It's not really due to Vig. It was Andy Wallace and his SSL G series console that the raw tracks got mixed on. Compare his mix to Vig's early take in the Deluxe Edition and it's night and day. To Vig's credit, he tracked the band on a Neve which complimented Andy's punchy SSL. Andy is a master like no other. ✌

I don't often listen to Drain You. So it alway's hit's me how the guitar has that "narrative" feel to it. Sound's a bit like when you're a kid + the Barber(hopefully not Floyd?) tell's you to listen to the scissor's tell a tale. It complement's the lyrics perfectly, but tell's a story all on it's own!
I agree.... when it comes to Nevermind, most people bang on about Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Come as you are and Lithium. Great songs but also Drain You, Lounge Act and on a plain.
You can with a. But of sound mixing also get a DS-2 Boss pedal for your guitar get one with humbuckers to get as close to the tone! And a small clone for the bridge part. I don’t really know what amp he uses though. Hope this helped

He mainly used the Electro Harmonics Small Clone Chorus pedal and the Boss DS-1 or DS-2 Distortion pedal. Later for In Utero he used Sans Amp Distortion. He was also trying Electro Harmonics Big Muff Pi.
