    Those 3 points are true.
    1. Everybody has intrusive thoughts
    2. Thoughts are not reality - so don't ever feel guilty or ashamed
    3. Don't suppress it, just let it go

I don't fear most of my intrusive thoughts cause they revolve around murder...that makes me sound like a very horrible person probably. To be fair though I only want it to happen to a couple people who are absolutely toxic. I'd never want to harm someone that didn't do anything wrong, or something minor. Like I wouldn't want to kill a person that called me a bad name once, or someone that may have shoved me once back in 5th grade or something. But when it's someone who's been a complete bully for over 17 years then that makes me want to do bad things to them.

Like if I saw someone on a bike crossing the road instead of saying "it'd be terrible if he got ran over" which was HER example, my thought would be "it'd be funny if he got hit..." I DON'T MEANNN ITTT AHHH I THINK THERE'S SOMETHING REALLY WRONG WITH ME.

The more you surpress the thoughts the worse they become. I know it's scary and I know it makes you feel like a horrible or disgusting person but don't feel like that, I'm not lying when I say probably anybody you ask will say they get those thoughts. Don't fight the thoughts, don't give them a reaction, don't get upset about them that's what makes them stay.
You're okay, I promise you. The fact that you find the thoughts disgusting and disturbing prove that you're a good person and know they're wrong. I believe in all of you!!!

      @MaharlikaAWA 9 лет назад +13

So you thought you would actually do it? Were you afraid of it? Or did you want to do it?
Was it because you were seeing too many objects in your eyes and having to even it out a lot? Or just the thought of things somehow poking into your eyes?
I used to think about knives stabbing into my feet if I sat on my knees and the balls of my feet because the tendon is stretched it and it would hurt if it happened. I always thought about it as a kid and it was annoying.

It’s worth living because Jesus lives guys! I know it’s hard, I’ve been battling it for about 4 years. But I KNOW that life is worth living because Jesus lives, there is hope! I’m not perfect by ANY means.. I struggle with thoughts almost constantly it seems like but I just want to put you guys to Jesus because there I hope and eternal life and forgiveness of sin only found in Him!
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.”
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
      ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:6-8‬ ‭NASB‬‬
A couple of verses that I find comfort in even in my weakest moments. There is a greater reality. Gods peace that is only in Jesus. I leave you with this. Matthew 11:28-30 ““Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.””

I finally just decided that the thoughts weren't really something I wanted to think about and that they weren't my fault. I quit trying to fight the thoughts. I just let them come. Eventually they stopped being a problem. It took many years of struggling with it before I figured it out. Just because you have a terrible thought does not mean you are a terrible person. If you were a horrible person, you wouldn't be so upset by the intrusive thought.

@@islafox7672 it may be very hard but remember one temporal action will deprive you of human experience. For every seven bad memories or outcomes there is one good one. People leave this earth because of fear, fear that things won't get better. They lose hope. Don't lose hope, life isn't ruined. The average human life span says you have so many years ahead of you before the finish line. You've lived through 1/3rd of that already. Things do get better gradually overtime 🙏

MunchkinKitties2469 This is a very common OCD theme...if you can, do a little reading on a site like IOCDF to find out more. Your intense reaction of horror, guilt, shame, etc is actually what fuels the thoughts even more. Everyone had thoughts like these and most can shrug it off bc they mean nothing. You analyzing and reacting to them makes them more "important" in your brain, which then produces them more. The BEST way to get rid of the thoughts is to let them exist in your head! Allow them to be there but give them no attention or value. After a bit, your brain will realize there is nothing to be alarmed about and it will stop the anxiety reaction. It is so counterintuitive but IT WORKS!

