Can you see yourself editing on iPad?
not without a mouse as I think that works best for most stuff and I wouldn't like finger prints all over my edit screen. Maybe using it as a second screen on the move but not worth the price of a new pro one just for a extra screen.
@@tomjkelly Depends... their new implementation of OLED looks staggeringly good. This might be a great preview screen on the level of much more expensive pro studio monitors... we'll try to test this
@@tomjkelly Also you can use it with the trackpad and possibly an optional mouse if you prefer, so I don't see a lack of choice to operate it here. Nino
@@CineD Yes the screen looks very promising and good monitors are expensive anyway. Good news about being able to bypass the touch interface. Thanks Nino
I would love to have the option of starting an edit on the iPad and possibly finishing something simple. Touch sounds really cool but in practice it might be much more difficult than using a mouse for editing tasks. Are there shortcuts on iPad Final Cut?
The Final Cut Camera app Live Multicam is so cool i don't really have a use for it but cool software nonetheless.
Is it on the App Store? I didn’t see it.
@@alphaartisan it’s still not in the App Store they will announce when it’s coming
Apple needs to really make iOS more "Pro" too. The power is definitely there, but the app development is hindered due to memory allocations and limitations in the system software.
It'll have to change, I agree... there will be a point in time where iPad OS will have to be more accessible / versatile than iOS on iPhone, and I don't think there's a really good reason they're both essentially the same now. Tablet sales have been falling for years due to better phones, and only more versatility in the iPad OS could potentially stop that. My 2 cents. Nino
Yeah, basically why not just give iPad OS style ( someway to merge it ) capability for those who want it and IOS version for older and less powerful iPads.
More impressive than expected
I agree
thats me at 0:45 !
I pretty much cut and author everything on iPad. It needed this update, though.
“First time Apple has allowed non-employees in” is incorrect. Last November I had the pleasure of going in myself for an education event. We were one of first public groups to go in. Such a beautiful building.
Good to know! That's the information I had. Nino
So does Apple own the power station? I’m a bit confused.
Aside from the multiple iPhones no one just carries around. The multi cam idea is cool. But Final Cut pro on the ipad seems amazing for beginners/college level and even sone professionals. If only film making was this accessible when I was a high schooler.
Yes it's limiting to have this work only with iPhones, however if you think about it, various people on a crew / office usually have iPhones, and if they can be used spontaneously for some of that content, why not. But surely it would be great if Apple had an API to connect their phones with cameras!
This is the kind of innovation that FCPX needs to differentiate itself and regain popularity amongst professionals. Nevertheless, it is still some way off from achieving that goal and knocking off PremierePro off of its pedestal. Apple need to either create a special 'sync box' (for want of a better term) that can connect to professional cameras in order to be able to do the same thing. Either that, or take advantage of the Wi-Fi connections that modern cameras tend to have these days. I don't know what would be the easiest, cheapest and most effective method, but I think that you can see what I am getting at. It really all depends on what audience Apple is now targetting with FCPX.
Apple targets new users like high school and college students...esp they are familiar with iPhone
You mean "sync box" to use the Live Multicam feature with cameras? I agree, I hope they'll make this possible for third parties by giving an API for Final Cut Camera. Nino
Editing from an SSD should have been included with the initial release imo. Better late than never. Are all these new Final Cut Pro features exclusive to the M4 Pro models? Or will previous iPad Pros be able to utilize these features with a simple Final Cut Pro software update?
Thanks for a good review and added perspectives. Did Apple say when the new FCP for iPad will be out. Glad to hear it was not only a rewrite but also seeing how the Apple Pencil is used is a very needed feature.
They said “later this spring“. It will be very soon.
What does that slightly less thickness of the ipad have to do with video editing on the go? Does video editors really have such tiny bags that cannot accommodate 1 extra millimetre of the ipad? So longer battery life and larger screen size, durability are not more important?? Tell me you are not going to add a protective case to the new ipad you just bought. Then complain that your Apple Pencil does not work on certain part of the screen because the digitizer malfunction because the ipad Flexed due to the thinness and Apple care charges you more to replace it.
