I like the idea of the new one being a bit 'hotter'. I would imagine they changed the circuitry with better components which would explain the price increase (or they just knew that most podcasters would go for it). Thanks for the video!
i watch deep pocket monster and your channel is one of the ones who inspired me to create it and this video helped my first microphone work beautifully if you see this good luck with paldea
Thanks pat, I didn't knew a dynamic mic exist with USB port, found this mic from a video but no review was in depth like yours, you showed exactly what I was looking for from past 2 days, thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! Thanks Pat. I had no idea I could use an adapter for the atr 2100 on my iPad. You just changed my life again...for REAL. THanks again bro for all you do!!
Thanks for there review, Pat. I have a RE-20 that I use but it requires my Scarlett 2i2 and MacBook Pro. I was doing some research to find out which mic might work with an iPad (and future iPhone with USB-C) so your review of the new 2100x is perfect timing. So sad about the crap stand--they shouldn't have even bothered lol
Based only on hearing the mic's output (through RUclips) on your video as my sole basis of comparison, I prefer the 2100X. I like that it naturally came through with a hotter signal than the original, and it sounded overall just "better" me (so subjective). I also have to think that while the older model was very definitely tried and true, etc, my hope is that the updated internal components only improve on that reputation while offering overall better quality. I hadn't even heard this one was coming out, so thanks for the first impression and introduction. :)
Great video! The look on your face when the stand broke was PRICELESS!!! Hope to start my podcast this year, wish me luck! Thanks again for all your helpful advice, reviews, and crucial information.
Thanks for the detailed review! Old and new comparison is much appreciated considering the popularity of the 2100. Audio-Technica makes great products at an affordable price.
Hey Pat! First of all, thanks for doing what you do. You helped me a ton when I launched my own podcast in November 2018 & I've been coming to your channel ever since when I get stuck 😂 I appreciate the help! Second, you asked for our thoughts on the new mic! Personally, I really loved the sound and look of the new one. I also have a macbook pro with the usb type c inputs so that would be very helpful not having to use the adapters! Again, thanks for doing what you do!
Pat its a nice simple video that had me laughing. Not only did you show how to work things, you also showed how things Break....Literally. Love the podcast but with RUclips we get to see more of you and how serious.....and not so serious you take yourself. Keep it up #TeamFlynn for the win!
Thanks for the demo Pat, I have been looking at a dynamic mic. My wife and I record a podcast at home using 2 condensers and with 5 kids it is NEVER quiet! This one may just be the winner.
I really like your review very informative and I agree with you that the sound was a little bit better on the newer one. Thanks for all the content you put out.
This is perfect! Just used your link to buy it. I didn't want Yetti and I wasn't sure about Rode for audio only. I literally gave the video a round of applause when I heard the audio. 🤣 THANKS SO MUCH. I may have to order more than one.
I'm a recent podcaster, just using headphone mic and uploading audio into a video to RUclips, so my experience is severely limited. I've really enjoyed your videos and I appreciate learning more about podcasting and mics like in this video. Thanks for sharing and offering a mic drawing - that's really cool!
Amazing review! Apple lists the adapter for $19 so the price difference is about $11. For those $11 extra you also get the benefits of not being able to loose the adapter or becoming a victim of Apples limited-lifetime strategy design of cables/adapters/chargers. Please keep reviewing, I like the format and your down-to-earth, practical, easy to understand style.
I started using the audio technica ATR2100 after watching your videos and doing lots of research. I loved that mic. I recently switched over to the rode pod mic to use with my rode caster pro. This new mic seems like it would be a good travel mic since you can record directly to the iPad. Thanks for all the work you put in to create your content.
Thanks for the quality review and podcasting insight as always, Pat! 👊 I'm just getting into the podcast game now, and have been running through as much of your content as possible. All the best from San Diego. 🌴
Thanks for the review Pat. I like the slightly deeper sound of the ATR-2100x. I didn't know it can plug straight into the iPad. The ATR-2100 here cost about $130!
Your videos helped me launch my podcast! I appreciate all the help, I’d like to see more tips on production of a podcast, more setups and the settings you use to record etc etc, basically more videos. Thank you for your help !
Great job again Pat! We are on ep7 of our podcast now and loving it. Would love a new mic to compare to the super cheap ones were using now. Keep up the great work and take care of yourself.
Thanks for the review! I couldn't get the ATR2100 in Madagascar, so we use the Q2U and a Zoom H6. Totally does the job. By the way: The Q2U stand is not really convincing either. If we can manage to grow we'd probably upgrade to the Shure SM7B one day. Take care people.
