  • Stop hitting behind the golf ball. Without doubt one of the most common faults I see (more particularly during winter is golfers hitting behind the ball at impact. In this video golf tip Brian Fitzgerald The Golf Doctor discusses why this is the case and shows a few different drills you can do to help rectifying this tendency.

    My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Morack Public GC in Vermont South and the Lang Lang GC in beautiful South Gippsland (An hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot's of Kangaroos.
    FAQ:
    How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
    Why do you make videos for RUclips? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
    Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
    So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
    What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
    What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
    Do you make money off RUclips? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
    I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - Here's my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : ko-fi.com/theg...
    Thanks for watching!

    Thank you Brian. Today I hit ball then turf 4 times in 18 holes. Never happened once before. Have been struggling to do it forever. I appreciate what you’re doing, I’m enjoying my golf so much more. 4 times doesn’t sound like much, but it’s the first 4 times for me. The penny might have dropped.

      That is fantastic news @scottsyack556 and thanks for letting me know.
      Its all about getting that feeling for the first time and then repeating it as many times as you can.
      I hope the penny has dropped for you as well.
      Thanks for your nice comments. You are exactly the type of golfer I make videos for.
      Keep me updated on your journey.
      Brian.

    Excellent job Brian on explaining how to avoid hitting "fat" shots with the irons. As a "despondent" golfer after yesterday's round, I'm glad I found this video. I think my major problem is a rotational one. I play the ball in the center or one ball forward with the irons, hybrid, and fairway woods. It's not a frequent situation, but it does occur. Great job Brian!

      The tee or coin in front of the ball will be a good one for you.
      Keep at it.

    Another very useful set of tip and asc you say that we are all probably guilty of. Will be working with this one before adding to the locker.
    Golf looking unlikely tomorrow as heavy rain forecast. Let's hope Thursday is OK as my birthday is on the 1st of July.
    Stay safe and well, thanks.

    Definitely been a problem of mine. The dreaded sway instead of turning my hips. Makes a huge difference when you start getting it right!
    You can also put a coin a couple of inches behind the ball and try to avoid hitting it.

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  3 года назад +1

      Hey Robert it is a very common one and a little beast to fix.
      You are right about the coin or a scorecard placed behind the ball.
      Thanks for watching.

    Brian great video, I find that this only works with my 6,7,8, and 9 irons, with my 4 and 5 I struggle to hit cleanly as the ball sits further forward in my stance. I think my hybrid I can hit more cleanly as I swing more around my body if that makes sense. Any advice for this?

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  Год назад

      If you re read your answer you have already hit upon the problem Peter.
      Ball position.
      The ball should be in the middle of your stance for all shots you play from the grass regardless of the club you are using..........
      Just keep the ball in the middle and I think you will see better results.
      Swinging around your body is not something I would ever recommend but of you find it works for you stick with it.

      @@fitzygolfpro Thanks Brian, it actually makes sense because out on the course you can't guarantee that longer iron ball position will be consistent (with the exception of what you have just shown in the video), I think this might relieve my poor long iron form! thank you again for taking the time to reply!

  • @nate_wil

    Always thought that the ball position changes the longer the club gets. It gets further forward in your stance for the longer clubs...

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  Год назад +1

      Unfortunately that isn’t right. The ball position only changes when you use a golf tee.
      The higher you tee it the further forward you play the ball.