Best advice I can give you if you have intrusive thoughts is meditating daily and constantly practice Awareness throughout the day. Practicing Awareness meand simply observing your sensory perceptions and your mind and feelings in a detached manner. Realize you are the observer and not the observed phenomena. You are completely free of all of your thoughts if you do not identify with them and simply observe them.
Wishing you all the best 😊❤

My personal way of coping with intrusive thoughts is to think of them like an annoying 13 year old kid who just keeps popping up and saying shitty things. Every time I have an intrusive thought I let them go by thinking something like, "shut the fuck up Timmy, go to bed!" and just kind of pretending it's a crappy shitty kid inside my head. Not sure if this is supposed to be something you do as I never got a diagnosis for it specifically along with my OCD because I didn't realise they were a thing other people had at the time, but it works for me.

    • @FDJustin
      @FDJustin 8 лет назад +8

I don't have OCD. I still get random intrusive thoughts... They aren't a problem because I can (usually) shake them off just by actively focusing on something else, and not mentally arguing with them.
The sorts of thoughts I have more trouble with are anxiety. A situation will generate anxiety which brings up thoughts and memories that perpetuate anxiety. It makes it hard to break the state, and so hard to break the thoughts.
On the other hand, if I have a quick compulsion to slap my hand down on a knife blade, I just go "Well that's a stupid idea." and move on. If it tries to stick around, I just find something else to focus on outside my head before it has a chance to steal energy and create loops.

Heres what I learned from intrusive thoughts and how i put an end to my fear in it. Ive decided to put my foot down and eradicate my fear for life. First off, everything Katy said in this video is simple and accurate. NOTHING is wrong with you, please stop punishing yourselves please. I know its annoying but at some point we must draw the line despite the fear. Here are a few things I learned from these thoughts and let me tell you, its been a journey.
    1. I still have intrusive thoughts but nothing is wrong with having those thoughts, the simplest answer is your reaction period.
    2. Stop looking at thoughts as pure or impure, the moment you do that, it'll freak your life out and anyone will go crazy because of that. Like i said, no thought is good or bad.
    3. Anybody, and i mean anyone who had a negative thought, the moment you identify with it, your mind will be clouded by it to the point where you can see nothing else beyond it. All you see are these thoughts and you ruminate constantly because of that.
    3. Overthinking is literal POISON please dont drink that poison.
    4. Think of those thoughts as if it is like a tennis match. You find it interesting or tiring at first for a bit but you eventually stop the game. Your worn out sweaty and tired etc. However in terms of this thought process this tennis match is not stopping. Its like Imagine playing tennis for 24 hours. Thats whats happening in the mind.
    5. u cannot stop what enters ur mind but the only way is to understand that youve mistaken yourself as the thought to be real about YOU which is not true. You have identified yourself with it. Stop that!
    6. Thoughts are like rain. You cant control when the rain comes but you control the reaction. When it rains, u get annoyed for a small amount of time but eventually u let it go right? Because u know u didnt control it, it cane by itself. Its like with the thoughts ur trying to control something completely natural like rain. But instead with these negative thoughts they have fooled you into thinking they serve some kind of purpose or say something about you deep down which is FALSE. What i have learned is all thoughts are pure JUNK! They are meaningless. Acceptance of these thoughts is key and then letting them go. No they mean NOTHING about you.
    7. Like Katy mentioned, EVERYONE yes EVERYONE has intrusive thoughts! Its natural and normal
    8. Dont question WHY a thought came. That is like asking why its raining. Its absolutely meaningless 100%. The why only comes when you falsely accuse yourself of a nonexisting thing that has a 100% chance of never even happening. The moment you ask why is when endless possibilities are created in your mind. The moment you ask the question why is just disastrous because youre going to speculate anc come up with false theories.
    9. Trust me, i have been there and its been a horrible shit show. I want you guys to live life again.
    10. Asking and ruminating on what ifs is a endless spiral. The question of what if this or that is a free problem creator in the mind. Eradicate what ifs from your life please 🙏🏻
I wish everyone peace and joy 🙏🏻 Remember, you are NORMAL this small, meaningless thought has only been magnified in your head into something huge. Its valueless and I hope everyone can feel like themselves again soon ❤️

I researched and found out that it was common which brought me joy but once I tried to calm myself by saying "it's not true" and I would have an intrusive thought and be battling with my own mind all day at work. It got so repetitive that is felt draining to argue with myself all day and have to work in a clothing store during the holidays while already being stressed from the thought. And then when you try to get disability no one understands but I can't even explain the situation without going over all of the details which is also frustrating because I'm sure everyone with intrusive thoughts could agree that you do not want to tell people what it is that keeps replaying in your head. smh It's like you either have to work through it or be unemployed and broke.

