete the white mask(Varre)'s quest and off ya go. That's still pretty early game.
Should dual wield river of blood or single ??
@@Parker874 I just use the Uchigatana with sudoku and bleed scaling.
I'd say the dual weild moveset of katanas is worth it
dual weild it with nagakiba
Hi
I chose the samurai class in Elden Ring and then I went to the cave that everyone said was Yuchigatana and I searched the whole environment for him, but he wasn't there.
Note that I searched the entire cave in Limgrave area, but I did not find the weapon!
My game version is 1.00. Does this have anything to do with the game version? Where is this weapon and how can I find it?
its in the deathtouched catacombs. search up a guide on where to find it because its not in plain sight
Samurai starts with it
@@jcoles3793 maybe they wanna powerstance?
Why is there no faith katana
Nagakibi is the best Katana. Moonveil and Rivers of blood only for noob.
How do you get swords to +25
12 of every smithing stone and 1ancient dragon smith stone
Hand of Malena
isn’t the uchigatana the default katana? it’s still really good?
Yeah. I prefer nagakiba for the reach tho
Nagakiba on top
Dragonscale > meteor and serpentbone
Rivers of blood is way better than moonveil lol
Nagakiba> everythig else
"Malena"
>:C
Wakizachi? D:
Magma blade is s easy
Nah fam, Hand of Melania is the worst Katana in the game.
Sabres arent katanas.
This fool said moonveil does fire dmh