I agree that usually the "race to lighter / thinner" products is not always the main concern for pros, power and endurance definitely is. However in this case, the previous 12.9" iPad Pro was definitely too heavy to hold in one hand for extended periods of time, and that's not the case anymore. Which means you can really edit on the go as a content creator... for pros I see this more as a fast turnaround way of editing at events / weddings or to get a preview edit while on set with a corporate client, and then you can finish on the Mac when back at the desk. Nino
Interesting. I use Premiere for my workflow, so it's not really practical to move to another editing app which breaks my workflow entirely. Very cool, but just easier to edit on a laptop.
Yes, this is great hardware, but useless.
@@nnnnnn3647for you😂
M4 for watching RUclips and surf the web.
That’s probably 99% of what people who get them do. I still have the 2018 pro, would love to use final cut and logic, but I’m not paying monthly for stuff I already have on my mbp.
Gonna watch it later again
Was hoping for a lot more review of FCP.
It's not out yet, we only got a hands-on at the demo event. But we will work on a full review of it soon, once we get to use it.
What was the make and model of the sad drive they used in the FCP example? I’m curious of the read/write speed.
Looks like the LaCie Thunderbolt Drive.
LaCie Rugged SSD Pro. Speeds of up to 2800MB/s. I have the 2TB model.
How is not *_any_* Thunderbolt SSD more than fast enough for anything you could possibly want to do on _an iPad_ ? 🤨
Stupid question, I can’t find the Camera App on the App Store, is it restricted to US only.
Hi @alexanderfelke. The App should be available for download later this month. Thank you!
I hope all FCP users get the scene removal feature, I will have the 13 inch Ipad but I refuse to buy FCP again just for that feature
I'm sure it'll come to desktop too. Nino
When the camera app will be out? The major problem with the Final Cut Pro app is that is subscription based… for that reason I bought the daVinci resolve app
They said, "later this spring", so it can't be too long.
$5 a month isn’t gonna kill you

@@sebmonti5904it’s not the point. You never own it fully offline. That’s like saying “Oh I don’t mind spending $5 a month on heated seats in my car (a real thing) because it’s only 4 months out of the year”… It’s especially hard to swallow when people like me who already OWN both logic and fcp already. It would be noce
If they had a one time purchase option as well…Gotta stop that simp mentality, bud.
Cool video, Nino. It's greast oget your perspective as you are a production guy .. and youtuber not just a youtuber. What did you shoot this on? was it an iPhone or iPad Pro by chance?
It's a mix between iPhone shots and (predominantly) Sony a7s3
Is fcp2 better now than lumafusion?
we'll find out in our test!
Great. Both my 1 yr old M2 Ultra Studio & M3 MacBook Pro are ancient 😂 - and why... Why.... WHY is MacOS just not on the iPad Pro Apple - WTF?!!!!
It’s an iPad. Buy a Mac. LOL
do they have speed ramping yet? I use Vn video video editor which is free and the best speed ramping tool and key framing smooth curves. I dont see a reason to subscribe yet
Don't know. Will test!
Awesome & Thanks :)
But does Final Cut Pro 2.0 for iPad finally add support for captions/subtitles?
Good question - I saw a little icon in the corner hinting at that function, but upon asking, I was told, "we don't have anything to share on that right now". We'll see.
I thought the new multicam feature can be used while shooting !
I think it can be, for live editing, but we'll see when we test it
Is the Final Cut Pro 2 live multicam be available for the M1 and 2 thanks.
Yes
Thanks for sharing, and I am wondering if the Final Cut camera can by pass the oversharpening on the none pro iPhone?
Good question, but we doubt it ... surely only the Apple Log mode will continue to do that, and that's only in the Pro models.
@@CineD That's a bit pity, if compared to log and less oversharpening, I might lean towards to a footages that's less DR but looks not artificial oversharpening...the only reason prevent me from get a colorful energetic none pro iPhone...
Can I ask is the Final Cut 2 only for iPad Pro m4 or is it available for all m processor I have the M2 ist going to work on it thanks.
