I love both New York and Los Angeles, but because I also love driving, going to the beach or mountain, especially the weather, this video made me realize that :)
Actually all of Southern California has a nice and similar vibe. I've lived in LA, but I had friends from OC and ended up moving to OC and like it a lot. No place is perfect, but at least in OC you get that SoCal vibe but with less traffic and people lol. Some areas like Laguna Beach, are actually some of the most beautiful places on the West Coast imho.
Agreed. OC beaches are great. In terms of urban areas I prefer LA over OC though. LA feels much more like a city. Many of its best known beaches are not great though, so OC has a plus over LA in that area.
Man this video is great! Shows a lot of the good of LA that you don’t see online if you aren’t from here. We’ll welcome you with open arms if you ever do decide to move!
The weather (when it's not freakishly cold) and the places are my favorite. I'm not much a fan of the residents since they're so jaded, but I love meeting people who are brand new here - they remind me how I first felt and how I always want to feel out here. Sean is so right - no matter how awesome you are, it takes a lot of work to make friends here. If you work or school remotely, goooooooood luck!
I really love NYC but I have a dream to be an actor, so I think LA is the right place for me. Now I live in Thailand and I know that it’s impossible to make that dream come true, but I won’t give up.
I had roommates in LA that had the same dream as you and were delivering food to pay the bills. I don't believe it takes hard work to land a place in Hollywood, but luck. With that said I hope luck finds you if you end up here
Why do people feel they have to generalize everything about these cities? Of course, L.A. isn't better than NYC. And NYC isn't better than L.A. Both cities are simply different. NYC appeals to some people. And L.A. appeals to others. Good grief.
I was born and raised in Chicago so I know the ins and out of the city and its downtown area,so yeah we get you brett. It's also a feeling you get when you're in the city that saw you grow up.
I came here to look for new experiences, if you are a Nigerian you know this is heaven compared to where we are from, making it out of the rural, struggling in Togo, when you have amounted to some measure of success your eyes become open to new possibilities, I am definitely thinking of defying the norm of going to Dubai and visiting Los Angeles
I’m born/raised in Hawaii. I live in Santa Monica (but also live/work in Las Vegas part time) and solo travel the world often (heading to Costa Rica today and Brazil in April). Ride the bike path with my Yorkie, workout at the beach by that active lawn, treat myself to Urth Caffe often. I live living here because I can fly home to Hawaii pretty quickly and the weather is pretty good all year long compare to other places in the US. Fun to see you in my neighborhood ☀️
I like the bigger houses, spaces, palm trees, warm weather and vibe of LA. Plus as you said, quick flights to Tokyo, Hawaii, Manila, Bangkok, Singapore etc. Ideally I'd have an apartment in Maui, LA, and NYC.
NYC >>>>>>> LA. Having lived in both cities I can say with certainty that the social dynamics in New York are a million times more interesting. I talk about that in one of my latest videos.
You should have stayed at a hostel in DTLA if you wanted to compare more of a NYC feel in LA. DTLA is also the best connected area with LA Metro. There are a lot of places you can get to via the LA Metro that doesn't require a car or Uber. LA Metro also has a very extensive bus system. It operates over 100 lines with more than 1000 stops.
Dude I moved to nyc I’m an LA boy but yeah other than the traffic which is a skill in avoiding we just have a better life out here nyc is just damn near unsustainable these days so expensive and it makes you feel like a rat
I'm from NYC and I'm still here unfortunately.. I've been to LA twice, and I'm ready to move there. I thought it was amazing the first time. I even brought my bf there the second time so he could experience it too. Although he hardly left Downtown LA so he wasn't fully impressed yet but he does love the weather. So I gotta try to get him out there again this summer. If you can make it here you can make it anywhere, and LA only requires a little time to adjust to and adapt the lifestyle. Anyone will have a culture shock moving out of an environment they've been in forever, animals sure do. I'm going to move to LA in the next 3 years!
@@nehsone7491 thanks! What do you think about Glendale or Pasadena? I'm looking for a new suburban lifestyle from my city life. But still want the metro area to be in some proximity. I need access to the hustle and bustle lol. I'm still a city girl no matter what.