Thanks for your videos. Since I subscribed I'm contemplating starting a podcast. As soon as I save up enough $ I'll register for your course because I know 0% about podcasting and you know a 100%. Keep up the quality work.👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I was talking to the Buzzsprout guys two days ago and they told me they discontinued the ATR2100 and changed it to USB-C. Pat Flynn coming in clutch with the first video on it. Thanks for the info! I think it will be worth it to not buy an adapter plus black is way cooler! I’d love to win the new one 🤞🏻
A great review thanks. I found it hard to pick the difference between the new and old versions, but after seeing the quality of the included stand I would definately be looking for an alternative mounting option
Hey Pat! I loved the tips. It's a really helpful video. I was thinking of buying the Samson q2u as you recommended and hopefully I'll start to implement the guidance from the last webinar and your start-launch freebie! Thanks for providing such value with every piece of content you produce! I appreciate you!
I was so happy with the old microphone and actually managed to find it while traveling in South America for $80. Still holds up! Almost 1 million downloads thanks to that little mic. Sadly, the on/off switch got stuck and sank into the “on” position. Are they really not making it anymore?!
Thanks Pat for the opportunity to win this mic! Just watched a few of your RUclips videos to get started with a podcast. You have awesome info! My shopping list of materials is based on your recommendations. I will be using this mic whether I win or buy because of your recommendation--- Thanks for the opportunity to get one F R E E!
I have an ATR 2100, and a Samson Q2U - I really like both mics and I got both of them for about $100 total...I have them both on mic boom-arms instead of the stands they came with. I would recomend either of these mics to anyone looking for solid sound quality for less than $75. Good Video.
Thanks for the awesome review Pat. I like how you were able to demonstrate the sound differences between the two and the onboard mics. I would purchase this mic based on the demonstration as a mic to take on the road for sure. I don't think the added cost is a huge deal breaker as the mic is still under $100. Great Review!
Thank you so much for this review and all you share to educate people here. Thanks to you, now I'm convinced to start my own podcast 💃 I wish you endless success 🎉😊
Hey Pat! First time commenter here (but a long-time fan of 10 years 🎉) - first of all I have to tell you that your beard seriously looks great on you! I say keep the beard 😃. Anyway, I liked that the “new” version of the mic was quite a bit louder by default because that reduces the amount of work you gotta do in post (I’m all about reducing friction points in my workflow). I was also pleasantly surprised by the deep rich sound. Really needs a pop filter, like you said, but overall was a pretty good sound! And a bonus that it’s usbc on both ends 👍🏽. Thanks for the review!
Scott! Thank you so much for the comment, and taking the time! Appreciate your support, and the sound definitely is great when I heard this back again. And the beard - I'm keeping it for now! Thanks for the validation! 😀
Great video Pat!....I thought the new AT X sounded was richer than the older version... Just beginning my journey into Podcasting, and will have to seriously consider this new microphone. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Pat I'm one of your free course student from Sudan and huge fan of smart passive income , planing to lunch my podcast named fine focus podcast next month , thank you for everything , I hope my luck help me to get this MIC :D
Thank you for reviewing this mic. I just wished companies would leave stuff alone sometimes. The ATR 2100 (old) is a staple for many new podcaster's on a budget. The new ATR 2100x I don't think sounds as good as the podmic for the same price. ATR basically took themselves out of the running (so to speak) as being budget friendly. But I use a Golden Age Projects D2, and a Berhinger 1800s, so maybe if you looked at the Berhinger 1800 or 8500 (they are cheaper, but not USB) that might be an option.
I agree. It was so good and maybe they could have instead worked on a staple upgrade, versus messing with the thing that everyone loved. I do love the new one, and the look, but for $100 it's a hard ask.
I think the new version sounded a little bit better and clearer. Or at least louder. Thanks for the review. I hadn't even noticed that there was was a new version. 😎
Definitely a worthy review about the new one! I'm starting to write my content but haven't got my microphone yet precisely cause of the price increase.
I was looking to get ATX2100 now I might get the X. I liked the extra power it has. The stand is far not with the time it took to make it. Like you said, " we don't use the stand." Thanks for the great work you do even on little reviews like these.
I liked the sound of the 2100x better than the old one, but I agree, it's definitely not worth the extra $30. I currently use the old 2100, and it's been absolutely phenomenal thus far for me. I don't see a reason for me to switch at this point... Unless, of course, if I am going to get a whole new upgraded mic system.
The ATR 2100 is the gold standard in affordable, podcast ready equipment. This one is where the equipment might be heading, but not worth the price difference. Spend that extra money on investing in a Zoom. Thanks PAT.
I loved this video as always. I'm happy to see honest reviews of products. They both sounded good, but I don't know if I'd pay the extra $30 to stay with that brand for just about the same mic.