I’ve struggled with intrusive thoughts for as long as I remember. They hit their peak in the first few weeks after my son was born. It took me 23 years before I broke down and started researching it, and when I learned it’s a common thing my life shifted. I spent literal years questioning if I was a psychopath.

Jennifer Ayala I think understanding that your thoughts are just thoughts and understanding ‘why I am doing that’ is very helpful to me. I haven’t been diagnosed, but I think I have O focused OCD. By understanding that, I tried to not let my mind use itself to conjure fear. Also remember that if Christ is for us, who could stand against us? Also avoid physical triggers... caffeine, nicotine, ect. My anxiety about it got to the point that I started twitching my chest muscle and ear, and not feeding into the urge to twitch helps significantly. Self soothing helps too, outloud telling yourself to relax is helpful.

    Today's tip ♡
    Like this video.
When your struggling with intrusive thoughts, come watch this again.
It will ground you and remind you that you are normal , and that these thoughts arent reality.
Let them come.dont focus on them. Treat yourself even kinder when you have these thoughts.
So that way your brain knows when they come you will soak your feet , read a book , whatever it is for you that you do to treat yourself.
Then you will find they will happen less often , and thus find peace.
    God bless you all.

I'm a father that has intrusive thoughts.
My intrusive thoughts focus on a sexual nature and I'm so fed up of them I hate it.
Then I keep having doubts if I do hate them. It sucks.
I have ocd and my brain always targets the people I love. I know for a fact I dont enjoy these thoughts and would be a better person if I didn't have them.
Can anyone relate to what I'm going through? It would be nice to know im not alone.. :(

Horrible stuff that doesnt even deserve being mentioned. Needless to say im a pacifist, i hate violence. I know for sure i would never hurt anyone (specially the ones i care about) but like the girl said, dont try to fight them. Just dont pay any attention to them. But more important, dont think u are a bad person bc, tho i dont know u, i know u are not a bad person.

I sometimes get terrible disgusting intrusive thoughts about people I know and I used to suppress them by immediately thinking about my crush or something desirable to redirect the energy. What ended up happening is my brain associating my crush, or the good thing, with the intrusive thought, making them inescapable to the point of taking an emotional toll.

i have intrusive thoughts since a kid , it took my happiness ,i couldn't focus on anything , couldn't have a social life , i still have them but the thing is they dont have the same impact now , because i changed my reaction and perspective about them , i know , it's overwhelming , confusing , make you hate urself and say why me , it's hell . the main thought that helped me is to believe that i can change it , the belief , how could i make it happen , well my mind got used to negative thoughts ? im gonna make it get used to other things , i cant focus ? well ill find a way to do it , then i realised that it's heavily related to self esteem and self love , because if i have a bad thought that makes me feel bad bout myself , its because i dont estemate myself , im discusted while i see my face , but if we learn to love ourselves we would give to our selves breaks ,rethink , do what's best for us , and some thing else , the more u focus on IT , the bigger it will grow , so fill ur time , go outside , help others , make them smile , ull see theres always important , IT comes usualy to good people , cause they care alot , it reflects the oposite of what u want , so smile , ure doing fine........

Yes I can relate so much! I assume it started when I was like 10 years old but then it "stopped" happening to me ,during my adolescence I started to feel that I was a really anxious so that's how I realized that I have an anxiety disorder but more related with social situations ,what I didn't know at the time is that it was all related ,it was all part of my anxiety. In my last year of highschool a bunch of bad things happened to me ,so yeah I was really lonely with no friends and my grandma was dying of cancer ,all that really affected me so I started having intrusive thoughts again but soo strong and I also had a panic attack.I decided to start therapy ,back in 2015 ,to get well again what is funny is that it took time to realize that it was all the same ,I remembered that I had this thoughts when I was little but like then I grew up and forgot about it ,I thought it was nothing . Now I know that basically I suffered this my whole life,it's really confusing living like this I mean in the day I feel ok but when the night comes my anxiety comes as well and I start having these intrusive thoughts ,all I wish is to enjoy again my life and the things I used to do...

