You have to understand the difference between the audience too... Noone worship movies stars like indians.. we have a vast majority of immature audience who will try to mimic the actions in their real life. And we have the biggest pool of teen/young adult viewers in India.. the movie is like andrew tate packed in a single box... I loooooovvvvveeed the movie... I am going to watch it again on big screen.. reminds me of kill Bill ❤️... But i know the difference between real and reel.. which my people may or may not understand....

@shubhounofficial5125 I understand there are vast majority of immature audience, but don't you think they'll get influenced by anything, they can get influenced by news channels for crying out loud, its just because movies and actors are soft targets and are easy to pick on. It's based on a flawed toxic character, and people should accept that and see it as a medium of entertainment and move on as simple as that.

“Escapist entertainment” - You’ve coined it correctly. Unfortunately, our so called Indian critics don’t

I am glad Indian cenima is getting more international audiences. Our cinema has been very mellow compared to other Hollywood/European/Korean action films in terms of violence. We in India focused primarily on family dramas(Animal also has family drama), romcoms, thrillers but our movies are made for family audiences mostly, very rarely the producers or directors dare to make movies out of norm or with an adult theme. They are scared they won't find their audiences because our culture is very family oriented and usually people want to take their families out for the movies on the weekend and films with adult certification(A) usually gets ignored.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga has been breaking the norms and offending a lot of people in the process 😂 If I am not wrong this is his 3rd film. He definitely doesn't make cinema to please the critics. Some of the woke critics in India call his films the exhibition of toxic masculinity and misogyny. His films are extremely controversial.
His last film Kabir Singh had also generated a lot of hate from the woke critics and audiences. So, in one of the interviews with the woke critic who was subtly criticizing his film for promoting violence, he replied to her, " I'll show them what's a violent film". And he definitely delivered it with Animal 😂
People often say that he adds violence and misogyny in his films for shock value to create controversy and generate more public interest. Whatever he is doing seems to be working as all his 3 films including Animal is a huge box office success.
Also, to answer your question if the two Kapoors in this film are related, well no. Although both actors come from two different prestigious Kapoor film families who have been involved in film making and acting from past many decades. Ranbir Kapoor is a big name in Indian cinema because he always takes up challenging roles.
I am glad some directors from India don't care about wokism. It will ruin our cinema.I used to enjoy Hollywood films especially the action films from the 70's, 80's and 90's. But Hollywood has ruined itself with all the wokism and forced representation culture. The overuse of CGI also takes away all the fun. I hope Hollywood returns back to it's past glory.
I hope you will enjoy the sequel of Animal as much as you enjoyed this film!

@@geekinwithJamesHancock I'm so glad you felt the rawness and conviction of the movie. It is also so cinematic for a commercial Bollywood movie - The entry of the villian is so iconic- In 2 minutes we get to know how brutal he is and how he's like the protagonist . When ranvijay kills his sister's husband he pats him on the shoulder first and then chokes him ( The music gave me goosebumps )which is significant as the same tap happened to him when he was refused to meet his dad by the mole.
When the body double is killed & he finds out about the mole he goes and hugs his sister as the murder has already taken place in this head.

Unfortunately, this movie is the literal bleeding edge of violence and sex in Indian cinema, so you may have a hard time finding other Indian films that deliver a similar high. The whole nation is in shock right now over how many conventions and taboos this movie has pulverized. Still I see some recommendations in the comments that are worth watching even if they are nowhere as insane as Animal. My suggestions would be Raktha Charitra Part 1 and 2, and Vangaveeti, all 3 films by another pathbreaking director, Ram Gopal Varma. All of them are based on real-life political/criminal figures and events from the lawless interiors of the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the same region that Sandeep Reddy Vanga comes from.

