- Hi everyone I spent the day testing and modifying my Axial scx24 to get a little better performance out of it for you all!
So what are the I did mods and how did it perform???
Well watch the video lol!
The first part is comparing the stock chassis layout with my wheel weight mod vs the new modded chassis layout and man what a difference it made!
Enjoy the video everyone hope it helps people out with there builds!
Side note as proof the scx24 is not water proof here's a link to there sight look under specs: www.horizonhob...
1:10 - 1:30 I missed because I was dancing to the vibe I got from the music and lost focus on what this video was for. Thankful for this
Right on I mixed the music myself that means a ton thanks so much!
👊🙂
The way this thing crawls now is pretty insane, I will try this for sure, if I make a video of it I will make sure to give you all the credit.
Thanks man! 😊
Ingenious my friend. Thank you this is a great video!!!
Np happy you found the video helpful. 👊😃
Hey bud thanks for the Tip on the ESC I did mine but just used a dab of shoe goo to hold it in, Video tomorrow I will shout you out ...I think with these mods this is the lowest CG you can get with this thing and it should work awesome!! I did my plank and how it was before the esc mod it climbed just about as steep as my TRX4 sport!
Awesomeness heck yeah!
Np man I almost used shoe goo but I figured the screws where just more secure as a chassis brace. Mine is solid now! 😄
Oh can you metion in the video it's not waterproof bat a out of the box. To many people are seeing the manual and thinking it is! But on there owe website it says it's not waterproof at all! You can even link my video so people see the esc pic and mods. 😉
Check it out here under: specs:www.horizonhobby.com/scx24-deadbolt-1-24th-scale-elec-4wd---rtr-green-p-axi90081t2
@@TJthercGuy I already have the footage I guess I can type it in on my video letting people know..I will probably show a waterproof video showing how to do it with corrosionX one time.
I can't believe how much fun I'm having with this thing. It's my first crawler and I never thought crawling would be something I would be interested in, but I just spent 45 minutes in the backyard crawling over a rock lol. Hard to explain why it's enjoyable to those who aren't into it, that's for sure. Definitely looking for some small upgrades but really the weight is all that matters currently - it tends to very easily launch backwards while going up anything steep because put simply it weighs practically nothing.
Looking forward to doing some smaller less $$$$$$ mods to make it perform a bit better but this thing is already a blast fully stock! Very capable machine.
Awesome and a tip some metal wheels and d some good tires make a big performance improvement out of the box. 👊🙂
@@TJthercGuy Thanks dude!
Hey side note, do you have any details of how you flipped the battery and the ESC? Curious about how the weight shift canhelp performance. You also mentioned "raising" the shocks but I can't see anywhere to attach them to!
@@GeddyRC hard to explain in text but there’s a newer video where I showed the esc tray mod. Really this was a while ago so my thoughts on it have changed. What I found works better is flipping the transmission if your using a stock or 050 motor. Then trimming the battery tray legs off then trim the tray so it fits between the chassis rails and screw it in using the holes where the legs use to screw tot he chassis in the back of the tray. Then trim the front legs shorter tell they will fit under the front of the tray and glue them beck to the battery tray in the front of it. The battery isn’t much heavier then the esc so lowering it helps lower the cog and will still keep the rear down when descending while battery up front made it climb a little better but also made it roll easier on side hills and when descending big negative imo.
Put some quarters or fishing weights on the axles or frame rails. Give it a little weight
Nice mod info for this little rig man, good testing to
Thanks I try! 😄
Hey TJ, I've got a question.
Im dropping a 370 into a freakishly modded SCX24. Using a 3d printed mount.
I don't know which 370 to use. How many turns? And should I use a different pinion?
If so, how do you calculate pinion and spur size to get an idea of the vehicle speed you'll get?
With this one, I'm trying to stay with a similar speed of a stock scx24. Wish there was a small 2 speed, because I'd like to be able to trail AND crawl. Lol
Thank you for your videos, info, and great tutorials!
Mrs. Rabbit I’d say stock gen1 ecx barrage or Everest 16 motor they are pretty slow. You couldn’t use the stock pinion the motor shafts allot thicker.
But a 370 is way to big imo it makes it crazy top heavy, drain the battery way quicker and would break parts. 😅
Better opinion would be a micro ecx barrage micro motor. If you got the forward facing motor plate it will sit way far forward and make a huge difference it’s a bigger torque motor and you don’t loose much top end at all. Just my though on the 360-370 motor mod. 👍
I’m working on a new video not wait to decide tell you see the rock pile I take on in it. 😉
@@TJthercGuy TJ the rc Guy thanks for the reply, and good advice.
