- Spearfishing around Big Sharks to take home a feed of fresh Snapper! I head out on a solo dive to beautiful Tiritiri Matangi Island in New Zealand's Hauraki Gulf and encounter some BIG Bronze Whaler sharks while I free dive and hunt for Snapper on the Speargun. Followed by a 'catch and cook' filleting and cook up session!

Excellent. I'm over in New England and dive all year round, so I love seeing Spearos from different parts of the world doing what we love. I was out 03/18/23 all day hunting lobster and enjoying the dive. 5°c water and air, sunny, low swell, and no chop. Was empty handed almost all day so I decided to get a bit deeper since low tide was peaking in the late afternoon and I knew I could hit the sandy bottom at 20m instead of 25. Omw back to shallower water around 13m diving super well in the cold really hitting my stride in terms of breath holds/breathe ups I was down for over a minute when I peaked over a ledge and saw two decent sized claws poking out the ledge. As soon as I was over the claws he caught my shadow and spun on a dime, claws at the ready. Did a quick fake-out with my right hand and grabbed him behind the claws with my left. He fought the whole way into the bag, but eventually I got him home and into the pot. I've been spearfishing/diving now for many years and I am constantly learning new things and improving my technique. It's in no small part thanks to diver/content creators like Ollie that I was able to realize what was possible and I'm grateful to all of them for sharing their adventures and showing us what's possible if you just get out there and grab life by the horns. Thank you, Ollie!
Love the cooking at the end, really nice to see how you fillet and then prepare!

Cheers 🍻 From Aus 🇦🇺
Yum!
Love ya using it all. I wasted lota heads n bits years back. Just stupid really. Thanx
Nice video and loving the new cooking content mate. Keep up the great work.
Also, can you help me to ID that fish in between the rocks at 0:13? They're all over the place here in Aus but I get the feeling they'd be terrible eating, just keen to confirm.
Cheers for the video Ollie. I presume you left the scales on for the soup? Did you notice any off taste from them? I always remove them but would save time if it didnt a degrade flavor.
Absolute Kiwi legend
Awesome as always brother - hey how long did you leave the broth on heat for? Gonna do this this week with any fish I manage to spear, cheers!
Great idea with the fish bone broth Ollie! I wonder if a bit of sour cream and chilli stirred in would go well with it? Fantastic on a cold winters day. Yum!
Perhaps mate! You’ll have to give it a try and let me know how it goes!
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit Will do, thanks again Ollie.
Awesome again Ollie. Soup looks great… but, do you end up with scales in it?
I’m the same, too tired at the end of the day and just quick fillet then bury the frames!
Nope, strain all liquid then mix in any bit of meat etc from head after! Very tasty!
Oh man you’re missing out! Smoke those fish heads, so much flavour in the eyes, cheeks and brain. Fry the frames! My absolute favourite way to eat them. Lightly dust/cover in flour then cook them whole. Till nice and crispy, you won’t regret it!
I have always kept the heads on bigger snappers just been a bit slack with smaller ones but the smaller heads are great for soup! I usually do smoke the big ones then make into fish pies!
Nice vid bro. Hey what wrist watch are you running in this video?
That's the tahi bro🤘🏽no wastage
On holidays in three weeks, ill be ready for my first mission bro 🙂
Lesss gooooo
Are you a teacher?
That bone broth looked delicious Ollie.
It was!
How long can you hold your breathe for?
Think when i grew up. Was all about fillets an lot off waste. Moari mates would take all the fish home. An one bro if fishin wasent good eat the bait of the board. Was frozen kahawhai. Not store brought fussy basterd' but was for a snaps. Thax great vid.
Seafood risotto with fish bone broth stock next….?
Oi Oli, I reckon there's a better way to make freediving flippers, what are you like at making stuff?
Tell me more mate
howcome he never uses a flasher?
Interesting about the bronzies not liking the snapper.
Over here in Oz they will happily take any big snapper from you
hello

Every good SpearO has a Pet shark, you found yours. I dive with a 350+kg zambezi nearly every year, same place, same time of year😂😂❤👍🦞🐬🦈