It's going to work on it too
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
@@CineD did you get any hands on with the final cut camera app? Curious to see the controls, how the UI and pro features compare to the black magic camera app and Filmic pro.
@@Star_boy369 They didn't let us use it yet, unfortunately
The new final cut pro is used on previous Ipad pro 6 ?
It'll work on the previous one too, if that's the question
Biggest news for me is that you can edit off an external SSD. Just saved me a chunk of money.
absolutely!
2:47 does this feature of the SSD only work with the new M4 iPad or all the previous M models?
it should work with previous ones too
@@CineD do you know when the release date is?
@@Itsheysaharaa not exactly, they said later this spring, so it can't be far away
How would you charge the iPad when editing if the USB-c port already has ssd ?
You wouldn't - I don't think it can be charged at the same time.
@@CineD thank you for honest answer
In the demo it looked like they attached the ipad to a studio display, and used the usb hub in three display for the ssd.
More important question, what videographer/cinematographer is carrying around 3 extra iphones?
You can. You just need to use a dongle or hub of some sort.
iPad= What a beautiful large iPhone🎉🎉
Can you open the library to Fcpx?
Yes - it can be opened on the Mac version. But it's a one way street, you can't go back to iPad again after opening on Mac
@@CineDthat's the info I've been looking for - and unfortunately it's a deal breaker. Thanks for saving me a ton of money! 😅
Ya but FCP is a subscription that sucks I’m never getting that
So all I need to buy is 4 iPhones and one iPad Pro, well that’s definitely not going to happen.
I love how her favorite ipad feature is to spend more on Apple Pencil
Btw they removed 1 camera and 1 microphone :))
thinpossible
3:46
Anyone know what SSD that was @2:18-2:25?
Looks like a Lacie SSD Rugged Pro ( black ) , ( maybe 1 or 2 TB version ). .. I can’t confirm , but I have the orange color version. Works excellent for me.
@@dcchavez97 Thank you!
The Scene Removal Mask filter is *_not_* new.
I just checked and you are right - that is SO weird why they promoted it so heavily as something new in "Final Cut Pro for iPad 2" ... it was there in the first version already.
Who’s filming anything serious with iphones? Multiple iPhones at that.
Apple needs to understand we dont want thin we want a beast,if thats 1cms thick or 3cm
They kind of gave us that with the Macbook Pros when we moved to M1, when they became thicker but much more powerful. There's no need for this on the iPads now since the M4 needs less power for higher speeds, so they can go thinner
@@CineD the thickness of the MacBook is perfect. They could also add more battery or something. Thin big things scare me when it comes to break ability and airflow
Ipad for editing a film...um sure. I struggle with three 27 inch screens already
I think it's not really made for editing a feature - but quick turnaround, small content - why not?
@@CineD that's called a phone app then
If the iPad Pro does not have, macOS is pointless, just buy a laptop and get it done quicker easier and simpler
LOVE FROM 🇮🇳 INDIA
Mega lag in playback. 5:18 no so great presentation
Couldn't find what you are referring too? Nino
I think they're referring to the playback when the lady places the ipad back, they're not in sync and looks like it pauses.
New iPads aren’t worth the price vs what MacBook does with its chipset . Apples way out of line with price for the iPads
Not practical at the ridiculous price. Who cares how thin it is. I thought they'd stop that nonsense once Jony Ive was gone. Form over function is stupid.
👍🏾🙏🏾 🏴🇸🇪🇹🇹
Nothing special to see here
For you. I’m upgrading from an iPad 6th gen so stfu
Can you create a project and do rough editing in FCP 2 and then continue to refine it on the desktop version of FCP? I’m still rocking the 2nd gen iPad Pro 12.9 and was holding out for the OLED screen and will be picking this version up. I really want to be able to work on some ProRes files on-site then bring back the rough edit onto the desktop to leverage all of the plugins that I have.
Yes, but as Nino said above it's a one way street; no round tripping. So can at least start a cut on the iPad, but finish on Mac.