I used to struggle with these thoughts. I’d sometimes speak out loud, like ‘no eww!’ and my wife would wonder what I was on about.
Usually they are coming from a toxic feeling or when I’m feeling tense.
But you’re so right when you say just let them float on by.

I literally have been learning to laugh at these intrusive thoughts that I have been so scared of previously. and I never thought I could finally reach this point. It's irrational thoughts and fears that I would NEVER do which causes me and many others to psych ourselves out creating panic. Its really strange thinking that your mind has a section of its own makeup its just up to you to depict the true thoughts and feelings vs. the self torment in which your mind has learned to hold onto these thoughts, because being a human in society you want to justify everything. BUT! that's the thing you DO NOT!! have to justify a thought because (things that pop up into your head Do not cause a feared action which is the TRUE fear) The TRUE FEAR is that these thoughts will somehow trigger an action to make us something we are not which is why its like a scary movie you create in your mind and your the main character. I feel like many people have learned this anxiety and our minds have almost mimicked that release of the chemical (cortisol) which is the stress chemical that is released every-time these thoughts occur, it triggers that so your brain will replicate that same phenomenon because your trying to figure out why a thought created such an intense feeling, thoughts that release this cortisol will trick the brain and the brain will feel the need to conquer or figure out something. people who smoke cigarettes, marijuana, etc. drink alcohol regularly and or other substance regularly often get anxiety disorders it the name of the game. its like here's what you get for falling into temptation! I do not feel like medications truly fix the problem but only temporarily hide the problem. It is important to keep your mind clear by eating healthy exercising practice being MINDFUL not ( mind=full ) Also its important to realize that these thoughts wont ever truly go away until those thoughts truthfully don't effect you anymore. so instead of freaking out looking for re-assurance, breathe realize that this is a part of your OCD be happy you recognize it and pat yourself on the back because you didn't do the stupid crazy worst case scenario that you keep letting torcher your mind lol . prayer and meditation really helps also because it brings an acceptance and contentness,People with OCD and anxiety need to realize their brains are working on an over drive and it is not fair to your brain and body to work that hard over pointless exhausting thoughts. believe me I have been there and I just want to leave this comment showing that I also have and am continuing to let go of these irrational fears.Read more Show less

Tyler Cline wait so how does one tell the difference between an intrusive random thought from what they truly identify with? Have heard from places that apparently people ik really well who come from decent and caring environments tend to find themselves acquainted or aligned or feeling like their intrusive thoughts? Or happen to agree with some pure evil, weird, messed up, and random thoughts, emotions, and urges that have popped up over the years and they feel so much less psychologically mature and they don’t see everyone else around them and they are scared to watch revenge movies from then on bc they are scared that antagonist may not deserve it or are bothered by worse villains being out there who don’t deserve vengeance, I can’t understand their issue and trying to support them

I will not try to stop it I will simply ignore it. It does take practice but it really helped them. One day I will start a page to help others Conquer these thoughts! God bless!

Intrusive thoughts are just a reflection of that, for our mind and for it's nature, nothing is good or bad. It's we who tag something as good or bad based on social conventions, personal experiences, etc., and we do the same with our thoughts.
I personally don't think intrusive thoughts are useless, I find them useful to contrast my own beliefs.

