This was a really great show. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Would love to see some shows that focus more on selection and the little nuances that long time breeders have learned about chicks/grow outs that might not be obviously apparent. Are there things you can see in chicks down that indicate later color problems or leakage on certain breeds? Maybe a show on genetics and how those things work in practice? Like color genetics and crosses? Or selecting for egg color, creating hybrids, production and egg size, etc. I am currently starting some projects lines of purebreds but not currently accepted colors. Also would love to hear some shows on breeding for disease resistance naturally in a line of birds and methods of selection and breeding to achieve hardier birds.
I have purchased an exhibition bird before and he was beautiful. But died suddenly for no apparent reason and no symptoms (other then infested with mites) I felt like maybe too much selection and focus had been put on exhibition traits and no focus on breeding hardy and healthy birds with vigor and vitality. The poor bird was beautiful, unfortunately, it couldn't deal with the stress of a move and possibly just gave out due to that or had such a poor immune system it couldn't adapt to a new farm. Silver lining, is that experience has spurred me in to ensure that I am breeding lines of birds that are healthy, to use, disease resistant, adaptable to stressors, and so much more! Would love to hear your experience with this trait and inputs on the general subject. 😊
electrolytes are a great go to. when transporting parrots I stopped frequently to let the birds adjust to altitude changes.
so is the next LIVE going to be 16May EST? Can it be a BYOB (bring your own bird) I want to see ya'll show off your birds!

I love and appreciate your videos, they are packed full of useful information , but the cat in the background crying and whining really bugs me. I again really appreciate all the great information . GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU.
where can I email for advice?
Silkies are a TRUE bantam. The UK, I believe, has a line of Large Fowl silkies, that's been worked on and finalized as far, as I know. But the bantam size was first. Not all bantams are "True Bantams"- meaning that there is no large fowl counterpart. A lot of bantam breeds today were selectively bred down for size creating the bantam size originally from a large fowl. Karen- the reason silkies appear to you that they aren't true bantam size is because you are looking at hatchery stock bantams that are not being selected correctly. And I think a few hatchery's are actually working on large fowl silkies too. Properly bred silkies are actually quite small and are supposed to be. A lot of backyard silkies that I see though are not much smaller then small/med large fowl in their flocks. Anyways - interesting facts nonetheless 😊