I think you're absolutely correct that it makes a difference what we're used to. I grew up in San Diego and then lived for 5 years in Los Angeles. I've only driven into NYC from NJ one night for a hockey game, so I don't say I've really ever been to NYC. It intrigues me and I want to visit it and I'd even consider living there after I got to know it (because I prefer city life to rural life) but I KNOW I'd enjoy living in southern California again. I live in Virginia now and it has been interesting experiencing 4 seasons and I can drive 2 hours and see the beach, but it's very different from southern California and I miss it sometimes.
This video made sense to me more than any other NYC vs LA comparison video I've even seen, thanka man, you're really inspirational for me, keep on the GREAT work.
I did the whole tourist thing visiting LA and San Fran but the one thing I realized is touring a place --especially with local friends -is quite different from living there. Locals would tend to take you to the best places and you will only have time to enjoy nice weather if you are only visiting. I have attempted to move to numerous places but I surprisingly liked only one place in the US I did not expect -Las Vegas. It's different for everyone but in my opinion you should only decide to move if you lived in a place for a while or at least have visited several times throughout the year
Being from North New Jersey, I go to NYC a good fair amount of times, so I'm rather familiar with NYC culture and taking the train or walking everywhere. But one thing I know about Los Angeles after going there a couple times is: you ABSOLUTELY NEED A CAR! No joke, everything is so far, and seems like an atleast 30 minute drive according to the GPS.
I think the ideal is LA in the winter and NYC in the summer. For me, weather is one of the key factors driving my decision on where I choose to live. I do, however, enjoy both.

The transportation sucks, you will absolutely need a car because everything is miles apart and you will be spending a minimum of $50 a week on gas if you don’t have electric. If your not working at least 60 plus hours a week, you won’t have any friends to hang out with because you’ll be too broke to do so. You’ll get the occasional unexpected, worst timing $2k repair cost on your vehicle, money that you probably saved up in a year or so and now you start from scratch. It’s like an infant loop of struggle and unhappiness here in California unless your making at least $90k a year and even then your probably working 60 plus hours a week. And before you even think about owning a home in California you better have a minimum of $120k sitting around for a 20% down payment. Yes we have a 3% down FHA housing loan here in California but you’ll be broke for the rest of your life and you won’t have a 401k due to you indulging every single penny into your morgue because you were too damn broke to put down $120k. Nice video, I’m from New England also Rhode Island between Connecticut and Boston, I went to Los Angeles couple years ago, I love it can’t wait to go back again, but I’m a new Yorker fan too, welcome home, I’m happy that you have fun in LA👏👏👏👏
NYC HANDS DOWN!!! I loved living here... LA is cool and all but I feel you're going to spend way more living in LA. LA definitely not a city where you can just bike or take the subway everywhere. A car is a must have hence why they have the worst traffic. I see what you mean about people being so welcoming. I felt that same vibe after I moved to NYC.
Loved the video. I live in Long Beach, in LA county. I personally would love to live in NY city. Love the energy. Been in Cali all my life and need a change of scenery.
There is not only better food in LA, we also have the most variety. No contest. Even in this video, the New Yorker said people were better in LA. LA also has much more variety of outdoor activities.
I've lived in LA for a decade and no one in LA spends time outdoors besides the popular hiking trails. The parks are deserted except for homeless people. In NY, even if the weather is not nearly as warm, the parks are packed and people live outside. I recommend that you actually visit the city. You clearly haven't @@mrxman581
Nothing beats mother nature it's not only beautiful but very much needed for human health. It beats any concrete jungle, I've lived in both places. As I got in my mid 30's I understood better health is my top priorities and not living a life were "hustling" and city stress is way to live life, at least for me and many others.. Many people when they leave their 20's they will choose to live in calmer and less noisy and mostly close to nature. Do another video when you're mid to late 30's;) Just like many things in life, there are cons and pros about both cities, eventually you choose a city after your top priorities. For me a life full of Nature, so Cali wins 🌱☀️🌵
omg i love your comment! i’m only 19 but already dreaming of that slower pace lifestyle in California where there’s nature that isn’t man-made (Central Park in NYC was man-made so meh) and then you have amazing beaches and you can live that lifestyle while still being a career focused type of person! life is not a race but in NYC it feels like it is a race and that’s toxic for your health :))
Brett, I’m a New Yorker for life. I can’t leave NYC for LA. There is so much unique stuff that goes on in NYC and never a dull moment. The food is amazing here as well. You better not betray NYC lol.