Just the video I needed to watch today! I want a relatively cheap USB and xlr microphone. But when I went to Amazon, the Audio Technica 2100 was sold out, the Samson q2u was expected to be delivered in one month or two and then there was the new Audio Technica 2100x... On which I didn't see the difference from its predecessor except a 130€ price tag... Now I know, it's usb C. And black. And a higher volume. Maybe I won't wait for the Samson for a month or two...
Thanks for the review! I bought the ATR2100 recently and had planned to get a second. Really looking forward to your Rode PodMic review! If I'm going to pay $100 for a microphone, it would be great to see your take on it vs this new Audio Technica. Appreciate all you do!
yay! I chose Samson Q2U over ATR 2100 because of how it sounds, also because of the stand that has extra leg for height, but this new thing seems to have the same sound quality.. also ideal for laptops that has usb-c ports like mine. Lols 😂 But this is good to know that ATR 2100x has the same audio quality. Looks like changing the recommended mic from my bucket list. 😅
This mic is beautiful! I was debating on whether to get the Blue Yeti Mic which is currently priced at CAD $99.99 (on sale and OG price is $119.98). HOWEVER, this mic, the ATR2100X is priced at CAD $79.00. The price dropped for some reason because the last time I checked it was around CAD $109~$120 I think? I’m not letting this opportunity pass so I will purchase it now right at this moment.
Hi Pat. Mine broke!!!! I have used ATR2100 since starting my podcast. I brought it on your original recommendation. Love it for all the reasons you mentioned. Then it broke. I think I broke it. Yes it was me that broke it. {insert sad face}
@@patflynn It's been awesome. I'm thinking it was a casualty of moving house, tested it after and the sound is v.poor. Have been using it as USB until now. Tried a different cable - no joy. Haven't tested on XLR though.
Great job at presenting us the new version! I've been using the old model for years now and love the sound of it! But could use that little extra power!!! And the black looks classier! Sometimes exes can still be good, come on! 😋
Thanks Pat for creating this unboxing and review. I've used the ATR2100 for years off and on, but I prefer another Audio-Technica USB / XLR mic named the AT2005. To my ears, the signal is a touch hotter and has what I believe to be slightly better audio quality. One big selling point for the ATR2100 was a lifetime fix or replace guarantee, something not offered on the AT2005. Not sure if the ATR2100X has the same lifetime guarantee. The Samson Q2U has a hotter output than either Audio-Technica USB / XLR mic. It is a touch more sibilant at least on my voice, but overall It's cheaper and in my view a slightly better microphone than the ATR2100.
Good honest review! Any comments on a way to attach the microphone to yourself to keep the distance from your mouth to the microphone similar from take to take?
I was JUST trying to find the 2100 on amazon but it isn’t available. I was looking at the 2100x but wanted to hear it first. Been wanting to start an engineering podcast with some friends and your channel has been very helpful!
I also thought the "new" had a slightly richer sound. I also like the fact that it doesn't pick up stray noise that's off-mike.
Yeah the old one did that too really well.
@@patflynn Was there a winner chosen already?
Thanks Pat! I thought the newer version had a slightly richer sound. Thanks for demonstrating how incredibly simple it is to use.
I like the idea of the new one being a bit 'hotter'. I would imagine they changed the circuitry with better components which would explain the price increase (or they just knew that most podcasters would go for it). Thanks for the video!

Appreciate this review. Pat is a huge reason why I started my podcast. I own 5 ATR 2100s which have served my podcast well. Thank you.
Great review Pat. I thought the old stand was dodgy, but this new one takes the cake. Good to see that the audio is a little stronger.
Based only on hearing the mic's output (through RUclips) on your video as my sole basis of comparison, I prefer the 2100X. Great video! The look on your face when the stand broke was PRICELESS!!! Hope to start my podcast this year, wish me luck! Thanks again for all your helpful advice, reviews, and crucial information.
Hey, let's see how the ATR 2100x performs here in Brazil!
Keep up the great work, Pat!
Thanks for the detailed review! Old and new comparison is much appreciated considering the popularity of the 2100. Audio-Technica makes great products at an affordable price.

Excellent review. Not too techie. Clear and concise.
LMBO!!! Pat's face each time he broke a part of the mic stand! Thanks for the video! Best laugh ever
Thanks for the great review Pat. Still learning about microphones so it is good to see how well they work.

In my opinion, this ATR-2100x sounds much better than the previous one. I'd love to have one for my podcast! Thanks for your amazing content. =)
I love 2100! I have two! I wanna try this new version. 😊
Just got that mic from Sweet Water for 70 bucks on sale , So watch for that very happy with it so far..😊
Thanks, Pat, for the review. Very helpful, and it looks like it would be a great addition to my field interview kit!
