Awesome video! I really like your honesty, getting stuff sent to test and then recommending that cheap solution as your favorite! I have a DT 880 and made the mistake of ordering cheap China replacement pads that looked just like the original ones. But they seem to use a denser foam which produces a horrible bass bloat around 200Hz. Now I was curious about good replacement pads. The Fenestrated Sheepskin look nice, but I guess I'll just get the original ones since I like how they look and feel, and they're a fraction of the price. And then I'll try the coffee filter mod!
yeah it’s effective
I've been using 1 sheet of 2 play against the paper driver (under the stock foam) of my DT 990 250 ohm premium. It's better than stock, but I might try the coffee filter to calm down the highs a bit more. Thanks for sharing.
Dude I cannot thank you enough, I tried many equalizer apo settings for mine Philips Fidelio X2HR which are fucking x3 more sibilant than beyer dt770 250 ohm. I just paper tower and it both fixed piercing like a needle frequencies and also improoved bass which is all I ever needed, maybe even reduced leakage. Just from toilet paper, I'm gonna search for coffee filters to see if those are even better. Cheapest and nicest solution of all. Thank you bro, let Apollo god bless your music journey.
haha nice the diy solutions are great
What is it like with stock foam and pads plus the filter paper? I imagine it being a slightly more tamed treble but with the same bass
Nice video! Which dekoni elite pad would you recommend for the DT 1770s ?
Got my Tyrg' 300r's for X-mas to use just for gaming with the Fox mic . I have found that I use them for everything. I just picked up the Dekoni Choice Suede pads I have to try the TP as a filter . How many layers should I start with ?
i would try 1 layer and add more if the treble is to high
Nice review, are you able to try some mods on the DT990 ? I found 3mm wool felt works the best on it, i would appreciate your opinion thanks.
i wish I could but the DT990 pro 600ohm is my brothers headphone and hes all the way on east coast now so I wouldn't be able to try it :[
The feIt tried seems to be like 2MM felt that I got from Daiso
Just the video I was looking for.. I tried the Dekoni Choice Suede on my TYGR300 Rs and made the bass super bloaty. Any idea how I could fix that? Maybe remove the stock filter?
yeah try a different material than stock filter or get dekoni fenestrated pads
Thanks for this. My second pair of tygrs are coming Thursday. I’ll try them stock first and if I can’t get used to the peak I’ll try the coffee filter. Is it hard to install or keep it in? You mentioned that you can get some rattle. Did you get that to stop? Thanks!
its pretty easy to swap them, i basically did it over 50 times lol. You just take off pads, use something flat and pop the plastic ring piece out, remove the foam, add the coffee filter, snap the plastic ring in, put pads back on.
If you get the coffee filter laying flat it shouldnt make noise, although if i ever find a less noisy coffee filter replacement material ill let you know. its the best material i found so far though
@@ryanhostudio i did the mod and im in awe my biggest problem was not the treble but more the muddy midrange voices were just not good and the mod fixed it there is still midbass wich makes the midrange warm but not muddy
@@ryanhostudio and i a and b tested it against the koss ksc75 wich has a nice tuning and i must the mod made the midrange similar to the ksc75 but way more detailed i hadnt touched my tygr in 4 month but now they are my go too
@@maxmuster4319 put something behind the driver... there is that hole .. if you put something in front of that it reduces warmthness
Does the Elite Fenestrated on the stock foam work well or would you say it's better to also replace the stock foam? And are they bigger and more comfortable than the stock pads? I can't find any measures for the OG pads for some reason, but I found they got a little uncomfortable every ~30 minutes.
yeah stock elite fenestrated works! Very comfortable set up. I found OG pads to be comfortable too though
Is the treble harsh or sibilant with the stock pads? Im very sensitive to that, tried the DT 770 32 ohms and I was impressed by the detail of the sound, but I just couldn’t handle the sibilant treble.
i did a full review on it but i find it slightly harsh and after a while it gets tiresome. It’s nowhere near as bad as dt 990 pro 600 ohm. senneheisers are more preferable if your looking for open back headphones that don’t have harsh treble
@@ryanhostudio Thank you man, what open back from senn would you recommend that has good detail and decent bass? I currently own the Momentum 3 and love them for the music I listen to, but I sometimes miss the detail the DT 770 had. Also that sub bass was pretty damn good on some songs.