I'm from LA and been to NYC. I agree there is a lot to see in NYC, but LA can easily give NYC a run for its money. Whether its museums, art galleries, music, culture, nightlife, etc. Theme parks, beaches and mountains in LA def. have a plus over NYC (and also the Queen Mary and Endeavor space shuttle at the California Science Center). Hayden Planetarium NYC = Griffith Observatory and Planetarium in LA. Either way both cities probably have the most attractions in the U.S. when it comes things to sight see and do.
@@danmur2797 Nah. LA is NOT on par with any of those things you've mentioned besides beaches and mountains. Definitely doesn't come close to the museums and the nightlife of NYC.
I can't think of a place that makes me think otherwise; even though I loved Miami while living in Florida, there is always something missing for me that just doesn't feel right.
NYC all the way. Born in raised in Queens and I frequent queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn usually and I honestly can’t see myself leaving anytime soon. I’ve been to LA a few times on vacation, Hollywood, downtown LA, silver lake and Malibu and it’s all gorgeous and such a good time but not for me for living personally. Gorgeous places though and I love being there every single time. Sun life organics can take my money anyway for a delicious smoothie ❤️🥰
Angeleno born and raised, although I would love to visit NYC and other parts of the East Coast (been to DC in '96 when in 8th grade), I just couldn't move to NYC because of the weather and the distance in terms of how long it'll be to get back and forth across the country in case of family emergency. And in spite of living 2 to 4 hrs hours in either direction of ski resorts, ( Big Bear, Mountain High and Gorman along the Grapevine aka interstate 5) i''ve never seen snow up close and personal with the exception of watching the snow reports from the local ski resorts and other snow related news on the local news. That's not to say that I haven''t ever thought moving from L.A., i did plan on moving to Dallas in 2017 after visiting family friends a couple of times and fell in love with Dallas with in the first 2 days of my first trip, but in the end, due to some emotional issues connected to the lost of my mom in 2016 and the sheer fact that moving across the country , whether it's Dallas or NYC is no joke., I wasn't as ready as I thought i was. No city is perfect, but just like New Yorkers love NYC, Angelenos love L.A. worts, eccentricities (looking at you Venice Beach lol) , traffic and all
NYC is my home and always will be. I need to see LA in person with my own eyes. I doubt jd ever move there. But who knows. I need to experience the other side of the country first. But there’s just something about living in nyc. It’s full of life with a lot of differences and uniqueness.
I could never live in cold NY. L.A. has everything, beaches, mountains, skyscrapers, sun. NY for a vacation is okay, but it’s just not a place where I would want to live.
i love my job in midtown but want to move to LA as im originally a texas mexican guy and miss my culture. oh and i miss driving! yes train is good but i like to be in control and cruise around listening to music
Just got back from NYC. Lived in both San Diego and Los Angeles all my life. I've known many New Yorkers who are now In SoCal And I always ask them should I relocate to NYC? I also asked several New Yorkers in New York the same question. Every single one said don't do it! Love it here in LA. Love NYC too....to visit.
Cliffs Bro! You should check out Sender-One LAX next time you're here (if you haven't already) - amazing walls, but the bouldering routes are not quite as good as Touchstone, IMO. I love LA and live there. Cali is unrivalled for outdoor activities. NYC, though, is hands down the best, most fun city in the US! Can't wait to go back!

LA is cool, but NYC is unique! Another level!
Hey thanks for this video Brett! We’re flying to LA next month and your recos are definitely going to be in our list😊 Hope you had an awesome time!❤️
Nice video, I’m from New England also Rhode Island between Connecticut and Boston, I went to Los Angeles couple years ago, I love it can’t wait to go back again, but I’m a new Yorker fan too, welcome home, I’m happy that you have fun in LA👏👏👏👏
NYC for sure, escaping from the winters is nice
nope New York is way too cold......L.A for me all day bro
LA BABY!❤
NYC HANDS DOWN!!! I loved living here... LA is cool and all but I feel you're going to spend way more living in LA. LA definitely not a city where you can just bike or take the subway everywhere. A car is a must have hence why they have the worst traffic. I see what you mean about people being so welcoming. I felt that same vibe after I moved to NYC.
