  • Yes, build the Outlaw250 RC plane for FPV or LOS with me in real-time, starting with part 1 where you get all the dimensions and instructions to cut out the parts needed to make this wonderful little model which won't even need to be registered with your local aviation authority.
    Part 2 (the gluing) will be up in a day or two, once you've had a chance to recover from part 1.
    And yes, even though this video is some 47 minutes long, my Patreon supporters have made it possible to leave out those evil mid-roll ads so thumbs up to them!

    Escapement?! Sorry Bruce, but that means you have been flying models a looooonng time. I inherited a few escapements from my Dad when he passed. I have been trying to work out how to use them again just for a nostalgia-build with a solid hat-tip to my Dad's memory. I'm planning this Outlaw build with current equipment. Thanks for the video.

    I have watched many of your videos and have enjoyed all of them. This video inspired me to build your F250 Outlaw. I built it in stock configuration to see how everything fit. I prefer to have a plane that is configured as a tractor rather than a pusher. I built a version of your design with a few tweaks, but mostly stock except that it has a tractor setup. I haven't flown anything in a couple of years but I am a member of the local flying club here in California. I chickened out and asked a friend to do the maiden flight for me. We set up the radio for a conservative config and he threw the plane into the air, It was a handful! He brought it in, and we dialed down the throws and increased the expo. He put it into the air a second time and this time it flew like a small, beautiful bird that knew what it was doing. He flew it for a few minutes and brought it in without incident. All of the other pilots came over to look at it and ask questions about it. It was the hit of the day, thank you so much.

    Hey! This is my first scratch build who in fact flies! Thank you Bruce! I did longer 800mm wings, used coroflute for all but the wing (the wings steps are coreflute) & top & bottom of the pod, the wing and pod parts are foam board and then I use some popsicle sticks and heavy duty tape and I'm very pleased! tests indicatee it can tolerate a lot more weight, I'm seriously considering putting wheels on it! I can't wait to hook up my camera and use this fpv as intended!

    Hi Bruce. Your wing is a KFM airfoil. I also fly KFMs and have found that adding a second step to the underside of the wing, making a 'symetrical' airfoil, improves the flying characteristics of the model, compared to the single step. Cheers! Paul

    • @xjet
      @xjet  3 года назад +4

      Yep, I encourage folk to experiment. The only thing is that it gets close to 250g "as is" and the extra foam board could push things over the limit for some and we would not want to be in breach of the regulations now, would we? :-)

    The prop aperture should that have a greater clearance to reduce the buzzing noise generated by the air pressure generated between the two surfaces as the prop passes by.

    • @xjet
      @xjet  3 года назад +2

      I did bevel both sides of the ailerons and the leading edges don't need the corners chamfered because in the case of the wing it's double-thickness and in the case of the tailplane it can't hit the ground due to the angles involved. The prop hole could be bigger but that would start introducing weakness into the structure. Of course people can make whatever changes they want and I encourage folk to experiment with their own craft.

    Hi Bruce, hope you are well. I have all the pieces cut out and my motor etc ready to install.. I have really enjoyed your video of the initial stages and have spent literally months researching a project. I have no building or flying experience and so I am stalled at the moment having gathered the equipment and committed to your build. I can see that assembly should be quite straightforward with a glue gun but I need some help with the initial set up. (Centre over gravity, flight controller setup etc) I am sure your next video will cover these topics and await this with baited breath. Please keep publishing as you provide so much enjoyment and enthusiasm for all of us newcomers out here. Once again, thank you. David

Not overly concerned with 250# limit, I'm considering a build involving both coroflute-plast AND foam core, but for the life of me I can't figure any bit of this assembly coming even close to 250 pounds using either of the building materials! It was incredibly generous of the FAA to permit a UA weighing even more than I do!

    I've just got some A2 sheets of Westfoam foam board from HobbyCraft in the UK. These are only 595mm long, so 5mm short for the wing span which should be acceptable. Perhaps a bigger issue is that the A2 sheet weighs 122g which equates to 488 g/m2. In comparison the Flitetest foam is 297 g/m2 so the Westfoam is 60% overweight. It would be interesting to know Bruce's sheet weight for comparison. I'll probably make the nose a bit longer to stop it being tail heavy.

    Great one I will build one to learn LOS, I have a arwing 900 but I get disoriented quick and if I crashed will end in tears whit this one no problem as will have less momentum and it's way cheaper, you recomand to laminate this one to increase crash resistance? Thanks

    Have everything in my spares box except the paper-backed foam so adding a few CF spars to plain 5 mm foam. Ready for assembly. Do you have a recommendation for an initial CofG?