Your videos have helped me realize how deep in my mental illnesses I actually am. It's nearly impossible to be in denial and ignore it when everything you're saying describes me so accurately. I love your manner of speaking, as it's very concise and casual and "non-clinician-y" in the best possible way. You're approachable, easy to connect with, positive in your delivery, and don't make me feel like us mentally ill are a bunch of destitute freaks. I think I've reached a breaking point where I need to get some kind of help. I can safely say at the age of thirty that looking for some kind of quick fix, waiting it out, or convincing myself that the good days mean I'm fine, have not worked for me.
Even the comments on your videos have been so helpful in articulating what it's like to live this way. Every story I read here slaps me in the face with its accuracy. I've been living like this my entire life, and it's good to finally know and finally BELIEVE that I'm not alone. Your videos, Kati, are finally helping me accept that the suffering I've experienced for most of my life is legitimate and that I shouldn't feel like such a failure and a terrible, shameful person for not having accomplished things in life. It makes sense and it's not my fault. I just need to use all the motivation I have within me to get help. Listening to you and reading the comments has given me some hope that I can learn to be kinder to myself and I don't have to suffer alone forever. Thank you. I mean, this is what I believe in this moment. Having lived with mental illnesses for so long and having them be an integral part of who I am, I've lost a great deal of trust in myself and my own judgments. Logic and reason have helped ground me somewhat, but I'm still never really sure if things I say or do are influenced by what I really, truly want and know is right, or by irrational mental illness. You often feel like an unreliable narrator in your own horrific novel, you know? There is also a classic fear of recovery for me, because illness is what I've known for so long and the uncertainty deters me. What will be left of me if my mental illnesses are being managed? Then that line of thinking can trigger an obsessive thought process, and you feel incredibly guilty in taking some kind of comfort in the familiar because of the nightmare that it's caused you and those around you (in this case, the familiar being mental illness, of course). I feel guilty for being ill AND guilty when I have good days, because I then start thinking, "Well, what if I'm not really that sick and I'm just doing this to myself for attention or some other reason?" But faking mental illness is probably also its own mental illness. The endless torment continues.
I'm extremely ill and have been for a long time. It's gotten to the point where it seems like my mental illnesses perfectly complement and enhance the others. They sure make a killer team. It's difficult to distinguish where my anxiety ends and my OCD, depression, borderline, body dysmorphic disorder, and/or complex PTSD begin. The most recent psychological torment I've been experiencing is anxiety with intrusive thoughts that seem to trigger my OCD. Then the intrusive thoughts incorporate themselves into the OCD so that my compulsion is to force myself to think and saturate my mind with the disturbing, intrusive thoughts. The end "goal" is to execute this mind exercise in a specific way. It varies, but for example, there's an intrinsic, nonsensical belief that if I just think this thought accompanied by this image, in the right location "perfectly" or the "right" way, that will somehow make the cycle stop. In actuality, as you would expect, this perpetuates and exacerbates the cycle, and then generates another cycle or branches off into sub cycles. Does this make sense or sound familiar to anyone?
Sorry this comment was so rambly. If someone can relate to anything I've said, please let me know. I wish everyone watching these videos well. NO ONE deserves to live with this persistent psychological torture.

I had intrusive thoughts, one way of differentiating between your thoughts and intrusive thoughts is that intrusive thoughts scare you. People who general WANT to do these thoughts are not afraid of them, in fact they take pleasure in them and cultivate them. Intrusive thoughts are a slap in face, causing fear and adrenaline rushes not something we cultivated or take pleasure in. I hope that helps someone. It isn't you, unfortunately our bodies response...fear makes it worse. Antidepressants help, it helps the relieve the adrenaline rushes from the fear, once the fear response diminishes the intrusive thoughts aren't as powerful.

I've been having these thoughts since January. They are so fucking annoying and terrifying. I've had panic attacks because of them and I'm not someone who usually has anxiety. I've had panic attacks at work, home, while driving, etc. I hate it. My girlfriend went to a farmhouse last month and that same weekend she was leaving (two days before), I was panicking over the thought of her leaving. I don't normally panic over small stuff like that. These thoughts are horrible. I hate having them. I spoke to a friend about it and I've considered talking to a therapist about it. These thoughts have kept me awake before. It's to the point I go to work and listen to music while working to avoid having panic attacks (thoughts happen a lot there). It's affecting my life. I found these videos a couple weeks ago and ever since then, I've been reading stuff on the thoughts and I feel a lot better but the thoughts are still there. No one I know in person other than my buddy knows I'm going through this. I'd love to be able to get rid of these thoughts and start living my life again like I used to. I've always been a happy and calm/relaxed person but these thoughts completely changed that. I'm trying to get rid of them completely but it is not working so far. It's terrible. Not a fun thing, that's for sure.