So the vehicle that this is powering, though originally a scx24, when complete (are they ever?), will be a few times heavier than stock. I'm going with somewhat a post apocalyptic tow truck. I love the deadbolt red!
It's a scx24 6x6 4WS with two stock motors. One motor powers the front and middle axel, one powers the rear axel.
It's totally badass, a beast. Trying to go for a good trail truck, with some crawling abilities too. But the more heavy duty it becomes, the less of a crawler it is. So..
Anyway, the idea is to have more power than I would ever need, and only use what it can handle.. probably gonna break some stuff.
Definitely gonna have to put it on youtube, but haven't ever posted a video.
Mrs. Rabbit Nice I gotta see that when your finished!
For sure with that much added weight and mods bigger motor wouldn’t hurt for sure if you put winders it will help offset the extra weight up high to. 😉🤘
Just got this rc the other day thanks for the advice subscribed 👍
Awesome welcome to the channel! 👊😃
Love it. Great job !!
I'm gonna get 1. I have a few crawlers. Love em all.
But... It's 14 degrees out this morning. I got Plans for crawling the bsmt, lol.
Subbed !! Not your 1st video i've watched.
Question ? What is the brown mushroom looking clay on your crawling course hill ?
Keith cerce awesome! Dang it’s been pretty cold here lately to. 😅
That on the course is spray foam. That part use to a old indoor micro course my buddy gave me. 😄
@@TJthercGuy interesting. Im glad i asked, I'm gonna guess it could be painted gray also. Thank you for the response.
Keith cerce np at all. yes it can be painted but you want to cover the wet paint with sand or use Rick textured paint. 👍
Nice! I would definitely try and lower the battery lower down for sure.
It's on the list but the battery not really any higher then stock lol up front 😄
Nice. Got my scx 24 two weeks ago. Mono shock on the rear and a new servo (traxxas 2060). Now it crawls circles around a stock scx 24. Thanks for to tips.
Np glad it helped you out! 👍😊
thanks for the tips. looking forward to see more. Subscribed
Np! 😄
Awesome welcome to the channel! I'll have some new videos of this little sucker up soon. 😊
When you relocated your shocks, did it lift the truck clearance at all? Thanks and great mods!!
It lowered and softened the rear a little. After this I ended up mounting my shocks higher up to lower the entire rig though. 👊🙂
@@TJthercGuy Thanks! I was watching other vids of people raising it but it seemed to make it more top heavy and roll easier. I'm definitely gonna try this, thanks!!
Holy hell that transmission flip looks like a headache and a half. Definitely gonna use all the other advice immediately though, climbs like a new machine! 😁 (even with the awful front bumper, wow)
it’s not that bad just flip the entire center skid and trim the rear drive shaft a bit. 👊🙂
You, Steve and one or two others have come a LONG WAY in a very short time!! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏
This baby is getting closer to behaving like its 1/10th Scale counterpart!! Good on you.
I want one of those SO BADLY.... Can't afford it. 😢
What I would DO, is try to fit a Dynamite 390 Motor from a Redcat Crawler. I love modding RCs, and I'm not opposed to drilling, hammering, Epoxying, adding parts from other Rigs...
Whatever it takes! 😳😉
I'd also get better quality Batteries, and mount TWO of them, one on each side, as low as possible. Mounting two of them in Parallel would nearly DOUBLE the Runtimes!!
These new Micros have so much potential...
Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Thanks no Rc I get stays stock long 😂!
You got some Good ideas to there!
Right now I'm building a 1/24th scale model kit to go on it! I think everyone is gonna love it!
I'll be one of them loving it!!!! 😎😊
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has figured out that this Scale allows for the CHEAPEST Hardbody options.
I also like putting Scale Engines in my Rigs... although I haven't been able to afford a single 1/10th Scale Engine yet.
But I CAN afford a bunch of them in 1/24th Scale!! 👍👍
@@CarminesRCTipsandTricksright on long as your having fun that's what rc'ing is all about!
I hear ya! I don't got much money myself most the time I'm flat broke lol.
@@CarminesRCTipsandTricks look way back in my channel and you will see I started my channel with the Walmart maisto crawler! 😅
@@TJthercGuy yeah, I don't got any money...
I do what I can.
Looks like it works great 👍
Are you using a larger tire than stock? it looks bigger than my deadbolt i bought used
No in this video it still had stock tires.