@@A7xEslamamada well i dont really recommend any of the sennheiser open back for bass, since there bass is flat and subbass isnt very good. I would recommend the Shure 840a for good bass
I ordered the fenestrated pads for these because I've heard you and many others saying it is a good pad for kind of a stock sound for the Tygrs. But they mailed me that they are out of stock from where I ordered them. Is it worth the wait a couple of weeks to get them instead of switching out the order to velour or any other pad? Also is the original driver foam better than any other foam for stock sound with the fenestrated pads? If not which combo is the best for the widest sound with good detail and not bloating the bass?
i think the fenestrated are the best for not bloating and increasing the soundstage
@@ryanhostudio Thanks!
hi there! i found the tygr to be more closed than opened. they lacked air and sounded compressed. also the mid bass bloat was one of the issues that i didn’t really like. do you think removing that inside foam (behind the driver) make them feel more open? i think it will be more open than semi closed, can you try it out? will appreciate it if you responded. :)
i think removing the foam would make them sound more open, but i think it will also make the headphone treble even more emphasized and than cause reflections inside the earcup, which can cause even more problems.
i’ll let you know when i try it out
if it doesn’t affect the soundstage or imaging (to the bad - no foam could make soundstage better but i’m not sure about the preciseness of imaging as it already have the best imaging I’ve tried) then we can use the original tygr foam disc or the $2 original beyer foam disc under the sheepskin earpads. if it does affect soundstage and imaging, you can try a thinner breathable foam with a a hole in the middle just like the original. there’s also the ZMF new beyerdynamic pads line with perforated sheepskin that look really promising. looking forward to know what the sound will turn out like with your mods. :)
As an audiophile neophyte who is still learning, wouldn't an equalizer app have been a better choice to tame the 8k high treble issue the OP describes in his video?
you could EQ any headphone if you wished too
@@ryanhostudio That I understand. Why did you not choose to do that then with the Tygr 300r?
Is it just personal preference? The 'Maker' instinct to kitbash a hardware solution yourself? Prefer a physical solution of a software EQ based one?
I am not criticizing I am genuinely interested in learning why you chose what you chose as I am indeed a audiophile neophyte trying to learn more about this new rabbit hole of a hobby.
@@vladtheinhailer1428 for me i stopped EQ because one, the software you turn on is tied to dac that is connected, when i switch gear a lot to test, its annoying to change it a lot. Also EQ does not solve everything, just because a headphone is EQ to same FR doesn’t make it good in other aspects
changing ear pads can change soundstage, it can also change comfort and etc
my rabbit bit the wire above, do you know the name of the wire to repair it?
the only answer is.....revenge.
have rabbit stew for dinner!!
would removing the foam behind driver open up the soundstage and make it wider?
possibility but i think its there to absorb reflections so tuning will be adversely effected
Gotcha. Did you ever try with the silver beyerdynamics pads too?
@@ryanhostudio I must be toned deaf. I removed all inner padding behind driver and the padding between driver and ear pads and made no sound change to me whatsoever? Can that be explained?
Hey mate what’s biggest diff between 990 and tygr ?
depends on which version ohm, but generally it’s the treble, the tygr is much more manageable than dt 990 which is very harsh
@@ryanhostudio true. Also I heard the 80 ohm dt 990 (black edition) splits the middle between tygr 300r and dt 990 250 ohm. Is that correct ?
Also by the way your channel seems great !
How are the Elite Sheepsking pads with the TYGR for someone who likes more bass in his music? Do they increase the base so much that they ruin the rest of the sound? I have the Elite Fenestrated Sheepskin I'd love to get to just get more bass in my tracks so currently I'm considering them.
Thanks :)
yeah i think it becomes a lot prob wouldn’t recommend if your trying to get a clean sound
@@ryanhostudio I see, thanks again for taking the time answering 🙏
@@KaledTV no prob
Have you tried the zmf beyer sub earpads?
i have not
How do you think the mod would work with wicked cushions?
depends on pad type like leather perforated and etc probably similar effects assuming materials and thickness the same