I swear, so much of my intrusive thoughts i'm too scared to share with anyone, even a therapist, it's really hard, cause my intrusive thoughts are really, REALLY fucked up, scrolling down a bit i've had quite a bit of the same thoughts others have mentioned, but also stuff far worse than what's in the comments, things that are so intense, and horrible, and it's scary, you know what makes it more scary? fun fact, intrusive thoughts can also cause 'fake emotions/urges' as i call them, where for a moment you think you have an urge to act on the thought, which fuels the anxiety, and disgust, and pit in your stomach, but only in calming down, and reanalyzing you'll realize you actually have no intention to act on those thoughts, but their more like "what if" fears your mind is having, or at least i find that's my case, especially given my greatest fear is becoming a monster, or the very things i hate and condemn, especially morally, it's like my mind torments me with hypothetical thoughts/imagined situations of if i became those things, as if my mind is being hyper vigilant against itself in fear of becoming those things when in reality knowing myself, i would never become the things my intrusive thoughts make me think, i'm a very moral person, so having these thoughts makes my mind overreact in anxiety and dwell on them more, then the fears come in worrying if i am those thoughts, and so on, it's. hell.

What scares me more right now is opening up to people about the contents of my intrusive thoughts and worrying they'll think it's a reflection of me, and not understand that it's the opposite, it's a reflection of what i never want to do or become.

I think my mom has these thoughts all the time. Every little thing that happens, to her or anyone else, she interprets as the end of the world. If she forgets an ingredient in a recipe, dishes are smashed and she calls herself a "piece of shit." Little mistakes equate to catastrophe in her mind. I don't always know what is bothering her, but I can tell she is constantly dwelling on something terrible, real or otherwise. It, honestly, is extremely painful to be around her. I love my mother. I just don't know how to help her.

@alaina im no expert but i would say its depression she has. when people are depressed they take things very hard on themself. when people get depressed or anxiety they can be impatient she should go to a doctor and i bet antidepressants would help her and maybe therapy. sometimes you have to try multiple antidepressants to find the one that works for you. my mom has been hard on herself and its depression for her. but once she takes her medication she is fine. so the brain can haunt you and act all weird on you when brain chemicals like seratonin are not balanced

Some of our best advice comes out of scripture, think on things that are good and also they say we have been made for fitting into a good life not so much just for ourselves but really for all those around us. This is what Katie is doing 24-7 with videos. Most people feel gratification when they think they have done something good and then feel good in their own Spirit. It only works for those who believe it just might work, which is faith in one's self. I didn't preach because this is a principal that's for all of life. Also, if you work on these things you are to busy to dwell on negative junk! One great truth is that you care enough to want to rid your self of these thoughts, so just say I refuse to take ownership of them!

I realized that it’s because we operate on anxiety, we expect things to go wrong and we fight it but it persists, instead of operating on appreciation, faith and hope, believing that good things will happen, that what you want will happen and seeing that in your mind, “focus on where you want to go, not on what you fear” - Tony Robbins, “stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being excited about what could go right” - Unknown

This video made me feel a lot better- I’ve been having intrusive thoughts since I was 13, and I’m nearly 17 now. When I was younger, they were really bad, but as I’ve gotten older, they’ve just came and gone in cycles (if that makes sense.) They’ve gotten better as I’ve gotten older, but probably once or twice a year I’ll have a really, really bad episode.
What I do when I get bad thoughts is say that “this is just a thought,” and that always seems to help. I’m a lot better now, but when I was younger I was convinced that I was a horrible person and that needed to go to prison before I lost control and hurt someone.