A barrage motor fits you have to re drill holes in the motor plate i have it in my deadbolt. You have to switch the wires on the motor or it will run backwards
Thanks I know this was over a yr ago now. I have put the barrage motor in a few scx24s and even have a 2pt video on a barrage motor install in here. ✌️😃
That cool i have an axial jeep and c ten and a deadbolt and have the motor in all of them
If you want to make a real difference get you some forty gram per wheel brass rims by hot racing. You have to glue your tires on but just the rims add 160 grams that is the only brass i have added
@@mikemangiameli561 nah I don’t like the look of them wheels my buddy has a set. I’ll stick with my treal wheels they are plenty heavy and look good. Really like my kinetic-kms wheels to. Check out some of my newer videos and you will see how the rigs are currently setup. I have the betty, c10, Jeep and deadbolt The c10 is now a gmc scale build and part scx24 part rgt v2/enduro24. The deadbolt has a mofo rc bouncer chassis on it with mudslingers right now to. 👊😃
@@TJthercGuy i didn't like look of them either but I scuffed them up and taped them up then cut the center out and painted just the center leaving the outer ring brass they look pretty sick
I'm late to the party, and total noob when it comes to crawling, what are the advantages of flipping the transmission??
It moves the motor weight farther forward and to the opposite side of the torque twist helping to fight it. 👊🙂
@@TJthercGuy Thanks for the quick reply!
Did you adjust the course on the first clip so that it would climb better? Sure looks like it.
Nope only reason there is transitions is because i only have 1 can’t and have to change angles to fallow along with the rig. 😂
Nice tips, thanks for sharing
Liked n subbed bro
@@STEVOD313 thnaks million man! 👍
Oh and you have to cut off one leg of the battery tray so the motor fits
Pretty cool lil rig
Thanks it's coming along! 😊
Very nice playground! I'm thinking of getting a 1/24... :D
Awesome pull the trigger for sure don't need much space for a good micro course ether. 😉
@@TJthercGuy Exactly, don't need to break the bank, and it's easy, don't need much to build a course, in the backyard or living room :D Your course is awesome! ;)
@@tmprod3925 thanks it's a working progress. I Change it around all the time. 😄
Hey TJ I mirrored the motor/ trans and added the shorter rear drive shaft. Now I have the double barrel shocks from kinetic for HR shocks. I just added the front shocks but my drive shafts are to short when close to fully articulated. And very sure the same will happen to the rear. How did u get away with ur double barrels? Did u flip the motor/trans back to stock and put back the longer rear drive shaft? Please help. I can send pics and vids of it on my Instagram as I follow u by the name emxt250
I used the longer included shaft down on the front to lengthen and 4 link my front end a while before I got the double barrow shocks. The rear is actually is still the the stock drive shaft only shortened a tiny bit from when I flipped the trans. ✌️🙂
@@TJthercGuy what is the benefit to a 4 link? Can you send me a vid you might have made about it. I might just get that longer drive shaft and trim it down. I also bought extra stock drive shaft to make more or mod it
@@evanm.2300 mainly did it to lengthen the front of mine a bit but it dos flex a bit more and move a little more freely. 👊🙂
Do u have a video on how to 4 link the front
hi dude you mentioned a vid on mirroring the tranny on an OG SCX10, had a quick scan through your scx10 playlist and cant see it? Got a link? thanks
I mentioned it a few times but don’t think if I ever made a how to video on it. I’ll did through my old videos and see if I can find it.
It’s pretty simple though. You will see a cover on the back of the trans where the shaft for the spur is that comes off. So remove the tranny and disassemble it take that cover off and put it on the side the spur use to go then put the spur shaft in the opposite side the cover was on and reassemble the trans, then flip the skid on the chassis and reinstall the tranny and motor. It will put the motor on the opposite side or the chassis and reverse the rotation. It helps with torque twist a little. Hope that helps. 😊✌️
They got rid of this feature in the newer scx10.2 though.
@@TJthercGuy Thanks for the reply dude, do you think its worth doing?
frankymal depends on the motor but while my friends swore by it I didn’t notice a huge difference. The motors already on the opposite side of the torque lean. 😄
Look's good!
What kind of grease is it, is it polylube?
For the shocks you use actual shock grease like green slime. Normally you put it in the seals of oil shocks to help stop them from leaking. It's pretty cheap at RC hobby shops like hobbytown.
You could use any plastic safe grease as long as it's not to think to I'm sure. 😊
Oh, ok, thank you for the info. Have a nice day/night.
@@Mitz500 np at all. 😊
Nice
Thanks man! 👍👌👍
Where u get them tires
These are stock tires in this video. ✌️🙂
Gotta drill
