ok, i think when i finally clean my quail cages, it will be pressure washed and then mist everything down in ammonia.

I just give my chickens DE coated meal worms every two weeks. About a cup per ten birds. Never seen a worm.

I spoke to Mandelyn in detail about selecting breeder birds, I remember her saying your gonna cull your self out of birds! I think this point system is great. We all are to tough on our birds. If you stair at anything to long you will always find something wrong Good stuff guys. Thanks

I raised my Black Stars here in Texas on a 22% before I started learning from y’all. Then I listened and dropped it down to 18%. Their egg production slowed way down. I went back up to 20% and their egg production went back up. I did not even think about the heat causing them to eat less. Oh and I did get alfalfa, put it in a net and hung it. They love it.

I hang my heat lights on chain, for security because it is strong, and also I move my heat bulbs up a few links every few days as they mature. In Canada, we have such long nights in winter, so they need a bit of light to be able to eat enough to grow. Chicks don't eat in the dark. We have dark winters... depressing sometimes, the chicks keep me happy!

For pasty butt, here in Canada, we make sure, for the first week that the chicks water is room temperature (about 20C), our barn water is real cold, too cold for for chicks and it hits them too hard.

Sigrid Van Dort writes about long crowing birds, and it seems that long tailed males have longer crows. This is a big deal in Asia, they breed for long crows, and long tails.

yes karen!!! equator has different light that just occurred to me recently too and made me feel better and thank you for asking jeff why he's making you change your feed all the time for temp if scratch doesn't do anything. his answer was helpful but i was thinking the same thing. What's crazy is that raising calls, I've been told to sometimes omit faults in birds in front of me if their parents were of phenomenal type. That genotype has a lot of pull over phenotype as well and that's why there's breeder quality.

I would love to learn how to identify the eggs in the fecal float test! I know how to do the test but don't know how to count per gram? Or identify each parasite plus know what's acceptable count for each parasite (except cocci...40 to 60). It would be a fascinating show.