Seems like a great on the go mic. Good review, Pat.
Thanks for this review. Very helpful.
Great job again Pat!

Thanks Pat! I have two 2100s...which I love. I use the black Yeti Blue. I do like increased power of the 2100x. Have a great day!
Definitely worth the price. I wish I would have gotten the ATR2100 before getting my Blue Yeti. My second mic will be the ATR2100X.
Hey Pat, love this video. I have been watching your videos about microphones but haven't bought one yet. Keep up the good work.
Sounded amazing when used with the iPad Pro - I’d use it as a mobile podcast set up with my iPad - perfect! :) Keep up the good work, Pat!
A great review thanks. I found it hard to pick the difference between the new and old versions, but after seeing the quality of the included stand I would definately be looking for an alternative mounting option
Thanks for doing all you do Pat! I was going to order a mic today!!! Now I know what I want:)
Hey Pat! I loved the tips. It's a really helpful video. I was thinking of buying the Samson q2u as you recommended and hopefully I'll start to implement the guidance from the last webinar and your start-launch freebie! Thanks Pat! Ive been In the market to get two mics to start my podcast. This was helpful!
I have an ATR 2100, and a Samson Q2U - I really like both mics and I got both of them for about $100 total...I have them both on mic boom-arms instead of the stands they came with. I would recomend either of these mics to anyone looking for solid sound quality for less than $75. Good Video.
Thank you for this presentation. Helps us to really know what we're in for before buying. 💯
Just bought the Q2U and have the original ATR2100. Both are great options for podcasting!
Great video. Looking forward to more reviews, especially the reviews of websites like in the livestreams!
Love it!!! Giveaway time!!!! You're the first person I found on RUclips... when I start my podcast... love from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
Amazing review Pat. Loved it.
Thank you so much for this review and all you share to educate people here. Thanks to you, now I'm convinced to start my own podcast 💃
I wish you endless success 🎉😊
Bearded Flynn for the win! 👊🏽 😆
Great video Pat!....I thought the new AT X sounded was richer than the older version... Just beginning my journey into Podcasting, and will have to seriously consider this new microphone. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Pat
I'm one of your free course student from Sudan and huge fan of smart passive income , planing to lunch my podcast named fine focus podcast next month , thank you for everything , I hope my luck help me to get this MIC :D
This new upgrade definitely sounds better in my opinion
I will stick to my ATR2100 OLD, great vid
I think the new version sounded a little bit better and clearer. Or at least louder.
Thanks for the review.
I hadn't even noticed that there was was a new version.
😎
The x did sound better based on your recoding and yes the stand they designed looked terrible!
Thanks for the review and all you do Pat!
Definitely a worthy review about the new one!
I'm starting to write my content but haven't got my microphone yet precisely cause of the price increase.
I just bought a Yeti, I hope I don't regret it.
I was looking to get ATX2100 now I might get the X. I liked the extra power it has. The stand is far not with the time it took to make it. Like you said, " we don't use the stand." Thanks for the great work you do even on little reviews
like these.
'usually when there's an X on something that means it's good, unless it's your girlfriend!!!' 😂😂😂
Great show Pat, and thanks for your service.
Great tutorial. I use ATR 2100, it needs a software called Equalizer APO to increase its volume.
This might be, inadvertently, your funniest video ever.
This was very helpful, Thanks!
Great and honest review! Good to have new , but $30 more for basically different color probably not worth!
Thanks John! I always appreciate your comments 🙏🏼

Hi Pat. Mine broke!!!!
I have used ATR2100 since starting my podcast. I brought it on your original recommendation.
Love it for all the reasons you mentioned.
Then it broke. I think I broke it. Yes it was me that broke it. {insert sad face}
Aww man! How'd it brake? It's a very durable mic. So sorry it broke!
@@patflynn It's been awesome. I'm thinking it was a casualty of moving house, tested it after and the sound is v.poor. Have been using it as USB until now. Tried a different cable - no joy. Haven't tested on XLR though.
The ATR 2100X did seem to have a deeper sound quality to it. From the test it would seem to be worth the money. 👍
Great job at presenting us the new version! I've been using the old model for years now and love the sound of it! But could use that little extra power!!! And the black looks classier!
Sometimes exes can still be good, come on! 😋
Great video. Love the RNG!
Useful info thanks
Cool. I need to rush right out and buy one of those mic stands!
Thank you for the review. Looking to buy a set of those microphone.
I was JUST trying to find the 2100 on amazon but it isn’t available. I was looking at the 2100x but wanted to hear it first. Been wanting to start an engineering podcast with some friends and your channel has been very helpful!