Lived in both places . I would choose NYC
Loved the video. I live in Long Beach, in LA county. I personally would love to live in NY city. Love the energy. Been in Cali all my life and need a change of scenery.
LA one of most beautiful place, spacially Beaches fun and all. Big like for your Vlog and waiting for your next video
Imagine while climbing to the observatory you see Travor trying to get away from a ⭐️⭐️⭐️ wanted
LA all the way
Love the Ggiata hats on the crew- that’s my buddy’s deli. Appreciate y’all w the support!
For people NY>LA
Weather LA>NY
Food NY=LA
Nightlife NY>LA
Space LA>NY
what is better for people in NYC?
There is not only better food in LA, we also have the most variety. No contest.
Even in this video, the New Yorker said people were better in LA. LA also has much more variety of outdoor activities.
I've lived in LA for a decade and no one in LA spends time outdoors besides the popular hiking trails. The parks are deserted except for homeless people. In NY, even if the weather is not nearly as warm, the parks are packed and people live outside. I recommend that you actually visit the city. You clearly haven't

La is the move Brett!!
Wow that trick shot at 4:51 turned out so good!!!
That shot at the end is so beautiful!
loved the video a lot, as always! Keep em coming Brett.
Love you brother.
NYC and LA both so different with their own mystique.
You sound stupid to say more is going on in NY then LA
@@theone8173 Ok calm down.
@@danmur2797 BRO im calm and I live in LA, dont tell me anything, and fam in NY, Im from the east coast. LA hands down
@@danmur2797 Nah. LA is NOT on par with any of those things you've mentioned besides beaches and mountains. Definitely doesn't come close to the museums and the nightlife of NYC.
Born and raised in LA I would choose NYC any day!
Leaving NYC for LA would be an expensive mistake because you'd just end up moving back, and moving costs are insane.
the experiences are priceless
Expensive yes. Mistake--depends.
I'm from LA. Love visiting NYC, but have a hard time picturing living there.
What do you mean? Isn’t NYC just as expensive?
I can't think of a place that makes me think otherwise; even though I loved Miami while living in Florida, there is always something missing for me that just doesn't feel right.
you guys fr everywhere
The new guy without a mustache
LA is the place I wish to live in.
Highly recommend staying out of La. Good luck with everything though!
Stay a week in Chicago next. You owe it to yourself to stay in the best city in America 🇺🇸 😎
No city is perfect, but just like New Yorkers love NYC, Angelenos love L.A. worts, eccentricities (looking at you Venice Beach lol) , traffic and all
Amazing video , thank you for being honest and again don't stop making content .
New York for life!
NYC is love ❤
Definitely NYC! Hands down.
i love my job in midtown but want to move to LA as im originally a texas mexican guy and miss my culture. oh and i miss driving! yes train is good but i like to be in control and cruise around listening to music
Lovely video thanks for sharing 👍 🥰
I wanna move to LA so bad !!!
Why?
@@Theyralltakenfu gay porn
I REALLY LOVE YOUR CONTENT.
Technically you can go to the beach and skiing on the same day from NY as well. You will just freeze you a** off at the beach 😶🌫️
I’m in NYC right now and I’d much rather be in LA, but my California husband doesn’t want to go back.
LA is nice, but I'm an east coast boy and will be moving to NYC when I retire.
“Wax it up like a surfboard” lol. Definitely a New Yorker. The wax is to stop you from sliding, just FYI. You’re my favorite travel blogger.
NYC Definitely!
Nice Lupe’s hat!
wow cant thank u enough for this beautiful video 🥰
New York. 🍎❤️
That sunset though! 😍
NYC hands down!!🗽
Great one Brett 🔥
NYC all the way!
I did this for 3 years and I ended up back in NYC
New York City! Although i'm currently move to UK but i'll be catching up with you soon Brett!