1:53 that song is a real Punjabi folk song "Arjan Vailly" or "Arjan the Troublemaker/Brave (the word means brave but in a "troublemaker " sort of way. Ballsy probably is the best word). Its about Arjan Singh Nalwa, son of Hari Singh Nalwa. Hari Singh Nalwa was known for fighting the Mughals and expanding the Sanatani Empire via the Sikhi Panth (Path of the Student school of Hinduism; in layman terms) till Afghanistan (probably returning Sanatan Dharm to that region after a thousand years). His son Arjan mowed down a bunch of British officials for some taxation policies, as after Hari Singh Nalwa the Sikhi people came under the British. Henceforth the song became a clarinet call to cheer up soldiers in a war.
Even the axe fighting scene is from Gatak, a Punjabi martial art (modernized for the sequence, its a fusion of sorts).
The ending fight scene is also a form of music played at Punjabi funerals, including Muslims/Pakistani Punjabi funerals. "Saari Duniya Jala Denge" (we will burn the whole world for you) is about the fathers of both Abrar and Ranvijay, some lines say "Papa" (Ranvijay perspective) some say "Abbu" (Abrar perspective))
Even the introduction of Abrar's scene is to a Persian school song, and his suit and necklace have Turkish motifs (both cultures had a huge role in colonizing Hindus and converting our people by force to Islam - similar to what Killers of the Flower Moon depicted tbh).
It's a very culturally rooted movie and imo thats the best part about it.
I am really hyped for the second movie; and possibly Aziz/Abrar/etc will be the protagonists of that movie, it will show their life from abject poverty to rising up the ranks of the Ummah to reach a point of taking revenge from Balbir's family (probably add some religiously driven hatred for the "kafir" company too - the Swatik logo will play into it perfectly).
Oh yeah - "Swastikã" is a Sanskrit word, the word becomes "Swastik" in Hindi. It's a Sanskrit word that the Germans never uses. The Germans called their cross the "Hakkenkreuz" themselves - the Hooked Cross. It was the Anglosphere that slapped the Sanskrit word "Swastika", stolen from the land they had colonized for 200 years, to undermine and slander us for generations to come. If the Germans never called it "Swastika" why did the English have to? (Germans borrowed the design but not the name).
Hope this sheds even more light on the movie!

I knew that there was some cultural significance and connection between the music and the action scenes. In fact, for those who are subtitle-dependent and appreciate the art of good cinema, it seemed like a very interesting way to narrate the context of those scenes. particularly like the excerpts at
7:46 he is like an enforcer, Bulldog off the leash.
7:57 From his own point of view, it all comes from a place of overflowing love
11:24 Hero basically who cannot get killed, unless he decides this is his time to die. - Mahabharata's character Bhishma had this power. Did you quote this subconsciously having read the story of Mahabharata?

Haha..your comment in the last about over sensitive critiques is so spot on. 😂
Purpose of Cinema is to show you characters from society, whether u like them or not..such characters exists.
Critiques should go to temples & churches if they want sermons..why pollute cinema by imposing their beliefs on us free thinkers.

What a great review 😊 I loved the film and enjoyed your review even more - it has an arresting, throbbing tempo from scene 1 and never lets go. So glad to have a critic who's not virtue signalling. As expected, the unhinged left in India is already having its usual "liberal meltdown" and is busy bandying about a handful of terms (that they've learnt to help them ride out this lifetime) such as "toxic masquilinity."
As for me, I think it was a rip-roaring, swashbuckling joyride. Though I admit I did close my eyes in the ending sequence.
So glad you liked a movie from our little corner of the World. 😊

You, like many western audiences are understandebly frustrated with Hollywood's output nowadays. I understand original hollywood movies are struggling to make money nowadays. Infact, Animal was the highest grossing film worldwide since its release up until Godzilla hit the theatres. However, I can assure you the movie theatres are very much alive here in India and after a recent slump, movies this year are making more money than they have ever made.
If you want to get into Indian movies, I have a few recommendations. Of the recent releases which are also action based and larger than life, you may wanna checkout Jailer and Leo which were released earlier this year.
From past releases, here's a few recommendations which should cover a wide variety of genres:
    3 Idiots
    Padmaavat
    Super Deluxe
    Andhadhun
    Taare Zameen Par
    Tumbbad
    Zindagi na milegi dobara
    The Lunchbox
    Delhi Belly
    Baahubali
    Gangs of Wasseypur
    Black Friday
    Swades
    Kaithi
    Kantara

Even for Indian audiences it was a shocker. There’s nothing like this that has been made before. In US the runtime is 3 hr but in India it’s run time 3:25. When it come to streaming it will have another 20-30 mins of content extra. Everyone has pretty much the same response that 3hr flew by just like that.

In real life ranbeer Kapoor is very mild and shy type of person.. he doesn't even do interviews and PR shows.. he is not much active on social media, do not comment on controversial topics jsut to stay in trend.. he is that handsome introvert school kid.. but if you see his movies your jaw will drop... in every movie he is completely a different person... exactly opposite of rock Dwene johnson or Ryan Reynolds, thats why he is one of the top hero..
    B. The villain is acted by bobby deol.. he used to act in cheesy movies in 90s.. very bad in acting and choosing script.. and he just got his fame in his early 50s.. just fee years back.. thats a massive comeback... He is called "lord bobby" in fun way here..
    C. The movie is controversial here in India but the title is literally "animal".. it's story about humanity bent down to animal level for vengeance and thirst of blood.. there is this sequel coming "animal park" which i guess will be more bloody and will be related to more se#ual violence..
